Idea was intriguing, so just had to come up with something to stretch creative juices
A year later the young panda (need to think of a name) had gained a great deal of understanding of this newfound world. One day, while selling some of his toys in a city, Chao Petto awoke the panda from it's mystic slumber, and told him a story, that they had attracted attention from a group most foul, and that he must run. The panda, having no where else to go, ran off into the night. The panda had learned to control a portion of the jewel's power, and with it's strength, managed to escape. Now the panda is on the run, with few places open to it, it's pursurer's after the jewel within.
Not my best work but came up with fast just to try out an idea. Stat-wise would probably base it with the race creation rules from the Advanced Races Guide using construct as a base and going from there. Probably stat it as a Sorcerer, representing gaining control over the mystic jewel as it's power source. Could also try cleric, as it could be a divine jewel as well. The spells from either class would be a manifestation of the jewel's power, though in the case of some spells I could see clockwork gears whirring for it. Would probably take abit of work to make, but not even sure this would be a submission.

The Maven |
I'm interested for sure, not sure what I'd play bt i'll look through OA and the pathfinder stuff to see what i can conjure up
I know the wizard is replaced by the wu jen in OA, but i would love to play a spellslinger elementalist. I think it would fit in well with the theme and would be pretty cool.

Baoyu Fen |

What level, classes, and races? How many points? If tengu are allowed:
I'd like to submit Baoyu Fen, mercenary tengu and weapon-lover. (Gunslinger, possible multiclass into Monk or Fighter.)
Eventually he picked up the way of firearms, and became enthralled by the weapons, eventually becoming a marked duelist and scout.

The Maven |
I submit
Renzo was a Phoenix clan prodigy. He excelled in all things his family was known for, and was a skilled elementalist and weapon maker by his 12th birthday. He was afforded many opportunities in the schools of the Phoenix clan, but as he grew through his teens he grew arrogant. He asked his wu jen master if he could travel outside the lands of Rokugen. At first reluctant, his master and his family finally agreed that he could leave their homeland and venture forth.
And he did just that. He traveled west and found incredible things he had never imagined. He contined his studies of the elemental magics, and his love of crafting, but his focus shifted to something that was novel and unbelievable to Renzo... the firearm. He became enamored with it and started to incorporate it with his mystical training. He carried a few back with him on his travel home and has come back to the Phoenix clan no mere Wu jen, but a new breed of mage, a Maho no ite, a spell slinger
He would either be a wu jen, if possible, or a wizard with the spellslinger archtype, and being from the Phoenix clan would specialize in fire magic.

Baoyu Fen |

But I didn't make a gunslinger. I made a clockwork panda robot.
And it's the coolest. :)
I like how the magical stone seems reminiscent of the jade from The Dream of the Red Chamber (where my character's last name comes from).
I don't mind skipping gunslinger and going fighter/monk, if there are lots of guns in the setting and they're cheaper/more readily available, I could just have a couple as weapons.

Also as a little suggestion for character "submissions". If you would like to present a character idea keep it setting neutral, meaning no actual game mechanics. That way I can decide on who is in based off of concept rather than mechanics.
So for a good example:
Hun Li Gon is a samurai who hails from the northern lands of ice and snow. He has trained to endure even the harshest of climates and fight the large snow beasts of the land. He is traveling to the city of Kun Poi to seek a new lord and answers when his most honorable lord Omishu died of an unexplained illness leaving nothing behind.
As for a bad example:
Hun Li Gon is a Samurai/Gunslinger who travels to gain loot and experience. He will be trying to earn enough money to buy a +3 Katana so he can woop some butt. He also loves uses his pistol and grit to pull off some awesome tricks.
Now I am not judging based off of writing skill (though it wont hurt) but I do hope to get players who can convey thoughts without having to resort to the actual game terms and rules. And this also helps since you may not know all of the houserules and options available to you before you are selected to play.

Before I get To involved I have to ask Baoyu Fen, Do you think it'd be alright if i include you in my background since we seem to be doing slightly similar things but from different perspectives, I feel it draws characters closer... which is why I ask your permission first
Edit: You know what i'll make it more general and kind of hint at Baoyu Fen (Cause I dunno it seems like a cool combo..Raven and snake)

Perhaps we were friendly rivals that worked on a caravan together? We may have studied a few of the same techniques, but our personal takes on them made us a bit boastful toward one another, always trying to one-up each other, but respecting each other's abilities.
Then we parted ways for whatever reason (seasons and whims change),, and when the campaign starts up it'll be one of those "Oh, it's you" moments, where everyone thinks we're going to kill each other but we embrace as comrades instead.

My character is pretty setting neutral, as most of the OA details can be shifted around to fit into whatever setting you're using. I don't have dragon empires yet (buying it after christmas) so I only have OA to go on.
The intent of the statement is more for others. The characters submitted so far all are fine in this respect.

Interested. This would be my first online RP, so you might have to be a little patent with me.
As for character idea:
Tchzzack, The Tengu Zen Archer (the name is pronounced with two distinct clicking noises the come from the beak, most races pronounce his name as "Theziack")
Tchzzack comes from a school of monks that practice the near dead art of Bow Kata (taken from Equilibrium's Gun Kata or Gun Fu) using a short bow in close combat as most might use a sword. Bow Kata uses statistics, geometry, and physics to generate patterns of firing that are aimed at the most likely place for attacks to be rather than aiming at individuals, and after mastering these patterns they look more like a choreographed dance rather than combat. After having studied the art for 10 years the school dictates that Tchzzack has to complete a journey of enlightenment and having given him no further instructions sent him out into the world.
If I could I would rather play this character as an Oread, I was planing on taking the "stoic and contemplative" to an extreme with the vow of silence (not using the actual vow rules (zen archer already gets rid of still mind)) plus I wanted the bonuses to Str and Wis

Caelesti |

Not completely married to this particular character concept, but it's my favourite at the moment. Let me know what you think. (Samsaran Wizard)

Fredrik |

Would you be open to 3pp like SGG's Advanced Options: Alchemists' Discoveries? If so, how about their Loot 4 Less line, such as Pretty, Pretty, Rings? This is just tentative interest, but I think that an alchemist with Spagyric Devices instead of Mutagens would be interesting to play.

![]() |

I just don't think an Oread fits within the setting. Sorry. There are currently 10 choices for races and I am thinking about adding in Hobgoblin and Aasimar since they are mentioned being numerous in the Dragon Empires.
Now I plan on leaving the recruitment open till new years. After that I will announce who is in the game and give you each instructions on the website and more character creation detail. I plan to have 4 to 6 of you, the number depends on the number of submissions and whether I can make up my mind on who to keep.
One last question, what is everyone's opinions on the Words of Power from UM?

Caelesti |

One last question, what is everyone's opinions on the Words of Power from UM?
Honestly? Great concept, terrible implementation. Far too many of the words are a literal 1:1 correlation with a spell, with no other application possible, but are either less powerful or higher level. I had been hoping for something more like the old spell seed mechanic for epic spells, but designed to work for level 1-9 spells, but no such luck.

Monkeygod |

If I might make a suggestion, this seems like the kind of game almost tailor made for the Hero Point System in APG.
I am not saying this doesn't sound like a fun game, I was just surprised at it only being a 15 point buy.
Also,
If possible pick The Maven to play, that's my younger brother who is new to PbPs and is really, really, really, into OA/Dragon Empire stuff.

Don't worry about treading on toes. If there are multiple people with similar concepts it makes having you grouped a little easier. I am also posting thin in the Campaign Info for reference.
So far I have these people interested with their concepts:
Sorry if I missed anyone or if I missed on a concept. Just let me know and I will edit you in.

As for Hero Points, that is a good idea. And I know exactly how I am going to implement them. It won't be Hero Points but integrated into another variant system I have made for the game.
And to be honest 15 is supposed to be the Standard Fantasy, I think that everyone has just gotten spoiled with the High Fantasy 20.

The idea of an Oriental-style steampunk game sounds like fun. If I may, I would like to submit a character for this as well.
