Angrboda Fossey |
Waiting to see if Watergreen's overtures work.
[dice=charm animals, DC 16, Place Magic]2d4+4[/dice]
Jeb Barlo |
"Well, if that's the way it's gonna be. I reckon that's the way it's gonna be." Jeb remarks. He circles around the pool and punches the air in front of him. A blast of water flies from his fist at the vanara in the tree.
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 1 = 24
Magic Bludgeoning Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 3 + 1 = 9
"If ya'll wanna high-tail it outta here, now's your chance." he tells the vanara.
The Man Behind the Curtain |
Watergreen's entreaties seem to have little effect. It seems as though the tiny creatures are quite loyal to the vanara, and also have absolutely no fear of death.
Angrboda's CL vs SR: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 Pass
As Angrboda quickly finds out, they also are much to intelligent to be placated in the same way that normal animals can. They also have some protection against magic, but none too difficult to overcome.
Jeb fires a blast of water up at the vanara, and despite the strange winds (giving a -2 penalty to the attack, which still hits) it batters him against the tree. The 'hounds' rush down to intervene... the first runs straight up to the kineticst and attempts to climb his leg as it whips with it's spined tail.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 Succeed
Tail Slap: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 Miss
The second rushes the lady who tried to cloud its mind with magic.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 Succeed
Tail Slap: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Damage: 1d3 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Round 4:
Jeb
Korad
Angrboda (-5)
Watergreen
Flavias
The Hounds
Fuzzzzzy
Daisag (-9)
Angrboda Fossey |
Note that my CL check should actually have been +4, having the power of Menhir magic.
Eniac, Slug Savant |
Eniac advances on the nasty little varmint sticking to Angrboda...
*SKR-UMPF!*
...and gives it a good, hard lick from behind with its vicious radula!
tongue, flank vs the Yellow Fellow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
damage, plus 1 acid: 1d4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 1 = 7
The Man Behind the Curtain |
The 'Hound' is in Angrboda's square, so she does not provide flanking. In fact to the contrary she provides cover against Eniac's attack.
Eniac attempts to defend Angrboda, but the obnoxious spined creature is too agile for the slug to hit.
Round 4:
Jeb
Korad
Angrboda (-5)
Watergreen
Flavias
The Hounds
Eniac
Fuzzzzzy
Daisag (-9)
Fuzzzy |
Fuzzzy puts his hands on his hips. "Goodness! What's going on?" He feels something on his belt. He looks. It's a sword! He draws his sword and looks at it. "What lovely sword! I must be fierce warrior!"
Fuzzzy wanders around the fight until he can see the monkey man. (I marked it so you can see where I moved cause it might have been confusing.) Then he hurls his sword at the monkey.
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 1 - 2 = 6
Slashing Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 1 = 6
But his sword strikes the tree! A moment later it pulls itself out of the tree trunk and flies right back to Fuzzzy's hand. He smiles in delight.
"What a lovely sword!"
Then he smiles at the vanara. "You're very nimble! Nice dodging!"
Move. Hand of the apprentice.
The Man Behind the Curtain |
The Vanara draws back his bow and fires a single shot at Fuzzzy in return. He seems to completely comprehend the strange winds and allows the arrow to twirl in the breeze.
Attack, Deadly Aim, Point Blank: 1d20 + 6 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 6 - 1 + 1 = 10
While the winds cause little issue his clear underestimation of the elderly man's reflexes cause him to miss the shot.
???: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Round 5:
Jeb
Korad
Angrboda (-5)
Watergreen
Flavias
The Hounds
Eniac
Fuzzzzzzy
Daisag (-9)
For the purpose of pace, everyone can post their action, I'll resolve the hounds actions before resolving Eniac and Fuzzzy's actions.
Jeb Barlo |
"Whoa now!" Jeb steps back from the spiky creature and gives it a blast of water. 5 ft step
Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 = 8
Angrboda Fossey |
Angrboda draws her scimitar and takes a slash at the stubborn little thorn in her side...
masterwork scimitar: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Eniac, Slug Savant |
...and Eniac likewise continues attempting to scrape it off.
tongue vs the Yellow Fellow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 - whatever penalties
damage, plus 1 acid: 1d4 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 1 = 6
It looks down and decides it would rather eat some nice snow instead.
Korad the Avalanche |
"I cannot help but appreciate the vigor with which you fight. Still I can't let you bring harm to my allies. I understand you do not have best of feeling for the gnome, but that might not be leading you to the best decisions. Maybe if you tell us more?"
Korad tries to calmly address and negotiate in a calm friendly matter as he moves to knock out one of the hounds.
Move, and attack Red Hound.
Unarmed Strike Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Non-lethal Bludgeoning Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
The Man Behind the Curtain |
Leaping into action, Jeb, Korad, Angrboda, and Eniac all unleash a flurry of attacks attempting to drive off the... strange creatures that the Vanara referred to as hounds. They however, are much smaller than your average hound, more nimble as well, and rather than actually striking any of them, the party merely sprays them with frost from the ground nearby.
Flavias marches forward, making his presence wordlessly known as Korad continues his entreaties. The Vanara seems to be rather caught up in the moment and either doesn't hear the Oread, doesn't believe the Oread, or simply doesn't really care one way or the other and continues to aim his bow for another shot.
Round 5:
Jeb
Korad
Angrboda (-5)
Watergreen
Flavias
The Hounds
Eniac
Fuzzzzzzy
Daisag (-9)
Fuzzzy |
Fuzzzy smiles at the vanara. "Try to dodge it again!"
He throws his sword at the monkey man!
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 1 - 2 = 25
Slashing Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 1 = 6
Confirming a Critical: Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 6 + 1 - 2 = 19
Extra Slashing Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 = 5
But this time he does NOT dodge Fuzzzy's sword. As the blade flies back into his hand Fuzzzy grins. "Better luck next time!"
Watergreen |
Watergreen takes a step towards the vanara, pulls out a dart and throws it at him!
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 - 2 = 10
Piercing Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Jeb Barlo |
Jeb shoots a blast of water at the hound by Korad.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 1 = 23 Point Blank Shot & Precise Shot
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 = 6
The Man Behind the Curtain |
Watergreen attempts to hurl a dart at the vanara but to no avail, and the kangaroo-hedgehog-hounds continue their frenzy. The first moves on to bite at Korad while the other continues haranguing Angrboda.
Red Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
Red Bite vs Korad: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Damage: 1d3 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Green Bite vs Angrboda: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Damage: 1d3 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Fuzzzy's blade on the other hand strikes the vanara clean in the center of mass, wounding her gravely and causing him to fall out of his tree. With a thud, it seems as though she won't be threatening you anymore.
Fall Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Stabilize?: 1d20 + 1 - 7 ⇒ (2) + 1 - 7 = -4
Season: 1d4 ⇒ 4
The hounds show no indication of backing down, and Jeb fires a blast at the one between Korad's legs, wounding it severely.
Round 6:

Angrboda (-10)
Watergreen
Flavias
The Hounds (Red -6)
Eniac

Angrboda Fossey |
Knowledge (Nature) to know about these 'little pricks': 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Angrboda now focuses more on self-defense, but continues to...
masterwork scimitar, defensive fighting: 1d20 ⇒ 1
...spazz about.
Eniac, Slug Savant |
tongue vs yellow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 - whatever penalties
It's a testament to the bizarre properties of First World spatial geometry that Eniac and Angrboda don't fall over on top of each other.
The Man Behind the Curtain |
These 'hounds' are what pass for porcupines in the first world. They are fey, and as such resist magic to some extent.
Angrboda and Eniac keep pounding the snow, and Flavias calmly approaches to treat her wounds.
Round 6:
Jeb
Korad (-4)
Angrboda (-1)
Watergreen
Flavias
The Hounds (Red -6)
Eniac
Fuzzzzzzzy
Korad the Avalanche |
Korad takes a quick step back before attempting to deliver a quick kick to the small critter.
Attacking Hound Red
Unarmed Strike Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Non-lethal Bludgeoning Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
5 foot step and attack
The Man Behind the Curtain |
Botting since we are at the less interesting mop-up portion of this encounter.
Not interesting in getting pierced like Korad, Watergreen throws another dart at the remaining hound as it tries to perforate Angrboda.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 2 - 4 = 1 Miss
The hound continues attempting to inscribe morse code on your druid's leg.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 Miss
Round 6/7:
Jeb
Korad (-5)
Angrboda (-1)
Watergreen
Flavias
The Hounds (Red KO'd)
Eniac
Fuzzzzzzzy
Angrboda Fossey |
masterwork scimitar, defensive fighting: 1d20 ⇒ 1
Only a sudden intense spasm prevents Angrboda's blade from flying out of her hand.
Eniac, Slug Savant |
Tongue vs Sticky Toffee: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Threat!: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 - whatever penalties
damage, plus *2* acid!: 2d4 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 3) + 4 + 2 = 11
*GLOMPH!*
Watergreen |
Watergreen collects her thrown darts and cleans them off, and tucks them into her belt. She goes up to the little spiky hounds and pats them carefully.
When she's done she looks around for the colourful bag.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
OH! And she also collects all the cool stuff around for Ashasar! She gets an ice flame, and an ice bird, and an ice flower, and all kinds of cool stuff!
The Man Behind the Curtain |
The birds above the frozen trees are hard to reach, however one bird had not yet taken off when it was frozen. You can attempt a climb check to obtain it.
The frozen flames are particularly delicate. To harvest a good sample will require a Sleight of Hand or Dexterity check.
The frozen flower on the other hand is a simple matter to pick and store. One frozen flower obtained!
The bag on the other hand, doesn't appear to be nearby, but there are several paths leading out of the frigid forest.
Watergreen |
Climb: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Dexterity: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Watergreen climbs up and pulls down a frozen bird, but she messes up and breaks some of the frozen flames! Oh, no! Watergeeen is a little sad about that, but she did get some cool stuff.
She points at the middle path. "I think we should go this way. I have a good feeling about this path."
Angrboda Fossey |
Watergreen successfully collects a frozen bird, but the frozen flame shatters, flares up, and burns out. A couple more remain however...
2 more specimens remain if you wish to retry to have someone else try and/or aid.
Don't look at me, I can barely handle my own g!!$~$n sword.
Korad the Avalanche |
Korad sighs with relief as the hounds are brought down. He does turn some attention to stabilizing the fallen opponent before moving to aid with gathering the frozen flame.
"If able I like to leave as few bodies as possible. At the least she seemed open to talking, at least for a bit. That is far better than some opponents."
Heal to Stabilize Vanara: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
"This is far stranger than I would expected. This frost is far beyond the winters I have seen. I'm sure that others in the society would value this highly."
Dexterity to Aid acquire Frozen Flame: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Fuzzzy |
Fuzzzy looks at the frozen fire. "How delightful!" He reaches out and tries to grab it.
Bobby the Owl |
Bobby reaches out and touches Fuzzzy on her shoulder. His feathers glow for a moment, and the glowing light travels into Fuzzzy. Fuzzzy doesn't seem to notice.
Casting guidance on Fuzzzy.
Fuzzzy |
Dexterity: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 2 + 1 = 14
Jeb Barlo |
"Well that's awfully fine of you Korad."
"I might be able to help with that crazy frozen fire."
Dexterity: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
The Man Behind the Curtain |
Rather quickly, the bizarre winds stop and a frigid chill overcomes the party. The snow on the ground begins to become more like ice sheets.
Fuzzzy holds the frozen flame delicately in his hand, not paying any attention to the sudden change in climate.
Frozen Flame acquired!
Korad does his best, but unfortunately it seems as though the Vanara didn't survive his fall out of the tree.
Flavias Gulianus |
Amused by all the scrambling Flavias will cast detect magic and examine the goodies.
spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Angrboda Fossey |
Angrboda moves in to inspect, followed closely by Eniac.
Spellcraft, Eniac's Guidance, on arrow: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Perception, Eniac's Guidance, on potion #1: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Perception, Eniac's Guidance, on potion #2: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
Watergreen |
Watergreen shivers. "Brrr! It's chilly!' She rubs her (now normal looking) hands up and down her arms. "Nice job with the frozen flames, Fuzzzy!"
She does not want any of the gear and can't help identify stuff.
Fuzzzy |
Fuzzzy smiles and puts the frozen flame away in his bag. He smiles at Watergreen.
"Why thank you, elf woman!" Then he scratches his head. "Hmmm.... Do I know you? I can't seem to recall...."
Fuzzzy sees everyone looking at some items. He strokes his beard. "Hmmm.... What was that spell again..."
Bobby the Owl |
Bobby places his feathery wings on Fuzzzy's shoulder again. His feathers glow brightly, then the glow travels into Fuzzzy. Guidance
"Hoooooot!"
Fuzzzy |
"Ah, yes! DETECT MAGIC!"
Fuzzzy smiles proudly and inspects the magical items.
Spellcraft (arrow): 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 9 + 1 = 19
Spellcraft (potion 1): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Speppcraft (potion 2): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
The Man Behind the Curtain |
The arrow is a bit too powerful for Fuzzzy to identify, but suffice to say it will probably do something interesting if used to shoot someone.
The potions are of Cure Light Wounds and Jump.
As Fuzzzy inspects the items, the chill vanishes, and suddenly the flowers are blooming. Like... really blooming... like... there is so much pollen in the air that everyone is having a hard time getting through more than a few sentences without interjecting sneezes.
Wandering about down the path indicated by Watergreen brings you to a strange looking grove. As you arrive, the flowers cease their pollen assault, but the undergrowth thickens as the air warms. No matter the season however, the air above this grove dances with multicolored sparks that orbit slowly around a massive mound of prickly vegetation and mulch. A cluster of gnarled, leafless trees rises from the heap. Instead of bearing fruit, the trees bear fat, round, bindle bags, each tied closed with silvery rope. Five extinguished campfires dot the grove, each positioned near the mouth of a separate trail.
Korad the Avalanche |
"Ah-choo!" Korad takes a breath of air as the pollen settles. "When we were sent here, I certainly wasn't much of this. This would be more of a story from a fairy tale. I wonder what those bags bear."
Korad moves over one of the trees to begin inspecting the bag and rope before pulling it down.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
