"Sami? Sami, I'm hungry. D'ya have any of that pastry left?"

"Shut up, Willa! Giggles is watchin'. If you screw this up for me, I swear I'll stick this knife between your ribs. If it's the last thing I do before he drops me down to Gaedren, I will."

~Two of Lamm's Little Lambs, overheard while casing a mark.

Korvosa is a proud city. Known around the world as "the jewel of Varisia," with a heritage dating back to the glories of the Chelaxian Empire and a rich local culture including everything from a renowned school of magic to a hippogriff-mounted cavalry, it is a mighty city-state that dominates the region and draws travelers and trade from around the world.

Korvosa is an old city. Though young in years, weathering the beginning of the Age of Lost Omens has hastened the city's decline. King Eodred II is an elderly and degenerate man, more interested in playing with his soft and pretty young toys than ruling. His young queen, Ileosa, is a petty Chelaxian noblewoman disliked by the public and far too inept to rule in her husband's place. The city is held together more by its traditions and its militaristic bent than by any real civic spirit.

Korvosa is a dying, degenerate city. Crime flourishes, semi-legal thanks to the institution of "vice taxes" and the recognition of the thieves' guild. Enrollment in the Acadamae is down, while the number of prostitutes, pickpockets, and con men has nearly doubled. Visitors are many, but immigrants are few. Trade flows through, yes, but increasingly of an unsavory kind: kidnappers, slavers, and drug peddlers all dock in Korvosa's harbor. It's hard to find a city more simultaneously wrapped up in law and order and abandoned--particularly in its lower classes--to hedonism, crime, and decay.

But none of that concerns you!!

You are interested only in one man: Gaedren Lamm, the crime lord who leads a gang of enslaved children known as Lamm's Little Lambs. Whether you seek him out for justice, information, or revenge, he has harmed you in some way. It is time for you to bring his fate home to him.

Character Creation Guidelines:
-20pt buy
-2 traits, no drawbacks
-Campaign Background Trait: Just choose the background that fits your concept from the Player's Guide. You do not receive the trait benefit. You get two traits of your choice instead. If you choose the campaign trait benefit, just pick one other trait.
-150 starting gold
-Classes: All except Summoner. No Psionics. Please avoid "broken" combinations.
-Races: I will consider anything published by Paizo. However, if you choose an obscure race, I must ask for a good backstory to support it. If you're playing a human ethnicity, please provide as many details as you can--eg. Shoanti Quah, relative rank in Chelaxian nobility, etc.
-Alignment: Preference goes to good and neutrals. LE will be considered, but needs a good reason and must be a team player.
-Level 1
-Hp max on lvl 1. On gain, half +1.
-No 3rd party content.

RP is encouraged! As a GM, I reward RPing and creativity!

I'm looking at a 1 post minimum a day during the week and possibly one on the weekend.

Background:
Please submit a crunch and a developed backstory. Adding a physical description and motivations would be nice. I highly recommend both the Player's Guide and the Guide to Korvosa, if you have it. Briefly detail who you are, why you're in Korvosa, what Gaedren has done to you, and what you want from life beyond your immediate, Gaedren-centric goals.

Please let me know your experience/familiarity with the AP. I may change some things up if some of the players have experience with it.

EXTRA CREDIT:
This is optional, but I would love to see characters "in action" for a brief passage. Therefore, if you want, write up a short exchange/description of the first time you found out who Gaedren Lamm was. Again, totally optional, but will be greatly appreciated.

No deadline yet for the end of recruitment, but I will give a twenty four hour deadline once I feel like I have some good submissions.

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to seeing your characters!

Will have something up soon

Human, Virisian, Sable Company Marine

Dotting.

Will create a Human Cleric of Pharasma for consideration. It's late here and I'm headed to bed. I will stat her up and put together a backstory in my morning.

This is The Nine's future application, need to cut her down to size fix her crunch after work.

Ariarh: No huge hurry. I will let recruitment go through the weekend at least.

Interested. Thinking of submitting a human or aasimar paladin.

Background
Talin joined the Sable Company at an early age, training with them. His hopes to be one of the ones soaring above the city, protecting them. That is his focus. Now finally one of the marines, his training has started, training to become one of the revered riders.

As one of his first assignments, while not at the training hall, Capture or kill Lamm. One of the crime lords in the city. He took the job with pleasure. The stories he has heard, made it obvious that this low life needs to be brought in to face trail if at all possible

...I think I just got struck with some adorable inspiration for this.

Lemme see what I can crank out.

Role Play Sample:

Talin stood at attention in front of his commanding officer, Juliana. He didn't move, but on the inside he was about to leap out of his armor in excitement. This was the day he was dreaming about for years. SO he forced himself to listen

"... and so here you are. Ready to grow and achieve greatness with what will become your family, your best friend, and only one you can rely on. But you have to earn their trust. Recently the city guard has reported that a criminal names Lamm has stirred up more trouble than what can be handled. Your first task as one of the Sable Marines is to help apprehend this man. Preferably alive."

Talin gave a salute before he replies
"Yes ma'am. I will make sure this criminal is brought to justice as soon as possible. What if he resists? Is lethal force allowed against him? Or is it not allowed for him to die before a hearing?"

Juliana looked him in the eye
"We prefer him to be captured alive, this man deserves a fate worse than death for what he has done to so many families, but if you see no other way, then yes, you may use lethal force"

He saluted once more as he was dismissed
"One last obstacle." he said mostly to himself. He was going to prove his worth, no matter what

I guess this is part of his background now too :P

CaptainFord, presenting his newest creation, Azzerix Wyrmclaw, a kobold bloodline sorcerer who managed to take over an orphanage solely through pure ego and now hunts Lamm to make him pay for kidnapping some of his "hatchlings" from him.

History:
One would think that a kobold being in charge of a group of orphans would be a truly remarkable set-up for disaster and tragedy. Yet, oddly enough, Azzerix has been possibly the best thing to happen to the Tallowtail Orphanage and her downtrodden residents.

Nobody really knows where Azzerix is from originally (he changes the story of his glorious hatching and arrival almost every time he retells it), but one thing is clear: one day, after the elderly couple running the place had passed away, he showed up and declared himself the city's resident dragon. The children found his posturing and proclamations endearingly funny, opting to play along and become his "subjects." Much to their benefit, Azzerix took to leading the orphanage remarkably well, viewing the children as his new "tribe" as well as his hatchlings.

Driven by the instinct to care and raise his own, Azzerix settled in and began instructing the children how to care and fend for themselves, while providing them with the food he acquired from nearby vendors as part of his "tribute". Even more surprisingly, he gave them actual instruction, teaching them both history (at least, as best as he could) as well as magical craft, alchemy and engineering through trap design. A few of the orphans even discovered their potency for sorcery and casting under his tutelage, and even now, he continues to teach them while encouraging the rest to rise to the challenge and prove themselves equals alongside the casters. Although he still believes himself to be the undisputed "chief" of the orphanage, the surrounding residents have come to see Azzerix as a gift to the poor kids, and now regularly provide him "tributes" to help him keep the orphanage going.

But recently, Azzerix has noticed that several of his kids have gone missing. Being their chief, Azzerix has devoted himself to hunting down the missing children and thankfully, managed to recover one of them. She told Azzerix of a wicked man named Gaedren Lamm, who kidnapped her and many other children, forcing them to do his dirty work for him. Furious at this slight against his hatchlings, Azzerix has begun scouring the city for any information regarding this Lamm fellow, and sworn on his draconic might that he will see him suffer for his actions, not only for himself, but on behalf of the children he calls his "tribe".

Lamm has made himself a very dangerous foe.

RP Sample:
Azzerix's tail slapped into the stone pavement as he stared down at the pair of pickpockets he'd caught. Arms folded over his chest, he stood tall... even though the children probably outsized him by a couple inches. "Arisha. Where have you been? I've been good to you, haven't I? Fed you, raised you with the rest of the tribe, helped you unlock your skill with sorcery! And now you abandon me? Explain yourself!"

The little girl he called Arisha looked back up at him, bleary in her eyes as she nodded slowly. "Yes, mighty dragon. I'm sorry. I... I couldn't come home. I was... scared."

Azzerix's tail stopped swishing at the word, quirking a brow as he cocked his head to one side. "Scared? Of me? I am your guardian drag-"

"-No! Not you, mighty dragon! Of... of Lamm."

"...a sheep?"

Arisha shook her head fervently as she wiped the tears from her eyes. He companion next to her kept silent as he watched the two speak. "No... his... his name is Gaedren Lamm. He kidnapped me... he took all of us. Matches and I, we were looking for a mark... to steal from."

Azzerix's yellow eyes dart onto the boy she seemed to call "Matches" as he shifted back to her. "He... he calls us his... his Little Lambs. And if we talk back or... or try to escape... he said we would feed us to the fishes. I... I didn't... I didn't want to tell him about you. I was afraid... if he knew about the others... he would come for them too! I was scared..! I'm so sorry, mighty Azzerix!" Arisha was apparently unable to hold herself together anymore as she broke down crying into her knees. Matches just looked with fright at the kobold, as if hoping his cowardice would earn him sympathy.

Azzerix just stood silently, watching Arisha for a bit, before slapping his tail on the stone again and uncrossing his arms. Holding out a claw to Arisha, he grunted to get her attention. "Stop crying. We're going home." Arisha started to stop, sniffling now and again as Azzerix helped her to her feet. His yellow eyes snap onto Matches. "You! Matches! Where is your tribe?"

Arisha spoke up before Matches could respond in his complete confustion. "He... he doesn't have one. Many of them didn't."

"They will soon." Azzerix snarled, holding out his claw to help the timid boy to his feet. "We go home. Matches, you are part of the Wyrmclaw tribe now. The other hatchlings will help you settle in, get you fed. I have work to do." Azzerix lead the way out of the alley as his tail swished behind him. Arisha followed after him, with Matches pausing for a moment in uncertainty, before tailing along after them. "...u-uhm... th...thank you..." he squeaked out in a raspy voice.

Azzerix stopped, turning back to look at Matches and Arisha for a moment. "...there is no need. I am Korvosa's new dragon. This is my dominion. I will not tolerate insubordination to me and my tribe. Lamm will pay... and I will be the one to deliver it."

There will probably be multiple submissions for each role/class. I would create what you are passionate about. Role playing is most important to me anyway!

Sylph sage bard go!

I like what you have so far. Don't forget about a tie in to Lamm. Read the CotCT player's guide if you haven't. It is a free download on this site.

Wyrmclaw! Good to see you again!, Hmm, I may have to rethink my character, my witch is much more of a wild type.

Looking good. Try to add a personal reason to hate Lamm if you can.

All: Here is a link to the Campaign "Background" Traits

Dotting in for interest - I'd love to be involved! I'll have to think on a character for a bit.

Liberty's Edge

Hello again GM Mason, Its Darkfire

Anyway I've decided to rework my character to be a Sylph Wind Listener Divination Wizard named Radaya Hyland, a wizard who was educated at the Korvossian Wizards Academy and the daughter of a promanent Summoner Wizard named Elsa there who wanted to "Empower" her bloodline by breeding with an outsider. Unfortunately since Sylph age slowly by the time Radaya was of age to actually train to become a wizard her mother had died from natual causes (Aka: Old age)

I took a background campaign trait of Drug Addiction as she got addicted to Shiver as a way to "Extend" her divination power. Unfortunately it ended up almost killing her and now she wants vengeance on the crime lord that made the drug. A more extensive background is on the sheet.

I will hange my background a bit. Thinking missing child of Loraine. We are now on a city wide search to find her daughter

ifrit wishcrafter former slave looking for little sister, who is still a slave. last heard she was in korvosa. Missing child (sibling) trait.
I have to work tonight will post more tomorrow.

Liberty's Edge

Dotting. Some kind of dashing melee character coming up, possibly bard or swashbuckler.

Please don't let me stop you from making another caster! Azzerix is almost equal parts rogue and sorcerer, so there is plenty of arcane to share.

Korak The Boisterous wrote:

Same here, well met again, Korak!

This is Rennai with a half-elf brawler for consideration. Her backstory and appearance/personality are mostly finished; crunch is still a long way off, but she'll be going pretty standard brawler, relying mostly on unarmed damage and likely using martial flexibility mostly for combat maneuvers.

Roleplay sample:

As the richly appointed carriage rolls into Old Korvosa, a young woman, barely out of childhood and wearing shabby clothing, approaches. Excuse me? she shouts, keeping hands held open above her shoulders. Where is it you folks're lookin' for? Most like it's not here - I can help you out, get your driver where he's goin'. All right if I hop up next to 'im?

At receiving the passengers' permission, she grabs the handle on the side of the coach and jumps up onto the driver's seat. So, where is it you're headin'? Ah, Palace Arkona, is it? Well, it's the right part of town yer in, but it's not fair goin', I'll warn ya. Gotta go straight through Bridgefront - not a nice crowd, but it's home, they know me.

The driver begins to reach into his coin purse with an exasperated expression, but the woman makes a gesture of denial. Sure and I'll take your coin if you wish, but don't feel obligated; I'm not tryin' to hustle ya. As you can see, don't take much coin to live in Bridgefront. She gestures at the squalid buildings surrounding the narrow street, then extends her hand. Mouse, they call me. Don't worry - I'll get you and yours through.

EDIT: By the way, it was the Tortured campaign trait I took for inspiration, though I'm most likely forgoing the benefit of it for another trait.

Though she doesn't know it, her parents were a Shadde-Quah Shoanti man and an elf woman from Celwynvian. The elves never fully accepted the half-elf child living in their midst, so her and her mother were traveling by sea to Korvosa to start fresh when their ship wrecked en route. Marial survived and washed ashore, but suffered severe amnesia, remembering nothing of her past life. Her mother didn't make it. Damn racial penalty to Constitution.

Question: any chance of using the Unchained background skills? It's fine if you don't want to, but I'd like to have them if I can to round out my character a bit.

Im going change power attack to "ride by attack". Hope the rest is fine =^^=

Would you consider allowing the Variant Multiclassing rules from Pathfinder Unchained? I have Silvio Slate here, who is a Unchained Rogue/VMC Alchemist mashup.

Marial "Mouse" Redfist wrote:

Yes...especially since they revolve around RPing and "fleshing"

a character out. By the way, I really like where your character is going.

All: Feel free to check out background skills and add them to your crunch. Please use them to make a more well rounded character and not to max out handle animal if you have an animal companion/mount. I think skills are a good way to be creative in gameplay! I would also look at adding small bonuses (in some circumstances )to an adventuring skill if the player rolled a 10+ on a profession skill that had synergy. Almost like an aide yourself deal.

Enchanter Tim wrote:

Let me look into it. If it's not game breaking, I will consider it. I know rolling the same old classes gets old. I am just new to unchained. I am very flexible though. I just don't want power creep to ruin the game. I like the start of your backstory.

Hooray background skills! :D I really do think they're great - I adopted them in my game I was running the second Unchained came out, and in the IRL game I'm playing in, we adopted them as soon as I could explain to my grognard GM exactly what they were. (Mad love for the grognard GM, btw. <3 He just doesn't keep eyes out for the newest stuff, which is what he has us for.)

Great: ~Will expand on my background now too to add the skills

Background skills i'll add
• Craft (armor) ~ will pre-game crafting be allowed?
• Profession (soldier) ~Unless the Sables fall under something else?

I think the Sable Company would definitely fall under soldiers. I'm not the GM, but that's my two cents.

Yep, love background skills it be my one of my go to rules in unchained.

No problem. Here's the link for Variant Multiclassing.

If the answer is no, I might just remake him as a full Alchemist.

Haha! I've been DMing on and off since AD&D as a child. Those original "theatre of the mind" games were a blast. I don't think we understood half of the rules.

Yes on pregame crafting and the soldier deal.

All right, I believe Mouse is all finished (if there's any glaring errors you notice, let me know). Hope she's to your liking! Her fluff did expand a little as I went shopping for her.

P.S. She ended up fun, I like how she turned out. :D

P.P.S. Added her how-she-got-to-Korvosa story to the profile.

GM Mason, I would like introduce you to Pavo Grimalus, lifelong citizen of Korvosa, cleric of Pharasma, and future martician of the Gray District.

Sarabian here, with my Inquisitor of Sarenrae. He's from the CoCT game that just collapsed. He needs a few mechanical tweaks (back to Level 1, adjust from 15-point build), but is otherwise good to go.

We didn't make it very far - we were on our way to the Eel's End, to give you some idea. The gameplay thread is here, if you want some idea of Gio's character.

He's primarily designed to be a social-skill character, while still offering buffs and minor ranged support in combat.

Archpaladin Zousha here with Pellius Zenderholm, a Sklar-Quah/Korvosan noble bastard Flame Mystery Oracle struggling to find his place between those two worlds! I likely need to make some tweaks to get him legal for the recruitment. Anything specific I should fix? I'll make the changes tonight when I'm not posting from a phone.

Altering Pavo for using Background Skills. Thanks for posing the question, Marial.

Dotting for interest. Might run with an Investigator, although I'm not sure on that yet. I might run something from Occult Adventures, although I'm not sure if you'd count that as a "psionic" class or not.

Interest:

1) Melee/Tanky:
Seth86-Talin Moonscar-Human (Varisian) ranger (sable company marine)
Rennai-Mouse-Female Half-elf Brawler

2) Full Divine:
Ariarh Kane-Human Cleric of Pharasma
TheWaskally-Pavlo Grimulas-Human Cleric of Pharasma

3) Full Arcane:
Captain Ford-Azzerix Wrymclaw-Kobold Sorcerer
Darkfire-RadayaHyland-Sylph Wizard (Wind Listener, Divination: Foresight)

4) Skills/Melee/Partial Caster:
The Nine-Aspexia "Asp" Asploric-Human Rogue
Enchanter Time-Rogue/Alchemist (*researching unchained)
Sarabian-Giorgio Karakos-Half-elf Inquisitor (Infiltrator) of Sarenrae

If I missed anyone, it was by accident. Please let me know. Recruitment will go at least through the weekend (maybe longer), so there is no hurry on submissions. I really like what I am seeing so far.

As I have mentioned, I am flexible with character creation guidelines if someone has a good RPing reason that fits well in the campaign.

Keep the submissions coming and thank you for your interest so far!

Is it all right to submit multiple characters, or would you prefer one character per person? I'm kind of addicted to creating characters, and I may have more ideas to play with, but I don't want to steal an unfair amount of spotlight.
