All done and good to go.
So we're off to mine naquadah, are we? :op
Vincent Blackwood |
Vincent is updated for level 5. He... is apparently carrying 3 greatswords around, since I couldn't afford both the swords AND a magic item to hold them all.
Just to double check, I couldn't just upgrade my +1 sword to a +1 <special material> sword, right? My math assumes I had to sell my old sword and buy a new one. It's just a loss of 500, so I'm not really too worried about it.
Vyk Tyr |
Three swords, huh? So Vincent has fully transitioned into a Final Fantasy charcater? Cool.
And, yeah, Vincent, I believe you did the right thing.
On an OT note does anyone here have any experience with OVA the Anime RPG? I picked it up on DriveThruRPG.com and it looks pretty cool so far.
тυιcн |
Vyk: Not I, but it sounds interesting. There are a handful of "anime worlds" I'd love to play in.
Can you offer a general sense of what they had to do differently from, say, Pathfinder or Savage Worlds to accommodate anime environments specifically?
By the way, relative to Carrion Hill (the scenario): I ran an unremarkable-in-every-way college freshman in a Lovecraftian game. It was way unnerving. Looking forward to equally bizarre vibes here. :o)

The general gist seems to be that you pick your strengths and weaknesses and subscribe a value to them. When you make an ability check you add the relavant strength or weakness.
So if you have attack (fists of dury) +3, then you roll 2d6 plus 3d6. You roll the 5d6 and pick the highest result. But doubles add together.
So say you rolled (1,2,4,4,5). Then you add the 4's togther and get a result of 8.
Granted, I'm very early in reading the system, so I have no idea what an 8 means.
The sample characters incuded in the book have a gender bender samurai, a magical girl ala Sailor Moon, a military grade android dressed in cosplay, and man-hating business woman with a demon arm.
It looks pretty robust. Granted this is very first impressions.
Vincent Blackwood |
Ha, sounds pretty great. I haven't looked into that system. I recently got into Dungeon World and it's pretty great.
And Vincent isn't full anime until he has multiple belts.
тυιcн |
And cat ears. Definitely cat ears.
Miko ponders Tuich's remark and wonders what it means to her.
Sorry for the lack of context, Miko. It's a backstory thing. Those who were with Tuich on her shakedown mission (In Service to Lore) might recall a similar reaction at having to enter The Pickled Imp for a meeting with Guaril Karela. Unfortunately, among this group that's only Vyk (and Kawrock, if his owner-operator weren't GMing).
OH... and there was the time we had to head north to (I believe it was) Riddleport for a mission. She was pretty jumpy then, too. I don't remember if you were part of that team or not.
GM Kyshkumen |
God's Mouth Heresy. Not riddleport, but it was Varisia. That reminds me I have a special scenario for Tuich when you get to the 7-11 tier.

StephNyan here!
I figured I'd play this game with my fighter Jeffrey. He's level 4, but his defenses are quite sound. I expect he'll be able to hold his own just fine! :)
I by the way gave my GM sheet from Fangwood Keep to Jeffrey. Once he has enough PP he'll move his odd jobs company, Warren Inc., to the keep!

I... don't think I wanted to know that. :o/
Welcome, Jeffrey!

GM Kyshkumen:
At level 5 Vincent gained the ability to use Discern Lies as a spell like ability for 5 rounds per day. Activating this ability is an immediate action.
My assumption for immediate actions is that you can declare them after the thing that triggers the action, and they take place before the trigger finishes resolving. For instance casting Feather Fall is only helpful if you can declare that you cast FF after you're told that you're falling, but it still goes off before the instantaneous fall resolves.
In a play-by-post setting, how do you see it working? I can't very well say, "I will use Discern Lies on the next thing that Harold says." I'd quickly run out of uses over phrases such as "Greetings travelers!" Can I assume I can wait until after a phrase has been said to use Discern Lies on it?
I'm also aware of the potential ramifications of using a spell-like ability in the middle of a conversation, but I'm fairly sure Vincent can cover for himself in awkward social situations. It also helps that (Sp) abilities technically don't have verbal, somatic, or material components. I'm under the impression that they still involve some sort of deliberate action and create a magical disturbance that can be sensed well enough by those around to identify with a successful Spellcraft check. Is that about how you view them as well?
GM Kyshkumen |
Immediate action is a type of interjection as you pointed out. Since I am not speaking in front of you and you basically can use it for 5 minutes a day in 1 minute increments, just let me know when and where you would have liked to use it.
As far as the spell like ability goes, yes some people can tell when you are doing it. Something I did with my own inquisitor was specifically call attention to it and what it was before I started asking questions, as an interrogation tactic.

Sounds fair. It's only for 1 round/level per day though, unlike the spell.

Been having problems getting to the site for the last couple of days and now I return to find a whole "everyone but Tuich" conversation going on.
Good thing she's not paranoid...

Khismia's player (Tiaburn) is faithful contibutor in my games, and he recently posted this:
Very sorry for possible delays, but I have on my plate quite a big chunk to chew: I am acting as boss replacement, while he is on vacation + organizing local convention for PFS + dealing with some home stuff. I'll try to be responsive but delays here and their might occur. Should be better after March, 8th and back to usual after March, 19th
Sounds like he has been hit by the perfect storm.
Khismia al-Khair |
Sorry for not contributing much here. I could not complete my level-up and I didn't wanted gameplay post in this threads affect my spell/feat decisions. I am fine now, alias updated and I am reading everything happened in the game, while Khismia was "delayed at Ustalavic customs because of her caravan taxes".
DM Kludde |
I'll be travelling from March 9 to March 20, and I'll be completely off-line during that period. Until that time, Iwill gave only sporadic internet from my phone, which is not quite enough to make extensive posts. On the 21st, everything should be back to normal.
тυιcн |
Have a great time and we'll look forward to your return!
Vyk Tyr |
Hey, GM, just wanted to ask you something before battle starts. Vyk's Cast defensively bonus is +14 right now. Which means I would auto-succeed cantrips. Do you still want me to roll for the cantrips?
GM Kyshkumen |
Unlike other afflictions, multiple doses of the same poison stack. Poisons delivered by injury and contact cannot inflict more than one dose of poison at a time, but inhaled and ingested poisons can inflict multiple doses at once. Each additional dose extends the total duration of the poison (as noted under frequency) by half its total duration. In addition, each dose of poison increases the DC to resist the poison by +2. This increase is cumulative. Multiple doses do not alter the cure conditions of the poison, and meeting these conditions ends the affliction for all the doses. For example, a character is bit three times in the same round by a trio of Medium monstrous spiders, injecting him with three doses of Medium spider venom. The unfortunate character must make a DC 18 Fortitude save for the next 8 rounds. Fortunately, just one successful save cures the character of all three doses of the poison.
Vyk Tyr |
Spells left
2nd— glitterdust (DC 15), invisibility, mirror image
1st— shield, shocking grasp (2/3), vanish[APG] (DC 14)
0 (at will)— arcane mark, detect magic, prestidigitation, read magi

Man, I have been rolling horribly for this entire encounter.

Sorry going to be a bit of a delay. My daughter has been running a high fever the last few days. Hope to get an update in tomorrow

I'm on a short break in the mountains until May 10th. If I don't post in time , please bot me.

GM, here's hoping to hear a positive update on your daughter.
All: My apologies for disappearing on you again. Life unexpectedly went off the rails a while ago, and I'm only now getting caught up again. This was a random/freakish thing and I don't anticipate any further schedule problems until Autumn. (But then I didn't anticipate this either, so...)
Jeffrey Warren |
I've been rather busy the past two days, but I'll be able to post again tomorrow! :)
GM Kyshkumen |
Sorry for the delays, my daughter is doing much better. It looks like it was a reaction to the shots she had the previous week. I've just been busy trying to catch up on things at work for the days I missed. Also it looks like Wednesdays are going to be slow posting days for a bit as I will be working in a different office and I do not know what their rules on internet use are.

Khismia al-Khair |
My time to ask for forgiveness. Have to much on my plate at the moment, but it should become easier next week and I will return to full-strength gaming. Please, bot me if needed to keep story going.
Jeffrey Warren |
Dear people, the end of the semester's approaching and I want to focus fully on the assignments I still have to complete. Therefor I won't be making any posts on this forum till Friday. I look forward to continuing our adventure then! Please bot me in my absence.
Jeffrey Warren |
I'm back! :)
Miko Teppen |
I had some fun in Spotify building a list of songs that Miko quoted or used as inspiration for her posts. The last one came from a Dutch one by de Kift (which only Jeffrey would understand), which in turn is derived from a short story by W Borchert (die Lange strasse entlang).
So yeah, I rip off songtexts. I've linked the playlist in Miko's profile. Use only with military grade cheese protection.

I too am back in catch-up mode. Got unexpectedly broadsided last week.

I could cast a glitterdust spell to blind the wackos. Would Vin and Jeffrey be amiable to a disengage action so I don't hit you with the glitter bomb?
Jeffrey Warren |
They're squeezed together in a room, with they only way out blocked by a tank they can only hit on a natural 20. You sure about wasting a spell on them?
I'm normally against leaving someone to fight alone, but I'd like to suggest you explore another room while I hack away at the fools.
Miko Teppen |
I'm just happily grating the cheese while you're in combat. You seem to have it under control. Just let me know when I start being too useless.

Well, I'm enjoying your writing. I'm fairly sure the rest of us are as well. And that's really the point of the whole thing.
