Nilfyr swings his fauchard at the prone troglodyte, trying to finish it quickly.

If any other troglodytes make it through the doorway, Nilfyr will trip them.

So he is Thunderstealer! My bad for forgetting to offer you the AoO!
The blue-scaled troglodyte is having a bad day after he is tripped by Nilfyr and cut by Thunderstealer. Belcher then turns him into a mist of scales and blood with a savage mauling that would churn the party's stomach had it not been for Thunderstealer's previous magic.

@Artemus: The blast of sparkles blinds both of the troglodytes who howl out in confusion.
@Nilfyr: Do you wish to redirect your attacks to white?
@Faeros: A pair of blind trogs will make easy pickings; White anyway. The other will have a partial cover bonus.
Faeros up, need a response from Artemus
Faeros89 |
Faeros seizes the great opportunity to fire twice at a blind trog whilst benefiting from coordinated shot but not suffering cover penalties!

Faeros takes out the other troglodyte leader. The sound of the thud is enough to cause worry to the other one in the room even though he could not see his fallen leader's body.
Nilfyr then fells the last one in the room.
There are three more regular troglodytes coming... but they will die horrible, horrible deaths without putting up much of a fight, so I am handwaving that.
Only a minute later, the halls are now quiet as all of the troglodytes have been defeated in a bloody conflict with the party.
The only thing that remains is the Godbox.

Not sure what response you needed from Art? He would delay with both enemies blinded if it was his turn.

Keep all metal away from that box! Artemus warns. And lets try to get some of those doors off their hinges. Did you notice that those slots are about the same size as the doors. lets plug them in and see what happens.
Nilfyr Starshadow |
Seems largely moot now. :-)
Nilfyr nods at Artemus and begins the process of attempting to wrest a door from its hinges.

Faeros will stay alert and provide cover while the stronger party members pull doors. If requested, he will try to assist. (str mod +2)
GM BPChocobo TK2 |
With a single pull, Nilfyr realizes that he cannot do it alone. With Faeros' help, though, they together can move the large, half-ton metal door towards the Godbox room.
The doors are unusual that you a total combined Strength score or 27 to lift and move. Yes, this means that even Artemus and Thunderstealer could move a door; I like mentally painting that picture.
Any preparations for Faeros/Nilfyr before trying to insert the door into one of the paneled slots? This includes removal of metal objects.
GM BPChocobo TK2 |
I'll assume Nilfyr does something of the same
It takes some time and finagling, but Faeros and Nilfyr manage to get the door onto the Godbox. It clicks into place and a strange, high-pitched humming begins to emanate from deep within the contraption.
What does the party do now?
Artemus Jarm |
Right. We fill slots til we run out of slots or doors. :) With each we try to remove weapons and other items that are stuck to it. I guess we could be making the thing more powerful, but this is all I know to do.
GM BPChocobo TK2 |
The magical items (actually, all of the items) are not within the panel slots. How convenient!
It takes better part of a half an hour, but the party manages to insert all of the door panels into the machine. As the last one latches on, the humming stops and all of the metal objects fall to the floor with a loud clatter. Furthermore, the green glowing panels are now dull, leaning the entire floor in a blanket of darkness.
Anybody got a light? :P
Looking through the treasures, the party finds:
Weapons: 2 battleaxes, 11 daggers, a masterwork cold iron dagger, a greatsword, a +1 greatsword, a heavy mace, 3 light maces, 2 light hammers, 4 short swords, 2 starknives, 3 throwing axes, and 3 warhammers.
Armor: 2 suits of chainmail, a suit of +1 chainmail, a suit of half-plate, 1 splint mail, 5 heavy steel shields, a +1 heavy steel shield, 4 light shields, and a +1 light steel shield
Other: 7 crowbars, 3 grappling hooks, 2 iron holy symbols (one of Desna, the other Gorum), 4 mirrors, 20 pitons, a set of thieves tools (with a brooch of shielding tucked inside with the tools), 17 belt buckles, and 6 lanterns.
Artemus Jarm |
Jackpot!
Artemus looks over the armor and weapons, helping to identify them, but not pleased that none appeal to his vocation. For now he does claim the MW cold iron dagger. He is happy to find the brooch of shielding and tries to identify if it has been used at all. I might claim this if that is ok with the group.
Er, are we done with the level?

Almost just need to walk to the exit to be 'finished' :)

GM BPChocobo TK2 |
I assumed you guys would have, my bad for not noting that. There is no other treasure. Although I did miss one thing of minor interest!
As they party explores before checking the presumed exit, they find a strange rune near the Spire column, the only source of illumination in the chamber.
The rune is the Azlanti symbol for 'four'. This should work with the spire token found earlier.

What a neat symbol...shall we take a rubbing of it in case somebody back in town can tell us about it later?

Hey guys, sorry chronicles aren't out yet. Feel feel free to level up if you haven't yet, gold will be about 4,800 for those with full credit, half that otherwise. I'll have chronicles out tomorrow and we'll start the 5th floor by Monday at the latest.
GM BPChocobo TK2 |
I'll say after this next floor. I'll confirm that when I review the next couple of floors.
GM BPChocobo TK2 |
Bah, realized I didn't answer your first question: no, no knowledge of the 5th floor.
With the party's entrance to the next level secured, they take their loot and transfer it to more appropriate means ie, selling everything which becomes the gold amount on your chronicle sheet.
With the Splinters gone, commerce within Fort Inevitable has increased. The variety of goods has slowly become more varied, and life has become a bit easier, at least for what a town ruled be Hellknights could be. New gear in hand, the party makes their way once more into the Spire.
Down from the deactivated Godbox floor, the sounds of trickling, sloshing water can be heard.
The ramp winding down from the level above ends in a flight of stairs leading to a dank, low-ceilinged room. The curved surface of the Emerald Spire takes up the northwest corner, and to the east is a broad stairway leading down to a dark passage from which the soft sound of lapping of water emanates. A small, closed door stands in the south wall. Several toad-sized crabs skitter about.
Standing near the spire core is a man with blue skin, finishing the hum of an incantation before scribbling notes in a journal. Next to him is a grotesque-four legged crab that has a small, blue, winged creature on its back.
The spell the man was casting was detect magic.
There's a glowing rune on both the crab and the man.
The man must be a summoner and the crab its eidolon.
The small blue winged creature is a water mephit.
Map renamed and updated!

Seeing and recognizing the caster for what he is Artemus greets him in a friendly tone.
Well met Summoner. Are you an adventurer and do you plan to journey below? If he receives at least a non-hostile response he will introduce himself and his friends, explaining that the group had cleared the level above and would like to explore this level of the spire.
GM BPChocobo TK2 |
The man, barely turning his head to acknowledge the party, answers back tersely in Aquan.
"Begone. Your presence is interrupting my research."
He pauses briefly, awaiting the party's response.
Faeros89 |
Faeros digs around in his gear looking for something this creature might want. After failing to find such a thing, he suggests that perhaps we can trade something for information and passage.
What might this creature value?
GM BPChocobo TK2 |
Despite looking busy at the column, the man seems to be keeping one ear towards the party, as if he is listening in.

Artemus addresses the summoner.
I am Artemus Jarm, a scholar and student of the arcane. It is possible that I and my friends could be of assistance to you. Since we are not going to leave right away perhaps we could talk some and you could explain both your reason for this research and why you think you have the right to send us away. It is evident to me that you at least understand common so I would ask that you respond in that language.[/b]
GM BPChocobo TK2 |
The man sighs, throwing his journal to the ground in frustration. He retorts in Common now. "I told you to leave and your constant henpecking is ruining my concentration!", he calls out before casting a spell.
He just cast haste.

Not sure whether I can see him from here based on that black line above my character which is probably a wall. If I can see him: Study, then attack. Otherwise: Move to the open square in the corner, then study.
