Don't worry, I Don't hold you a grudge, just speaking honestly, giving my point of view. It would have been better if I didn't rushed into action and took the time to explain my plan first. My mistake. But that's how I live my life, and that habit will die harder than me, I guess.

Resolved to return and investigate the hidden passage you found, you all turn and make your way back to the cavern where you encountered the skeletons. As you pass through the main cavern, you briefly pause to inform Uori of the two kobolds you encountered. Though some of you express uneasiness at having let them flee instead of stopping them, the aged gillman just chuckles and shakes his head.
"I believe the show of you numbers you displayed will be enough to deter them from returning anytime soon," he assures you as he reaches into his robes and pulls out a small wand. "You have done me and my people a great service in clearing these caverns of danger. Please, take this - it should serve you well," Uori explains as he offers the wand to Kiango. A quick examination of the wand reveals it to be a Wand of Shield of Faith with 10 charges remaining.
____________
Continuing onward, you return to the small dead-end cavern and file one by one into the narrow tunnel that had been hidden behind the false door. As you make your way forward you find that this tunnel is lengthy, with numerous twists and turns as well as steep ascents and short climbs. After a few minutes you all begin to pick up the sound of a distant voice echoing through the caverns. The further you go, the louder it becomes until you recognize it as the voice of Janira! Realizing that she (and the surface) must be close, you all pick up the pace but the tunnel is narrow and slippery, forcing you to proceed more slowly than you'd like. All the while, Janira's distant voice continues to echo along the tunnel...
"And it was Selmius Foster’s race against a marid and efreeti on the isle of Jalmeray, which taught us that nothing is truly impossible and every situation can end in victory!"
As with the battle against the spider swarm earlier, her words fill you with courage and determination.
Both of you spot something just up ahead, maybe 20 feet ahead of Tupp who is currently in the front. At first it might just seem like a trick of the shadows but then your eyes register a strange, amorphous mass the color of dirty dishwater that seems to be blocking the way forward. No one else seems to have noticed it and Tupp is currently on his way to walking right into whatever it is...

Sylvak nods to the elf to go scout ahead. Then he grabs his holy symbol and casts a spell to allow him to see magical auras and energies. cast detect magic and look up ahead

While poor Tupp suffers a good ribbing from the rest of the group, Hepsubia slips past him and Ylva to have a look further ahead. Trying to be helpful, Sylvak begins scanning the tunnel ahead for magical energies but doesn't pick anything up as his eyes sweep back and forth.
Hepsubia carefully moves forward, slipping into the shadows. She creeps along, slowly approaching the...thing...that she's certain she spotted further up the tunnel. Suddenly, as she's about 10 feet away from Tupp and the rest of you, the air seems to...ripple, slightly. As all of you stare, uncertain of what you're seeing, a strange, slimy, sucking sound is heard...

"Why do we not just go around it? It does not appear to move with any speed."
Instead of fighting this thing, why don't we just pile into the side passages while Ylva baits it. She'll duck into a passage herself and go around it once everyone's past the cube.
Zithembe of the Six Paths |
”Ylva’s suggestion is wise,” Zithembe states.
Will act when I can see the map—after tonight’s interactive, probably.
Hepsubia Althein |
If you're sure it's slow enough, I can do the bait. No problem with me. Sound fun. Always been good at hide and seek. More at hiding that at seeking, to be honest.
GM Ladile |
As some of you begin to fall back, Ylva quickly suggests trying to bait the cube in order to bypass it. The cube does seem to be moving quite slowly so it might be possible to maneuver your way around it and continue onward...
____________
We're still in combat rounds but it sounds like you guys want to try and avoid fighting the cube altogether, yes? If so, please adjust yourselves on the map accordingly and we'll go from there!

You know, one immortal to another, I just figured you didn't need to reassurance as much as the young human. ;)
GM Ladile |
Armed with a plan, the rest of you scatter into the small side passages while Ylva remains within the central passage to act as bait for the cube. Driven purely on instinct, it oozes slowly after Ylva as she makes sure to remain the most obvious as well as nearest target. It takes some doing but you're all able to maneuver around the cube and back into the main passage. Though it does, at first, try to pursue the group as you continue to flee to the east its slow speed means that you're all easily able to outpace it even going single file. In the process, you do pass by what looks to be a couple of small-sized spears as well as some trap-making tools lying on the ground in the middle of a wet, slimy puddle...but you don't have time to stop for a closer look as Janira's voice is now closer than ever and now you also hear grunting, snuffling sounds occasionally punctuated by angry-sounding roars...
____________
Another post incoming, please stand by!
GM Ladile |
With the realization that time is of the essence you all race up the remainder of the tunnel as quickly as you can, trying not to slip on the wet ground as you go. As you close the distance with the tunnel's exit, the sound of Janira's voice grows stronger and louder - it would be a welcome sound if not for the grunts and roars of what can only be the minotaur!
You all stumble out of the tunnel and into the light of the full moon and realize that you've exited into another clearing at the base of the Kortos Mountains. The moon's light illuminates a stream, the water's flow hastened by runoff from a recent storm further up in the mountains. A small log seems to have lodged itself across the stream, providing a path across, albeit a tricky one. Just to the right, you can also see a path leading up to a ledge that sits nearly level with the forest canopy.
Yet another roar splits the night air and across the stream you see Janira and the minotaur - both looking worse for the wear. The minotaur's mighty battleaxe looks to be broken and Janira seems on the verge of exhaustion. Still, her voice rings out in reply to the minotaur's roar - "You vile beast! I know not what drives your black heart, but I shall not fail in my duty. I shall see you driven from this forest, back to the hills from whence you came!"

____________
The lighting here is Dim Light which imposes some penalties unless you've got darkvision or some other method for seeing (or brightening things up). The areas of green are underbrush and are considered Difficult Terrain; if you decide to share a space with one of the trees you will benefit from Partial Cover. Anyone attempting to ford the stream will need to make a DC 15 Swim Check; if you wish to try using the log to cross then you will need a DC 7 Acrobatics Check to move at half-speed.
Sylvak Geldhaar |
With his trusty holy symbol in hand, Sylvak rushes to the water's edge (double move).
do minotaur's understand any human languages?!? I have an idea but there's no way it'll work if the creature understands when I tell Janira... Pulura help me...
"Janira," the priest calls out, "there's a gelatinous cube coming up the tunnel we just came out of! Its slow but hard to see; if you can lure the minotaur in there it may run right into the cube."
Zithembe of the Six Paths |
"She is still battling the minotaur?" Zithembe exclaims in surprise, squinting to make out the battle past the limits of his supernatural vision.
Ylva Whitescale |
Acrobatics to leap across the stream: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16 That's good enough for 15 feet, so it looks like Ylva cleared the stream.
While Sylva rushes in for a shot with his bow, Ylva charges straight ahead, leaping the stream and landing on the other side before taking in a deep breath and letting out a high, shrill whistle.
"Hey ugly! Was your daddy a cow? 'Cuz it looks like your mother was a pig," she shouts at the minotaur, grinning like a maniac.
GM Ladile |
Psst, don't forget the difficult terrain, guys. I also should have been more specific as the dark spindly objects in some of the squares are trees, not bushes. Ylva, I'll move you back just a little since you couldn't have moved a straight line from where you started. Not trying to be nitpicky, just consistent :)
GM Ladile |
As the group realizes Janira's situation is dire, everyone begins to rush towards the stream and the log lying across it. Hepsubia draws her shortbow and advances forward while Theodric follows suit, pulling out a light crossbow before advancing.
Tupp, katana already in hard, raises it and charges forward towards the log as fast as his little feet can carry him. "Hold on Janira, we're coming!" he cries. Meanwhile, Sori flaps up behind Hepsubia and grants her a little special chicken-style guidance.
Ylva races towards the stream, the undergrowth and a tree slowing her down somewhat but she very nearly manages to reach the stream in just a few bounding strides. She whistles in an attempt to get the minotaur's attention and then insults his heritage, hoping it'll draw him away from Janira. And Sylvak also rushes towards the stream, calling out for Janira to try and lure the minotaur back across the water to play with the gelatinous cube.
"Can you slow him down? I...couldn't...outrun him!" Janira calls back to Sylvak before she snaps her whip at the minotaur with a loud *CRACK*!
Concealment vs. Minotaur (20%; Low is Bad): 1d100 ⇒ 31

She attempts to wrap the whip around the minotaur's broken axe but the beast easily bats away the whip. The nimble halfling quickly takes a step back and then digs into her pack, pulling out a single tanglefoot bag.

Theodric DeSoldon |
Question for the GM: Can I retcon my botted double-move from the top of the round?
As the dank tunnels open out to fresh air and open sky, Theodric hears the sounds of battle. Moving forward a moment, he sees what's going on in the moonlight.
"Oh dear! Hang on, Janira!!"
He then mutters to himself, "Let's throw a little light on the subject..."
Taking a quarrel from his quiver, he raises it to the sky while gesticulating with his other hand as he intones strange words...
"الأم المقدسة من الفجر ، يرجى يبارك لنا مع الضوء المقدس الخاص بك!"
The spell is cast, and the fletching of the crossbow bolt now shines as the warm glow of an afternoon sun.

Minotaur Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

"Standið enn lítið plága, svo ég geti slitið þig!"
"Rahaha! These puny plants are no match for my might!"
"Stand still little pest, so I can END you!"
From her position near the opposite riverbank, Hepsubia casually takes aim with her bow and fires a shot at the oversized cow...and hits! The arrow *thocks* into the minotaur's shoulder, eliciting a roar of pain and surprise!

GM Ladile |
Theodric takes aim with his crossbow and sheds some light on the subject in one of the most direct ways possible as the bolt sticks into the minotaur's leg! The beast grunts with pain but seems to largely shrug off the glowing projectile, almost as though it were a mere toothpick.
Sylvak edges closer to the riverbank and fixes the minotaur with a withering gaze...

Hoping to take advantage of the situation, Janira takes another step back - this time closer to the stream - and heaves the tanglefoot bag. It splatters squarely against the minotaur's chest, the goo within quickly hardening once exposed to the air...

Disarm vs. Minotaur (MW Whip; Fatigued, IC): 1d20 - 1 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (5) - 1 + 1 + 3 = 8
...but she's still unable to catch hold of the beast's axe.
