@Artemus: Not quite, more like a somewhat prepared action. Not readied, but an opening move if you will.
@Faeros: Kn: Local! And yes, no LoS from your starting position; moved you into the corner!
GM BPChocobo TK2 |
"Baslet, warn the others!", the man shouts as he prepares another spell...
Concentration: 1d20 + 8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 8 + 4 = 13
However, Thunderstealer's rapid approach is enough of a distraction for him to bumble the spell as Thunderstealer smacks him!
Assuming that him casting another spell is enough to trigger your Readied action
He was trying to cast Glitterdust

And down comes the Thunderstealer hammer chopper!
"You... you injured me!", the blue man almost indignant that he was struck.
And I missed the spoiler for it earlier I think; so a freebie: the blue man is an undine
Artemus Jarm |
First I move Thunnderstealer up to be adjacent to the Undine. Next I gotta do something here...
Unable to identify the spell Thunderstealer spoiled and fearing that mephit will indeed try to run and get help for its friend Artemus acts, summoning a Fiendish Augmented Crock to attack and maybe hold it. The crock, true to its nature tries to smite the small creature when it attacks. But I doubt the mephit is good.

OK. My mistake. But I have seen you claw and bite... You even have bite listed as an attack on your character sheet. Do not give me grief when I was only trying t help.
I have to go in dino-attack mode to be able to do claws and bites. I have done this previous adventures (vs the Gibbering Mouther and the final battle vs Troglodites, so the 'I'm not an animal' was a joke. Default I attack with a horsechopper though)
GM BPChocobo TK2 |
The crocodile manages to land a bite on the mephit, holding it in place!
In retaliation, it lets out a caustic cone of acidic spray that splashes on Thunderstealer, Nilfyr, and the croc!
Croc Reflex vs DC 13: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Nilfyr Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Thunderstealer: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Acid damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1
However, the croc's squeezes during the blast, cutting the acid off after only a minor dosage is spewed.

Enlarged the crocodile as it's supposed to be large, unless there's I'm missing something that you can alter the size of a summoned monster.
Nilfyr narrowly trips the man, him landing on his side with a thud!
The crab thing then goes all out, snapping at Nilfyr before biting him!

Hmm my post got deleted somehow
Faeros readies an action to shoot him if he stands up or casts.
Give up He instructs, and stay down!
GM BPChocobo TK2 |
As usual, a quick and decisive combat for the party!
With a pair of timed blows from Belcher and Thunderstealer down the undine, also causing the crab-like creature to wink out of existence. Faeros's instructions is more than enough to get the mephit to raise his arms up in defeat... well, as much as it can with its leg caught by the crocodile.
"I give! I give! Spare me, dry ones!"
Artemus Jarm |
Artemus bravely comes back into the room and casts Detect Magic. He has the crock guard the stairs while the group talks to the mephit.
We had no desire to hurt you or this one. he says. Is this your friend or master? the arcanist asks as he looks over the blue man and his possessions.
Nilfyr Starshadow |
Nilfyr takes a wand out of his belt pouch, taps himself several times with it, then returns it.

Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
If the mephit did 1 point of damage, and we saved, wouldn't that mean the 1 point becomes nonlethal?
GM BPChocobo TK2 |
Huh... I don't know. I think I'm going to say no in this case since it's energy damage and not physical. I'll look that up later!
"Not master, but not friend, either. The undines are a lot more likeable than you folk!"
The summoner's possessions are:
-potion of cure serious wounds
-scroll of aqueous orb
-scroll of invisibility
-ring of protection +1
-6 pearls, one larger than the other
-an antitoxin
-several flasks and glass bottles,
-crossbow with 10 masterwork quality bolts
-a journal
Artemus Jarm |
Any of those pearls magic? Any of those flasks and bottles? I figure you would have told me if so but I have to ask. Summoners can't use pearls of power so that dashes that hope. :)
We only wanted to talk to the undine but he started attacking us. We had to defend ourselves. We can heal your wound if you like. I am sorry you were bitten but until we knew more about you it seemed prudent to prevent you from running off and bringing back others to fight us when we did not specifically want to fight. Better to talk to you now than try to calm down a lot of angry creatures. What can you tell us of this one? He indicates the undine. And of this place?
GM BPChocobo TK2 |
Huh, I thought I had typed that the summoner's breath was more relaxed as he stopped bleeding internally. But to answer your question, yes.
Nope, the loot is as stated. I figured with the party the spellcrafts would be passed, so just gave the info on the few magical items there.
The mephit looks less worried about his wound as it has mostly healed up.
"I don't know what they're up to; they've been in talks with some of the dryfolk down below."
Looking at the party, Baslet shakes his head. "You lot are going to have a hard time navigating this place and most of the others are on edge, too."
Artemus Jarm |
Why would that be? And what has the others on edge? Hmm. Perhaps you would consent to be our guide and advocate? I would be pleased to reward you in some way if I can. If the others are on edge perhaps there is a problem we can help remedy. Artemus arms himself with the scrolls and then picks up the journal and begins reading through it.
GM BPChocobo TK2 |
I'll need a REALLY good Diplomacy check for either of those requests!
GM BPChocobo TK2 |
Not good enough from you two, but I'll count those as aids if Faeros or Nilfyr want to step in. The DC is pretty high since this will count as dangerous aid, minus a bit for some aforementioned reasons.
GM BPChocobo TK2 |
In that case, it'll take a Nat 20 from either one of them to convince Baslet to help the party out as requested.
GM BPChocobo TK2 |
"Can't do that. I'm not going to make it easier for you to kill my brethren nor watch you fight them. This is the best I'll do for you.", the mephit's eyes bulging out as then horks out a crude looking pearl. "It's my gallstone. You can show it to the other water elementals in this area and if you're quick about it and good with your words, you may be able to convince them to not drown you. No promises though; it took a while for the undine researchers to gain their trust."
The stone, although a bit smelly, will allow a Diplomacy check as a standard action to turn a hostile water elemental to indifferent. Usable once per elemental only for those on this floor.
Artemus Jarm |
If the DC is too high it will be useless to this group though.
OK. Art says accepting the pearl. I understand. But I hope I can trust you to at least tell the truth when you tell what happened. That we tried to talk with the undine and he began casting spells first on his group and then attacks on us. I can tell you he was attempting to blind us when my friend here was forced to disrupt his spell. And even though we were met with hostility the undine still lives and we will not kill him. On top of that we are giving you your freedom with no strings attached even though you too were going to attack us. He has the crock move out of the way so that the mephit may pass if and when it chooses to do so. Oh, can you tell us if this entire level is flooded and will we need some way to breath underwater to explore it all?
GM BPChocobo TK2 |
Not necessarily, I'm going to assign different DCs to different elementals.
"Not all of it, although there will be a few spots where it'll be good for you to swim."
Baslet ponders, then a bit of inspiration comes upon his face. "Klarkosh. That's who the undines fear and the elementals are annoyed by. He claims dominion of these halls, although another group was trying to convince the undines to join their side. Mention you're here to remove Klarkosh and it may aid you talking to some of the others."
GM BPChocobo TK2 |
Holiday season! Gadzooks! Actually, I was trying to focus on another PbP to try and get it done before the end of the gameday. Sadly, I missed it v_v
Baslet looks to see if the party will accept the information he provided as his willing support.
Artemus Jarm |
Yes, at least from Art. He accepted it when he had the crock move out of the way.
Goodbye watery one. I hope we can meet again on more friendly terms. Art turns to the others and recommends I am not as prepared as I would like to be do handle a flooded level. I recommend we go back to town where we can purchase some scrolls to help us swim and deal with a watery environment. We can also give this blue guy over the the Hellknights for attacking us. Thoughts?
We can pick up some spells like Air Bubble and Touch of the Sea. Art cannot cast third level spells yet so Water Breathing with its desirable duration is out of his reach, thought our druid should be able to get it if he desires.
GM BPChocobo TK2 |
If you all want to head back to properly prepare yourselves, that is an option.
Thankful, the mephit heads upstairs, making his way out of the dungeon.
