Natulcien can't find anything left in the mess of jumbled parts. Gio looks at the key and recognizes the spell holding it in place as a permanent unseen servant. He's not sure what it's there for, although there is a keyhole in the back of the wrecked robot.
Giovanni Cicero BrokenCrown |
Giovanni bows to the unseen servant--watching where its face should be for any flicker of expression.
Not seeing anything warning him of danger, he plucks the key out of its 'hand'.
He then fits it into the keyhole in the wrecked robot.
Yasmin |
Yasmin moves over to Angus
"Hold still, so I can cure you of your wound."
She retrieves a tiny vial from her belt pouch and opens it. Steam seems to come out. She puts her finger over the vial and turns it upside down and back again. On top of her finger rests a perfect drop of smoky, rusty, dark fluid. After stoppering the vial and putting it back in her pouch she makes some arcane gestures, mumbles something and then thrusts the moist finger at Angus' wounds.
"It will feel disgusting for a while, but the nasty feeling will also lessen your wounds"

When you're ready to move on.
The group enters the passage that the clockwork man had been guarding. They reach a heavy iron door. Giovanni checks it thoroughly and finds no traps, but it is locked.
GM Derek W |
You guys have a "key", but with these roll, who needs it?
Giovanni tinkers at the lock, and the door srpings open!
He leads the way into the next room.
An area along the south wall is enclosed in a cage of thick iron bars that extend from floor to ceiling. Within the enclosure sit seven black iron chests. To the north, the stone wall has collapsed, revealing a rough-hewn tunnel.
Nat: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

Darian: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Gio, Nat, and Darian notice a shambling creature with long, sharp teeth and pallid flesh moving towards them from the collapsed part of the wall!
Surprise Round;

Natulcien: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Ghoul: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Nátulcien Ar-Feiniel |
Nat moves a step closer, beside Angus, and sets her longspear to attack if it charges. Move to square north of Angus, braced to receive a charge.

Nátulcien Ar-Feiniel |
Guess I should put an attack roll out there.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Damage if that hits and the ghoul was charging: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 2) + 2 = 5
-Posted with Wayfinder
Darian D'Tanquil |
Darian also steps forward, holding his rapier ready to attack if the foe come within reach.
5' step to -1,-F, in front of Giovanti.
Attack if it comes within reach: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
GM Derek W |
The creature moves ahead slowly, not seeming able to really charge. Nat's spear seems to get stopped by tis surprisingly tough flesh.
Darian stabs it with his rapier, and it hisses in pain.
It then tries to bite the swordsman!
Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
The thing's teeth clamp down on Darian's shoulder, but do not penetrate his armor!

Angus the Tenderizer |
Stepping to the northwest, Angus tries to the old one two. He feigns for a face shot with his left before driving his meaty fist into the creatures ribcage.

GM Derek W |
The strange creature bites and claws at Darian!

Claw 1: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Claw 2: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
The creature is completely stymied by Darian's defenses!
Group is up.
Yasmin |
Yasmin loads her crossbow and takes a step forward. "Darian, one step to your left please, so I can get a clear shot at the thing!".
She waits, hoping that Darian complies and shoots when she is able to get a clear shot.
5ft step to -E0, Readied action to shoot when Yasmin does not suffer the -4 for cover

Crit Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
2 shots, 2 19's!
Darian D'Tanquil |
Darian again moves to the side, flanking the creature between himself and Angus. Again he tries to score a hit with his rapier.
5' step to -3, -f. I think that is flanking with Angus (or where I think he moved to).
Attack: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 + 2 = 24
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Confirm Crit: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 2 = 7
Crit Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
GM Derek W |
The group's tactics are well-thought-out, but darian's expert slice makes them moot. The creature collaspes as he draws his rapier out of its rotting flesh!
Combat over, and no ghoul fever!
The group looks carefully around the room. They can find no way to move the bars blocking the chests. There are no hidden levers or switches anywhere. There are, however, two slits in the floor, one on each side of the room. Giovanni notices that they appear to be the same size and shape of the mithral daggers the teams found earlier.
GM Derek W |
[ooc[We'll assume that Angus goes along.[/ooc]
Yasmin and Angus put their daggers into the slots in the floor and turn them simultaneously. With that, the bars blocking the chests lower into the floor!
Yasmin |
Oh Giovanni, a bit more daring do would suit you. Wasn't it obvious that these daggers would open the bars? I will defer to your knowledge of locks and other devices with the chests though.
Yasmin goes over to the chests and looks at them carefully, attuning herself to see magic with a minor spell.
Detect Magic

Giovanni Cicero BrokenCrown |
Giovanni bows to Yasmin, sweeping his feathered hat out wide.
Milady, I will bow to your daring and initiative.
He then saunters over toward the chest, wiggling his fingers as he looks them over.
detect magic
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
hmmm...I don't suppose we could add them together?...lol
Angus the Tenderizer |
Angus grunts at the banter between the two as they analyze the chest. He'll never understand why people build so many things into their own basements. Who would want to live in a tower that has Imps, acid pools, clockwork beasties, and undead in it.
GM Derek W |
After checking the chests, the group finds they are not magical and are locked, but not trapped. Giovanni applies his skill with locks, and one by one, the chests are opened.
The chests contain the following treasure: 18,500 cp, 4,000 sp, 115 gp, 14 pp, and a teak case containing 30 gems. You determine that the gems and case are worth a grand total of 800 gp. Total value: 1,640 GP!
Angus the Tenderizer |
Angus glares as he watchs the others view of him shift to that of a pack horse and then back to a dwarf. Grumbling, he begins hoisting the chests so he can lug them along.
Yasmin |
"Do not worry Angus, I think I am able to manage that tiny wooden case with the gems." Yasmin says with a big grin on her face as she retrieves the silver daggers after Angus has been loaded.
"It still puzzles me what the purpose is of all this, where did those goblins come from and what is their goal?"
Yasmin |
Thanks!
Yasmin points to the tunnel "Oh eminent Giovanni, please lead the way down there, your skill at avoiding traps is most surely necessary down there..
Darian D'Tanquil |
"Yes, let us get to the bottom of this most puzzling problem," Darian agrees. "And Angus, you can leave the heavy load of loot here, and we can reclaim it as we leave. That way we do not waste your great strength just for carrying loads, but use it to smite our foes."
Giovanni Cicero BrokenCrown |
Giovanni frowns a bit at the mention of leaving the goods, although I suppose it is necessary, he muses.
He then assists Yasmin in securing the small chest filled with gems.
Dear Yasmin, you are both fair and wise!
Giovanni then bows to her as he takes the lead, peering around with his detect magic up.
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
GM Derek W |
Giovanni moves into the tunnel. He sees that a pair of low barricades made of timbers and rocks partially block the passageway, which opens into a larger cave beyond.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Just as he is about to climb over the logs, he notices something amiss. There are a few strings and wires set to make the whole thing collapse under anyone trying to climb on them!
GM Derek W |
Giovanni can tell that his efforts were not completely successful.
My reading of the rules says that on a failure of 4 or less, you may try again. Failure by 5 or more means you'll trigger the trap. I rolled again for you but missed. If you're getting nailed by a trap I want it to be on your roll, so go ahead!
