Fuzzzy realizes just a moment before it strikes, that one of the branches is in fact moving to strangle the Oread!
Surprise round!
Fuzzzy
Assassin Vine
Jeb Barlo |
Jeb takes the potion of cure light wounds from Fuzzzy. "I reckon I should hold onto this. Not sure you'll remember you've got it."
Jeb scratches his beard as they travel. "This place is awfully strange."
Fuzzzy |
Fuzzzy sees the trees move. "Watch out, whoever you are!" he exclaims as he puts his hands on his hips. Feeling his sword he grabs it and looks at it. He smiles, then he throws it at the moving plant monster!
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7
Slashing Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 2 + 1 = 11
His sword flies right back to his hand.
Watergreen |
Before the fight:
While Fuzzzy looks at the magical items, Watergreen plucks the frozen flame out of his bag and puts it into her own. Then she smiles at him, takes the potion of jump out of his hand, and puts it in her belt pouch.
"Thanks," she says with a wide grin.
She collects some of the pollen on the walk.
The Man Behind the Curtain |
The vine deflects the flying blade, then slams down on the intruder!

Grab: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23

Angrboda Fossey |
Knowledge (Nature) to know about this sucker: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
Bidding the First World radically redefine its geography is simplicity itself: A large swathe of the glorious forest around the assassin vine suddenly becomes a bleak desert riven with vents of burning natural gas!
Using Menhir Magic again to make it CL 4th. Should it turn out that assassin vines are actually fire-resistant, I will change my action.
fire damage (at conclusion of vine's turn): 1d4 ⇒ 2

Jeb Barlo |
"Whoa there! Let go of my friend!"
Jeb moves forward and shoots a blast of water at the hostile plant.
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 4 + 1 = 20 Precise Shot & Point Blank Shot
Bludgeoning Magic Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 = 7
The Man Behind the Curtain |
Angrboda: Still suffers the penalty. Need to be shooting a side at least 10 ft away from the ally to avoid it, and you don't have line of effect to that face. However, it still hits.
Angrboda, Eniac and Jeb all manage to deal significant damage to the vine that is currently trying to strangle Korad.

Bobby the Owl |
Bobby's feathers begin to glow. He touches Fuzzzy with his feathers and the glow drifts into Fuzzzy.
Casting guidance on Fuzzzy.
Fuzzzy |
Fuzzzy smiles. "What lovely dodging. But, I'm afraid you're hugging that rock fellow too hard. Let go."
He moves to get a better view and throws his sword at the plant...
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 1 + 1 - 4 = 6
Slashing Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
...but it misses again! Fuzzzy catches his sword.
Watergreen |
Watergreen's hands turn a little green as they grow needle-like claws. She hurries forward to help Korad, dodging around the plant's roots and leaves!
Acrobatics to avoid an aoo: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Then she stabs at the plant with her claws!
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Growing claws for free. Moving, acrobatics in the last part, and attacking.
The Man Behind the Curtain |
The party converges on the strange vine. Flavias is able to pull off a single well-placed shot, but Fuzzzy and Watergreen have difficulty.
Maintain Grapple, Pin: 1d20 + 13 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 13 + 5 = 35
Constrict: 1d8 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
The assassin vine begins to wrap Korad's arms and bend them backwards, working to pin him in place. The Oread is unable to withstand the crushing force and blacks out.
At nearly the same time, vines, roots, and shrubs begin to grow at a rapid rate around the party's legs.
Everyone within 30 ft of the vine needs to make a Reflex save DC 13 or be Entangled.

Angrboda Fossey |
Angrboda is momentarily thunderstruck as she recognizes the meaning of what happened during her card game with Eniac last night, when it abruptly wandered away from the game to eat grass, a tall dandelion, and a single stone before returning to her and spitting them back out at her feet: It was a warning!
Reflex save, Soothsayer Boon!: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 I am also shaken for 1 round
Alas, she stumbles over her own sling, and is caught regardless.
Still, that vine is not the only one with sway among the local flora...

Eniac, Slug Savant |
Reflex save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Eniac, for its part, seems it could care less about being suddenly bundled up by the tall grasses around it. It forces its way forward, then sprays ichor in the general direction of the frightful horticultural moshpit.
spit, entangled, melee penalty: 1d20 - 7 ⇒ (14) - 7 = 7 (lest we forget, this is a touch attack)
acid damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
The Man Behind the Curtain |
A tree next to the assassin vine animates, then smashes it over the head with one if the bags hanging from its branches.
Eniac and Flavias simply pelt it with ineffectual attacks.

As the vines wrap around Fuzzzy's feet he laughs. ""I do not want the hugs!"
Reflex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Bobby the Owl |
Bobby's feathers make another tiny light show that pours into Fuzzzy! Guidance.
Fuzzzy |
He throws his sword again, hoping to cut it to pieces!
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 1 + 1 - 2 - 2 = 13
Slashing Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 1 = 8
Watergreen |
Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Watergreen easily dodges the tangling vines by flipping and hopping around like a nimble (giant) frog. Then she stabs at the plant with her claws!
Attack 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Attack 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
"Put him DOWN!"
Auw... I wish that twenty was in a different place. Haha.
Jeb Barlo |
Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Jeb stomps in place, shaking the roots off of his legs. "Go on! GIT!"
He twists his body, and throws a right hook at the plant, causing a blast of water to fly from his fists at the plant's central stalk in a curving arc.
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 = 11 With precise shot.
magic bludgeoning damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Angrboda Fossey |
Angrboda staggers and shambles through the overenthusiastic undergrowth toward Korad, and draws a length of twisted driftwood, that tapers into a somewhat flamboyant spiral at the end and is studded with several very small emeralds, and carefully probes Korad's fractured body....
wand of cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

wand of cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
wand of cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
That should do it! 8 charges spent, 31 remaining, that should suffice (with help) for this adventure, but if anyone were able and willing to contribute any sum of alms in the general direction of my next healing wand, I will gladly accept.
I must confess my disappointment at not getting to logjam/bush-wrastle that thing any more than I got to.
Eniac, Slug Savant |
Eniac helps itself to the infamous vine's berries. What a treat!
Korad the Avalanche |
Korad wakes with a start and takes a moment to slowly recover from all the healing. He glances around at the vine and the terrain to get his bearings before speaking. "I'm grateful the aid Angrboda. I didn't show the proper amount of respect for the dangers here. I'm glad to have you all here. Even with danger looming I feel much safer with you all at my back."
Watergreen |
Watergreen heads right over to the tree and pulls down the bag full of colours! She takes a step away. Then she stops. She heads back to the tree and peeks inside another bag or two, curious if there's anything else useful in the tree bags!
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Fuzzzy |
Fuzzzy sheathes his sword. Then he walks over to the tree. "Oh, look! A bag! Bags are meant to be opened." He nods wisely. Then he plucks one down and checks inside.
Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
Bobby the Owl |
Bobby shakes his head at Fuzzzy and helps check out the bags.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Korad the Avalanche |
Korad stretches out and takes few deep breathes. "This isn't the first time at the least. Although this is the first time by a tree.
I've been better, but I don't feel like I'm coming apart just yet. I will be keeping a more watchful eye on my vegetables though!"
He laughs if off as he pumps his chest a few times, "Thank you for checking."
"Now lets see if anything else is sitting in the tree waiting to jump out."
Korad aids in searching the bags.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
The Man Behind the Curtain |
Watergreen takes a quick peek at the bags up on the trees. One clearly looks like it must be Azure's bag of colors... although one of them is growling at her.
Fuzzzy plucks one off of the tree and starts to peer inside. Suddenly it makes a rallying cry and overwhelms the elderly wizard with a sense of courage and resolve.
Angrboda is working at Korad's wounds, who is beginning to take a peek around.
Flavias is busy tending to his wounded clothing.
...when all of a sudden...
WOOOOOMMMMMPPPPP
You all hear the thunderous drone of a hunter's horn! From 4 of the 5 passages each come a fey, armed and ready to do battle.
Angrboda, you only have gotten a chance to use the wand 3 times before their arrival. Korad, you are currently at 11 if my math is right. If that number should be higher please correct me. If it should be lower... well... ignore me.
“Outlanders and thieves!” declares a muscular man with goats’ legs and glowing green eyes. Casting back his cloak to reveal curling horns atop his head, he continues, “We of the Whirlwood wild hunt do hereby doom you unto death!”
From another quadrant of the grove, a furry scout pipes up. “Clortho, please. For all we know, they have been sent here by Ng, or another one of the Eldest.”
“Ssstuff it, Ronronne,” hisses a third hunter, “Why can’t we just agree to have a good old fashioned hunt, yess?”
“Because, Xox,” says the wolflike fourth, “we cannot hunt without our full complement. Where is Daisag?”
Korad the Avalanche |
Korad matches Flavias as he tries to not put too much strain on his body. "Ah, yes my friends. I ask you to please offer us poor travelers reprieve. We only wish to fix something that was broken and not cause trouble. As my friend says, we are here on behalf of the Concordance. They have much to offer you and it would be bothersome to start a fight over some little bits and pieces. I'm Korad, a humble traveler and merchant."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Fuzzzy |
Fuzzzy smiles brightly and waves. "Oh, hello! I'm not a thief! Or, at least... I don't think I'm a thief." Fuzzzy puts the bag he has taken from the tree and puts it into his bag. He doesn't seem to realize he's doing it. "Bobby? Am I a thief?"
Bobby the Owl |
Bobby shakes his head and sighs. "Hooo..." His feathers glow, and the glow passes down into Fuzzzy. Casting guidance on Fuzzzy.
Fuzzzy |
Fuzzzy smiles and nods. "See? There you go! My owl says I'm not a thief."
Watergreen |
Watergreen puts Azure's bag of colours, and the growling bag, into her backpack. Then she smiles at the Wild Hunt. "You call us thieves? And yet, here you defend a tree that possesses colours stolen from another? YOU are the thieves." Her needlelike claws grow from her fingertips and her skin goes a little green. "We of the Pathfinder Society do hereby doom YOU unto death! Unless you back down now and let us pass safely. Shall we call a truce?"
Jeb Barlo |
Jeb scratches his beard as the Wild Hunt threatens their lives. "Well, if that's the way it's gonna be. I reckon that's the way it's gonna be." He takes up a defensive stance with his feet planted firmly on the ground and his fists up and ready to defend himself.
Jeb's curious what kind of defences these guys have (DR and resistances), then any special attacks. If he rolls high enough he also wants to know if they have any weaknesses.
Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
The Man Behind the Curtain |
Garrow mutters. "Where's Daisag..."
Ronronne cocks her head at Flavias and Korad. "What's a concordance? Can they help us hunt?"
Xox grins. "Yes... the hunts... the hunts of yesteryear... so much fun! I like these folk."
The one apparently named Clortho bellows laughter and puts his weapon away. He puts his arm around Watergreen and declares "Hah! Yes you are the finest kind of prey! How about this... we'll give you a generous head start to escape, and then we can have a great old hunt! For old time's sake!"
Garrow mutters... "A hunt without Daisag?"
Ronronne shrugs, and draws her bow.
Xox nods and draws his bow.
Clortho grins... "Alright hunters... half a minute then we give chase!"
Presuming you wish to take them up on this head start, you can all attempt a skill check that you feel would be relevant to getting out of here.
Jeb: Clortho is a Faun, and the rest of the hunters are skinwalkers. Clortho, as a first-worlder, has dr/cold iron, and resists cold and electricity as well as having a small degree of spell resistance.
Angrboda Fossey |
Angrboda wastes no time blazing her way through the alien wilds...
Survival, Eniac's Guidance, Grand Lodge Chronicler: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30

Flavias Gulianus |
Flavias, having just finished getting the proper fold on his pants leg gets about halfway through one more sentance before deciding that perhaps running really is the better choice, and hops a log as he books it.
acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19
The Man Behind the Curtain |
Angrboda is able to rapidly pick out the passage that you arrived on and the party takes off! After 30 seconds or so you hear the warhorn blast again... they're on your tail!
Flavias runs full speed and begins leaping logs and ducking branches, blazing a trail for the rest of you!
You hear the sounds of laughing as the hunters begin to close on you... "A hunt once again! It has been too long..."
An arrow, blindly fired, rips through the canopy and lands a dozen yards from the party.
Jeb, Korad, Watergreen, and Fuzzzzzzzy remain.
Korad the Avalanche |
Korad, more than content with his companions guile and ability, begins to retreat with the rest of the party. "I am grateful for this opportunity and would love to meet again under less hostile circumstances~," he calls backwards as he begins leaping over log and gap.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
