Solrisa wrote:"Oh...maybe... Maybe we could let out just a few now?"The street thug is quick to agree with Solrisa. "I think that's a great idea, myself. Didn't know we had to stand trial first. You guys are into suspecting us of being criminals, and you're chasing the kidnappers with clear minds? You even know they're shapeshifters, so you know you gotta deal with them who own this place. You let us out, we'll go get the authorities even. Come on."
"Now everybody just calm down. They are, as you say, shapeshifters and so, as unlikely as it seems, one of you could be in league with them. So I think everybody stays where they are for the moment."
"We're going to go deal with them, and then we'll be back to help you. You'll just have to be patient a little longer."
Ascaria pushes Sol to open the next door, eager to get on to the trouble before they circle around behind in some way - or escape!

Tynan Swale |

Tynan moves up to the door next to Solrisa, eyeing the prisoners suspiciously as he passes them.
"Any of them could be a shapeshifter."
He scans the door at the end of the prison room for malicious traps, prepared to foil any found.

Eri whispers before moving in to chat.
Message: ”Tynan or Mort, would one of you watch the entrance so we don’t get flanked while we figure this out?”
”Please understand that you don’t trust us for the same reason we don’t trust you. Yeh, well, we are at an impasse right now, but I’m sure there’s a way for us to figure this out. Maybe you can tell us your story? “

”Please understand that you don’t trust us for the same reason we don’t trust you. Yeh, well, we are at an impasse right now, but I’m sure there’s a way for us to figure this out. Maybe you can tell us your story? “
"No." Ascaria sighs, "We don't have time now to stand around chatting. We must press on, and quickly, this is not some dinner party where we can all stand around with drinks chatting it up."
"Let's go!" Ascaria nervously paces near the door.

Solrisa Iome Arabasti |

Solrisa's eyes go wide, not understanding yet.
"Oh! So the bad shapeshifters could have locked up the even *badder* shapeshifters!?" Solrisa's hands flinch back from the door that she wanted to open. She smiles within.
"Oh, okay...we're going to come back after we deal with the shapeshifters who hate Tynan and won't accept apologies. I don't understand why some people are so mean, but I need to protect Tynan, ok? I'll come back when we finish that other spots."
Solrisa goes to the next door and waits for others to be ready before opening it.

GM Rat Sass |

Eri's inquiry into the prisoners' prior accounts goes mostly unanswered. An audible 'harumph' is offered by the elven lady, followed by a turning of the back.
Tynan clears the chamber, finding no traps. The locks on the cell doors are quite nice, and would give the lithe man a good run for his money and skill.
The locks are Superior quality.
The prisoners listen to the party's rationalizations for their continued imprisonment, but none of them speak out against your decision to release them. They seem to resign themselves.
...
As the party gathers around the set of double doors to the west, Solrisa opens them, to a large, damp chamber beyond. Much of the floor of this ruined chamber has given way, revealing a large stagnant pool of water below, where the Adivian fails to flow. The planks of floor are covered in mildew, promising a cautious walk to navigate them. Balance Check DC 12 to walk at half speed along the walkways. Failing by 5 or more results in falling into the waters below.
Rusted spears and broken swords break the surface of this pool throughout the room. A framework of soggy timbers that might have once supported the floor still stands, stretching out across the void. There appears to be more space to the northwest of the room, but your vantage from the doorway is limited.
There are bodies trapped between the spears and swords. Some of them appear to still have their travel gear donned.
How do you proceed?
Roll20 map has been updated.

Tynan Swale |

Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33
"We're going to need to be extra cautious, or else we'll end up like those poor souls..." Tynan gestures at the shadowy shapes of bodies wedged between the weapons in the pool, mostly hidden by the murky water.
"I'll go first."
Tynan steps out onto the slippery walkway, and carefully makes his way forward.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23

Ascaria |

Ascaria pouts as he looks to the stagnant water. Gross!
He looks shocked as Tynan heads deftly into the room. ”See anything?”

GM Rat Sass |

Nice bloody roll!
Not only do you see bodies rotting from river water below, but there appears to be one robed figure that has a wrist sheath with two wands, at the western wall. Looks like he almost made it across when he fell.
Also, there don't appear to be any secret doors in the intact northern wall before you left the main platform.
Tynan maintains a decent movement as he steps out and over the waters. His feet remain soundly below him.

"Oh, now you want answers. You refuse to release us, but you'd interrogate us like they do. Because you're in power here. You're not trapped, like we are."
Mortimer listens to everyone's reservations about releasing the prisoners, and sighs shaking his head."Power? I have no power. I don't know what they're on about, but we need to ascertain what's here first. You'll be safer here for the time being. I'll be back!" he says, nodding with some conviction.
"We must press on, and quickly, this is not some dinner party where we can all stand around with drinks chatting it up."
Mort begins to protest, but then thinks better of mentioning the man in the corner cell who offered aperitifs earlier. He's insane, and the setting is all wrong. "Yah, let's get this over with already." he says, looking around.
He sports his ioun torch, then notices Ascaria pouting. "What's the matter, Canary? You don't like the smell? Would you like to ride above it all?" he says gesturing toward his pack and cords, noting how carefully Tynan is pacing through the space.

Solrisa Iome Arabasti |

Solrisa lets the others go first as she intends to go very very very slowly and carefully over the plank so falling doom. Her mind, however, is still on the prisoners in the cages.
"I don't know that I like shapechangers very much," Solrisa babbles cheerfully. "Not sure I know them very well nor can tell if they are good or bad. I like things that are more honest and less tricky."

For the moment, nothing else seems to strike out at either of the precariously-positioned two on the walkways.

Poor Gnome. What I was I thinking volunteering to be his steed? For him, all this wild swinging must feel like being a tether ball dragged around by a rogue bull.
Well, at least we're not in the water. Not yet...

GM Rat Sass |

Hourpen springs into the fray, striking and hitting the outlined creature. Eri repositions, and brings the second creature to sparkly light. Tynan retreats away from the second creature, and towards the first creature. Ascaria strains to keep his comrades on their feet, seeing as how he's depending on them to remain on the walkway himself. Solrisa injures the creature by arrow, while Mortimer fails to connect more than once, as his shattered ribs keep him from taking deep breathes.
Tynan's companion keeps up with him, trying again to beat the slender man over the side.

GM Rat Sass |

Hourpen's blade finishes off the sheened creature, which begins to sink to the water below... Eri, feel free to redo your round action if you'd like, otherwise your ray will target the remaining creature.
I'd allow Spider Climb to overcome the need for Acrobatics Checks to maintain speed and avoid being knocked over by attacks.
Tynan is up! Until I can knock him down...
Also, with the destruction of I1, Ascaria, Solrisa, and Mortimer are now up, also!!
