Hi all,
I am going to run a PFS-legal, Play-by-Post game here of Pathfinder Society Scenario Intro 2: First Steps—Part II: To Delve the Dungeon Deep, chosen because I’ve played it as a player and really enjoyed it. It is being retired, but apparently we only need to start it by August 14th and complete it by September 30th, neither of which should be a problem. If my schedule permits, I might be able to also GM a run of First Steps—Part I: In Service to Lore (which isn’t being retired) after we complete Part II. (It doesn’t matter much that they would be played ‘out of order’.)
I would like to recruit five or six players who are preferably 1) new to PbP and/or 2) not in any other PbP games yet, since I know how hard it is sometimes to get into a PbP game, especially before you have some character-making and PbP experience to show. If it isn’t filled in a few days, then it will be open, taking on characters on a first come basis, including those who have already posted.
Full disclosure: I’m also relatively new to GMing, Pathfinder, PFS, and PbP gaming (did I forget anything?), so I would need players who are able to work with me in making this a great game.
For character types, I would say that you should just run a character that you would enjoy playing. It appears that we already have a cleric from my pre-post conversations, so that should help as there are a fair number of encounters. Really, though, these initial games are not that deadly. (Play a cleric or backup healer if you like, though.)
I’ve prepared a short introduction to my game and to various aspects of PFS and PbP gaming on my campaign description page.
Thanks,
Matt/FurtiveZoog

Hi all,
Since there has been only a small response from players (two likely candidates, one a cleric) completely new to PbP Pathfinder play, I'd like to now open this campaign up to all players who would like to give To Delve the Dungeon Deep, especially since I am already running one run of it as a replacement/fill-in GM.
Thanks,
Matt/FurtiveZoog

Hi gamerguy1470,
Good to hear! You might want to check out my page here, where I have tried to put a lot of stuff that would be helpful to first-time PbP and PFS players, including links to official resources.
Thanks,
Matt/GM FurtiveZoog

Hi Jaysin,
It does, as I understand it, have to be all level one characters, since it isn't yet into the Tier 1-2, etc., system.
So, it would probably have to be the oracle character. :-\ The oracle could be especially useful if it is an oracle of life and the cleric doesn't pan out. We'll know more about Monday night, it seems.
Thanks,
Matt

Hello! I'm finishing the details of my first PFS character, it's a Summoner. I'm basically new to the pbp post, but i have applied for a pbp Reing of Winter AP, in which i will probably not get chosen, mainly for the inexperience. Anyway, i would like to play!
I'll post the character details on monday too, cause i don't have time to transfer it from a pdf file, but it is basically ready.

Hi Ralklain,
Good to see you! I hope you get picked up, but the 'inexperience' problem is why I wanted to run this one for people.
So far, we have (unless I am counting twice - those aliases can get confusing):
Pizzmic/gamerguy1470
Barvo
Walter
Ralklain - with a summoner
Narvik Drak - oracle
ratchet19 - cleric (offline)
So, that would be a full group!

Hi all,
A seven person group is legal but controversial - especially when done around a table, where it can be tough for everyone to get time to speak in 4 hours... - but how would people feel about 7 on a dungeon quest in the PbP format?
It might be a bit of a walk-through, but perhaps if I could play the monsters a bit smarter (without "changing the game mechanics") it would still offer enough challenge as an introductory adventure.

Hi Celif,
We have a 7th spot for you, if no one ends up minding there being 7 players. I'll give it a day to see how people feel, but so far it seems like a go. If not for some reason, you can always have it ready to snag the next campaign.
I would say just play what you want to play - This is really more of a first-come basis, hopefully with more people of limited experience. Make up a character and hopefully we'll all be ready to start Monday or Tuesday!

Hi all,
I've put the first post up in the gameplay section, and you can start posting as soon as your character 'arrives' at the party.
If you are working on things, don't worry - this is for impatient people like myself and so you can make your grand entrance ;-). We won't move on until everyone has arrived.
The Gameplay Thread, in case you don't see it.

To clarify we are building these characters with lvl 1 pathfinder society limitations. Are gonna give you our society number? I'm a little noobish with the society rules which ill be looking up tonight. Is there any progtams that ppl use for character creation like hero lab that verifies if your character is legal

GM FurtiveZoog |

Hi Pizzmic,
Yes, they are with lvl 1 PFS limitations.
You get your PFS number yourself, and you can do it online. I think you click on "My Account" at the top of the page, and then on that page there is a box about the Pathfinder Society. Since I have already done it I just see:
Pathfinder Society Edit
Silver CrusadeYou are Pathfinder # 92489.
Download Your Pathfinder Society ID Card
You have 3 characters.
Make Changes.
Let me know if that is where you get your PFS number or not, since I've already done mine and it probably looks different to me than you.
Check out my guide on the "Campaign Info" page: http://paizo.com/campaigns/GMFurtiveZoogsPbPPFSFirstStepsPartIIToDelveTheDu ngeonDeep
It covers a lot of things, like character creation programs, at least briefly. I am not familiar with Hero Lab enough to know whether it verifies PFS-legality. Read/skim the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play (link on my page), and then check out the Additional Resources page (also linked to on my page) about the legality of specific extra things from other sources. Plus, I can try to verify things.

The dice roller is done using text formatting code. Look for the "How to format your text (Show)" button below where you post messages and one of the options is dice.
Basically, it looks like [d ice=Perception]1d20+4+1[/dice], which would come out looking something like:
Perception: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 1 = 25
You can make one and "preview" it and it remembers the roll, so I was able to react to that one by continuing my post:
Norine after the recent unpleasant surprise, is seemingly hyperaware!
You can do two or more rolls, too, like:
[d ice=Spear attack and damage]1d20+2; 1d6+2[/dice]
With the rolls separated by the semicolon.
(You have to correct the spelling of "dice", of course, to make it actually work.)

I am new to pbp. Actually, just started researching it two weeks ago, after picking up the Pathfinder core rules. Long story short: I used to play Basic in the early 80s as a kid. Got a hankering to relearn pen and paper rpgs so that my young son might benefit. Anyway, PF sounds like a great system. This week, I've played around in PCGen with creating a human monk, Crixicus. But that's about it, other than skimming the rule book. If you still have an opening, I'd be interested. Let me know! Thanks!
