Nátulcien Ar-Feiniel |
Nat goes first! Eagle appears at L18.
Nat completes her spell as with a burst of light, leaves, and feathers, an eagle appears out of thin air on the other side of the wolf from Angus.

Guessing that's a miss, hit, hit.
damage: 1d4 ⇒ 41d4 ⇒ 3
The eagle tears into the giant wolf's fur, screeching angrily.
At the same time, Nat swings her spear into position and steps forward, striking out at the wolf. 5-ft step to N22, wield longspear as move action, attack!

Darian D'Tanquil |
Darian keeps occupying his wolves attention, again jabbing at the one he wounded before.
[b]"Perhaps a tasteful collar for a cloak? Or maybe an accent on the boots and gloves?" he muses aloud.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 1 = 22
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Angus the Tenderizer |
Angus welcomes the healing energy as it flows into him, as little as it might be, ”Yer gonna regret chompin me puppy” he growls as he goes for an overhand chop to the direwolfs head, followed by a swift kick to the throat.

Yasmin |
Yasmin takes a step back and then casts a color spray at the two smaller wolves, infusing the spell with her inner power.

Giovanni Cicero BrokenCrown |

Giovanni moves--the long way around--to J24 (avoiding AoO).
He pulls his rapier out as he does so just in time to stab at the wolf.

Wolf #2 Will Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
As Darian slips his blade again into the small wolf's flesh, Yasmin's spell overwhelms the two creatures!
They are unconscious, blinded, and stunned for 2d4 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8 rounds, then blinded and stunned for 1d4 ⇒ 3 round, then stunned for 1 round.
The rest of the team wails on the large wolf.
The eagles deals 7 damage, Nat does 2, Angus slams a meaty hand right into the beat's eye for 6 damage, and Gio slips around and stings the creature with his rapier for 2 more!
The massive beast snaps its jaws at the eagle!
Bite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
But no luck for wolfie!
Party is up! Wolf has taken 17 damage.
Nátulcien Ar-Feiniel |
Eagle first! Eagle will 5ft fly south one spot, to M18, which will flank with Nat at N22, and if Angus and Gio move to N and M 21, they will be flanking as well.
Talon,Talon,Bite: 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 241d20 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 261d20 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 12

damage if that confirms: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Now Nat!
The wild halfling stabs with her spear again, angry at the huge creature.
Longspear: 1d20 + 3 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 3 + 2 + 1 = 18
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Nat drops her spear and pulls out her sling in case the wolf tries to flee (unless it's already dead).
Angus the Tenderizer |
Angus senses the little shaman's intent, and slides to the side to allow Giovanni to move into a tactical location. Then, once he does, lets loose a quick one/two set of punches.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 2 + 1 = 231d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 2 + 1 = 231d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Darian D'Tanquil |
Darian abandons the two smaller, unconscious wolves to move and attack the larger wolf also.
Move to fit in where I can to attack the large wolf.

GM Derek W |
Nat's eagle, and her spear bite the large wolf's flesh, but Angus deliver the killing blow, a bone-crunching combination that caves in the beast's skull and sends it to the ground, life fleeing from its body...
Now, what to do with the unconscious wolves?
Giovanni Cicero BrokenCrown |
Giovanni smartly steps to the side--across from Angus--as he dips his rapier into the pool!
rapier: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 2 = 191d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
crit chance rapier: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 5 + 2 = 171d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Hooray!
GM Derek W |
Giovanni slips his rapier between the ribs of each prone wolf, putting them down permanently.
With the wolves slain, the group decides what to do next. Investigating the cave proves fruitless, and some sort of magical barrier "pushes" you away as you near the entrance.
Sorry it's a bit railroady, but you really need to wait to explore that cave. The barrier effect does dissipate after a time.
Nátulcien Ar-Feiniel |
Can we have a run-down of the other quest-hooks we've encountered? I think the noble lady was asking us to take care of the kobolds or something?
Nat takes out her mess kit knife and cuts off the left ear of each of the wolves. "I don't recall if there were a bounty in town, but worth seeing about it, eh?"
If the team wishes to stop, Nat will spend the evening skinning the wolves in order that their hides may be properly tanned. "I recollect a furrier in town, would probably tan these for us if you want 'em, otherwise he'll probably buy them."
The wolf carcasses, though a bit gamey and tough, could be roasted for a meal that would feed even Angus.
Survival to skin the wolves: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
GM Derek W |
Yes, so there is a hefty bounty on these wolves of 800 GP. And the only other quest so far is to get the kobolds to leave their den in the old quarry.
Angus the Tenderizer |
”Fine wit me!” grumbles the dwarf, still feeling some of the nasty bites he received, ”Anyone thinkin I might be getting Rabies, er some other disease? If’n ye think we should turn’m in ta town, I’m fine wit that. Biggun’d make a nice cloak though.”
I’m fine with turning in the wolves for the reward and heading out for the Kobolds
Yasmin |
Yasmin yawns "Let's call it a day, I would not mind spending the night at the inn and listening to Giovanni play. After we have rested and I have prepared my spells we can sort out this kobold mess."
GM Derek W |
The party makes its way back to the ranch, pelts in tow. The farmer and his hands are delighted at your success, and he gladly turns over the full reward of 800 GP.
Afterwards, you make your way to the inn. There is a small crowd in there tonight, and your entrance causes quite a stir among the locals. Word of your deeds in the Witch Tower are all over town by now, and rumors of your wolf hunt have already started to spread. Darian and Giovanni are especially admired by the young ladies in the common room this evening.
Sorry, not enough non-humans in town for the others to have gained many admirers...yet.
Belhaim: Population 388 (377 humans, 1 elf, 3 half-elves, 5 half-orcs,
1 halfling, 1 gnome) And the gnome's a 400 year old lady.
Angus the Tenderizer |
As long as the food and ale continue to come, Angus is content with the attention he receives. Depending on how hairy and meaty the lasses Giovanni is trying to make swoon are, Angus may even try and suppress his belches.
And I’ll leave it up to your imagination if “hairy and meaty” is a good or bad thing in Gio’s possible lady friends… ;D
GM Derek W |
The party continues into the night, with Giovanni winning over fans in droves. Angus even finds a few stout lasses to his liking, though it's not clear he meets their expectations...
Yasmin is quite chatty, and quickly learns that the town's oldest resident is another gnome named Bassy, and ancient woman who travelled far and wide in her youth. The other more exotic residents include a halfling who works at the town Record Hall Feel free to name him/her and the elf Emarthine Willoway, the owner of Willoway Orchard.
Nátulcien Ar-Feiniel |
Nat will visit Willoway Orchard first, as she feels more kinship with an elf who works with trees than a halfling who works with records. When she goes there, she will greet Emarthine Willoway in elvish and, preferentially, conduct the entire conversation in that tongue.
Angus the Tenderizer |
Angus was just trying to play "wingman" to Gio, and get him to hookup with a dwarvaneque lady, lol. He has no interest in human females, regardless of appearance.
Angus will excuse himself for the night once Giovanni has enough doe eyed lasses to occupy him the rest of the evening, and get a good night sleep before the group tackles the Kobolds in the morning. He does check with Nat to see if the little shaman's spirits have anything that might fortify his body, but stoicly accepts it if she doesn't.
Still down 10 HP, didn't know if there were still some CLW available before spells refreshed. REady to go on the next day whenever you are Derek.
Yasmin |
I will pay Bassy a visit tomorrow, after we have dealt with these kobold pests
Yasmin enjoys the evening, dancing a bit and annoying Angus when and if she can.
Angus, Yasmin can cast an infernal healing if you want, 10 hp with an ever so slight feeling of vermin crawling over you and down your throat for a minute...
Giovanni Cicero BrokenCrown |
Giovanni does have some cure ability too. Sorry!
Giovanni plays throughout the early morning. He seemingly plays for every young woman that approaches.
He makes it seems as if they were the first and only each time!
do we have gold or xp that I have missed?
GM Derek W |
Right on the XP. I'll keep you at the proper level for each segment. You'll typically level after clearing a dungeon, accomplishing a big task, etc. I'll try to get the map up tonight or tomorrow. Next one will last us a while though! And I haven't forgotten about your trip to the orchard...
GM Derek W |
Ms. Willoway seems pleased to meet Natulcien.
"It is a pleasure to meet another person so attuned to the natural world. I find such a great solace among my trees. They are quite different than those that grow in the wild, don't you think? Yet, each is beautiful in its own way. I find the same to be true in the animal kingdom. Domestication changes them, but I would hesitate to say that it diminishes them. Some of my kin would disagree, saying that domestication of any kind is akin to slavery. So I now live here among the humans, where I can enjoy all things that grow without bias."
This conversation can continue in flex time. (just put it in spoilers, and I'll respond the best I can. I only have a name, level, and alignment for this character, so I'm ad-libbing here)
The party sets out at dawn for the kobold den. The now-abandoned quarry lies just a quarter mile beyond the ruins of the Witch Tower. The team sees the sheer walls of the quarry in the distance. It looks like several caverns and holes are present.
Please roll perception checks, and stealth too if you want to be sneaky!

In the distance, Giovanni and Natulcien hear a small stone skipping along the quarry floor. They an make out the shapes of at least two kobolds, standing guard near two of the dark openings in the cliff face. The shadows could be hiding others, and they'd have to get closer to see...
GM Derek W |
Nah, more like one of them stumbled badly. They haven't spotted you JUST yet.
Giovanni Cicero BrokenCrown |
Giovanni bows gallantly to the Ladies as his hands reach into a pouch at his belt.
He blows some sand into the direction of the Kobolds, incanting a sing-song verse.

DESCRIPTION
A sleep spell causes a magical slumber to come upon 4 HD of creatures. Creatures with the fewest HD are affected first. Among creatures with equal HD, those who are closest to the spell's point of origin are affected first. HD that are not sufficient to affect a creature are wasted. Sleeping creatures are helpless. Slapping or wounding awakens an affected creature, but normal noise does not. Awakening a creature is a standard action (an application of the aid another action). Sleep does not target unconscious creatures, constructs, or undead creatures.
Angus the Tenderizer |
Angus seems a bit more at ease here in the quarry, the familiarity of unworked stone softening his gruff nature. "What ye?" he asks, having not seen anything in the distance, and when Yasmin menions kobolds, he assumes a fighting stance, wary of any ambushes.
GM Derek W |
What Giovanni remembers about kobolds:
While they may speak loudly of divine right and manifest destiny, kobolds are keenly aware of their own weakness. Cowards and schemers, they never fight fair if they can help it, instead setting up ambushes and double-crosses, holing up in their warrens behind countless crude but ingenious traps, or rolling over the enemy in vast, yipping hordes.
Kobold coloration varies even among siblings from the same egg clutch, ranging through the colors of the chromatic dragons, with red being the most common but white, green, blue, and black kobolds not unheard of.
Gio advances on the sentries, trying to get close enough for his spell.

The kobolds race toward the party (run straight at you, covering about 100'), brandishing their spears!
Group is up!
Nátulcien Ar-Feiniel |
Nat pulls out her sling as she moves forward, loading it swiftly and swinging it around, sending a bullet flying through the air towards the nearest kobold.
