Rennyn has taken no vow of celebacy. As long as the relstionship is consensual, well defined and without deception I see no issue.

I assume you have purchased the additional packages for HL Matt?

Regarding alignment, seeing as how I am playing a paladin... ;)

It's helpful that you speak celestial because that is all I can speak or understand during combat.

Sense motive= 1(rank)+3(class skill)+5(wisdom) no problems there.

I will readjust my wealth.

Yeah I figured, but it is fortunate.

I am not having any success finding character files in dropbox or info on anybody's page. Can anyone summarize classes and alignments so far?

i.e. for this campaign, what classes are you guys playing and what alignments/ethos are you (or is that something we don't know until we start, that would be kind of neat!)?

Stacy is playing Fenra, a CG half-elven oracle.

Pierre is playing Kenan, a LN dwarven monk archer.

I am playing Rennyn, a LG elf paladin.

Technically, non of you have ventured down the career paths of your choice; be it mage, paladin, monk or oracle. The idea behind the bonus skill point (intended for a profession) was to introduce a crossroads in your lives. Will you choose to follow in your family's profession, or will you follow your heart's desire? All that remains is to open the door and take those first steps down the path of adventure, figuratively speaking.

Since all of you have known each other for many years, it is safe to say you all know what sort of person each other is and accept each other for who they are. You also know what each of you aspire to be. In the forum, you can click on the any of the PC's icons to see their profiles. There shouldn't be any character files for this AP in dropbox unless the players want them there.

Fenra:
I'm getting creative and have something special in mind for you. This will be introduced in the early stages of the adventure and is inspired by Fenra's background. I'm fine with how it reads, but I'd like to add that Fenra has secretly noticed a new talent of a spiritual nature. Up to now it has been very fleeting, just a feeling of sorts, however her talent weakens with each incident of infidelity. So sometimes it will work, but never after a fling. You have not shared this with any of your friends or family yet, as you are still unsure it exists.
Some manga emphasis the sexuality of female characters but they are never portrayed as loose. Loose female characters are a much different genre known as Hentai. Manga characters may be drawn as being hyper-sexualized but their honor is kept in tact and there is always a strong message of empowerment. So, be flirty, be playful, dress provocatively (it won't hurt your AC :)) but future flings with PCs are off limits. We've dropped the relationship build and don't want things to get weird.

Kenan:
I noticed you have chosen fisherman as a profession. This will be an asset while in Sandpoint, but not much use elsewhere. Might I suggest trapper instead? None of the other PCs have any sort of survival skills and trapping shares many of the same skill sets.

Pathbuilder link Perception +13| AC 24| Fort +14| Ref +12 |Will +17

Sorry Matt I thought you meant to create your character. If you click on the character name here (the ones we will be using in game) it will show you all the info we have entered in for them.

GM:
I thought Hentai involved tentacles. When you say talent do you mean oracle talents or something different? I can leave the PCs and core NPCs alone but you are severely cutting into Fenra's free-spirit attitude and affecting her hedonistic drawback. Infidelity implies that she is tied to someone in particular and is breaking a trust which is not the case; there is no infidelity. Loose and loss of 'honor' also implies a specific moralistic attitude. She is definitely not virginal and picks her partners as she chooses. If you don't wish me to play her that way let me know and I will rework her.

As you know, I had wanted to start today. However with two players otherwise engaged, we will have to post-pone until next week at the earliest (November 7th?). By then I hope to have some more information from Kalist regarding his mage and start placing PCs in Sandpoint.

Since there has been little discussion about your history together, I'd like to offer that everyone is at least good with these basics:
You have all been friends for years.
Up to now you have lived under the careful eye of your parents or guardians and having reached maturity have a choice to make regarding your futures.
Everyone enjoys a night out at the Rusty Dragon and you venture there at least once a week to mingle and catch up on the latest tales/gossip around Sandpoint.
Everyone is well acquainted with Ameiko.
Feel free to make stuff up about each other in game play; interesting antidotes and references to you past together etc.

Comments? Suggestions?

Pathbuilder link Perception +13| AC 24| Fort +14| Ref +12 |Will +17

Fenra is a pretty easy going and easy to get along with type of person. She makes friends easily and even ex-lovers have nothing but good things to say about her. She is a well known figure around the town and often dances in Ameiko's tavern. She is well acquainted with the others and may even have been more intimately acquainted on occasion. (Apparently Rennyn is up for it and his charisma is high enough, Kenan would have been a no go, physical attributes are a pretty big factor, don't know about the last PC yet ;) )

Fenra is not having quite the crossroads that the others may be having. She needs no external reason to join this caravan because her family is on it, she would naturally go. Maybe you need her to help convince Sandru and Koya to help Ameiko out and she is eager to go on something other than a routine run. The other thing you mentioned could be more her struggle.

Childish Quasit...Rabble-Rousing +28| Fluff +25 ....| RAW -29 | Poor form +33 Watch order: Draeven, Rennyn, Anara, Fenra, Sharadei

@Aphin: Since Fenra is part of the Sandru and Koya family, how do you feel about coming up with personalities and descriptions for them? Don't forget the Quirks? :)) I have a couple ideas of how to run them, but it would be nice to have other input. There is plenty of time to consider as the group will not have reason to interact with them until the second half.

Changed my avatar because I realized I am not an old man. I can't find info on starting spells for a wizard. He is a level 1 evoker, does he start with knowledge of all level 0 spells and all level 1 evoker spells, or do I pick 3 level 1 spells of any type to know? Where would I find this info? It has no mention in the main book or in ultimate magic. Very frustrating :(

Childish Quasit...Rabble-Rousing +28| Fluff +25 ....| RAW -29 | Poor form +33 Watch order: Draeven, Rennyn, Anara, Fenra, Sharadei

Page 79 of the Core Rule Book sums it up. It looks as though Jeryn is specializing in one school of magic, Evocation School. He has access to the boons outlined in that school of magic (p.81) plus all 0 level spells and three 1st level spells of his choice. Spells listed as "evocation", such as magic missile, apply to Jeryn's specialty and will receive the bonus damage mentioned.

Don't forget to choose two opposing schools of magic in Jeryn's profile. Spells from these opposing schools require two spell slots to prepare/use.

Did this help?

Childish Quasit...Rabble-Rousing +28| Fluff +25 ....| RAW -29 | Poor form +33 Watch order: Draeven, Rennyn, Anara, Fenra, Sharadei

As far as descriptions go, please don't feel as though you need to stick to what Herolab says. Right now, I'm having a hard time picturing what any of you are wearing. Lamellar armor? what else? Simple attire? Is that jeans and a t-shirt? And while I don't see anything wrong with Fenra wearing only a scarf, perhaps the rest of Sandpoint will have something to say :) In this realm, you are all free to wear whatever you want.

I want you all to feel free to have unique and aesthetic tastes in fashion. Go ahead and personalize your adventuring gear. If you want to be authentic, then be authentic - just don't forget to describe it. ACs or special weapon/armor features will not be adjusted based on elaborate descriptions.

Fenra:
Fenra, if you want to wear sexy, revealing things, you don't need my permission. Your armor can be as provoking as you want it to be - it will not affect your AC ;) As Fenra adds armor to her inventory, try to keep the description of it true to the materials it is made up of. So if Fenra has chain mail listed as her armor, most of her outfit could read like she is wearing nothing more than a cocktail dress, just accessorized with a little bit of chain mail.

What I do want more of is detail. Detailed descriptions of what you wear, how you react, how you fight or defend yourselves. A few extra sentences now and then to add realism. I will try to remember to let you have access to things like creature AC and current HP to help with this.

There are other things to think about bringing to life as well. For instance, what are your goals? How will your character evolve as the AP moves along? We can work that out as things progress.

Childish Quasit...Rabble-Rousing +28| Fluff +25 ....| RAW -29 | Poor form +33 Watch order: Draeven, Rennyn, Anara, Fenra, Sharadei

Am going to give the hunter a couple days to get his stuff together. In the meantime, Kenan and Jeryn may have something to add to the conversation or questions about what's been overheard.

Jeryn:
You still have not created a profile - its kind of important Bud :) Click on your avatar then on the tab that says "Profile" and follow the link to create profile. Herolab has an export feature under either the file or edit menu that will let you copy your character's information as plain text. Copy the text and paste it into the box that says "About Jeryn" and format it to your preference.

Sorry about that, got it all uploaded. Selected 7 level 1 spells because it said to pick 3 + int modifier. Hope I did that right. Please let me know if there's anything in there I did wrong.

First time playing a wizard - how do spell components work? Do I have to buy a ton of them or is it assumed he has ones for basic spells? If I have to carry spell components, where do I get them from? Didn't see anything under the gear tab in herolab.

Pathbuilder link Perception +13| AC 24| Fort +14| Ref +12 |Will +17

You buy a spell components pouch and it has everything you need unless the spell calls for a 100gp diamond or something like that.

As far as Fenra's armor, she actually doesn't have any. She has that star cloak thing and that is all she will use. It lasts for one hour per level so she might be vulnerable at times. Perhaps in the future she will decide to go with armor but right now she will never have it. She is also not wearing anything scandalous, but I totally get your need for a description, makes total sense. I will do it.

Childish Quasit...Rabble-Rousing +28| Fluff +25 ....| RAW -29 | Poor form +33 Watch order: Draeven, Rennyn, Anara, Fenra, Sharadei

Good work Jeryn, I'll politely ask the Lich to glare at it on Monday. :)

In the meantime...
I see your equipment inventory does not include your spell book. As you can only prepare spells listed in your spell book, you should include a section in your profile for the spell book, listing its contents. The number of spells you mentioned seems right.

It looks like you are over by one 1st level spell for your daily allotment. But I see you may be including your spell like ability (Energy Missile? if this is different can you please reference where you found it as it does not appear in the PRD spell index) with Jeryn's daily spell allotment. I find it easier to keep track of spells by separating these abilities from your daily allotment. Adding a line under each spell level entitled 'USED SPELLS', also helps to keep track of what you have left.

~Human Evoker (lvl 4)~ Perc +7 Init +1 AC 19 (15+4 mage armor) HP 25 Fort +2 Ref +2 Will +4 CMB +2 CMD 17

Yeah I'm not too sure, I was just doing what herolab told me. I know I get a bonus 1st level spell due to specializing. I might get one due to int modifier? I have a class skill called 'force missile' (I think) that can be used 7 times per day right now, something like 1d4 + 1 damage or such. Energy missile was just in the list of level 1 spells, I'll see where it came from in herolab next time I have my laptop open.

Childish Quasit...Rabble-Rousing +28| Fluff +25 ....| RAW -29 | Poor form +33 Watch order: Draeven, Rennyn, Anara, Fenra, Sharadei

Fenra, before this goes any further on the game play, lets move these sorts of comments to the discussion thread, where they belong.

Rennyn, its good to know where you stand. Perhaps that was a bit much, but how are we supposed to know where boundaries are unless we push a little? :) Ultimately, I want to get away from "X is wearing his leather armor" and put more detail into our posting. I thought I was heading in a good direction but you don't seem to like it so I will ease up. No sense in staying the course if the person who requested this AP is losing interest. What about the rest of you? Opinions so far?

Regarding Rennyn not sleeping, I wasn't thinking of a house rule. I was suggesting that if a character forgoes sleep that he will be subject to fatigue, just as any of us normally would. IMO, this is similar to "sleeping in armor". However, your understanding of elves and mine are not at the same level. Since you have more experience and have read more on the subject, I will concede that, while a little weird, elves don't sleep, they trance. I didn't know that though - just thought they were immune to sleep enchantments. :P

I thought separate avatars for each NPC would be cool. Unfortunately, as you have surmised, a few others on paizo thought the same thing so the correct spelling is not available. It is not too late to change the names, but now I'm wondering if I should I stick with separate avatars or just us my GM name for all posting? I can't decide either way.

~Human Evoker (lvl 4)~ Perc +7 Init +1 AC 19 (15+4 mage armor) HP 25 Fort +2 Ref +2 Will +4 CMB +2 CMD 17

I'm up for whatever you guys are in terms of descriptive postings, albeit I am not as verbose as Ameiko and Fenra. In forgotten realms books, elves/drow undergo a state of 'reverie' which is the trance I think you are talking about. Not really sleep but more of a meditation where they think about things...kind of weird...

If you want to make different avatars for each NPC would you be able to just throw in a couple consistent letters, i.e. 'NPC Ameiko, NPC Shalelu' or 'DM Ameiko, DM Shalelu'. I don't know, just a thought.

Having fun so far and it looks like we are going pretty quick as far as play by post goes (as per my limited experience)!

Before your rookie GM gets too far into this AP, we still need to iron out some of your backgrounds. I'd mentioned this before but let it slip so we could start play. Well, this has caused a couple kinks (my bad) and I'd like to avoid this in the future.
So far, only Fenra and Jeryn have included a history in their profiles which includes mention of their oddities/quirks. Good! But I'm still waiting on Kenan and Rennyn. It doesn't have to be long, but a couple sentences about how you came to live in Sandpoint and how those scars got there would be nice. This should be information that everyone is likely to know, like he's vegetarian (good quirk by the way) and everyone remembers the fire that burnt down such and such's place. And while I'm thinking about it, Jeryn please include separate headings in your profile for spell book contents and spells known for the day.

I've made the mistake of assuming non of you are very familiar with Shalelu. As a heroic fixture of Sandpoint, all of you will have come across Shalelu at some point in time. Because of this oversight, I am retconing Shalelu's tone when she speaks with you. She is not mildly condescending but patient.

So now all of you need to explain how you have come to know, if at all, the main NPCs: Koya, Sandru, Ameiko and Shalelu. How do you see this happening? At least one of your traits is linked to, or should be linked to, one of the NPCs, so this should help. Fenra, I know you have touched on this in your background (adopted by Koya and your relationship with Sandru), but what about Shalelu and Ameiko?

We usually don't talk much about etiquette. Most etiquette we already put into practice, but let me say that for this AP, OOC blue should be reserved mainly for in-game mechanics. OOC is needed, but IMO, the less OOC blue in the game thread the better. Information such as SA with shortbow attacking X at D10 | XYZ spell active (round 2 of 4) is good to have at the end of posts as well as notices of absences. Naturally, there are going to be odd times when we are tempted to comment, OOC or IC, and that comment will be over the top. Bottom line, it is better to make comments about another character's style or actions IN CHARACTER in order to give the other player a chance to respond IN CHARACTER. Remember, you are all good friends, so any over the top comments can, in the end analysis, be put down as ribbing or teasing, but they NEED to be resolved first for RP'n sake! As an added bonus, keeping comments IC also adds more flavor to the AP as there are consequences for your actions. Very Manga :)

I've been trying to find a site with some ROLE PLAYING ETIQUETTE. Here is another SITE. Has anyone come across similar sites they like? If you have, please share.

My apologies for screwing things up.

Short (and rough) post to get the bio rolling.

Quirks & drawbacks: vegetarian, intense honor/pride and overprotective.

Reason for being in Sandpoint: Rennyn wandered into town a few years ago and befriended Ameiko almost immediately. Being destitute most of the time, he took to stowing away within the inn after closing, often trancing wherever he could hide away. Eventually Ameiko found out and offered to exchange room and board for help keeping the peace within the tavern. They have since become best friends.

As time has passed, Rennyn has become torn between his friendship with Ameiko (and the others) and his desire to get out and see more of the world.

Significant backstory element: Although he is reluctant to talk about it, some of you are aware that at some time in the past, Rennyn showed great promise as a spell caster. But then something traumatic happened and he turned his back on such pursuits and vowed to become the best swordsman he could be. It is suspected by some that someone close to Rennyn died and he feels responsible.

I will add more later. Including personality and relationship notes, once I reread who Koya and Sandru are. :)

Pathbuilder link Perception +13| AC 24| Fort +14| Ref +12 |Will +17

I never properly stated Fenra's quirk. She has the drawback hedonistic which ties in with her quirk of being pretty affectionate with people. Random kisses, personal contact, etc. will be the norm unless I forget :) the hedonistic drawback means she must receive a gift, reward or treasure worth at least 10gp or spend an hour on entertainment or pleasure or be fatigued the next day for 4hours if she fails a fort save.

If anyone has an issue with how I have made this character, or anticipates it making them uncomfortable in any way please let me know and I will change things now before we really get started.

Fenra's full background is on her profile.

Excellent! Rennyn, I'm looking forward to your take on Koya and Sandru. The short and rough is a great start...now if I can just remember it :) Copy and paste this into your profile and I should have little excuse in the future.

Fenra, any news about Ameiko and Shalelu?

With two started and two to go I look expectantly over to Jeryn and Kenan. Now, I know some of us have been "snowed" in for the last couple days and have not been able to jump on this, but by the end of next week perhaps? In the meantime, we should be able to carry on with exploring the marshes.

Fenra is very good friends with Ameiko and they have a close relationship. She frequents her tavern and as was demonstrated, is used to sharing her food. Her nicknames for her include star and little bird, mostly because of her musical talents.

Shalelu, while known to Fenra, is not a close friend. They are acquainted but Shalelu's lifestyle, out in the woods and travelling, means they haven't crossed paths as often. The tavern is where they would have been in contact most often and through their shared friendship with Ameiko.

Kenan would be the logical choice to go last. :) You know being the archer and all.

I completely disagree. Even if you think all encounters are going to begin at less than 30' it makes more sense for Kenan to be point. At this juncture there is little functional difference between Kenan's melee and ranged attacks. In fact, point blank requires you to be 30' or closer to gain any benefit over your melee attacks (and it is marginal). You can switch interchangeably between bow and unarmed strike, have the highest perception in the party and the best flat-footed AC of all of us (& tied for best AC as well).

I can't actually think of a con to Kenan being point over Rennyn. (He has 1 less HP than Rennyn?)

Story wise, we are in Kenan's "backyard" at the moment, it would seem logical that he be leading the group through territory most familiar to him.

And besides, Rennyn is just as good an archer at the moment as Kenan is. :)

My thoughts anyhow.
