Scowling at the deep scratch, Aurum responds, "That's what I get for not thinking of this sooner."

Stepping away from the cat, he stares purposefully at it. He calls out, "Go." He finishes by drawing his spear.

5' step, cast cause fear (Will DC 15), draw longspear.

Modekai moves up towards the leopard, for that is what the creature is. Although those with any knowledge see that this is still a young one. Aurum then casts his spell.

Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

The young cat turns around on his feet, moving as quickly away from the spellcaster as possible!

Calling combat, Aurum can make an AoO if he wants, but the leopard won't come back and it has a speed of 30, making pursuit useless.

You prepare dinner and rest for the night, keeping a vigilant watch to make sure you are not disturbed. The next morning, after making breakfast, you continue on your way.

After traveling for 1 hour from the base camp, the mountain route takes you through a narrow valley, which terminates in a rock wall. A large crack, forty feet up the wall, looks large enough to allow an adult human through. Several small cracks and holes dot the entire surface of the rock wall. A rock overhang, ten feet above the gash, acts as a natural roof, sheltering the immediate area from the elements.

Korug notices the remains of several small mountain animals around the
base of the wall. He also notices a hole in the rock overhang above you.

Zobmaggle moves forward to peer into the hole while the others are contemplating what to do. Folium's arcane senses pick up that something is going to happen. A long, almost silken filament shoots down and just misses the goblin. The filament shoots up like a elastic rope when it fails to hit. Looking up a crablike creature is clinging to the side in the hole in the overhang...

Aurum immediately recognizes the filament as belonging to a cave fisher, a creature that has earned it's name by 'fishing' for victims. It prefers to lair in places that are hard to get to...

Times like these it is somewhat easier to play a somewhat comic character. Being clutzy doesn't conflict with the image.

Taking a look up the wall, Kivuli looks for the best path up the wall.
I think there is a path with places for good hand-holding. I will try.

If I can take 10 or 20, I will do so. Upon reaching the top, I will lower down some knotted silken rope for the others. If I have to roll ---> climb: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
If I can do it quietly---> stealth: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33

No take 20, given that failure is bad for you. Climb DC is 15 and remember that you can only move at half speed.

Climb rules

In other words: with that 18 Kivuli is now up 10 feet on the wall and needs another 3 climb checks >= 15 to ascend to the hole in the side of the wall. Any rolls of <=10 mean he falls, taking 1d6 per 10 feet he climbed.

Kivuli looks down and nods in appreciation to Modekai. He then focuses his attention above determined to be successful.
stealth: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (3) + 15 = 18

Making it up to the lip, he looks down into the opening against the wall.

If it looks clear, I will enter the opening and secure the rope for the others.

Folium collects his arrows that missed, and checks which are still usable.

Arrows, broken on 1: 4d2 ⇒ (1, 2, 1, 1) = 5

OK, 5 arrows not recoverable total.

He keeps watch as Kivuli climbs up.

"Hey Boole, get out of that bush, and help me watch the rear!"

The rabbit hops out of his hiding place and sits beside Folium, ears turning to catch any noise of approaching dangers.

With the knotted rope secured by Kivuli you all easily make your way up. Through a short tunnel (with a hole in the ceiling) you make your way to a pathway hugging the side of the mountain.

After another one and a half hour track you follow a narrow path leading up a mountain, hugging a sheer cliff face to one side, while dropping off to the other into what appears to be the remains of a rock slide. Several alcoves have been carved into the cliff face, each containing a small stone shrine—some little more than simple standing stones, others ornately carved lanterns or small houses. The path is well defined, promising easier progress, and is a welcome break from the rough terrain leading up to this point
