Kiango blanches. "IN the stream? Merely to follow it!" he nervously walks into the hallway, away from the stream, and waits for his companions there. The depth is irrelevant, water is lethal all the same.

Season of Ghosts

Behind the Scenes:

Sylvak Perc.: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Tupp Perc.: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Theodric Perc.: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Zithembe Perc.: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Hepsubia Perc.: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Ylva Perc.: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Kiango Perc.: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Resolved to return and investigate the hidden passage you found, you all turn and make your way back to the cavern where you encountered the skeletons. As you pass through the main cavern, you briefly pause to inform Uori of the two kobolds you encountered. Though some of you express uneasiness at having let them flee instead of stopping them, the aged gillman just chuckles and shakes his head.

"I believe the show of you numbers you displayed will be enough to deter them from returning anytime soon," he assures you as he reaches into his robes and pulls out a small wand. "You have done me and my people a great service in clearing these caverns of danger. Please, take this - it should serve you well," Uori explains as he offers the wand to Kiango. A quick examination of the wand reveals it to be a Wand of Shield of Faith with 10 charges remaining.
____________

Continuing onward, you return to the small dead-end cavern and file one by one into the narrow tunnel that had been hidden behind the false door. As you make your way forward you find that this tunnel is lengthy, with numerous twists and turns as well as steep ascents and short climbs. After a few minutes you all begin to pick up the sound of a distant voice echoing through the caverns. The further you go, the louder it becomes until you recognize it as the voice of Janira! Realizing that she (and the surface) must be close, you all pick up the pace but the tunnel is narrow and slippery, forcing you to proceed more slowly than you'd like. All the while, Janira's distant voice continues to echo along the tunnel...

"And it was Selmius Foster’s race against a marid and efreeti on the isle of Jalmeray, which taught us that nothing is truly impossible and every situation can end in victory!"

As with the battle against the spider swarm earlier, her words fill you with courage and determination.

Hepsubia & Theodric:

Both of you spot something just up ahead, maybe 20 feet ahead of Tupp who is currently in the front. At first it might just seem like a trick of the shadows but then your eyes register a strange, amorphous mass the color of dirty dishwater that seems to be blocking the way forward. No one else seems to have noticed it and Tupp is currently on his way to walking right into whatever it is...

Season of Ghosts

While poor Tupp suffers a good ribbing from the rest of the group, Hepsubia slips past him and Ylva to have a look further ahead. Trying to be helpful, Sylvak begins scanning the tunnel ahead for magical energies but doesn't pick anything up as his eyes sweep back and forth.

Hepsubia carefully moves forward, slipping into the shadows. She creeps along, slowly approaching the...thing...that she's certain she spotted further up the tunnel. Suddenly, as she's about 10 feet away from Tupp and the rest of you, the air seems to...ripple, slightly. As all of you stare, uncertain of what you're seeing, a strange, slimy, sucking sound is heard...

Season of Ghosts

Armed with a plan, the rest of you scatter into the small side passages while Ylva remains within the central passage to act as bait for the cube. Driven purely on instinct, it oozes slowly after Ylva as she makes sure to remain the most obvious as well as nearest target. It takes some doing but you're all able to maneuver around the cube and back into the main passage. Though it does, at first, try to pursue the group as you continue to flee to the east its slow speed means that you're all easily able to outpace it even going single file. In the process, you do pass by what looks to be a couple of small-sized spears as well as some trap-making tools lying on the ground in the middle of a wet, slimy puddle...but you don't have time to stop for a closer look as Janira's voice is now closer than ever and now you also hear grunting, snuffling sounds occasionally punctuated by angry-sounding roars...
____________

Another post incoming, please stand by!

Season of Ghosts

With the realization that time is of the essence you all race up the remainder of the tunnel as quickly as you can, trying not to slip on the wet ground as you go. As you close the distance with the tunnel's exit, the sound of Janira's voice grows stronger and louder - it would be a welcome sound if not for the grunts and roars of what can only be the minotaur!

You all stumble out of the tunnel and into the light of the full moon and realize that you've exited into another clearing at the base of the Kortos Mountains. The moon's light illuminates a stream, the water's flow hastened by runoff from a recent storm further up in the mountains. A small log seems to have lodged itself across the stream, providing a path across, albeit a tricky one. Just to the right, you can also see a path leading up to a ledge that sits nearly level with the forest canopy.

Yet another roar splits the night air and across the stream you see Janira and the minotaur - both looking worse for the wear. The minotaur's mighty battleaxe looks to be broken and Janira seems on the verge of exhaustion. Still, her voice rings out in reply to the minotaur's roar - "You vile beast! I know not what drives your black heart, but I shall not fail in my duty. I shall see you driven from this forest, back to the hills from whence you came!"

"Hey ugly! Was your daddy a cow? 'Cuz it looks like your mother was a pig," she shouts at the minotaur, grinning like a maniac.

Season of Ghosts

Psst, don't forget the difficult terrain, guys. I also should have been more specific as the dark spindly objects in some of the squares are trees, not bushes. Ylva, I'll move you back just a little since you couldn't have moved a straight line from where you started. Not trying to be nitpicky, just consistent :)

Season of Ghosts

As the group realizes Janira's situation is dire, everyone begins to rush towards the stream and the log lying across it. Hepsubia draws her shortbow and advances forward while Theodric follows suit, pulling out a light crossbow before advancing.

Tupp, katana already in hard, raises it and charges forward towards the log as fast as his little feet can carry him. "Hold on Janira, we're coming!" he cries. Meanwhile, Sori flaps up behind Hepsubia and grants her a little special chicken-style guidance.

Ylva races towards the stream, the undergrowth and a tree slowing her down somewhat but she very nearly manages to reach the stream in just a few bounding strides. She whistles in an attempt to get the minotaur's attention and then insults his heritage, hoping it'll draw him away from Janira. And Sylvak also rushes towards the stream, calling out for Janira to try and lure the minotaur back across the water to play with the gelatinous cube.

"Can you slow him down? I...couldn't...outrun him!" Janira calls back to Sylvak before she snaps her whip at the minotaur with a loud *CRACK*!

"Hvem lærte dig, hvordan man snakkes? Det lyder som om du er fuld af for mange søde ruller fyldt i dine kinder!"

Skald:
Who taught you how to talk? Sounds like you're drunk with too many sweet rolls stuffed in your cheeks!

Intimidate (She's trying to get him to go after her.): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Season of Ghosts

Ylva leaps across the stream and attempts to goad the minotaur into coming after her instead, insulting his skill with words. The minotaur pauses and glances over at Ylva, now on his side of the stream, a flicker of recognition as her language sounds vaguely similar to his own. But in spite of her words, the great beast seems more amused than angry.

"Ha! Lítið gult hár; þú verður næst!"

Giant:

"Ha! Little yellow-hair; you'll be next!"

Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 2
Concealment: <20 is a miss: 1d100 ⇒ 42

The glowing quarrel bathes the minotaur in light.

As long as that hits the minotaur's touch AC, the light should negate the concealment penalty.

Sylvak steps down to the very edge of the water, with one foot out on a large, flat, dry rock. Brandishing his holy symbol, he fixes his gaze on the minotaur.

I can’t edit the map on my phone but I’m moving down one and left one (to the square that’s just barely got a little water in it), and using evil eye on the minotaur: -2 to saves for 8 rounds; DC 15 Will reduces to 1 round.

Season of Ghosts

Theodric takes aim with his crossbow and sheds some light on the subject in one of the most direct ways possible as the bolt sticks into the minotaur's leg! The beast grunts with pain but seems to largely shrug off the glowing projectile, almost as though it were a mere toothpick.

Sylvak edges closer to the riverbank and fixes the minotaur with a withering gaze...

Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

...who gives an involuntary shudder as the bad vibes settle on him like a shroud. Meanwhile Tupp continues charging forward, crashing through the thick undergrowth and finally emerging next to the fallen log. Sori flutters over to Theodric and lightly pecks at his boot, granting him the same sort of strange insight that she gave to Hepsubia.

Hoping to take advantage of the situation, Janira takes another step back - this time closer to the stream - and heaves the tanglefoot bag. It splatters squarely against the minotaur's chest, the goo within quickly hardening once exposed to the air...

Reflex: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 5 - 2 = 14

__________
Double move (35 ft) in preparation of a running leap.
Draw weapon as part of a move action.

Season of Ghosts

Satisfied with his work, Kiango descends the small slope as he draws out the healing wand they'd found earlier and Zithembe continues advancing towards the stream, drawing his weapon as he goes.

Str vs. DC 17: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

With another burst of strength and a triumphant roar, the minotaur manages to pull his feet free from the ground! Luckily he's still badly tangled by the goo from the tanglefoot bag and the thick undergrowth conjured by Kiango; though he struggles towards Janira he's still not able to bring his axe to bear against her - yet.

Not your fault. I forgot about big guys having reach. Welp that's twice that Ylva's gotten in over her head.

Ylva's widen as the axe cuts into her side between two ribs and slices open a lung. Everything moves as if through cold syrup. A scream wells up in her throat as white-hot agony tears through her, but only comes out as a gurgle. The blow lifts her off her feet and sends her crashing to the ground, where she lies curled up and gasping for breath.

well, so much for luring it back to the cave to get help from the gelatinous cube...

Sylvak's dejected gaze at his fellow northerner is suddenly interrupted by a deep, involuntary wince as the minotaur's axe cuts Ylva's side to the spine. Without any good options for offering direct aid to his dying companion, he continues to clutch his holy symbol and twist the strands of fate around the brutish creature in the hopes of keeping it stuck in place.
evil eye again: adding -2 to all ability checks for 8 rounds, DC 15 Will to reduce to 1 round.

Season of Ghosts

As Ylva slowly bleeds out across the riverbank, Sylvak can do little to help except to continue witching the minotaur with his strange magic.

Will (DC 15): 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 5 - 2 = 12

Once again, the minotaur gives an involuntary shudder and now looks around with some confusion, likely wondering who or what keeps walking over his grave.

Season of Ghosts

Hepsubia attempts to fire another shot at the minotaur but the arrow sails way too high, missing him completely. Theodore charges for the stream while Tupp hops onto the log and makes his way across, arms held out for balance.

Acrobatics (DC 7): 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (18) - 2 = 16

Janira, pale but with a look of resolve on her face, stands her ground instead of fleeing for the safety of the stream. "The Monk of the River was blessed by the gods!
