Mortimus scoffs. ”A shrine to the god of battle. It’s no wonder the place is in such disrepair.”

I haven’t checked out the map but if the chest is in range, Mortimus will sweep the room with detect magic.

There is nothing magical here.

Mortimus grumbles at the situation but recognizes that there's no other way. He commands he minions to enter the sludge-filled chapel and follows behind them.

Nicatha will take the second ring of protection and the spellbook. What spells does the book have?

Nicatha follows after the group. She looks particularly interested in the shrine to the great battle spirit.

Something's not right. A room like this is never empty. Drago thought to himself as he looked around the room for anything suspicious.

You find nothing more than a gold idol of a warrior carrying a battle axe, a set of silver chimes, and a small iron tripod holding an iron bowl. Inside the bowl are three malachites.

Drago tread carefully while heading to the door. He still wasn't convinced danger wasn't lurking nearby.

Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

The dhampir finds nothing as he approaches the iron-bound door.

Mortimus gestures for the giant skeleton to open the iron door.

The skeleton opens the door for Mortimus. It is very cold here. Chains, a skull hanging from each one, are suspended from the ceiling of this large chamber. In the center of the room, a silver aspergillum hangs from a stout chain. Rusted iron bars running from floor to ceiling divide this chamber into a number of distinct sections. Within each section, a jumble of bones covers the floor.

Detect Magic

Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

A couple of spots light up in the chamber.

Finding the decor in this chamber to be much more to his liking, Mortimus studies it while Nicatha sweeps it for magic.

As the cleric and the oracle enter the room, several of the bones come together. Two of the skeletons are wreathed in ice and frost while three others appear to be plain warriors.

Nicatha finds a rotted shift embroidered with a bright yellow material that might be worth around 20 gold, a pair of golden earrings worth 150 gold, a vial containing oil of bless weapon and a one-foot iron rod decorated with symbols of strength and heroism [ooc](wand of bull's strength [10 charges], and the silver aspergilium hanging from a chain in the center of the room.

Can skeletons speak?

Nope.

Bah!

Mortimus gestures for his new skeletons to approach so that he can study them.

”Interesting. Enchanted with an aura of frost. I’d very much like to meet the one that created you”, he says to the mindless undead. ”Is he here? Can you show him to us?”

The skeletons stand in a stupor, the grave chill skeleton standing some distance away. They gesture past the broken down wall that leads into some adjacent caves.

Mortimus waits for the treasure to be gathered and then gestures toward the caverns.

”Show us.”

Alright, I need a definite marching order now. I won't place you willy-nilly this time.

Assuming single file: Little Skeletons, Big Skeleton, Zombie, Mortimus, Ylrhea, Drago, Nicatha.

You enter into a large cavern, that slopes quickly down into a pit of dark sludge. You spy two drow on the same side of the sinkhole as you. On the opposite side stands a black robed figure who looks almost like Drago, save for a few minor details.

"So, you've come. Excellent," the dhampir says. "Your blood shall serve as the catalyst. Be happy, you worthless peons! You will be an integral part in ushering a new era of darkness."

His eyes turn to Drago. "I'm sorry our meeting will be cut short, dear brother. I'm sure we have much to share, but you oppose Mother and for that you must die."

His eyes gaze at the pit for a moment before addressing the two drow. "Kill them and make it quick."

Nicatha will use the wand of bull's strength on the terrifying bloody ogre skeleton.

Nine charges.

New era of darkness?

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 What is the eldest son doing?

Alexandros isn't doing anything magical at the moment.

Mortimus raises a brow and glances back at Drago. ”I hope you’re not overly fond of this brother.”

With a barked command, the Kuthite sends his minions after the drow on the party’s flank.

Gravechill Skeleton vs Drow: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

On the lesser undead’s heels comes the huge bloody ogre skeleton, empowered further by Nicatha’s magic.

Claw plus Bull’s Strength: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
Damage: 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

”If he was the one that raised these frozen skeletons, his magic will be powerful. Keep him off balance”, Mortimus warns as he preemptively touches the half-drow with a minor blessing granting her the resilience of the dead. Grave touch. Nicatha counts as undead for a couple rounds.

The area where the spell went off is now raining heavy ash. Difficult terrain and -4 to perception in that area for 8 rounds.

Turning to Mortimus, the Sorcerer asked, "That answer your question?" Then with a wave of his hand, and speaking, "Qeelak Rifstejar," a wind came up and Drago faded to nothingness.
