So, Taerine is starting to come together. It's going to be interesting trying to play her starting as such a high level. Kineticists seem to be such a balancing act with burn; if I take 199 points of (non-lethal) damage via burn, I get +6 Con, for instance (giving me back 51 hp), plus +4 Dex and +2 Str, and +5 to hit and +10 damage with my kinetic blasts.

At any rate, Taerine will primarily be a damage dealer and advocate for Asmodeus. I was expecting to have her be ranged, but looking around at the group, I'm wondering if I should perhaps look for a little more melee power, which I don't think would be a huge problem for her...

Oh my...

Silas should be done later tonight or tomorrow. I have about 120k gold left to spend on gear and items, I have to fill his spellbook with the rolled books and also his spells per level.

Silas is mainly conjuration focused, a devotee of Nethys, though leaning heavily to the good aspects of Nethys. He is in contact with and works alongside many Celestial beings, archons, angels, agathions and Azata. He summons them to battle quite often, and also specializes in identifying magical auras, and spell duels with enemy casters. (Can thru exploits and actions counter 2 spells every round)

Combat wise, Silas tends to augment the party with summons, either single powerful creatures when needed, or can summon larger groups of lesser creatures in order to take up space. His spell selection is going to be fairly broad, a mix of damage, CC, utility.

Just think of him as the old man, doesn't seem very assuming, but sharp as a tack and with a ton of tricks up his sleeves.

How tailored would you like us to go for this adventure, GM Choon?

I'm considering Kinetic Counter as a feat, which would let me counter the many cold-related abilities I expect we'll face. That said, I don't think I would normally take that for this character; I'd be doing it almost exclusively for this adventure, so I'm feeling a bit like I'm metagaming if I snag it.

One question decides things like that for me: can my backstory justify it?

Decided I'd make it her 17th-level feat, so she effectively knows she's heading there and took it in preparation (mostly because the other feats felt more like boring/number-crunching-adding stuff, while this give more options of things to do).


Meanwhile, I'm more of a buff/heal character. About the only thing that I think I need to do before we start is get my prepared spells out of the way.

Almost done; just trying to finish up my gear. (Then finish all my macros so I have some clue what my damage capabilities are under various permutations, but we don't need to wait on that.)

I'm basically trying to decide at this point between a ring of regeneration (which from my understanding would NOT affect damage from burn, but would otherwise keep my hp up) or a ring of energy resistance.

The former's obviously more powerful, but with the cost, it means I wouldn't be able to get a max-power kineticist's diadem (which would add 3d6 damage to my kinetic blasts when I use it from range, though not when I use it in melee). Obviously a ring of energy resistance is likely to be pretty valuable in Irrisen.

Any thoughts? Either way I can grab a wand or two to help my healing and I see Tor's planning to bring some healing to the board so maybe the regeneration's not quite as valuable...


For the cost, ring of regen is not worth it imo. It's fast healing 1 for 90k; imo, you'd be better off with a ring of inner fortitude (the greater ring is only 66k gp). I will definitely have heals down, when I'm not killing enemies with orb of the void =)

glad to see you got into that game, hope you have fun.

I think Taerine's just about done in terms of gear. I've still got about 6,000 I can spend -- on consumables, perhaps? -- if there's anything anyone can think of.

I've got a few utility wands and scrolls but could certainly add a few more.

Definitely nice with the kineticist to not have to worry about buying weapons. That's a great way to save a lot of money assuming we don't run into anything that's immune to fire...


@ Talon: It's been interesting so far. I have high hopes for this group as well!

@Taerine: I'd recommend first aid gloves for 4500 gp. They can breath of life someone twice before they're spent. Then grab a couple of level 1 wands.


Heh, I just noticed what everyone is playing. Wierdly, I kinda fill the tank role, which I was filling in my other group too...


Not to pick on Taerine, but I figured we should get the religious stuff out of the way first.

Finalizing the last few spells for spell book, still have about 32k gold to spend, and having his standard loadout of spells prepared.

Hoping that I can have that all done so that I can make the final update to his alias tonight.

of all the party members here, I feel that Talon may be the least likely to fully trust. and that does not come unfounded. I wanted introductions to allow me to provide each of you a little insight to Talon's motivations as well as quirks about him.

I can assure you Talon is probably not one to completely betray the party. but he can be rather devious, and sometimes acts without much forewarning. that is a trait from years of working alone.

he seldom has had partners but when he did it was never more than one other person.

being a prt of a larger group is new to him. and he always thinks of ways to betray others if only to be wary of that in them, after all if he thought of it, someone else may have also.

so I apologize if I am slowing things down, but this is a one-shot module, lets make the most of it and not try and race to the end. unless of course this is a race possibly against the other table?

Ok, have an initial spell selection done for prepared spells, have the spellbook finished except for about half a dozen spells that honestly I don't know what else I want to take. Down to a small amount of gold on hand as well.

Question for you Choon: I know when we did Tomb of the Iron Medusa, there was possibilities for us to level advance past the starting level if certain things occurred. Is there a similar chance in this module, or no? I have about eight or ten 9th level spells from spell books and scrolls that I could add to my spellbook. I'm trying to decide if I use them freely as scrolls, or if I should hold them in reserve to scribe into the book later on.

Guys, can I strongly suggest pushing. If you're going to go spy on the camp, give the Stealth rolls as that will make everything go faster.

Just FYI, since the kineticist is so new, I'm trying to include lots of rules details just so you guys can make sure I'm not screwing anything up. Please tell me if it gets to be annoying/you don't want me to do it.

Hey guys, I'm getting my office painted starting tomorrow so my posting may be a little spotty for a few days. (Of course, it's possible I move my computer and everything into another room, because 24 hours without being online could be too much for me.)

For the games I'm a player in, it'll probably just be Monday I'd be out of touch, as I could post updates at work when I go back Tuesday.

Am on my phone so too much of a pain to post in character but I have a wand of lesser restoration I can use to help we've been adventuring for about five minutes. Let's heal up and not rest yet.

One problem with that:

Lesser restoration repairs ability damage, not ability drain.

Ya. By standing to fight a bit too long Silas kinda threw a wrench in this whole gig right off, and I'd be lying if I said I'm not taking a like of perverse amusement from it. :P

You can always continue and have the angel stand in front of him in case something sneezes in his general direction.
