Cretien Dufrene |

Cretien woke up late, as usual, and hurriedly scooped his books and spare papers into their protective box and slipped that into his bag. He ran his hands over his bandolier quickly, ensuring his prototypes were there. Everything it its place, he thought to himself as he habitually grabbed his repeating crossbow. He went up the steps from his workshop to the street level.
"Mechanus, end guard protocol. Load chest onto wagon," Cretien ordered, the mechanomagical device seemingly buzzing to life with new orders. He observed the device's handiwork, making mental notes regarding its response to commands and looking for signs of wear on the device's joints. When it completed the commands, he hopped into the wagon's driver seat. Rather than taking the reins, as most drivers would, he issued another command in an even tone. The mechanus responded by attaching the wagon to itself and moving forward, dragging the wagon as a horse would.
The mechanus appeared to be largely like a thumbless hand approximately the size of a man. However, the "fingers" were actually "legs" and spread from the main part of the creature in a star-like fashion. At each "fingertip" a track of spiked steel plates rotated over gears to provide a faster movement speed. This, coupled with the jointed nature of the "fingers" allowed the creature to glide over terrain significantly more gracefully than its appearance would have suggested. It also had four articulated arms on top and bottom that allowed for manipulation of items.
While Cretien was quite used to the mechanus, having observed it for over a week now, the local populace was noticeably apprehensive. Cretien wondered if the wide berth they gave it and his wagon was because of the device itself, or his own appearance.
Cretien Dufrene looked like most tieflings, save he was considerably more savage looking. He was covered in short, coarse blue fur and sported horns on his head that were larger and more numerous than many of his race. Furthermore, his mouth was lined with teeth that were considerably sharper and longer than his brethren, and the bottom row often protruded thanks to a significant underbite. Even more unique were his stunted wings, which although small, were covered in well-kept feathers ranging from black to violet to dark blue. In contrast to his extremely bestial appearance, Cretien prefered to dress in finer clothes to help put people at ease, and spoke with a soft, even tone.
Let them stare, he mused. They haven't yet come to appreciate the fruits of the labors of their intellectual superiors. One day they will come in throngs to see my creations. Content with the knowledge that his students at Pardwight University were self-motivated enough to gainfully employ themselves in his absence, Cretien decided to swing by the place where he usually contacted his RHC superior.

Having arisen early, as usual, Aggie washed her face, roughly brushed her hair back into some semblance of tidiness, and donned her old police uniform. <I suppose I should invest in some plain clothes now. But damned if I'm showing up on the first day in mufti.> Throwing the bandolier laden with powder flasks, tools and pistols over her shoulder, Aggie paused to briefly inspect herself in the small, cracked mirror atop the mantelpiece in her small apartment.
The face staring out of the silvered glass was a serviceable, if unremarkable amalgamation of ruddy, freckled skin, a rounded nose, still crooked from being broken in numerous scuffles with miscreants, and startling sky-blue eyes, unusual for a dwarf. This whole assembly was framed by strands of coarse, red-blonde hair falling to either cheek, having escaped being tied back in Aggie's customary pony-tail. Not a beautiful visage, but it did the job, and she was comfortable with it after long familiarity.
Nodding at the reflection, Aggie took her cap from the hook by the mantelpiece, settling atop her head. Stepping over to the door of her apartment and opening it, she paused only to pick up the ornately inscribed warhammer sitting in the umbrella stand, tucking it safely into her belt, before stepping through the doorway and locking it securely behind her. Out on the landing, even this early in the morning, she could hear the clatter of wheels, hooves and feet on the cobbles of the street three flights of stairs below her.
<Well, time to report for duty. Get your war face on girl.> Trundling down the stairs, she thought about where to get a coffee and a pastry for breakfast en route to RHC headquarters...
I realize this isn't the Gameplay thread, but I was following Cretien's lead, and this seems as good a way of saying "Hi everyone! Let's get this started." as any. :)

Merle Adaire |

Merle arose at daybreak like he always had. He sat up in his meager cot, and let his legs adjust to the floor before finishing the act of arising. He stretched as he rose, and listened as the cartilage in his back and legs popped themselves into place.
Man I'm getting old. That didn't used to take so long or hurt so much.
He finally made his way to the chipped bowl and picture full of lukewarm water, and splashed it on his face, and in his thick hair to finish his morning ritual. He gazed at the reflection in the tarnished metal plate which served as a mirror...He could wait another day before getting shaved.
He then spent the next 10 minutes stretching, and performing his forms with a weighted stick he kept by his bed side for that purpose. Then finished dressing, rubbed his new uniform and appreciating it's stiffness and fresh smell.
With a final crack of his neck he stepped into the woodsmoke scented fog of the morning, and let a all to infrequent smile cross his face. A new day indeed.

As of the current time, Sagosmer does not appear to have anything on her profile page, making it difficult to add any flavor to IG posts involving her, without having to go back all the way to the recruitment thread. Would it be presumptuous to assume that this oversight will be corrected soon?

Sagosmer |

In general, I would say yes, making assumptions about what a person will do on limited acquaintance is generally presumptuous.
If I am correct in divining a suggestion underlying that assumptuous presumption, however, it is received in the spirit it was intended.

with a diplomacy roll like that, i imagine Cretien said something more like "hey b****, get yo stank a** over here before i slap you"

Agfritha Durinsdottir |

Just to let you know, I probably won't be able to post for the next 36 to 48 hours. I have to go to hospital tomorrow for some minor surgery, and although I should be in and out within the day, I'll be on painkillers for the next few days and likely a little dopey from anesthetic. So please NPC Aggie's actions as necessary until I post again. Sorry for the short notice.

GMEDWIN |

Hi, Is everyone still with me? I haven't heard from Sagosmer in a few weeks. I added some information about two of the key NPCs in the Campaign info section of the Pbp.
Now, feel free to ask Delft or Lee any questions about the Coaltongue or threats or anything... Please keep up the RP... I do apologize for my lack of Wifi the past few days. The cottage where I was staying said they had wifi but it didn't work at all. Sorry, once again...

Tenro |

checked the campaign info you added.
i am assuming Cretien knows the best mage in town, having worked at the university.
at least knows him by appearance, i mean, not actually hangs out with him. i figure Lee probably knows of Cretien as well as he is a foreigner and i imagine that would ring some bells for those who keep an eye out for such things.

Tenro |

i ran into the same trouble (only worse) using maptools. even in non-game things, people tend to be more flaky when we are all relatively anonymous.
but hey, real life things get in the way. i tend to feel bad if i dont check after i wake up but before i go to work, because it has then been like 16 hrs between checking hahaha

GMEDWIN |

I have decided to add 2 new players and maybe a third but I can add the two now and in a bit a third if I feel it would work. Both Sagosmer and Aggie have gone AWOL and havent responded to my messaging them so it seems that it would make sense to keep it going with some more players.

Cretien Dufrene |

i messaged a friend of mine about this game when you first started recruitment again
