GM Dak |

We have lost a player so I wanted to check for interest in picking up at least one new player, possibly two. We are still very early in the AP so you will still be starting out at Lvl 1. We lost our skill monkey so that will be a priority to replace. The existing party consists of the following:
Male elf Sorcerer
Male Tengu Inquisitor
Female Human Barbarian
Male Aasimar Cleric
This will be a short recruitment. Only leaving it open until Nov. 2nd. Details below. Extra points if you link into what has already happened to date.
- Starting Level: 1
- Wealth: Average for Class
- Classes: Core, APG, ACG allowed. Can use unchained for Barb, Monk, Rogue, Summoner.
- Races: Core, Aasimer, Tiefling or Tengu preferred. Will consider others with exceptional background.
- Alignment: No evil.
- HP: Max at 1st, half + 1 after
- Attributes: 20 point buy, no stat below 10 before racial adjustments.
- Traits: 2, 1 must be a campaign trait.
- Drawbacks: You can take a drawback for one additional trait, however it should be something that will come into effect (ie if you don't plan to ever make a diplomacy check, don't take a drawback that effects dimplomacy). Restricted drawbacks: Attached, Envy, Forgetful, Umbral Unmasking, Warded Against Nature.
- Background skills will be in use.
- No 3rd Party content
0) Download & read the Players Guide. NOTE - The original guide may provide additional useful information on the races/classes
1) Develop character concept. Crunch does not need to be complete but it can be. Character concept should include the following:
- Class
- Alignment
- Characters link to Sandpoint: How long have you been in Sandpoint? Are you a resident? If not, why are you there?
- Livelihood: How does your character make a living?
- Rollplay vs Roleplay: How will your character contribute to the group in and out of combat? Do you prefer one over the other?
- Progression: How do you plan to mechanically develop the character (ie dips, multiclassing, PrCs, etc)? If you don't have a plan yet, that is ok.
- Background: What is the characters backstory? Doesn't need to be a novel, but at least 1-2 paragraphs of an overview.
2) Let me know your time zone and the time(s) of day you will most likely be able to post.
3) What is your experience with PbP? How many PbP games are you currently participating in? Do you have a particular PbP moment you are proud of?

Karrn Ligune
Class: Exploiter Wizard (or Eldritch Scoundrel)
Alignment: NG
Characters link to Sandpoint:
Born and raised in sand point his family are passionate followers of Sarenrae. They are by no means the biggest donors the new cathedral, but their willingness to live modestly, on the verge of poverty, to see Sandpoint thrive have given them a great deal of notoriety in the city. The recent disruption of the Swallowtail festival has been a great blow to their morale. The other consequence of their piety is they give so much that their life is that of pure necessity. To provide them with some comfort and support himself Karrn Ligune works two jobs. First, selling scroll and magical wears for a wizard in Sandpoint, his boss is likely connected to the underbelly of Sandpoint, likely the Night Scales, but Karrn turns a blind eye because he needs the money. This job has also allowed him to apprentice and develop his scribing craft, which in turn lead him to his second job working as a scribe and clerk to the mayor and sheriff (this is how he is caught up on the action of the group). Karrn has been in and out of the meeting with the group all day hanging on to ever word as they attempt to right wrongs.
Livelihood:
Scribe, clerk and salesman.
Rollplay vs Roleplay:
How will your character contribute to the group in and out of combat?
Control and utility caster, scribe scrolls. His skills will be monster knowledges and spellcraft to start. His hawk/figment/sage familiar is a magical being that he has created to disable traps and aid him in other tasks.
Do you prefer one over the other?
I think they go hand-in-hand. Characters are best when the mechanics support roleplaying. It does not work well to play a great speaker with a bad diplomacy score. You write an amazing speech and fail the roll, which makes for incoherent storytelling.
Progression:
Just keeping on the wizard path picking the spells the group.
Background:
See link to sand point.
This is an intentionally odd build. A fledgling exploiter wizard who has created a familiar from a fraction of his own psyche to perform the tasks he can’t (perceive danger and disable traps).
I have an alternate build that works with this story that is more conventional as a skill monkey. It is an Eldritch Schoudrel rogue. If the group prefers that.
I can summit either build or both. What works better for you and the group GM Dak?

- Class: Rogue
- Alignment: Neutral
- Characters link to Sandpoint: Leto is a Sandpoint resident, living at the edge of the city, where his parents lived since they escape chelish slavery. He's been there for al his life.
- Livelihood: Leto is a thief and scoundrel, making his living by cheating on those who look down on the smaller folk, by dealings with the church of Norgorber. He's highly interested in magic though and acquired some knowledge he's putting to work on different jobs he can get.
- Rollplay vs Roleplay: Switch Hitter able to melee and do some ranged attacks. Damage comes from Sneak Attack, so relying on flanking.
Disarming traps, good with wands, scrolls, etc. outside of combat as well as the typical rogue abundance of skills. Maybe scouting.
- Progression: Probably pure rogue, might look at shadowdancer later on for a flanking buddy or halfing opportunist.
- Background: Leto was born to escaped chelish slaves, who live in moderate poverty. He believes the world is greater and has more to offer though than scrabbling with goblins over garbage at the edge of a small city though. He's interested in all he can learn and magic, hoping to one day claim something better for himself.
2) Timezone GMT/UTC +1; usualy posting 1-2 over the day and 1-2 times in the evening. Posting depends on adventure status and speed.
3) Currently in 4 totaly different PbPs with very different speed and tone. Got experience in PbP since my first one in 2012, been in many campaigns and PFS. Can't really say i'm proud about PbP moments, but there have been many stories and episodes i really enjoyed, what is one of the main reasons i continue to do this. Especially fond memories of some of the Dark Sun campaigns, which always had deeper role playing.
I read about your gaming style and can say i'm on the same boat there. Applied in your other game too, but might be missing something there still. I'm looking for a longgoing campaign with good and deep roleplay as well as sound tactics and mechanical aspects.
Besides monks, rogues are my favorite class.

I applied to your game the first time around, and I think a slightly modified version of the original character would fit your criteria, please let me know if I'm missing anything. I'm not sure what works in terms of a drawback, so let me know if you think it fits.
Note that I significantly changed the background from my first submission, to be more appropriate to RotRL. This character can find and disable magical traps, even though he is a ranger.

1) Class - Ranger 1

Characters link to Sandpoint: How long have you been in Sandpoint? Are you a resident? If not, why are you there?
Sven traveled to Sandpoint for the dedication of the cathedral (Desna being one of the deities of import) from Magnimar, where he was researching giants (very unsuccessfully). He has grown frustrated with his progress, as he is not especially good at books. He is not a resident, though he likes the town, as it reminds of his former home in the Nolands.
Livelihood: How does your character make a living?
Sven is a hunter and trapper to pay the bills when times get tough.
Rollplay vs Roleplay: How will your character contribute to the group in and out of combat? Do you prefer one over the other?
Sven will contribute in combat by providing decent fighting capability, trapfinding, and eventually, significant spellcasting (mostly buffing and nature-themed spells). Out of combat he will have moderate social skills, well-rounded knowledge ability, be able to get along in the wild extremely well (it looks like your party lacks this a bit), and will try to act as a gregarious and friendly member of the party, if one who is a bit chaotic and prone to having a temper. I like both equally, for the most part.
Progression: How do you plan to mechanically develop the character (ie dips, multiclassing, PrCs, etc)? If you don't have a plan yet, that is ok.
Ranger 1/Druid X, with a possible dip into barbarian or bloodrager (if the story warranted it). He would eventually take Vital Strike and associated feats, and after level 6 would spend most combats wildshaped into giant form. Note that he will still act as a trapfinder/scout in perpetuity. I would be happy choosing an animal companion for the druid, or not, as warranted by DM/party preference. I can manage multiple characters pretty well in these PBPs, so it would not be an issue on my end.
Background: What is the characters backstory? Doesn't need to be a novel, but at least 1-2 paragraphs of an overview.
Sven is a towering half-orc with long blond braided hair. He has pale, blue-green skin, and green eyes. He wears a hodgepodge of traditional ulfen garb and armor, with both in various states of patched disrepair.
Sven was born in the Nolands, to an Ulfen shieldmaiden that was exiled from the Land of the Linnorm Kings for reasons she would never discuss. He had a hard life, growing up between two worlds and never being accepted by either. His small village was under constant threat of attack from Ulfen raids, giants, and even occasionally drow, but managed to get by with a mix of careful diplomacy and defenses. He fought with people in town, and was easy to anger, but managed to contribute in a positive way.
His mother trained him to learn traditional Ulfen weapons with the hope that he would become a barbarian or ranger of reknown, but he had other ideas. He travelled outside of town and trained in shamanistic traditions from an old orc druid that lived nearby and who called on Sven secretly to train him. He appreciated nurturing of this potential connection, and decided to follow in the orc's footsteps - though perhaps focusing more on some of the primal magic that seemed to be bound to Varisia's heart.
Not long after his 16th birthday, the village was sacked and destroyed by a band of ogres and stone giants, with the only survivors being him and his mother, and only by the pity of a stone giant who knocked them out and whisked them south after Sven foolishly challenged the giant to "single combat."
Sven is now fascinated by giants and has an abiding interest in giantkind. He does not know why the giant spared him nor his mother but doubly exiled, they travelled south to a settlement outside of Riddleport, and away from the mountains. His mother had no interest in living near giantish communities and told Sven to strike out to the south if he wanted to learn more about the history of Giants. She recommended that he join the Pathfinder society, which she was once a member of, as they had extensive libraries, and he was instructed to travel to Magnimar to do so.
Sven grew up with his mother's faith in Desna and has a traveler's and explorer's wanderlust. He appreciates her kinship with the road and tries his best to do good but his anger can sometimes manifest in less positive ways. He loves traveling, exploring, and learning new stories, but is particularly fascinated by the lore of giants and their history in Varisia. He doesn't understand them well but has a feeling he himself may have some giant blood.
He has recently traveled to Sandpoint for the dedication to the new cathedral.
2) Let me know your time zone and the time(s) of day you will most likely be able to post.
EST with posts from 8:00-9:30 am, 12:30-1:30 pm, 5:30-6:30, and 10:00 pm - 12:00 am. During the weekend it is more variable, but I try to post every time my action comes up within a few hours.
3) What is your experience with PbP? How many PbP games are you currently participating in? Do you have a particular PbP moment you are proud of?
I started doing PbP a few months ago on the boards. I have applied to a few (this was one of the first that I applied to), and am participating in 6, but only three of those post with regularity.
I think I came up with a pretty nice post here for an NPC's funeral in our Ironfang game.
Note that I am happy to swap skills around as the party likes.

Gudada Purrun |

Trapfinder? I happen to know someone with a certain . . . flair for that role.
The profile ALMOST meets your creation requirements. The only flaw that I see quickly is he started with 10 GP too much. Swapping his Leather Armor for a Leather Tunic (and reducing his 2 GP to 1) is really the net of that change. Easily done if needed.
I think the vast majority of your questions are answered in the profile already.
Gudada ('Dada) is a Varisian, trained to distract and misdirect in order to take what the family needs from the locals, but never so much as to make them not let the family back into town.
I am Central US, and most of posting happens weeknights after work and before bed. I sometimes check my phone for traffic while at work, but ALMOST never post while at work.
I am in quite a few games, so I check the boards pretty regularly.

hmm. I had figured that, but then I had a thought. Would you allow me to use the same character concept(maybe a few small tweaks), but change the class? I was thinking about making him a slayer (picking up trapfinding around levels 2 3 or 4) instead of the original class I had been using. If not, thats fine and I'll be working on a different submission until I hear from you just in case.

2) Let me know your time zone and the time(s) of day you will most likely be able to post.
3) What is your experience with PbP? How many PbP games are you currently participating in? Do you have a particular PbP moment you are proud of?
A proud moment:
I have a grippli shaman UAS combat style that has gone five levels without killing anyone. I happened to roll a couple nat 20s in a chase and had to solo a fight. I had no choice but to throw everything I had at it. In the maelstrom of buffs, debuff and flurries the gm had forgotten I had been doing non-lethal and said I had killed the man. So, I PMed the GM and 'hey I was doing non-lethal, but I think this is perfect let's roll with it.' I stopped fighting ran over administered healing mid-combat. The remaining enemy that could not win alone, so he gave up helped to save his friend. A moment later the cleric showed up and coached my shaman through the shock that ensued from thinking he had committed murder.
I offer this because the moment was great, it gave the other characters (the cleric) a chance to shine, especially because they had been locked out of combat by the old chase mechanics and it used an error (which happens and are no big deal) to create a great story moment.
