Quarr begins to shake even more as he looks ahead. His bomb mixed wrong. It seems to have exploded in his hands. Down below everyone hears a bloodcurdling scream from the gnome as he frantically looks over his entire body.

What have I done...... oh gods what have I done!

Looking down Quarr watches as the skin on his arms and chest begin to melt away from the noxious gas and slowly drip to the ground below.

Looking back with tearful eyes Quarr gives a nod to Thorgrim.

I will give my life if I have to make sure they make it back from here.

Grabbing a Bomb Quarr hurls it at the green swirling nightmare.

Stepping forward he waves a hand at the shades. "Begone!"

Well, at least if you had failed you only would have woken up rather than actually died.

Quarr's explosive shears off parts of the blue shade but only does minimal damage to the rest of the spirit nightmares. Maximo then uses shear force of will to destroy one of the shades outright! Latheas summons his inner dwarf and misses the target completely. Thorgrim makes up for this by completely destroying another shade!

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

The two shades begin to emit a mental static that clutters everyone's minds....

Living creatures within 30 feet must succeed at a DC 13 concentration check to cast a spell with a thought component. Failing this check causes the spell to be lost with no effect. In addition, all spellcasters must attempt this check at the start of their turns if they are concentrating on an active spell or effect. Failure means that they cease concentrating on the spell or effect.

They then try again to tear at the psyches of Niko and Quarr!

Maximo's words inspire courage in his companions as he removes a small quiver and holds it toward Latheas. "Should you run out, I have a half quiver of arrows flavored with a dash of ghost salt! I suggest using the white-fletched ones first."

Inspire courage 1/8 - you all know the bonuses.

Maximo will hold the quiver so that Latheas can grab the arrows and fire them next round.

@Latheas: 4 +1 holy arrows dosed with ghost salt and 6 normal arrows dosed with ghost salt.

Latheas' archery seems quite effective against the giant feargaunt, although Thorgrim's bold charge is less so, especially because it leaves the guardian open to an attack:

And because you are suffering from a fear effect (shaken):

Quarr wings flap, dipping him a little lower as he reaches to grab another bomb as Maximo begins to yell at him. Turning his head Quarr smiles.

Suddenly his bag begins a small tear and three bombs begin to fall out. Quarr's eyes grow wide as he reaches out for them and fumbles all three. His stubby hands slap at the bottles knocking them in all directions.

One bomb each to the east, west and south of Niko. So just splash damage for each of the creatures.

"That's it boy!" Maximo congratulates Latheas, but not on his archery. "Deep down inside I knew you had a sense of humor. Your insults, however, leave something to be desired. I have heard worse things from goblins!"

"Oho! Shelyn does not approve of suffering! Be healed!!"

Dark gray mist, churning like boiling water, seeps from the fissures and forms a shadowy cloud. “Fated, that one. Bound in threads not of her making, impotently thrashing against them and yet—as long as they tug, she dances.” The voice, coarse and ancient, emanates from a feminine silhouette now visible within. Far taller than any human, she shakes her head and sets her wild mane of hair dancing between her jagged horns. “She dances on and on, and there you are—running behind her. But who, they ask, threaded the strings?” The silhouette raises one arm, holding aloft a familiar-looking lantern burning with a cold blue light.

“Introductions now, I suppose. I am Aslynn.” Her tone is heavy with amusement. “I am the weaver, the maker, an inveterate taker. Here I am, dreamers. What now?”

Thorgrim feels more of his mind being bled away as the royal man moves closer and heals some of his wounds, but the cloud over his head seems to stick around.

Thorgrim, healed by Maximo, rages around. "You give Thorgrim information for why he spend weeks looking at dumb books!" he bellows into the mirror, ready to strike it. "Or I will destroy your home!" he bellows, smashing a nearby rock.

"Was that your favorite rock?! Thorgrim smash another!" he yells as he smashes another.

If you have one Charisma, then you are probably pretty dumb as a side effect to also being terrible at discussion or negotiations.

Latheas grumps on the return to the Lodge. He was somewhat happy with the ending of the mission, but can't help but feel he failed at the end. He wanted to identify and note that final 'thing', whatever it was...at least for his own records.

However, that his bosses were pleased was nice, but he didn't feel he done much good overall. Mostly, because f$&$ Aram Zey.

He does, however, offer a farewell to Quarr, Niko, Maximo, and Thorgrim.

"Uh...nice working with you all. I, uh, hope..."...that I never have to spend multiple days with you in a library ever again..."...that your next missions go, uh, 'better'."

Thanks for running, GM Endless!!
