Do I pay for a spellbook with my original 7 spells with the 150gp? Or do I get that back for free? As an FYI, if I have to buy it, that would essentially be the book plus one spell (or two cantrips).

Malum the Forsaken |

@ Numair
Maybe I read the contract a little differently but:
The Bound swear that they cleave to and uphold the Four Loyalties even in the face of death and damnation.
The Master swears that as long as the Four Loyalties are upheld, he shall reward the Bound as they deserve for their deeds.
But to me the bolded part means that if the Cardinal attacks us or basically screws us when we are loyal, then he has broken his end of the bargain.
If we uphold the 4 loyalties, he has to REWARD us as we deserve for our deeds. If he decides to stab one/all of us in the back, then he has NOT rewarded loyal followers (aka the Bound).
In the end if we remain loyal, the Cardinal has to continue to support us. If he decides not to support us, then in my view that voids the contract. Of course if we are loyal he shouldn't have a reason not to support us.
Just my 2 cents.

Numair Alazario |

In most cases, I would agree. But when you're talking Asmodeus, "reward ... as they deserve" is open to some interpretation. :-)
And nothing stops him from rewarding us, then sending some mooks against us after that. That's a loophole Numair might use, after all.

Felrin Vennax |

I agree that it would be very nice of our new masters if they could arrange for us to get some gold in exchange for our treasures.
Can a couple of us take 10 to Aid Another on Malum's appraise check? I'll do that, to add +2, and if one more of us does it, we can hit that DC20 we haven't made yet. And I'll cast detect magic on all the items, just in case we missed any of them.
And I'd support acquiring a wand of CLW, if that's an option.
As to gear Felrin would like to buy for himself:
Heavy mace - 12 gp
Chain shirt - 100 gp
A sharp, sharp knife - 2 gp
Iron holy symbol - 5 gp (unless Thorn wants to give me one)
Spell component pouch - 5 gp
Backpack - 2 gp
Belt pouch - 1 gp
Total so far = 127 gp

GM Fyren |

good... goooood... use your aggressive feelings... let the hate flow through you... strike him down with all of your hatred and your journey toward the dark side will be complete... :)

GM Fyren |

Let's hold off on finalizing the shopping lists until we hit that point in the story and the group has finalized how much money they have etc. :) I merely stated that to give you folks a heads up so you can start planning to ensure no unnecessary delays when we get to it.
@Felrin - re. take 10 - yes... plus w/ Izzy's Guidance you should be able to hit 20. I'll finalize the gp number on the ring when the group has some IC time to themselves after the current encounter.

Izabelle Moon |

I like Iz - she's really nice.
Hah, what prompted that reaction?
Argh, I hate going back and finding mistakes in previous posts (or missing words, in this case).
25gp - Studded Leather
07gp - Heavy Wooden Shield
15gp - Scimitar (Cleaver)
03gp - Dart (6)
10gp - Silk Rope
14gp - Druid's Kit
(animal feed (5 days), a backpack, a belt pouch, a blanket, a flint and steel, holly, mistletoe, an iron pot, a mess kit (plate, bowl, cup, fork, knife, and spoon), soap, a spell component pouch, torches (10), trail rations (5 days), and a waterskin)
00gp - Sling
00gp - Club
00gp - Quarterstaff
Total 74
@everyone: If we have some down time, we can just make scrolls of CLW (CL1) for 12.5gp each. Numair can craft scrolls as long as people donate the spells, and three of us can use them. It's about the same price as a wand in the long run (775gp for 50), but we can spread them out amongst people and don't have to pay it all at once.
If not, I'll pick up three CLW scrolls (rounding my total to 149)

Felrin Vennax |

Felrin Vennax wrote:I like Iz - she's really nice.Hah, what prompted that reaction?
Izabelle's bloodthirsty "I will bring this kingdom to its knees," then running her tongue over her teeth. Greatly enjoyed that post, but my timing was off in conveying it - should have excerpted it, to make it clear.
And crafting scrolls sounds like a fine plan to me. We have a lot of CLW casters (4, I think - not sure about Gil), which is nice

GM Fyren |

downtime is only going to be roughly 48 hrs FYI... and you may want to do other things besides spend it holed up in yer room scribing... just sayin'... ;) BUT... to each their own. I have no objections either way.

Numair Alazario |

Per the item creation rules, it would take me two hours to scribe a 1st level spell, but I can still only do one item per day, regardless of time. So I don't mind taking two hours each day to do a scroll.
I'll update with my goods tomorrow; have we come to a total of how much gold we each get? I may want to add a few spells beyond the base 9 I get for free ...

This is the ideal list, ill modify as needed when we get the final number on the loot we sell. Gils got a Longsword, Shortsword and Leather Armor he can pawn off for some gold as well

Numair Alazario |

So, did we make a decision on divvying up everything? My vote is to sell everything that isn't magical, subtract money for two crafting two scrolls and a wand of CLW (775gp) and then split the remainder. What do you guys think?

Numair Alazario |

Total: 149.41 gp
Probably will get a few more spells once we decide on the loot

Felrin Vennax |

I like Numair's plan. If we don't all come to an agreement, what do we do, vote? That's a pretty funny start to decision making for an evil group, but I guess we're lawful evil, so it's not out of the question.

Twigs |

Busy weekend from me. I'll squeeze a signing post this afternoon, but my shopping might have to wait. I'm tempted to just spend his alloted wealth on stolen silverware from the manor, as most of his starting gear was just odds and ends I'd picked up for funsies anyways (such as several live rats and a corset).

Malum the Forsaken |

Not a full list. But a good starting place for the gear Malum will be requesting.
Leather Armor - free from guards - 15 lbs
Crossbow - free from guards - 4 lbs
20 crossbow bolts - 10 free from guards/10 cold iron - 2 lbs, 2gp
Cold Iron Heavy Mace - 8 lbs, 24gp
Iron Holy Symbol of Dispater - 1 lb, 5gp
Masterwork Backpack, 4 lbs, 50gp
Masterwork Manacles, 2 lbs, 50gp
Explorer's Outfit, -, 3gp
(yes, manacles in case we take prisoners... aka slaves! :)
Btw, I was thinking some more about the wand of cure light wounds. Instead I think we should get a Wand of Infernal Healing. It gives Fast Healing 1 for a minute. For downtime healing this would be quite ideal. However since Gil has decided to spend some of his share, I don't think we will have enough for it.
The scrolls of cure light wounds and maybe some of Infernal Healing via Numair should cover us for now. :)
On a side note, for those with caster levels should all take an item crafting feat (assuming we live long enough)?

GM Fyren |

@Numair - you've already rolled on the potion in an attempt to identify it back when you found it. Appraise/Identify rolls only matter once. ;) HOWEVER - if you absolutely want to id it yourself, I'll let you take 20 and ID it but it will use up the potion (experimenting with it, using little bits to test reactions etc.).
@Malum/Felrin - The ring Malum identified looks very expensive but it is in fact a fake. To an unwary soul, its easily worth 150gp but its 'true value' is in fact only about 25gp (hence the two DC checks in this case). So a jeweler for instance would be able to tell its fake... but some poor shmoe off the street might think it's worth a pretty penny.
re. Loot -
Party gold is at 924gp per the loot tracker. This does NOT take into account any figurines, jewelery etc. that the group has (most of it being carried by Twigs) or the masterwork dagger that Gil is carrying.
If you were to divvy up purely the GP - everyone's share would be 154gp. If the group wants to allocate value to the dagger, potions etc. and adjust that person's share accordingly, or to turn other items of value into gp, it'll have to be done via IC posts.
What I would suggest is:
1. Review the Loot Tracker sheet.
2. Columns D, E and F indicate the value and who owns it versus who is carrying it...
3. If you wish to lay claim to an 'item' say a potion or the earrings or what have you... indicate as such. If the rest want that value deducted from the total share of gold then so be it... if the rest are inclined to just let the person have it, that's fine too. Items can also be owned by 'PARTY' in which case, they would belong to everyone but would be carried by the individual listed in column F.
4. Once ownership is confirmed by everyone, I'll move items off the list so they don't clutter things up.
I'd like the sheet cleaned up before your training starts so you can add new things to it... ;)

Giltharon Doran |

Well, Gil would like the dagger and his longsword, shortsword, crossbow and armor all pawned off and added to the pile.
A masterworked dagger would be 151, and the rest about 35
So Gil would have 330-340 gold to buy with after that.
If he can get away with it though he wont hesitate to keep all the gold for his own expensive tastes.
EDIT: Wait, the dagger is listed as worth 320...thats before the half price pawn value right?

Giltharon Doran |

Btw, I don't know if I've mentioned it here, but it has come to my attention that you cannot choose a prestige class as a favoured class. That was originally my plan for the Multi-talented racial trait, and I simply switched it to just be Bard and Fighter.
I've since learned about the alternate racial Drow Magic, which gives a few fun spells.
If its not too much trouble, id rather have that.

Felrin Vennax |

Given how much it costs to get new MW weapons, I usually argue for keeping them in the party if they're useful to someone. And I'm sure Gil would notice how much Twigs admires the shiny silver dagger. Just sayin'.
Aside from that, and the vial (which we could ask Tiadora's help in identifying), I'd say we sell everything and divvy the proceeds. And if Tiadora can get the counterfeit ring sold to someone who will pay the higher price for it, so much the better.

GM Fyren |

Just for the record, the next major part of the AP will start by about the end of the week... so you folks have the next 4-5 days of 'real time' to figure out the loot, the box, any exploration and/or any other business you may wish to take care of. Of course if everyone is ready before then, I'll move things along before that. If all loot isn't divvied up by the time we move on, I'll just assume whoever is carrying it stuck it in the rooms that were assigned to them. :)

Twigs |

Just realized theres another character who Twigs reminds me of, what with the silver stealing.
Haha, love it!
Just to clarify, was that 150gp of loot provided by our benefactor on top of the coin in the loot tracker? I'll do Twigs' shopping ASAP, but I havent had time to sit down with the PRD yet.

GM Fyren |

@Twigs yes - the initial 150gp worth of loot is the freebie since that heartless GM stripped you of everything at the beginning of the game when you were thrown in prison... so if you want 225gp worth of stuff - the initial 150gp is free and 75gp comes out of your share of the coin in the loot tracker.

GM Fyren |

no it's not "LE PACT" hehe...
old... archaic... how's everyone's latin? ;) I usually don't like throwing riddles in games but I was feeling a touch sadistic so feel free to place blame squarely on my shoulders.
5 letters... one word... ends in A
Fun Fact: Did you know that a lot of everyday words have their origin from greek or latin languages...? Latin words love ending with 'A' instead of 'O'. C & K were also quite interchangeable back then.
Getting the right answer won't be enough... you will then need to apply the solution ;)

Felrin Vennax |

I took a lot of Latin, but it was a lot of years ago. A few possibilities:
pelta = shield
clepa = steal, listen secretly (as in kleptomania, maybe, though that sounds Greek to me)
pecta = heart or hearts, maybe souls
lecta = chosen (like "a select few", used to describe a picked band of soldiers, for example)
I'm sure there are other possibilities - I'm inclined to go with the last one on the list, since we represent a chosen few out of the Mitran masses...but I'm probably wrong.

Felrin Vennax |

Arrgh! I was wondering how we'd get the sixth letter out of the way before we pushed the button.
Then I think 'clepta' (which means 'thief') is a good choice, since that's more correct than my guess of 'clepa' - but I haven't thought very hard about six-letter possibilities...
And I don't know why 'thief' is an appropriate word here. Maybe it's how you unlock the box if you're not a thief.

Felrin Vennax |

Fel's decent at such things as well, probably best suited to aid Twigs in the attempt.
For the moment, I say we put the letters in the right order, cross our fingers, and push the button.

GM Fyren |

well on the plus side, I get to be creative all over again when Felrin gets electrocuted upon pushing da button...
www.gog.com is annoying me with their free giveaways that I can't click on because they go so fast... hmpf...

GM Fyren |

......he's not serious right? someone tell me he kidding... it wasn't THAT bad... :(
Nooooo MMMMMMercy... GnoMMME Ercy... Gnome Ercy! The fabulous fighter called gnome Ercy who shows his foes No Mercy... oh for &%@*'s sakes I give up... sigh... guess this means I shouldn't introduce his brother... Gnome Atter... or his distant and rather broke second cousin - Gnome Uhnee...
I was typing out this morning's update when you posted Gil so couldn't incorporate your stuff into it... it'll be in the next one... but regardless, Titus doesn't get riled... he's just a cheery happy fellow and insults roll off of him like water off a duck... the others, on the other hand, might be a different story... ;)

Felrin Vennax |

Yeah, that one was not nearly so, um, subtle, as Fyren's puns tend to be.

GM Fyren |

increasing disbelief Felrin? Do I not throw a good enough dinner party? ;D they are colourful characters I thought... hehe

Felrin Vennax |

Only disbelief because he's a bit surprised that the hand-picked crew of Asmodeus servants consists of such a rag-tag bunch of folks. They are very colorful characters, and it makes it much easier to distinguish amongst them as a player - much better than "the big guy" and "the quiet woman" - they've got some color and contrast to them.
So it's a great thing as a player - but as a character, Fel's not so convinced.

GM Fyren |

ahhh but the character Felrin might be judging books by their covers... who's to say that just because they appear as a 'rag-tag' bunch, they're not highly trained and efficient slicing and dicing machines? ;) Just because Felrin and the group of prisoners are a brooding, sullen, non-trusting bunch doesn't mean the rest of the world is mirrored in the same image.
Hypothetically speaking, if the other folks have known each other for a longer period and bonded over battles and formed friendships with each other, they would obviously have more of a banter amongst them and be more accustomed to each other's quirks...
Besides, speaking of rag-tag... let's do an about face and look at Felrin's group... they see a hoity-toity poofy scowly smirky elf... a polished aristrocratic wizardy looking guy... some wild girl running around barefoot in furs... a tiefling with a tail... some weird looking dude with bony ridges... and a funny lookin' thief in ill-fitting clothes with two missing teeth who's stuffing his pants with stolen silverware... lol... sounds like quite the 'rag-tag' circus to someone outside the group doesn't it? ;)

Felrin Vennax |

To clarify - I was including us in the "rag-tag bunch" - but I like your descriptions of us.

Numair Alazario |

OK, I think we stalled again on the loot. I agree with Felrin's plan. Sell everything except the vial (I actually vote for selling the dagger as well, but can be persuaded otherwise). The vial we will consider "party" treasure until we know what it is. As a CLW wand would take up almost all of the loot, let's hold off for now.
So if we sold off everything but the vial, what would everyone's share be?
Here are a few more spells in the short term I will buy (35gp each for the spell plus scribing costs):
identify, alarm, break, expeditious retreat (140gp total)

Felrin Vennax |

Sounds good, Numair. I can go either way on selling the dagger, I'd say it's up to Twigs to make his case for hanging onto it.
And if we do buy a wand in the near future, I like Malum's suggestion of going with Infernal Healing, for flavor and mechanics - a guaranteed 10 hp per charge is pretty nice, even if it's a bit slower. And Fel won't be able to use it, but that's okay.
