It is difficult to tell how much time has passed through the smothering canopy as Medda addresses the regrouped Pathfinder and Twinhorn forces. “The ancient battlefield is just beyond those trees. There, Ivvora and her comrades scattered an undead army, but the necromantic taint never left this land. Instead, the plants and animals have gradually absorbed the evil, encouraged by someone calling herself Mother Bloodleaf.

“We must strike as one, simultaneously attacking the corruption’s heart as well as the seedpods spread out around the swamp. Their destruction will unleash harmful energies, so we of the Twinhorn following shall head toward the center to ritually disperse that energy to keep it from festering anew! Each team should follow its Twinhorn mystic to an intended target, and from there, three blasts of a horn shall signal our attack. May Vildeis bless us as she did Ivvora before us!”

Medda, the Twinhorns, and the Pathfinders spread out and make their way through the woods to their striking positions. Even though much of the forest withers from some evil curse, eager faces flow from tree to tree as the friendly, whispering spirits encourage their would-be saviors onward.

Three blasts of a war-horn echo across the heavily forested battleground. As the Pathfinders rush toward their targets, startled figures with purple glowing eyes hurry toward the seedpods and the enormous dark flower at the heart of the swamp. A shriek carries over the battleground. “What treachery is this? My minions have fallen without so much as warning me? No matter, I shall rip out any trespassers’ souls and feed them to the blight!”

Table GMs, the Unaware Guardians and Helpful Spirits effects are in effect (see the Guardians and Spirits sidebar on page 39), and the way to area Q is now open. Please move to that encounter area quickly.

Luckily Medda's voice resounds through the forest, urging you to join her.

As you approach, the forest spirits who have followed you since the grove of faces halt your approach. You recognize the Top Face from before as it addresses you. "We will aid you as much as we can. Some of us have distracted the guardians and lured them away from the direct path."
Enemies will start at a different location and may be staggered for the first round if they fail their Reflex Save.

The Left Face looks at you with a calm demeanor. "We have opened up a portal between two of the trees. Enter a portal and you will appear next to the other one. We can keep it open for one minute."
Portals will be marked with a "P" on the map.

You prepare magical fortifications as you approach the Heart of the Blight.

The ancient battleground has turned into a fetid swamp that fills the air with the scent of death and decay. Rusted weapons jut out from the patches of solid land. Here and there, skeletal remains and grimacing skulls clad in ruined iron peek out from the glowing mire. A seedpod pulsing with purplish energy grows on an islet across the swamp.

Several creatures hiss as you approach the seedpod. All of them have faint glowing purple eyes and flowers growing from their flesh.

The water glows a dim purple, providing dim light throughout the area. It counts as a shallow bog and costs 2 squares of movement.

The tree near the center requires either a DC 15 Climb or DC 18 Escape Artist check to pass.

The tree near the seedpod requires either a DC 18 Acrobatics check to cross it. If you fail by 5 or more, you fall into the water.

Make a Fort Save each time you enter the water or start your turn in the water.

You catch a glimpse of the Right Face smiling and laughing at what seems to be a mobile plant surrounded by three rotting humanoids with vines growing forth from them.

The plant is a Yellow Musk Creeper, plants who can use their pollen to entrance and can bore through people's brains.

Knowledge(Nature) DC 15:
The humanoids are now Yellow Musk Zombies. Their bodies are animated by a Yellow Musk Creeper plants, and thus they have plant traits (and not undead traits.)

"Well, well, looks like the cavalry has arrived and my job is done here. Toodles!" The spirit bursts in a blaze of mist.

Atronia decides to follow Tormond toward the undead humanoids, but she stops before reaching her target. "How about a merry tune to give us some strength in this gloomy forest?

She starts singing one of her usual combat songs, this one about some creeping, unknown evil force and the glorious knights who fought it to defend their nation.

Starting Inspired Rage, if anyone wants to take the benefits from it. As a reminder, here is how inspired rage works: With inspired rage, any ally can accept it. It gives +2 Strength and Constitution (morale bonus), +1 to will saves and -1 to AC. However, those affected by it can't cast spells or use most Cha, Dex or Int based skills. Tormond can use the stats from his own rage while accepting my song, without spending rounds of rage, but he won't get his other rage powers etc. I doubt he'd want that. Also, people will not be fatigued at the end of it. For the GM, my stats while raging are in parenthesis. It also gives me fast healing 2.

The former humans lurch toward Tormond and his ursine ally, who are more than prepared. They strike but the zombies are still moving.

Big Covadil, inspired by Atronia's passion, continues to draw on the power of his own implements to boost his speed so that he can hopefully bridge the gap to the Seedpod a little quicker.

He then moves through the portal and rushes towards the pod on his giant legs, readying his giant weapon as he approaches.

I'm a little confused as to which squares are double movement. Is it the green ones? Is it a move action to use the portal or you just move straight through it and keep moving?

Not trusting himself, particularly in his large form, to cross the narrow tree bridge, Big Covadil just wades through the glowing water until he gets within reach of the pod.

Covadil- the brown ground is normal terrain, while the green grass is difficult. I'll need a Fort Save as you enter the water.

Covadil recalls the essence of speed as he races along the path, around the trees and up to the seedpod. As he wades in, he feels the water corroding his feet.

Fort Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

He takes 1 damage as he approaches it.

Taariik approaches the seedpod and has no trouble splashing acid upon it, but his magic has no effect.

The seedpod has hardness 5.

His summon eagle, roused by Atronia's music, manages to bite and scratch the pod slightly.

Restless Eagle balances along the log and finds a weakpoint to strike critically. And yet she finds resistance with each swing.

Smite Evil bypasses DR, but not Hardness, right? Doesn't matter, because

Taariik's summoned eagle finds a weakpoint and tears into it, bursting the seedpod open. Negative energy explodes forth, hitting Covadil, Restless Eagle and the summoned creature for 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4 damage.

Will Save DC 11 for half damage.

Meanwhile, Atronia closes in on the plant before hacking into it. It shudders as her sword digs in, but it still functions!
