Actually, I was under the impression I had LOS to the cultist from where I was at. I certainly wouldn't have moved into the front of the marching order. My intent was to get an arrow off as the rest of the party moved up. But, whatever, I won't force you to rewind again.

Malachite nods at the orders from Old Shu, but just as he turns to head north to get Mu Ping, teh master monk is coming his way, and fast....
"Wise Master..." Malachite says in his slow defined way of speaking, but Mu Ping is already past him dodging behind columns ahead of the group.
Malachite stands open-mouthed for a second, the well-laid plans apparently gone in a moment's notice. Then he gathers up his temple sword and makes to follow Old Shu into the heat of battle.
Malachite will follow behind Old Shu if he advances. He will take total defense if confronted by the Ogre Zombie, which makes his AC for this round 24.
GM Bold Strider |
Ok! I really just wanted confirmation because I couldn't get him to behind a pillar with his declared route.
Malachite's readied action fails to go off as Shu does not move this turn.
Malachite stands around, wondering whether to follow Shu or Mu.
Shu pulls out a scroll and buffs himself with a Shield spell. A shimmering light envelops the tiny gnome.
Mu leaps around the ogre zombie, vaulting over the greatclub as it swings at his face.
Bevek's crumpled body lays on the ground, twitching, blood pooling.
The half-orc cultist move forward and glowers at Brewslee while waving his hands in a whirl of magic and negative energy. Brewslee hears the man yell I am Fel Bustrani! Leader of this glorious Zyphan revolution! FLEE MORTAL! and he feels overcome by magic clouding his mind.
Will Save; Fear Effect
The ogre zombie lumbers towards Mu and lashes out with his greatclub at the tiny, old man. The savage blow slams into the cave wall next to Mu, causing a large crater in the rock.

Will save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Whether it is the alcohol or he is just not afraid Brewslee shakes the overwhelming sense to flee though the man still unnerves him quite a bit.
Inching forward he wants to stay away from Fel for now and slices at the undead ogre, striking the wall instead.
Guirsame: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 5 - 2 = 6
Gob Master of Greed |
Gob moves into position to get a clear shot on the undead Ogre. With a few hand gestures mixed with some arcane words he fires off a stream of fire at the undead monstrosity.
Scorching Ray: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
damage: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 3, 4, 3) = 13
His bat Gir takes wing from Brewslee's shoulder and flies around the back side of the column to land on his masters shoulder.
"I'm pretty much out of ranged attacks that can hurt this thing now." He says to Shu.
Old Shu |
Actually, Shu's vanishing trick keeps him invisible for 3 rounds, so Malachite couldn't have "followed" him anywhere. But that's probably good because one hit from that ogre might kill him.
Shu's voice comes from the air nearby. "Malachite, sounds like someone got smacked good. Go make sure he not dead."
He then advances on the ogre zombie and ignites his innate talent and hurls a ball of flame into its face.

Malachite Stoneheart |
With instructions to go check on the fallen hero, Malachite starts out around the passage to the north, only to be called back by Gob, who can actually help the wounded Bevek.
Still confused again by conflicting directions, Malachite sighs audibly, staying out of the fight again this round. He stays on the lookout for the familiar of the half-orc at any moment.
GM Bold Strider |
@Mu: Why did you make a Will Save?
Gob and Shu power up their potent fire blasts to deal with the ogre zombie, searing through the zombie stomach, leaving a gaping hole.
Mu leaps over a giant swing of the zombie's club and avoids a heavy chop from the cleric's pickaxe. His fist, however, bounces off of the full plate under the cleric's tabard.
Brewslee slashes at the ogre will standing over the dying Bevek. His worry for his compatriot leaves his attack too defensive, thus it falls short of striking the zombie.
Malachite hesitates once more, losing yet another round in the melee.
Fel Bustrani envelops her hand in dark energy while fending off attacks from Mu and shoves it deep into his zombie pet.

AC is 26 (30 vs giants, which I think the Ogre still qualifies as.)
Malachite Stoneheart |
Based on the blows smashing his teammates to bits, Malachite swallows hard reaching for a potion of Barkskin to strenghten his naturally stone-like exterior. He downs the potion and grips the Temple Sword ready to enter melee against the ogre zombie next round.
Move Action to grab potion, SA to drink. Moves AC to 22. One hit like those above, and Mal will be outright killed not just unconscious, so hope the GM's dice roller cools off a bit...
GM Bold Strider |
@Shu: Ogre has the Giant subtype, so that makes sense.
I will let anyone retcon an action as Bevek is one failed Constitution check from dying, in case you weren't aware.
Mu misses with his first swing of his Sansekuton, but nails the cleric in the neck with the second swing of his three-section staff. The cleric vitriolically spits back at the old man. You will be the first zombie I raise, you half-mummified corpse!
Shu burns through the zombies side once more with another charge of Produce Flame.
Malachite drinks a potion of Barkskin, feeling his rock-hard flesh becoming reinforced with strong oak.

Can't do anything for Bevek. Shu's not aware how badly he's wounded, but I asked Malachite to check on him. Gob went instead - hopefully he can get him with that wand (or a potion) before it's too late.

Since there was some issues with the surprise round, I feel loathe to kill off Bevek for communication error that could be easily resolved at a table.
Bevek is on the verge of death and a bright light shines down from the dank ceiling on his cracked and broken form. He feels the light in his subconscious staving off the spectre of death.
How is that light intruding upon the domain of Zyphus!? WE HAVE CLAIMED THIS LAND! BEGONE CRONES OF THE LIGHT! DOES SERENRAE ONLY EMPLOY THE AGED?! He casts another spell and seems to heal the ogre zombie.

Malachite can't use the IH wand without a UMD check, and since he has no skill ranks in it, he can't make the check. I thought Gob was going to get him per his comment above, if you'll allow it, I will forgo the Barkskin and have moved to his side anyway last round.
retcon Heal, untrained: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Unfortnuately, neither of these rolls are enough to stabilize the poor fellow. Hopefully Gob gets there in time...

Malachite, it looks like Bevek's ok for now and Gob will heal him this round. It looks like you have a potion of cure light wounds. Can you give it to Brewslee?
Malachite Stoneheart |
Let Gob heal him. I think we might need you in this fight soon. Do you have any ranged weapons? Maybe alchemist fire?
Mal has 2 javelins (useless against the zombie) and 2 alchemist's fires. He'll throw bomb next round per your suggestion. Sucks to be a level 1 PC in a mid-tier game sometimes.
Malachite Stoneheart |
Uh, okay...guess I'm confused about the actions since it sounded like Belek needed healing, but here goes the die roll. Not sure if fire dmg hurts zombies either...
Thrown Alchemist's Fire, ranged touch, range increment: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 - 2 = 15

Gob Master of Greed |
unless someone is kind enough to move me next to Bevek I will move my token later.
Gob moves next to Bevek and delivers the infernal healing he just finushed casting. He will then start casting another one for Brewslee.

Thanks for the allowance. Ironic thing is, he has the Sacred Touch trait. Anyone else, he could have helped. Himself, not so much.

Malachite's Alchemist Fire explodes on the giant ogre zombie, setting it alight. Some of the napalm splashes onto Fel Bustrani, causing him to curse in pain.
Shu burns through the zombie for the third time with his innate gift, while Gob casts Infernal Healing on Bevek. The arcane caster moves to heal Brewslee as well as his blood continues to flow out of his body.
Brewslee-Stabilize Check: 1d20 + 2 - 6 ⇒ (4) + 2 - 6 = 0
