Background
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Yaxxond was born to a kobold snarl that lived in the mountains north of Trunau. Yaxxond can’t remember what his clan name was. As just a youngling, giants enslaved his clan and spread them out amongst their towns as indentured miners.

As he grew older, Yaxxond became more and more bitter. While he enjoyed the process of mining, he took every opportunity he could to spoil the best cuts of gems and ores he found while working. He resolved himself to become more than just a slave for his giant overlords. It was during a raid on a small town in which kobolds were sent in first with the promise of plunder, Yaxxond realized his true fate as a slave. Trap after trap was set off as his kinfolk were used to discover and clear the way of the towns defenses. Feigning death after falling into a spiked pit, he held as still as he could when a giant came to the hole he had fallen into. The giant laughed and Yaxxond never forgot what he heard come from the giant’s mouth ”You know this pit wasn’t even big enough to affect us. Vunar must’ve just wanted a good laugh sending this batch in.”

Vunar became a name etched into Yaxxond’s mind.

After night fell, Yaxxond was able to climb out of the pit after several failed attempts and he realized the importance of his next decisions. Not knowing where to find friends he began by searching the nearby town. Inside he found a goblin crushed against a wall holding a flail in both hands. Yaxxond picked it up and swung it around a few times, and finding it wasn’t terribly more difficult then swinging his miner’s pick, kept it. He also took the dented armor the goblin was wearing, while not the best fit, was better than nothing. Before leaving the town, he also collected as many daggers, swords and spear heads he could bundle together with the rope he found and began hiking off towards the nearest river. While the load slowed him down tremendously he started upriver towards where his home, until very recently, had been. Sneaking into the slave quarters, he woke up as many of his kin as he could. Arming them and convincing them of the escape plan, they attempted to sneak off. They were 100 yards out of camp when the alarm was sounded. They began to flee, the giants quickly outpaced them and began to pick up and fling the unfortunate souls high into the air to land anywhere they may, dead or dazed the giants didn’t care.

After 3 hours of constant pursuit, less than 30 kobolds remained from the 100 he had originally convinced to leave. Yaxxond rallied the survivors and they began their lives as refugees in the mountains. Never staying in one place long they began to use the tunnels under the mountains as safe places for them to stage raids on the giantfolk, attempting to rescue and free their family, clan mates, and friends. While not overly successful, they did start to raise hope for the beleaguered kobolds. It was during this time that Yaxxond learned tactics and strategies from his friend Koba. Learning that individually, he was rarely an equal in combat, with others and while the enemy was prone on the ground, situations quickly reversed in his favor. The loosely called tribe perfected their tactics often floating downriver under the water line to spring forth at night into the giant camps without being noticed. They trained at being able to withstand the bitter cold of the rivers at night and with each other at arms.

All seemed to be going well enough for Yaxxond but disaster struck again. The giants somehow found their camp unbeknownst to the kobolds, and a slaughter ensued. During the panicked scattering, Yaxxond found himself in yet another hole wondering if life was doomed to repeat itself. As the giants rounded up any creature that surrendered, a voice boomed out to any who would listen ”Know that your pathetic race will always serve those better than you. I, Vunar, decree that all kobolds not found in specified quarters from this day forward shall be shown no mercy. They shall be used for sport, for entertainment, and for our young ones training. Surrender now or fall to these terms.” Yaxxond trembled with fear, but would not let himself surrender to that name he had waited so long to hear. Once again, he waited until the giants left. Without many more options he headed for the one place he had found that resisted the giants effectively, Trunau.
