The attack has been successfully repulsed through the aid of the Pathfinders. The last few Taer run back toward their mountain encampments and the remnants of the waystation are mostly salvaged. Rysam approaches the party after tending to some of the more wounded defenders with some healing magic.
Your timing is impeccable, but it looks as if you are short a few members. I take it the Dragon was not kind to your venture. We are all indebted to you. If there is anything we can do, please let us know. You are free to stay here as long as you'd like. A snivelling man taps Rysam on the shoulder.
Rysam, we lost 20 men to the Taer raid and half of the building is burned. However, the mess hall and barracks were spared most of the serious damage. We should be up and running in a few days. The man looks over a few papers. I sent Gresh, Stag and Bolivar down the mountain to obtain supplies.
Rysam seems a bit perturbed. Krysher, those are our strongest warriors. Surely there are others who can be used for a supply mission...
Krysher shrugs. I can call them back, if you'd like...
Rysam thinks for a second before responding. It's fine. The Taer shouldn't be able to regroup for at least a fortnight and they should return in a week's time. Next time, check with me however.
The Pathfinders sense no lost love between these two.
From his fighting style during the melee, his ornate longbow and the magicks used by him to heal the wounded, Omrax can tell that Rysam is a high-level Cleric of Erastil. He might be able to resurrect the dead or lead you to someone who can.
Quiven and Eli'thir assist with moving the dead defenders for a funerary pyre.
You were given explicit instructions to wait at or near the waystation until Osprey arrives to collect the bones. You were not given an estimated time of arrival, but you can ask Rysam to attempt to contact Osprey.

Omrax bows and salutes the high priest.
"Lord Rysam. It is an honor to serve. Alas, We lost three brave men on our assault of the dragon. An ice wyrm of some sort destroyed Sir Blaine, Sir Fredrick and Sir Lem in a span of a few seconds. We were overmatched and only by the guidance of the Inheritor, we were able to escape. Would you be willing and able to revive our friends to fight another day? We can probably pull together the funds for the ceremony to Erastil, Old Deadeye. Without them, our chances are greatly diminished for the next mission to succeed."

"Not all of the men died to taer claws. See here, these small punctures in their skin?"
Eli'thir beckons over Lord Rysam and Omrax and indicates his discovery.
Any arrows or daggers about? Or is it apparent if it is a manufactured weapon versus a natural weapon like fangs?
Eli'thir uses his own wand to tend his latest injuries (down 9hp).
CLW Wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Realizing that Omrax hasn't proposed contacting Osprey, Eli'thir wastes little time suggesting that course of action.
"Lord Rysam. Would you be able to contact Osprey and inform him that despite our losses, we were successful in our mission?"
| GM Bold Strider |
Rysam listens to Omrax's request. I would be more than happy to perform such a task for the outpost's saviors. We will start at dawn. I have a compatriot in the woods to the south who will be able to procure the diamonds we will need for the rituals, however I will need their remains of your three compatriots and enough gear to trade for the gems.
@Eli'thir: It is just apparent that it is not traditional taer wounds (slashing claws, short spears or vicious bites). You are unsure if it is manufactured or natural and what may have caused it.
Eli'thir searches for anything out of the ordinary, but there are arrows and daggers about as well as other weapons. They appear to be from the recent battle and nothing seems amiss (such as a dagger in the back).
Rysam and Omrax approach Eli'thir and listen to his information about the wounds. Curious, but I can do little about it, especially with the request made by your friend. I must make haste to the south. I will send word to Osprey that you have recovered the bones. Knowing that guy, he will be here in a few weeks or, hell, months, depending on his fancy.
---------------------------------------------------------------
An hour later, after readying a dog sled and some gear, Rysam gathers the remaining Pathfinders. Keep watch over the place. If your implications have merit, then we must be watchful. I will be back in the morning. Meet me one mile south of the outpost to conduct the ritual. It will be better if no one knows of your compatriots demise if there are traitors about.
Rysam whistles and hawk descends from the sky. He attaches a paper note to its ankle before releasing it into the sky. It will take a week or so for the message to reach Osprey. Take care, friends.
Rysam grabs the Lem's backpack, filled with coin and magic goods, and secures it to the sled before taking off.
---------------------------------------------------------------
You have a day to recover and investigate, if you wish.

I enough gold for a raise dead and a restoration (assuming just the material component cost). I can only benefit from one restoration per week anyways. So I will be at one negative level. Should not be a big issue.
Quiven Glist
|
Quiven will help with getting his companions raised in any way he can. He'll then try to mingle with as many people at the camp as he can, trying to gather information, sense their mood, or find out anything important.
| GM Bold Strider |
Quiven finds out that most of the stronger warriors at the outpost were either killed in the battle or have been sent on missions recently. The Taer attacks on the outpost have become more frequent, but this was to most deadly. There seemed to be many tribes unified in the attack, whereas before it was usually two tribes at the most, likely trying to expand their hunting grounds.
Elithir
|
I'm imagining we don't need to tackle the hassle of watches/etc as there's nothing specific that will happen as we rest?
Eli watches as Rysam rides off into the distance, laden with a significant portion of the deceased Pathfinders' wealth, confident that the man could be trusted.
He steps over to Omrax and Quiven to speak in private.
"Rysam mentioned something about traitors. I find the thought curious. We should be vigilant until our meeting tomorrow, and do our best to stay together."
Omrax the Bold
|
Omrax nods in agreement.
"Good work. It is essential to know the character of the people we deal with. I will not tolerate vile influences in our negotiations. I may be able to determine if any exists in the town by observations."
Given the opportunity during the day while waiting for the return of Rysam, Omrax will detect evil in general populace of the fort, trying to see if any spies are hiding in our midst.
| GM Bold Strider |
Omrax will detect evil and find that about half of the remaining population is evil (10-12 people), but there are no significant evil auras to denote clerics or antipaladins. Oddly enough, Krysher, Rysam's assistant, pings as evil as well as Gerrard the cook and a guard named Plynth.
Omrax will also remember that this is an outpost where Pathfinders are sent for reasons of isolation from the general population and just detecting as evil may not be conclusive evidence to attack or arrest anyone.
Quiven Glist
|
Quiven will see about keeping an eye on Krysher to see if he is up to anything he shouldn't be doing. Taking 10 or 20 as I can for stealth, gather info, and whatever other stealthy skills are needed.
Omrax the Bold
|
Omrax will quietly share his concerns about some of the populace with the party.
Just so I am clear, did the cleric leave with just the treasure for the ceremony or did he also take the bodies? I am assuming we still have those three here under gentle repose or something, but I was not sure. I want to make sure if we need to set a guard or anything.
Omrax will try to pick out a few of the locals that he thinks he can trust and ask them to let him know if they hear of any suspicious activities the next few days.
Elithir
|
Eli'thir arches an eyebrow at the mention of detecting many evil auras on the man about the camp.
"Fascinating."
He tightens the straps on his alchemical wares, coin purse and backpack as he observes warily from a distance as the men continue their repairs.
"Perhaps we should consider camping outside of the town this night until our friends are taken care of on the morrow, and then return as a single team."
He sighs, letting his breath become clearly visible in the chill air.
"Just in case."
| GM Bold Strider |
You still have the bodies, since there was no mention of you wanting to give them to Rysam.
Quiven will notice that Krysher goes about his business and meets with nearly everyone left in the camp several times over the course of the evening.
What are you doing for the night?
Omrax the Bold

Wow. Did not expect to hit that.
Omrax will draw close to the other two and share his observation.
"Strange business afoot this evening. More than expected at this hour. Unless one of you wants to investigate, I suggest we take rest while we can, in the temple with our fallen brethren. I can stand the first watch if you two want to rest."
Elithir
|
Eli'thir sets up camp for the Pathfinders (not sure if we have a room in a cabin or something, I imagine we have something indoor given the location?), ignorant of any goings-on that may be transpiring.
I imagine we'd still set up some sort of watch just in case the taer return. Probably 3 watches, Eli will take first, Quiven will take middle, Omrax will take morning. Unless something else goes on, but I don't think we want to rock the boat if we know our companions are being raised the next morning.

The party rests for the night, taking watch in their assigned section of the barracks. The evening passes uneventfully and the party gears up to head out to meet Rysam.
Krysher flags down the Pathfinders. Since you are going to meet Rysam, take these notes to him. He will know what they mean. The words seem unintelligible. Krysher moves off, seemingly with a purpose, back to the barracks. Alright you lazy as...
The voices fade as Quiven and Omrax lead two dog sleds out to the preordained meeting location. (See Map)
A voice hails you from under an extremely large pine tree whose lower limbs have been stripped, leaving an welcoming overhang. Rysam sits on a flat granite stone that stands out as having been placed at this location.
Rysam notices Eli'thir looking over his seat. This was a Taer sacrificial altar, but once we pushed them northwards, I consecrated the area in the name of Erastil. Omrax can detect a holy aura here.
Rysam claps his hands together and stands up, pulling a small velvet pouch from his pack. Let's do this, shall we? He begins placing small diamonds at key directional points on the large slab. Place the bodies on the slab with their heads facing northward.
Eli'thir and Omrax pull the remains of Blaine and Fredrik from their packs and lay them out as instructed.

As the party helps Rysam prepare for the ritual, everyone hears the crunching of snow behind them. They turn to see seven men and one woman. The woman laughs before speaking. It looks as though we meet again Rysam. Today you won't be so lucky as to escape before feeling my wrath... Also, poor Pathfinders, I'm going to need those bones. My... superiors seem to want them for some reason. She waves her hands and recites a shadowy verse. A dagger appears in the air before her bathed in darkness.
Rysam mutters before yelling to the party. Ephys... Pathfinders! Protect me while I raise your friends!

I double-checked my math. You should be at 50 HP. Full Health -> Charge (12 damage) to 54 HP -> Spontaneous (5 HP) for 59 HP -> AoO (11 damage) for 48 HP -> Channel (13 HP) for 61 HP -> Pick to the face (11 damage) for 50 HP
Eli'thir's bomb kills the musher outright as the man's charred corpse drops his heavy pick to the ground.
Reflex Save @ Musher: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
The last remaining musher fails to avoid the flaming ball of fire and suffers a severe burn across his face.
