Okay, revised. Cassidia injured one ringleader badly when she crashed through his crossbow with her strike - he ran back into the crowd, and is still there. Then, Cassidia put one down with her sword and Smaranda got one with her whirlwind kick - so 2 down on that side, one still up.
On Silas's side, you missed with your first mace attack, then crushed the poor guy with your second, so one down and one left there. The ladders are on the east nonetheless, but one is carried by the ringleader and another by a townsfolk.

Yes, indeed - they morale isn't good, that's for sure. Most of the people seem to have the fight taken out of them. If not for the ringleaders, you're pretty sure they'd have broken off by now.

The good news is, you already have what seems to be damning information, and there are ways, as Cassidia has shown to verify the truth through magic. They'd be able to do that in court through their zone of truth.
Of course, Vorkstag could also refute everything Grine says, then you're back to the beginning.

I'm afraid we're all on the same page at this point. We'll have to put our heads together to ask the right questions. Here is the GM's most recent summary of the case. So let's start there.
Tomorrow's trial is for Charlie's ("the Beast") charge of arson against Karb Isle Sanctuary. This requires proof of Charlie's presence at the scene. The prosecution's witness, Dr. Brada's assistant Karl, is literally blind. Here is his original statement to us. He was blinded by flames before he'd had a good look at the perpetrator. In addition, the perpetrator had to have been able to fit through the doors, and so was physically smaller than Charlie. Therefore, there is literally no evidence that I can recall placing Charlie at the scene of the crime.
Karl claims the perpetrator was a creature of "flesh and fur". Does Charlie have fur?
Vorkstag's cabinet contains the flesh of known murder victims whose deaths are attributed to Charlie. This is circumstantial evidence that Vorkstag took the skins from the victims. It is also likely that he, in possession of these skins, is the murderer.
It would be nice if we could prove Vorkstag to be complicit in the arson. It would also be nice if we could get him to confess to these murders pinned on Charlie, or at least explain what he's doing with skins of victims of unsolved murders.
All this might acquit a defendant in a real court, but it seems in Ustalav the prosecutors fight dirty. They're going to be attacking our own credibility, that of Charlie's representatives. Further, the community seems determined to find Charlie guilty regardless of the evidence we present.
Tomorrow's trial is going to be difficult.

Keep in mind that Karl, the lone witness, is blind now. So, the prosecution may make a point of that to put a spin on the claim. Karl said that he caught a glimpse of the beast before he lost his vision. If you think about it, that's the last thing he saw, so it makes sense it'd stick in his mind.
Another thing you found was that Vorkstag had some sort of bit on his shoulder - a scar. That bite could have been from a blood caiman....
Bump! There are still available questions for the dead. If the players aren't sure what to ask, maybe the GM can throw them a hint?

Cassidia has a bunch of questions, I might just behind on getting them asked - have to have a followup checkup from my fall down the stairs a while ago. At least it's nothing new like I stubbed my toe and exploded from it.

Really, you get the idea that Karl doesn't know much more about the Beast's appearance than what he said. He really only caught a glimpse of him and then lost his sight.
