sense motive: 1d20 ⇒ 11
"Yeah, I am with him" Fandral gestures toward Burngar, "Not my fight"
Clandelve Hammerhand |
Though Clandelve isn't so sure this will turn ugly, on Floggentop's prodding he steps to the front of the group.
"Go home ur yoo're gonnae have tae deal wi' mah hammer!" he bellows.

GM Aarvid |
Several ruffians encircle a dwarf and physically jostle him between them. The dwarf is young, just barely out of adolescence.
As Clandelve steps forward, they stop harassing the young dwarf and quickly determine his hammer is more than they want to tangle with at this point.
Aw, we were just having a bit of fun, weren't we Andar?
But the thugs quickly run off into the crowd or alleys away from the party before you get closer.
The young dwarf catches his breath, then looks to Clandelve. They were just picking on me, until you guys showed up and scared 'em off. Thank you. They pick of people, they don't care who.
he starts to talk about the bullying he suffered last week, then stops and goes back to his first thought.
So, are you guys adventurers? I always wanted to grow up and be one. Where have you guys been. What are you doing here? Can I touch carry your hammer?
He rambles question after question. You can tell he is enamored by you.
Floggentop Wizzbottle III |
Wizzy makes a Sssshhh gesture with his hand..
"Adventurers? Yes, but we do not like to advertise so please keep your voice down.. Now why are you out here alone if you are being picked on? Where do you stay so we may escort you home?"
Garret C. |
sense motive: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25
Come here boy
Once the young dwarf is near he starts whispering As my friend had confirmed we're adventurers, but we don't like to advertise ourselves. Look, I even had disguised my armor, [b]he let the youg dwarf touch his sleeve and notiev its harder than it should be. [b]I'll tell you where I've been, but in exchange I want your name and being allowed to escort you to your home.
I started as a humble caravan guard travelling wherever I was payed being it Varisia or the Velasmani Jungle, but my best travels were once I've become an adventurer; exploring mazes hidden under Absalom and travelling so far as Ustalav, Mendev and Mwangi to discover its wonders. Did you ever though of shadow folk living in Ustalav? I talked with one of them. And Mwangi, there are even kobold tribes that worship a dragon. NO, I didn't fight a dragon, I parley with him! Garret continues amazing the dwarf with his journeys to improve his opinion of them and being allowed to escort him to safety.
diplomacy: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27
GM Aarvid |
WOW! I mean 'wow' Thanks for everything. You guys are the best!
He faces Wizzy and Garret..with a slight bow.
Oh, sorry, my name is Andar Jor and I hope to be an adven...I mean traveler like you someday! I currently live with my Aunt.
You are more than welcome to come. I can tell her all about...ok maybe not say anything, but you are still welcome.
It is quite obvious he is very excited and Garret detects no duplicity in him.
GM Aarvid |
Follow me if you want. I can take you there. The dwarf smiles and heads off down the street.
The dockside area of the Fleshward is littered with seedy inns and rundown taverns, catering to city’s rough, downtrodden, and undesirables. The Silver Lining stands out as a cut above these other establishments. Not one of its windows is broken, its door sits square on well-fitted hinges, and its front sign proudly displays a fresh coat of paint. The patrons within are a quiet lot, mostly dwarves, and a few humans. A dwarven woman tends bar, where she does a brisk business in porters and stouts.
The dwaven woman eyes you with suspicion, but seeing Andar she smiles and he face goes to concern. Andar, are you ok? Did you get into some trouble again?
Floggentop Wizzbottle III |
Wizzy interjects before the boy can respond.. "Ah yes, the boy was being harrassed by some other youths, but a quick warning from Clandelve over there sent them on their way.. It was quite fortuious for both parties really as we were coming here to speak with you as well. That is if you have a moment of time?"
Take 10 Dip for a 31
Fandral |
"Almorst, he was a little out numbered, until my friend stepped in," he pats Clandelve on the shoulder, "I am Fandral Devinwood, a pleasure to meet you."
Clandelve Hammerhand |
Clandelve discusses the pros and cons of adventuring with the dwarven lad as they travel to his aunt's house, and he especially makes a point of the hard work that will be required to be ready.
Once they reach the aunt's house, Clandelve says "Andar has a lot ay grit. He knows hoo tae handle himself, but he was ootnumbered sae we stepped in."
Burngar Rockhard |
Burngar clearly feels left out by the interaction and thrusts his hand out to the Dwarven woman, "Ha! Ya should have seen Clandelve make sure the ruffians left your nephew alone! Ha! I am Burngar Rockhard, and I'd love to say that this meeting was entirely by accident, but providence brought us together anyway! You see, we were hoping to talk to you, or rather Wizzy here was! Ha!" He points to the Gnome.
GM Aarvid |
Andar replies to the older dwarf woman.
Auntie, I was just trying to get more business to the tavern. These people helped me. Some thugs surrounded me, but the big half-orc scared them off with his muscles
She frowns as she turns back and addresses you.
Sorry folks for Andar, he is naive but he means well. So, what can I get ya?, she says with a slight note of distrust in her voice.
Drinks will be 1 silver apiece, as she still look at your group with suspicious eyes, especially once you say you were wanting to talk to her.
Floggentop Wizzbottle III |
Wizzy leans in closer, talking in a hush voice.. "You see we are here from the Society.. We've been sent here to speak with about a piece of the Sky Key. We have missives from the High Priest of Abadar, Miss Klygvauther and an alchemical solution from a one Vel delivered to you as proof of our trustworthiness.."
He hands over the two items..
"We cannot afford for the piece to fall into the hands of evil. Will you help us?"
Again take 10 for a 31 Diplomacy..
GM Aarvid |
With the two items and Wizzy's assurances, she seems convinced...barely.
Ingret looks you all over. She seems to be scrutinizing every movement you make, every word you speak. She seems to be studying everything you do, for she trusts nobody, let alone strangers that just walked into her bar.
After a few tense moments, she puts her fingers to her mouth and lets a shrill whistle flow. She barks in a very forceful tone, Everone else, OUT!!!
After a few more moments, the bar is clear, the only one remaining are you and Ingret and Andar. She reaches under the bar and grabs a lock-box, then under her apron and grabs a key. She opens, and puts a leather, very well worn journal on the top of the bar.
There it is, she says. It’s my great-grandpapa’s journal. He went looking for the heirloom that came from Jormurdun, carried here by our honored ancestor Prince Toggrim. I remember as a child sitting on great-grandpapa’s lap hearing him spin tales about going down to that ruin to see with his own eyes where our Toggrim hid that piece of the Sky Key. It’s all there in that journal. A map’s there, too, I think.
You MUST keep this a secret, speak of it to nobody.
---------------------
You gather to examine the journal, and after a few moments, you come to find out that the location of the Sky Key component lies a few short days from Chessed.
You don't have time to discuss much after that, as the doors to the bar are blown inward with a blast of such concussive force that your ears ring for a few seconds. You hear a nasally voice cry out.
Jor! Jor! I know you’re in there. The League is done playing games. Surrender your secrets or die with them!
Feel free to post any dialog or questions for her. I will be rolling initiative tomorrow as things are about to get interesting.
Burngar Rockhard |
Burngar's eyes go wide upon seeing the doors blast inward. He looks to Ingrit, "Ha! Lassie, do you have a back door? Does anybody have a Haversack or better!? Ha!"
He reaches up and unzips his coat just a little more, to ensure his navel has room to breathe in the ensuing combat. With a glint in his eyes he grips his enormous hammer with white knuckles ready for whatever comes.
Floggentop Wizzbottle III |
Prior to door blasting open:
Wizzy takes the journal.. "You have made a wise decison Miss Jorr, we shall make sure this is returned to you safely.." After doing the research Wizzy places it inside his haversack, along with The Thread of Silver.
Doors blown off:
"Quickly Ingret, take cover with Andar! We will take care of this!"
Fandral |
"Finally, I was waiting to get into some action....I mean, yeah take cover." Fandral smiles has his hand drops to the hilt of his cutlass.

=== Surprise Round ===
Ingret cries out.
The League, they are here!
Single action/move in surprise round. You all start at the bar (slide #3).
Keep in mind, you are in a city with citizens in the streets and the League is part of the local government.
At this point you cannot see anything/anyone yet through the door.
24-Blanchbeak <=== Can take action
21-Ingret, S
20-Garret
19-R
18-Clandelve, Floggentop
16-T
15-Fandral
8-N
5-Burgar
Blanchbeak, you can still cast SoF if you'd like.
GM Aarvid |
Blanchbeak casts a spell to boost his protections and steps towards the door.
The cloud of dust still obscures visibility to the speaker outside.
Ingret grabs a loaded crossbow from under the bar and steps back to the door with her nephew.
Keep it hidden! Keep it safe!" ;-)
You hear casting of a spell from outside the door by a female voice. The same voice then anxiously asks...Can I burn them out? Can I, please?
20-Garret <=== go!
19-R
GM Aarvid |
Garret is caught a bit off guard and delays momentarily.
A pair of walking metal golem-like machines walk into the bar, scanning the room. They both wield spears crackling with electricity.
Wizzy pulls out his Banner of Kings as he watches the creatures emerge.
18-Garret, Clandelve, Floggentop <===== Go!
Clandelve Hammerhand |
Clandelve scowls and moves toward the other side of the bar to provide some flanking.
"What would ye be wantin' here?" he asks, still not taking any hostile actions.
GM Aarvid |
GM Aarvid |
Clandelve calls out, but before anyone responds, you hear a couple of male voices say Ready, Sir!
15-Fandral, Garrett <=== Go
Fandral |
Fandral will also move closer to the door, blade in hand. Drew his blade as part of the initiative roll
He smirks towards Clandelve, not knowing if he is joking or not....
Garret C. |
Garret casts a bless to help is mates. Clandelve, they look more interested in burning us than in having a drink. Then he shouts to the exterior, Don't you prefer to talk before burning things? whatever you want can be turn to ashes if you try to burn us, did you realize that?
GM Aarvid |
Fandral, blade in hand, moves up while Garret invokes a divine blessing.
A voice calls back to Garret.
Who are you? We are here on official business. Do not interfere or you will be an accomplice charged with aiding criminal activities.
JOR! Last chance. We do not want to kill you. Give us what we want or more lives will be consumed!!!
You hear some casting outside the door through the dust cloud.
Burgar goes then the cloud of dust clears, allowing visibility to the outside street.
5-Burgar <== Go
Ingret shakes her head to indicate to your group she will not comply and hefts her crossbow, ready to shoot.
=== Round 2 ===
24-Blanchbeak, Ingret (readied) <== Go
19-R, S
18-Clandelve, Floggentop
16-T
15-Fandral, Garret
8-N
5-Burgar
Burngar Rockhard |
Burngar climbs up on the bar, moving to the end and standing even with the other taller humanoids in the party. He draws his mighty Dwarven Longhammer as he moves, hefting its weight back and forth between his right and left hand.
He bellows, "Ha! And we do not wish to die! Good sirs, what could you be looking for? All I see in here is beer! Ha!"
Climb: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
Move Action: 30' movement - By my count, that should be 30' with a 1/4 movement speed for the first square of climbing onto the counter.
Blanchbeak |
Blanchbeak moves around the table to pin an enemy between himself and Fandral, then takes a sweeping slash at the man.
Swift Bane (are the enemies all the same race?)
Standard Attack
Bastard Sword: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27 Cold Iron, Magic, Slashing: 1d10 + 2d6 + 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (9) + (5, 2) + (6) + 6 = 28 6 is precision damage
Bastard Sword (AoO): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24 Cold Iron, Magic, Slashing: 1d10 + 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + (3, 2) + 6 = 17 If anybody provokes from me while moving into the room. If they are not the same race as the creature I just attacked, subtract 2 attack and 2d6+2 damage.
GM Aarvid |
Burngar climbs the bar and bellows something about beer!
Blanchbeak tumbles forward to flank the walking automaton, but not before it takes a swing at him.
Aoo Spear, buff: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 10 + 1 = 28 for dmg: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 and electric: 1d6 ⇒ 2
but as good as its aim, the magical armor of the tengu is tougher.
This creature does not look human or even of flesh and blood. What BANE are you activiting?
I do not believe anyone has identified it yet.
Blanchbeak cuts into the metallic manikin and sparks and chunks of metal fly from the gash.
Warning! Warning! Under attack. Activate Defensive Measures Epsilon-6!
Ingret holds her crossbow at the ready, but steps closer to the door.
The sparking mannikin steps 5' and spins his sparking spear, stabbing once at Blanchbeak and another at Fandral. Neither connecting.
Spear, buff: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 10 + 1 = 26 for dmg: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10 and electric: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Spear, buff: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 10 + 1 = 16 for dmg: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 and electric: 1d6 ⇒ 1
GM Aarvid |
Another of the metallic creatures moves up and tries to stab Burngar.
AOO Burngar, if you desire
Warning! Dwarf on bartop. Not female. Attack pattern delta-3
Assuming it survives...
Spear, buff: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 10 + 1 = 24 for dmg: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 and electric: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Finally, you hear the female voice again outside the door.
Frag this mess! I am burning em out boss!
A small red bead of flame shoots through the doorway into the center of the room, and explodes into a ball of searing flame.
fire: 7d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 3, 3, 2, 6, 6) = 30 DC17 reflex for half damage.
FB hits Wizzie, Garret, Fandral and Clandelve
Papers and tables start to burn, as Ingret gasps seeing her bar burning.
18-Clandelve, Floggentop <-- can go!
BURNGAR ROCKHARD! |
Burngar roars, "HA! I SAID, ALL THAT'S HERE IS BEER!"
You see Burngar stand tall, his eyes grow wild and his muscles seem to tense and grow under the thick mat he calls body hair. He swings his enormous hammer in a wide arc.
Free Action: Rage
Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33 Damage (Adamantine, Bludgeoning): 2d6 + 18 ⇒ (3, 1) + 18 = 22
GM Aarvid |
Burngar rages and slams his long hammer on the creature, breaking off bits of metal and exposed wiring.
The metal creature steps forward and returns with a stab of sparking spear.
Garret C. |
Knowledge technology looks the most probable. At least it will be if that knowledge exists
reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Garret puts his shield in the path of the flames stopping some of them to reach her flesh. But that's not enough to stop all.
Burngar Rockhard |
Depending, it's likely either Kn(Arcana) or Kn(Engineering).
-Posted with Wayfinder
Fandral |
reflex: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27
With ease Fandral dodges most of the flames....
Floggentop Wizzbottle III |
Is this a surprise round or round 1?
Reflex: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
"Yikes! That stings!"
If surprise..
Wizzy pulls out his Banner on Ancient Kings stirring feelings of pride and steadfastness among the group!
Move Action, +2 Morale hit/dam/charm saves, +2 Resist vs mind affecting
If it is 1st round add the following..
"Stand strong against those who would do us harm! For glory and honor!"
Standard to activate Inspire Courage granting +3 Circ hit/dam, +3 Morale to fear, I've added buffs to the map to help remember as well.
GM Aarvid |
@Wizzy - we are in the first full round. You pulled out the banner in the surprise round.
@Blanchbeak - KN:engineering seems appropriate, but you can pick a bane type without knowing the monster's type - just with the risk of not matching. :-)
Wizzy unfurls his banner and begins an cheer/chant to inspire you to victory.
The two humans outside move in front of the red orc woman, with scimitars ready.
We are in position, mistress
18-Clanddelve 15-Fandral, Garret <==Can go
Floggentop Wizzbottle III |
Thanks for the heads up.. In that case he uses Inspire Courage as a move action and casts Haste with his standard.
"Fast and fast can be! Take another attack courtesy of me!"
Cast Haste, will effect everyone but Blaunch as he is out of range.
