I've found there are a few rare and magical places that will relax you, rejuvenate you, and let you talk about anything. The dinner table. A campfire. The Happy Cow Tavern.
Welcome to the tavern! This is the place to interact with the rest of the townsfolk when you're not at home or working. So come on in, pull up a stool or join the bench, order a nice, cold adult beverage and maybe partake of the venison stew or spicy fish chowdah. Abigail over there will take your order in a moment.
Enjoy!

Armetrk asked a couple of questions - thought I'd answer them here.
1) What level characters? 1st level - (I have an intro adventure to get you started...)
2) Are we using traits? Yes - you can choose 2 traits (See the Advanced Players Guide or Search the site for traits...)
3) Do I have a 'No Save or Die' spell rule? No, but certainly willing to put it in place!
4) Are we playing in Golarian, or a homebrew setting? Golarian!
Armetrek is prepping an Elf Wizard...

GM &rew |

We have four players!
Armetrek (Matt) - Elf Wizard
Terpsicore (Shannon) - ??
G'Boar Hulighan (Mike) - Human ranger
ManFromIo (?) (Dave) - ??
Once Mike and Dave check in, and Shannon lets me know what she wants to play, we'll get started!!
Hope you guys like this - and please ask lots of questions here!

Please add the following info in the Class block of your profile so it appears under your name:
Class-level | AC x Touch y Flat footed z| HP xx of yy | Fort Reflex Will saves | Combat Maneuvers and Defense | Initiative | Perception |
It will look like this:
Wizard-5 | AC 13 T 13 FF 10 | HP 29/29 | F +3 R +5 W +6 | CMB+1 CMD=14 | Init +9 | Perc +6
ALso, if you want, you can add characters as an alias...

G'Boar Hulighan |

I will need some help with the new antes of this system... The 'technical' differences between this and the D&D of old (and trying to read rules and update info on an IPad!) are challenging me! Might call you this weekend!

GM &rew |

Absolutely! Happy to help =)
Let's start small and we'll work out from there. If you haven't yet, Click on Getting Started and go about halfway down the page to the Generating a Character section. The site normally uses the Purchase option to generate Ability Scores, with 20 points to buy. Ability scores are the same as D&D. Then read the Human race section, and the Ranger class section for overall stats. Look at equipment next - buy your weapons and armor with basic class starting wealth.
We'll work from there on feats and skills =)

Here are actions in combat and how long they take. Drawing a weapon or equipping a shield are a move action, but if you have a base attack bonus of +1 or higher one of these can be combined with a move action.
So...you if you are standing still or only take a 5' step, you can drop your bow (free action), draw a sword and equip a shield (a single move action with BAB +1) and attack (standard action) in one round.
=)

Brilliant! my thanks!

Is there a preferred way/place to note spells, skills, or other information from a character sheet so that they are available like the rest of the stat block?

GM &rew |

Look at some of my PFS characters - that's the best way I've found for the online games. This lets GMs check out what you have and can be a good way to track everything other than on a hardcopy character sheet. I sent some Word documents with a template for a fighter and a wizard - feel free to modify to suit your needs!

GM &rew |

When you click on the "Edit My Profile" button, there should be a big field at the bottom of the page labeled something like "About Harethvain" that you can enter everything into.
Also, for everyone, be sure to check out the Map and Handouts link at the top of the page - I keep a current combat map there. You can edit it - just be careful you don't accidentally move the shapes blocking areas you haven't yet seen =)

Harethvain |

I'll put the large block of my information, but where would I put the information so that my skills show up, like they do for Kayla's skills?
I have a few other questions, too.
I forgot to ask whether it was okay for me to take the "Arcane Training" alternate racial trait (which replaces Multitalented), and I noticed that the SRD suggests checking with the GM first, which suggestion I apparently missed previously.
My bonded item is a staff. I understand the item is meant to be a mundane version of a magic staff, much as the bonded wand is the mundane version of a magic wand. Is it reasonable to use it as a quaterstaff, and if so, does the masterwork bonus apply to my attack rolls?

Harethvain |

Thank you. My intent is not to be able to (eventually) magically enhance the staff as both a weapon and as a magic staff through the Arcane Bond class feature.
Arcane Training: Half-elves occasionally seek tutoring to help them master the magic in their blood. Half-elves with this racial trait have only one favored class, and it must be an arcane spellcasting class. They can use spell trigger and spell completion items for their favored class as if one level higher (or as a 1st-level character if they have no levels in that class). This racial trait replaces the multitalented racial trait.

GM &rew |

FYI, you don't have to list each individual bonus to the skill roll. If you have an ability plus a rank plus a class skill bonus plus maybe a trait you can just add them all together intoa single number. So Rhanloi's knowledge (anything) might be 1d20+8 because he gets +4 for Intelligence, +1 rank, +3 class. Same for combat - kind of. Add your BAB and strength and any feat modifiers (like weapon specialization) into a single number, but add unique additions, like flanking or a bless or bard inspire, as a separate addition. Likewise, if you get a penalty, like shooting a bow into a melee fight, show that as a separate number. So that could look like 1d20+4-4.
=)

Harethvain |

Since Harethvain rolled well on his Knowledge check (I assume with a 28 that I know the shocker lizard's credit score), I assume that he knows what sort of intelligence shocker lizards have. With playing by post, I feel weird making a post just to ask for that kind of information. Do you have a preference for how to handle this sort of "minor but possibly relevant information"? Would you be okay with my going to the SRD to learn (select) information, depending on my Knowledge roll?

GM &rew |

I'm not going to tell you NOT to use the SRD, but try not to overdo it. You can look at the Skill Descriptions and see what the DC checks for basic info on a creature is. I think it would be more interesting to the group and the story if you could find a way to incorporate into a post. Something like:
Harethvain studied the creature for a moment, thinking back to his second year Care and Feeding of Magical Creatures class with old Missus Wartsnout. He recognized the shocker lizard based on its color and the blue electrical pops, but he wondered if it was intelligent enough to be fooled by one of his illusions...

So for this morning's lesson in Pathfinder mechanics, let's talk about Skills! Many skills can be attempted even if you have no training in it, like Climb or Bluff. SOme Skills, however, can only be used if you have put at least one Rank (or skill point) into it. This group includes all Knowledge checks, Disable Device, and Use Magic Device. The Skill chart show which skills can and can not be used Untrained.
I hope you are all enjoying the game so far - let me know if you have any questions!!

Natural Healing: With a full night's rest (8 hours of sleep or more), you recover 1 hit point per character level. Any significant interruption during your rest prevents you from healing that night.
If you undergo complete bed rest for an entire day and night, you recover twice your character level in hit points.

G'Boar Hulighan |

I was talking more about the ranger class skill treating deadly wounds, found here Heal... but appreciate the knowledge on natural healing! tks.

GM &rew |

Ahhh...well, let's see. The link you gave does not specify if it is a self-aid or not - just "a creature." Judgement call - I'd allow it cause in my mind it's like stitching up your own cut.
Without a healer's kit, you would take a -4 penalty. I checked the boards and that is the consensus view.
It also takes an hour.
This to heal 1 point (since you are 1st level.)

G'Boar Hulighan |

Seems like a lot of time and effort (and a significant -4 penalty) for 1 point of regained HP. G'Boar will suffer through the pain and fight on at 10/13 HPs!
BTW, just got my first natural 20 in this game on an appraise check... wonder how long until it gives me another!?!?? :p

Armetrek |

I have played with several different DMs in the past with differing styles with respect to illusions, and since Harethvain is an illusionist, I thought it would be beneficial to ask your opinion on the school and how you run it. I guess I want to make sure that I am not playing a character that hits many or all of the "DM Hates This" buttons.

GM &rew |

I actually liked your posts and you kept a consistent character throughout. Biggest thought is to use the illusions to best aid the party - like you did with the sounds for the dog. Color spray is a great illusion spell =)
We missed your consistent participation. But play by post is not for everyone =)
I'm away for the weekend - will post the magic identification Sunday night our Monday. Thanks for playing!
