Just a thought, if Ala'Ihys is able to use said wand, wouldn't it be worth a shot to do the following.
Kravg holds out the wand on his turn, Ala'Ihys grabs it as part of his move moving to Toorin, then heals our resident elf to stable.
GM Chyro |
Which luckily, paladins do have on their list.
Joseph, may i suggest you move, for safety's sake. Zombies go for the nearest target.
I checked, Ala'Ihys can make it to Toorin with 1 move action.
----------------------
Edit: in general, 5ft stepping and readying an attack could be more effective. Since zombies don't 5ft step save for that dramatic cinematic they waste actions on moves, Kravg has reach trip with 4 AoO a/round.
Lord Joseph Wraitheart |
16 hp? Don't you mean 12? I don't know what kind of zombies they are...
Hell, Skeletons only have 4 hp...
GM Chyro |
The pdf puts them at 16.
But i agree, let's take the 12 hp version for everyone's sake.
GM Chyro |
Kravg....you won't be able to hold out the healing wand to save Toorin if you flurry, provided you guys take that option. Toorin's 1 con dmg away from death. Retcon if you want, before Brallenera posts and the round finishes.
Ala’Ihys the Archer |
Ala'Ihys used Toorins potions, I assume pouring them down his throat is a standard move each, of course fishing in his pocket was probably a a standard move also, so that's one round maybe two, so both Ala'Ihys and Toorin are at 1Hp each, may need to borrow the wand, if Kravg tells us where it is Ala'Ihys can fish it out without interrupting Kravg fighting :)
GM Chyro |
Trouble is, you use 1 move action to get to Toorin.
The 2 AoO in advance missed, even without the check, which is good.
Retrieving a stored item from yourself/another's inventory is a move action.
That leaves 1 action short of administering the potion to Toorin.
If you are wearing a bandolier, i can imagine a potion hanging from it and being able to draw it as part of your movement, since you have +1 BaB.
If it's in a backpack, it'd be difficult to do that.
So either Kravg (or Brallenera) holding out a healing item provides you with an action left for healing, or Toorin is dead if he fails his con roll. Of course they'd be taking AoO for retrieving said item, unless they attack once, then 5ft step and retrieve it.
Dying characters also take penalties on their con roll, equal to their negative hp.
Brallenera Thalkham |
I'll give one of my CLW potions and take the AoO (see my post from 23th may in the Discussion thread ; i got 2 CLW potions)
edited my in game post
GM Chyro |
Don't you just love hypothetical scenarios that play out as planned?
You're on your own now ;)
GM Chyro |
I think they can, but they take the -4 penalty on attacks.
GM Chyro |
Well, as is you took Brallenera's potion to help Toorin.
But as Kravg mentioned above, you can use it since it's on your spells list.

The annoying thing about the bandolier is that I found that it doesn't appear to do much. It doesn't make it faster for you to grip potions as it's still a standard action, same as when getting out of your pack.
The difference is possibly an argument that you can root through you pack whilst in battle maybe...
GM Chyro |
Ala'Ihys, in gameplay, did you want to heal Joseph twice and take AoO (which on 1 hp might not be the best), or hindsight once and be safe?

I did not realize Ala'Ihys was near enough to be the subject of an AoO, but if that is the case 'hindsight once and be safe...
if he had to move to be able to cast on Joseph he would not have 5ft stepped to be beside the zombie, he would have gone the 10ft through Kravg's space
GM Chyro |
Just asking...there's the daredevils. ;)
Consult the map link if you wonder if you're in the clear for something.
Toorin |
The act of using a wand to cast a spell does not normally provoke an AOO.
Activation: Wands use the spell trigger activation method, so casting a spell from a wand is usually a standard action that doesn't provoke attacks of opportunity.
GM Chyro |
Ah, thanks for correcting there.
Still, it would be risky to heal twice, as you're on 1 hp.
Toorin |
If casting a spell from a wand is a standard action, then doing it twice in one turn would not normally be possible, would it?
GM Chyro |
Brallenera, about that post.
That was actually before Kravg retconned his action to hold out the wand instead of a flurry. A type error on my part, since i copied the previous text and forgot to remove the -5 on that post.
Anyway, it's no longer on the map, just 1 left to remove.
GM Chyro |
One should never let a zombie standing either :)
GM Chyro |
Bravely ran away, he did, oh brave sir Robin.
Kravg Ironfeather |
Damn unlucky rolls, even when he was level 3 that would have caused him to run.
Might not necessarily run because he's scared, but because he wants a good hard word with the dice gods.
GM Chyro |
Oh, i didn't make him run, only double move. Darn..
^^
Toorin |
Just a head's up, I'll be away from my usual computers and routines from Friday to Sunday. My father-in-law died and so I'll be out of town for the funeral. I may have access to wifi and some time to kill, so I'll try to check in but don't expect any posts until Sunday night or Monday.
GM Chyro |
Aw man...sry for the loss. :/
Take your time, weekends are not busy in posts anyway.
Toorin |
Thank you. All things considered, it's for the best. He was in failing health and advanced age. My wife and I had a good visit a few years ago when he was healthy and lucid. He lived a full life, outlived two wives, has five adult children who are all successful in their lives. So it's sad, but not a tragic kind of sad.
Toorin |
By the way, feel free to 'bot Toorin if it will keep things moving. His options are generally fairly limited. He'll throw a TK punch if he doesn't have to get past cover. Otherwise he doesn't mind wading in with his longsword to fight. He might do that if the cleric looks like she might start slinging more spells, try to get in her face to force her to cast defensively if he can. He's in favor of capturing her if possible to get her to explain what is going on.
GM Chyro |
A little trivia;
I'll be running this scenario for the other group on tier 3-4.
A friend of mine who is running season 0, i'm joining up later, will play this tier 6-7.
So anything you have now, is going to be much worse when i get to it.
Wonderful......i'll notify you guys how that will turn out, when the time comes. ^^
Kravg Ironfeather |
Sorry for the absence, busy day yesterday and table-top day today. We're in a Grinder dungeon; The Seven Swords of Sin. We've just reached second floor and the first of us died on the first floor today.
I like the rooms, though it is very tough. Luckily we were given liberty for any shenanigans we wanted.
Lord Joseph Wraitheart |
Sorry I've been unable to post for a few days. Due to work the only time I could see my BF was to go straight there from work and the following day I ended up being worn out and feeling ill.
I do apologies for holding you up.
Also, sorry for your loss.
Toorin |
I'm back in town. Don't have much to add tonight, but a while back, Toorin made a knowledge religion roll for the run-of-the-mill zombies and got a good result.
Knowledge (Religion): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
In case a second roll is needed for the common zombies.
Does he know for sure if these zombies are or are not the type that cause their victims to rise as zombies later? If they are, he'll be recommending we be cutting the heads off the corpses we find or anything else we can do to prevent them from rising as undead.
