Her other option to sell her goods was to hit up a different seller. She needed a bit of liquid courage before trying to deal with this stranger. I doubt he even has even good to buy half my skins. I'll have to spend a night here to wait, I just know it, she grumbled under her breath.
Looking up, she saw the barkeep staring at her. "You got a problem, pal? My silver's just as good here as anyone else's!". She patted her nearly empty coin purse. "I've got enough to cover it," she adds, taking a coin out with one of her overly long, green fingers. The nail was also really long with dirt under it. She was no stranger to toiling outside. She noticed him looking too long at the digit.
"Yeah, we orc bloods are bigger than you lot. It's no big deal. Same for the dirt on my hands...I've got callouses too, if that bugs you. I prefer the woods, take care of myself. Make the best leathers you can find. Take a look," she boasts, throwing him a well made tunic. "Don't suppose you are looking to buy anything or you? I already know you now, bub. It'd save me he trouble of getting all nice and friendly with anyone else around these parts. And I could be on my way...until next time."

I'm assuming that weapon finesse applies to natural weapons since it also applies to unarmed damage.
So now my crunch is done... Just waiting now.
Oh, I noticed that your requirements say chaotic neutral have to explain why we shouldn't be in a padded cell...
Okay, here is a very good example of CN, Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean. Is he crazy?(don't awnser that) CN isn't crazy (that's CE) it's unpredictable. CN values freedom and pleasure more than anything else. CN is the very foundation of what it means to be an American!
...well a Democrat at least.
I actually don't care about that much, but anyways!
CN is the picture of freedom, not anarchy.

Weapon Finesse (Combat)
You are trained in using your agility in melee combat, as opposed to brute strength.Benefit: With a light weapon, rapier, whip, or spiked chain made for a creature of your size category, you may use your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier on attack rolls. If you carry a shield, its armor check penalty applies to your attack rolls.
Special: Natural weapons are considered light weapons.
theres the relevant rules. You are correct that weapon finesse can be used with natural attacks

![]() |

I guess I should look more at what I ask... Thanks!
By the way, I'm wondering, there is an item in D&D called the amulet of natural weapons. It is from the Savage species for 3rd edition, it bestows enchantment on natural weapons. For example, a +1 flaming amulet of natural weapons gives a wolf +1 and flaming to its natural attacks(bite). I'm just letting you know this because I may want it for my bite, and I'm sure anyone with animals will want it higher lvls

But not Ghol-gan. The short lived utopia of cyclops unbound by linear perception. Such has been my ...some would say fascination but I say mission. We ignore one of our greatest Golarian civilizations, and though few would admit it, the state of giants in the current time influences this. The ...fall of giantkind we take as a fact of life but we do not examine it. A civilization whose citizens had the gift of prophecy on a one-to-one basis became sets of savages with little to no culture! This could happen to any of us and we resign it to more legend than objective knowledge.
And yet, with my unique set of ...skills and knowledge I'm sent NOT to the Shackles to explore actual Cyclops ruins. No, I am sent to bumf@!$ wasteland surrounded by capital O Orcs and humans as far from the Azlanti as hill giants are from the classic Cyclops.
Fine. So go the politics of academia, and, in the end, it's worth it. I'll supervise these hillbillies and find an artifact of two (probably useless) and make my bones and name my own assignment. Gods, I hope they at least have books.

Here is the beginning spell I am proposing. Let me know what you think!

** spoiler omitted **
Good spell, but I can justify it being a lvl 2 spell simply due to the area effect. The biggest area spell that lvl 1 has is burning hands. If the area centered on you, then sure lvl 1, but it's ranged
There is a very similar spell in d&d called snow flurry that does almost the same thing, only it's a lvl 2 spell and had a higher dmg cap.

Change that 50% stun to a 50% stun with a fort save and maybe it would be a little more balanced? Even with the class limitations, it's still pretty strong. Curious as to what lead you to pick that class selection. This seems very much like an arcane spell, so I don't think it should be on a cleric list either.

CampinCarl9127 |

I was unable to find the spell "snow flurry" you speak of.
As far as being ranged, I thought it would be fair that having a smaller AoE (5 foot burst vs 15 foot cone) would balance it out. More precise so you can place it more carefully, but it's also harder to hit larger numbers or enemies or enemies that are more spread out. IMHO I think that's fine, but that's up to the good GM ShadowLord to decide.
All potions in the range of the spell are rendered useless.
Ooh, I didn't even think about that, that's a very good point. Perhaps I should axe the freezing bit, or simply put in an extra line that says "Anything alchemical or magical in nature is immune to being frozen by this spell".
Edit: Or perhaps just not treat any sort of alchemical or magical gear as "easily freezable".

Carl, the only spell I can think of is Flurry of Snowballs although that is a cone and not a radius burst.

Oh, here is a spell that replaces crossbows
School: alteration: wiz/sorc 0, bard 0, witch 0, magus 0
CT: standard action
Comp: S,M(one crossbow bolt)
Effect
Range:50ft+10/lvl(max 120)
Effect:fires bolt as if from medium H. crossbow
Save:normal attack, SR:no
You launch a bolt as if from a H. crossbow
1d10
If the bolt is magical then apply the enchantment to the attack
although, this can be abused as well...
And I guess it would also apply for the occult classes

Thanks to the community for offering input on the spell creation. I'll be honest and state up front that this is not an area of expertise for me and so I appreciate all of the feedback everyone has contributed. I just finished running chapter one of Reign of winter and so I am familiar with Flurry of Snowballs spell and found it quite potent, but there is no freezing associated with that spell negatively - just some aoe damage as GM-JZ mentions. I think modifying the freezing to exclude magical/alchemical items would make it feasible. It than has a longer range than burning hands but covers a smaller area which seems comparable enough to me.
Welcome aboard Jaxxond, thanks for stopping in.
Varren - I skimmed your profile and it looks ok.

GM Redelia |

Blech, me neither. Least favorite part of starting a new campaign is having to turn hungry players away :(
Yeah, I know, that's why I closed recruitment early. I closed it as soon as I was sure of having enough to choose from to make a balanced party where I was excited about every character. It reduced the number I had to refuse.

Yaxxond |

Backstory 95% complete on my alias and here is my IC post.
Will have stats and numbers up as soon as I get home in about 2 hours, have students frantically trying to finish up projects before progress reports are due.
As Yaxxond enters the tavern, he tries his best to blend in. Pulling his cowl over his head as far as it can go, he scampers up to the barkeep. Seeing others put the necessary coinage on the counter, he figures it’s a custom he has to follow when entering. He furtively puts the coins down and speaks up in his best common, ”The biggest drink this will buy please.” Taking the drink, and avoiding the curious stare as he’s handed the larger than he expected mug, he finds a seat in the corner to listen to anyone he can in the hopes of finding individuals who could help his plight.
After a few minutes a few dwarves the table over start swapping stories of giants they have heard of, fought, or killed. Yaxxond immediately knew that most of them had no idea what they were talking about as their stories did not match the truths of his life. Figuring they at least carried their weapons well enough when they walked in, he decided to give conversation a shot as he didn’t see anyone else more likely to help him. Quietly pulling up a chair just as one dwarf was exaggerating a giant’s height to extreme proportions, he dropped his cowl and immediately took the break in the story as an opportunity to express his own story.
”That’s where you are wrong, good sir dwarf. Giants only be half that size. You see, I have lived my life among these monsters and could tell you how many nose hairs each had. Born free, captured into slavery, and forced to work for those creatures, I have knowledge of many of their camps.” As the befuddled dwarves ease their hands off their weapons, Yaxxond is emboldened to continue, ”Using trickery, stealth, and a lot of cunning I, Yaxxond, led a warband of my kin against these giants claiming no less than 5 kills and many more injured. I, Yaxxond, freed over 100 brave kobolds who took up the cause.”
Standing on his chair now puffing out his chest and letting his cowl fall down, Yaxxond continues in a fairly loud voice”I, YAXXOND, who doth swear vengeance on the one called Vunar, hereby look for others who would join me and ridding the area of this blight upon the land. Look not to my heritage, or my stature, but know this, it will be Yaxxond whose name is told across these lands in the generations to come. Will yours be spoken with mine? Or will you be another victim of Trunau, knowing you could have done more to defend this brave town?” Whether he is greeted by laughter, cheers, or silence, Yaxxond sits down and scoots his chair back a foot from the table. Crossing his arms he defiantly stares down any would-be objectors and waits for a response.

This would be an interesting friendship. Mechanically and, more importantly, story-wise. The stuffy academic and the kobold who at least has SOME sense ...

Yaxxond |

He might have a lot of "street smart" sense, but socially, hasn't had a whole lot of what most races deem as civilization. Someone who studied books all day would definitely be completely foreign to him.
Numbers and backstory all up I believe. Welcome any and all criticism from other prospective players, as well as the gm. Hopefully the kobolds of golarion book is allowed. If not I will remake.

Kreagor |

Looking at the variety of submissions its looking like it will be a good game no matter who gets in.
As such, I will put myself out there a bit more and ask if anyone has any suggestions about Kreagor or the Tavern RP I created on the last page. I have never actually played a PbP before and would like to improve.

CampinCarl9127 |

I have finished and am ready to submit my character! I have put my submission in a spoiler due to the length of it.
1) I want your character concept (class, focus, how you see your character progressing near term) and background, preferably in its own alias (though that’s just to help me keep track of everything). If you want to put together the crunch also, knock yourself out. It will be required, but not in your first post.
Everything is under the character alias: Renliat Auvreathem
2) A list of driving forces, aspirations, secret desires, etc - (Check out the the background information in the creation rules for more examples)
• If you're playing as a common race, how do you view other, rarer races? If you're playing as an uncommon race, how did you come to live among the common?
As an elf, Renliat is definitely one of the more common races. His view of rarer races depend on what race they are. In general, Renliat tries to make pragmatic assessments without prejudices, although that isn't always the case. More evil-inclined races he often treats with a sneering suspicion, while others he comes at with a curiosity to learn more about them.
• What will your character contribute to the party in and out of battle?
In combat: Renliat is a disciple of the gospel of boom. He will not be a battlefield control wizard. He will come at the enemy head-on, blasting them into submission. If the situation calls for it he will have some utility spells prepared as well.
Out of combat: Knowledge checks galore, a translator, and the ability to decipher magic and magical items as well as activate them. Between Eldritch Researcher and Artifact Hunter he will be getting into a lot of experimental magic.
• What goals/aspirations does your character have? These don't always need to be lofty or noble.
Right now Renliat is earning a new life in Trunau. He has had no life experience beyond his magical studies and is fascinated by this much more active lifestyle, and wants to pursue it further. Part of that is due to his curiosity, but part of it is also not wanting to face his past and where he came from. He also has a faint resentment for giant-kind due to their hand in his magical accident that left him scarred so badly.
• What is my role in town? Am I settled there, or just passing through? How do I make a living? (Good examples include Craft skills, occupations listed under Profession, or as an unskilled laborer.) Is this a family business or trade, or am I doing something new? How long have I been doing this in Trunau?
This is covered in the backstory.
• Did I inherit my equipment / receive it as a gift? Did I save up to purchase it? Did I steal it / steal to get it? Did I kill for it?
Renliat stole it from his father when he left home, and it still shames him. However his spellbook is his own and his quarterstaff was a gift from Tyari.
• How are the Traits that I have a part of my story? What training or experiences have I undergone to get the Skills, Feats and Class Features that make me good at what I do?
Pretty well covered in background. If you have any specific questions let me know and I'll add some detail.
• How strongly do I live out my alignment? Am I a constant beacon of good/evil/law/chaos? Or am I more surreptitious about my moral choices? What are my religious commitments, and how do these shape me?
Renliat is CG, and strongly devoted to being good and helping people, but his chaotic nature is more due to him just not caring for rigid restrictions. He does not resent law or structure or people who rigidly define themselves (such as monks or paladins), accepting that they have a different way of living life than he does.
3) An IC post describing your recent history, and how you ended up in Trunau. Write it as if you are telling your story to a stranger at the pub who just bought you an ale. If you are a long-time resident, or someone just passing through, your story is interesting to him. Maybe interesting enough to buy you another ale?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The lanky elf was sitting at a corner table, full plate of food steaming next to him as he flipped through a thick book. It was a wonder there was any room left for a plate at all with all of the scribbled notes and drawings on sheets of paper skewed across the table. Not that the food seemed to be serving a purpose; it was entirely untouched. The elf switched from reading parts of the book to looking at the notes, rearranging them and writing down more scribbles both on the papers and in the book.
When the waitress came by he didn't even notice her until she nimbly pushed aside one of his papers to set down a glass of red wine. He looked up suddenly and his brows furrowed in confusion. "I did not order this. And be careful with those notes, you have no idea how valuable they are." The waitress pursed her lips at the elf's rudeness but quickly composed herself. "Courtesy of the gentleman at the bar with the beard." She walked off, muttering something under her breath that Renliat failed to pick up as he saw the bearded man give him a smile and a wave. His curiosity peaked, the elf pushed some of his notes together and walked over, free drink in hand to learn of his benefactor's interest in him.
It turned out that the man shared something in common with Renliat: a sense of curiosity. The man was a trapper who passed through from time to time and wanted to know who the new face in town was. Renliat was put at ease from the man's friendly personality (the full-bodied wine certainly helped) and he began to recount how he came to be in Trunau. "I was born and raised in an elven city; I'm sorry but the details of it are secrets that are not mine to tell. Suffice it to say that I had some family issues that ended with me seeking out something that was far more dangerous than my research had lead me to believe. I was trying to perform a ritual when I was attacked by a hill giant." A sneer creeps into Renliat's lips. "The imbecile got himself killed and ruined years of work. I was nearly killed as well. Luckily the people of Trunau took me in and saved me, and I have come to enjoy the life here. I have never been so immersed in a community like this, and I think my skills are something that can help them flourish." He smiles and takes another sip of the wine. "I'm a translator and adviser when the situation calls for it, but my main goal is researching the siegestone. It's a brilliant work of conjuration magic, but much of its properties are unknown. I believe there is also room for greater potential, mostly due to overall simplistic nature of the creation incantation woven into the cauldron..."
Post as often as is necessary, but keep it regular. I tend to check the boards several times a day but less often on the weekends. Ideally, we’d have at least 1 post per day from everyone, as needed, but I understand that’s not always possible. I am going to do my best to keep this game moving. If you only check the boards on the weekends, this is not the PbP for you.
I check the boards several times a day. There are few posters who have more availability to post than I do. I will move as fast as the game is, without question.
Perseverance is preferred. This is a long lasting story arc split into multiple modules with multiple parts each. If you don't think you can devote the time to hang around for at least a module at a time, this is not the PbP for you.
I have been in and am currently involved in several PbP games that have spanned years. I am actually running one that has started in October of 2013 and is still going strong with over 10000 posts.
Communication is key. Whether it is letting me know of a vacation where you might not have internet access, questions about some minutiae of game play, or simple clarifications; communication is how I gauge how engaged my players are, and how I can tune the adventure so that everyone is enjoying themselves. If you don’t think it’s important to let the other players and GM know when you aren’t going to be able to post for a few days, this is not the PbP for you.
Absolutely. If I am unable to post for a long period of time (such as an entire evening or longer), I will always try to get in a quick post notifying the people I play with.
Roleplaying. As mentioned above, I like for my players to take the lead in a goodly portion of the adventure. Cues and clues will be given to prod, but I'd rather you go off on a wild hare chase rather than be spoonfed copied portions of the AP over and over. If rolling dice is your thing, and your character is the strong silent type, this is not the PbP for you.
I have always favored roleplay>rollplay. I do enjoy the mechanics of the game and I know how to make a well-built character, but that comes secondary to making an interesting character who I know I will enjoy playing and that others will enjoy playing with.
Quality posting. Know how you get when that hamburger you ordered doesn't look anything like the picture on the poster? That's how I feel about craptastic posts. No one (but you) is forcing you to rush a post out the door, so take your time with it. If you prefer to let the others do the talking, while you toss in one word responses, and like to roll for social skills with no explanations, this is not the PbP for you.
Ooh, that is some rarely-known wisdom for PbP games. Advancing posts that push the game forward is key to a long-term and immersive game.
Have fun! This is one of the most important, because if you aren't having fun, why are you playing? Of course, this applies to everyone else too. So, don't be a jerk. If you want to have fun, then this is the PbP for you!
Just try to stop me!
so many good submissions!
Indeed, but I see that as a good sign. I'm constantly lurking through the recruitment forums, but I only come out of my cave when I see a really good-looking campaign starting up. The long-term paizo members can smell a good recruitment and they come out in force when one shows up.
To be honest, one can get a spot if he has the best of one of the three character niches,(combat, skill, and magic). Although, every good party has at least one healer and one trapfinder (one can possibility make a two player champain with just those two).
Then all one has to worry about is how much competition he/she has. I, currently, only have one other person to worry about in the skill department. So my chances for being chosen are high.
Looks like to me we have quite a few rangers... Lots of competition there. If you have a splendid concept in an area that a recruitment is lacking, go for it :)
To be fair to everyone up front, Sitko has the gist of it. While I think it could be hilariously fun to throw six melee barbarians of mass destruction into the fray, I don't want you guys to die. I'll try to pick a somewhat balanced party, though it may be far from optimal. I'd prefer to not set you up for failure before we even begin!
That said, it's not easy. I've tossed around several combinations already of people who've applied and I'm having a hard time. As the others flush out I suppose it gets even harder.
Quick question, How do you feel about word casting? I would like to submit a character today and thus far I have landed on Ifrit Sorcerer. The reason I ask about word casting is I would like to submit a blaster character. I don't think that niche has been filled and while blasting normally isn't optimal it is pretty decent with wordcasting.
Ferus Swiftpaw |
Besides prepping for my daughter's birthday party, the competition in the combat support group has kept me from doing the crunch, as I know that the numbers are easy to plug in, but the group dynamic is what the DM has to determine.
I will do it tonight, as I know you have to review both to see the finished product, but I will be lurking if I don't make it in case you need an alternate to be on stand-by should RL rear its ugly head.
Not to step on toes or try to tell you what kind of character to build, but I did submit a blasting-focused wizard. Just letting you know, feel free to build what your heart desires!
Self buffing melee control. If you're familiar with the Forge of Combat, she is an anvil who will operate as a hammer occasionally.
She uses uses reach, attacks of opportunity, and eventually combat maneuvers to control the opposition's movements and limit their options.
Being a warpriest she is able to buff herself and act as a secondary healer.
In her recent past she suffered at the hands of giants. The group she was guiding to Trunau was attacked, and as far as she knows she was the only survivor. While normally free spirited, she takes her responsibilities to those who hire her very seriously, and there is an ember of true hate burning in her heart now. She doesn't let it show, as she knows you shouldn't condemn a whole group for the actions of only some...but it's there and growing. Will finding the group of raiders and bringing them to justice be enouh to quench it?
"My story? I'm just a traveler friend, helping folk wander from one spot to another safely." The woman at the bar says, taking a pull from her mug. "These?" she gestures at her fresh batch of scars. "Some journies are a little more eventful than others. Got these on the journey here as a matter of fact. Been healing up since then though, and I'm ready to get back out there." She takes another drink, ponder your request. [B]"Details huh? Yeah, somefolks can't help but want to hear all the gorey bits. Tell you what friend, you buy another round. Something with a little heart to it, and I'll share a little more.
Mefika |
Adira, Warpriest of Sarenrae
Still not entirely recovered from her early childhood years being raised (read; abused) in an orc tribe, Adira is generally a rather nervous person, and currently unless it can relate to her skills in healing, is not entirely confident in herself or her abilities. Somewhere down inside however, is the tough core that allowed her to survive as a protege of an orcish shaman and being on the run in the wilds of Belkzen for months.
After years of surviving the shamans capricious 'teachings' an opportunity from on high finally came for her. As the Skullcrusher tribe was attacked in the night by band of hill giants, Adira gathered what little she could and quickly fled up into the hills. Watching the shadowy shape of giants retreating in the flickering light of what must have been massive fires in several parts of the camp, she moved off into the night hoping she would be missed in the confusion. After months of keeping on the move, always looking ever behind in dread that pursuit would somehow find her, she finally managed to leave the dusty plains of Belkzen behind her and passed over into a new green land.
Not knowing that the border to this new land was heavily patrolled, Adira finally found herself caught, however in another turn of her increasing good fortune she was not found by orcs on the hunt, but men and women of Lastwall. One of the patrols members, a jovially faced cleric of Sarenrae could see that the young girl was near half-starved and in dire need of help, and so took her back with them and brought her to the temple for healing and to give the young girl direction and hope in moving forward with her life. Adira's time in the temple was a balm for her wounds, physical, mental and spiritual, and her growing faith in the kindness and mercy of the Dawnflower has been her guiding light ever since.
Reaching out to take the offered drink, Adira nods to the gentleman in thanks before as she brings the fresh mug up to her mouth and takes a short pull. Bringing the mug back down to the bar, she wraps both hands around it and looks around the bar while considering how to answer his question. "Ummm, well. Hmm. I-I'm a cleric of the Dawnflower sir, I'm mostly a healer although I also know how to fight with a bow. Oh and a sword I suppose! That is, umm, if I need to that is." Flushing in embarrassment at her rather poor answer, she looks back down into her ale as she continues "Trunau is well known in Lastwall, o-of course n-not that you wouldn't know that already. So umm, I've come to Trunau to offer what assistance I can and that of the Church to the town for some time. I've also been trying to confirm some rumours, any sort of corroborating information really, of several relics connected to Sarenrae that are said to be lost in the Mindspin Mountains."
Zomblisham - Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, busy day yesterday afternoon. Are you referring to Experimental Wordcaster, Words of Power or something else?
Ferus - I eluded to it in the beginning, but I don't select party members based on their crunch. I'm not a GM who is going to scrutinize every stat on your sheet to make sure it legal, I'm taking your word for it that you've done that already. I'll skim it and make sure it looks good but I'm looking at other information as more important.
At this time submissions are CLOSED if you have not dotted! You still have a few more days to flush out the concepts if you aren't ready but have dotted. If you are making changes to your submission after this point, please note it in the thread here so I'm aware.
Thank you all for your submissions to this game, I am start to perform my preliminary reviews.
Best of luck to you all!
