Reavis Smoot |
Dotting, will need probably a couple of days to level due to upcoming holidays. I also dotted the gameplay thread, but deleted it. It's still shows up on my campaign thread and the character still shows up as active.
nightdeath |
Greetings. Is everybody here playing Pregen?
Since this is low Tier, I might have a couple of Characters ready to play.
The Man Behind the Curtain |
Nightdeath and Viper, what class/level are your characters?
Karg - Summoner (Unchained) 4
Redelia (Enora) - Arcanist 4
Vash - Hunter 4
Reavis - Alchemist (Grenadier) 5
Nightdeath - ?
Viper Brother - Ranger (Beastmaster) ?
APL without adding the remaining 2 players is 4.24 putting in tier 3-4. I'm preparing for low subtier with no scaling. As long as nightdeath and viper both fall into that range we're good to go.
Given the group is rather large (including pets) I plan to roll most perception checks on behalf of the party in many situations. Please make sure your perception and initiative scores and all pertinent circumstantial bonuses are up to date both for your character and for your pets.
Vash: I did notice that you and your pet have the lookout feat and I'll make sure to use that.
Redelia: Don't worry too much about getting your character sheet uploaded. Since you're an the iconic arcanist, I made sure that a pdf of her pregen is in my google drive.
The Man Behind the Curtain |
Another note for Vash. I noticed that you are trained for mounted combat and equipped as such. Would you do me a favor and put a tag under your character name that notes when you are mounted? That way when I arrange the party when you inevitably get ambushed by the Tarrasque I can determine if it takes 1 chomp or 2. I mean, so I can more easily arrange the party on the map when necessary.

This then will be my character aka nightdeath.
I'm a Dwarven Cleric(Forge Priest) 1/ Ranger 2
The Man Behind the Curtain |
Final party:
76925-9: Lars Boulderstep (3) of the Exchange
184425-TBD: Enora (4) of the Grand Lodge
2104-9: Karg Once-Bound (4) of Liberty's Edge
60133-9: Reavis Smoot (5) of the Dark Archive
Vash Swiftfeet (4) of the Grand Lodge
Viper Brother (5) of the Sovereign Court
APL = 4.167, lower subtier
Character sheets seem to be in good order pending Reavis's level up. Can I get PFS numbers for Vash and Viper?
Lars Boulderstep |
Weapon and Shield. I placed it beside the entry for Combat Style.
The Man Behind the Curtain |
For this encounter I pseudo-randomized the party's order, somewhat basing it on perception and action descriptions from earlier. If you wouldn't mind giving me a suggested marching order I'll use that for situations with more obvious danger.
Also, for players with pets, if you give your pets actions with your player actions I'll do my best to have them execute those actions intelligently.
Lars Boulderstep |
Roger that.
The Man Behind the Curtain |
Since this is my first time running a PbP (and only my 2nd time being involved with one at all) if you guys have any feedback on things you'd like me to be doing or like me to stop doing please let me know. I've been making it a habit of rolling passive checks like knowledge/sense motive/perception checks for things that you automatically get a roll for in the interest of spending more of our time in descriptive posts and less of it in 'please roll xyz' but if you guys feel that I'm taking too much control away from you guys or preventing you from using any character abilities I may not have noticed PLEASE interject.
I've also been using a very rough rule of giving everyone about 24 hours to respond to any posts before moving on with NPC responses, but if life happens and you had a burning question, feel free to ask anyways or PM me if you're unsure. My 24 hour guideline isn't a rule as much as it is a way for me to try to keep the dialogue moving, and flashbacks are still dialogue.
One thing I've noticed during skill checks while playing is that using Aid Another is a pain since player to player discussion takes days over PbP. As such if anyone wants to declare that in general they will try to aid on certain checks, post here in the discussion. When you make the checks in the scenario, instead of stating that you aid another I'll check the situation to see if it is possible, and if so, I'll treat your roll as an aid roll. If you want to declare anything post here with something like: "If Enora uses Diplomacy, Lars will aid if possible" or "If anyone uses perception to search for traps, Shear will aid."
Reavis Smoot |
You're doing a fine job, rolling those things for PC's is typically what GM's do to move thing along faster. I generally show the rolls I make for PC's since they will know what they rolled in face to face games, but the spoiler screens make the gameplay thread less clunky.
The 24 hour guideline is good, but I generally give PC's longer if failure to respond will result in something negative.
I generally just allow PC's to aid even after the primary roll is made just to avoid the coordination problems you get from PbP, although they way you're suggesting is certainly a fine way of doing it.
The Man Behind the Curtain |
Oh, feel free to read the die roll spoilers, I honestly only put them in spoiler tags because filling a screen with die rolls just seems like an eyesore. If I don't want to you to read something I'll probably just not specify what the roll was for. As for aid another, if anyone uses Aid after the fact I'm fine with that too, but I just figured if you want to post in the discussion certain actions that you always aid on I can take that into account when a barrage of posts comes in.
Reavis Smoot |
Sounds good, just assume Reavis tries to aid on all social skills, but never takes primary unless circumstances warrant it.
Karg Once-Bound |
You can also assume Karg or Shear will aid in any skill check anyone wants.
Karg would view it as a favor he and would expect the favor be returned.
Shear will aid without question, views it as an obligation and duty without necessary quid pro quo.
Lars Boulderstep |
Lars will not aid in any Diplomatic , Bluff or Intimidate rolls.
He would be fine to aid in other rolls, he's just not very good at talking to people.
Lars Boulderstep |
lol you're both right.
I didn't actually look through the rest to compare Diplomactic skills.
Karg Once-Bound |
I'm fine with that. Also feel free to make any saving throws you want for me as well.
Here are their current attacks, with current modifiers on this round (Shear slowed but buffed by magic fang, both blessed)
Karg:
falchion +9 to hit (2d4+5, 18-20/x2)
Shear:
claw +5 to hit (1d4+5)
Lars Boulderstep |
If it makes the game smoother yes, by all means.

In terms of whether to use a level 1 or level 3 chronicle, I'm not sure. Can someone explain the implications of this?
