"Right?"

You move into another large chamber. Four large tables and benches stand in the center of this room and a huge fireplace – complete with a blazing fire and gigantic spit upon which some kind of unidentifiable meat cooks – dominates one wall. This area is curiously empty, though you do hear sounds coming from the adjoining hallways.

"Something definitely lives here..." Mortimus says in a low voice. "Care to see what it is?" he asks with a meaningful glance at the gnome.

"Why? So you can recruit it for your army?" the gnome asks with a smirk.

"Perhaps", Mortimus answers with a sinister smirk of his own.

The since of impending destiny had only increased for Nicatha as she journeyed down these halls.

"Let us continue."

Drago seemed withdrawn during their foray into the deeper parts of the fortress. What darkness lurks within these depths? He wondered.

Going through the large area, you find open cells with over two score goblin women and children huddled, shrinking away from you as you walk by. A hallway at the southern end of the multitude of cells leads away from this area.

Female Gnome Rogue 13; Mythic Tier 3rd (Trickster) HP: 115/115; AC: 26, FF: 19, T: 17; Fort: +8, Ref: +16, Will +7 (+4 vs fear); Perception: +19; Init: +8

Ylrhea watches the goblins carefully but, since they're frightened, leaves them alone. "Let's keep going."

I thought we were on break!

Mortimus considers the possibility of a swarm of undead goblin babies but discards the idea for now.

It looks like we're going east.

We are! But I didn't want to leave it in the middle of a room. The next passage can wait.

Leaving the defenseless goblins behind, you proceed down the lower hallway. A side passage leads south ending at a solid wooden door while the hallway continues on to the north.

Female Gnome Rogue 13; Mythic Tier 3rd (Trickster) HP: 115/115; AC: 26, FF: 19, T: 17; Fort: +8, Ref: +16, Will +7 (+4 vs fear); Perception: +19; Init: +8

The gnome looks at the cleric questioningly.

Mortimus gestures to the southern door.

"That way first."

Past the door are two more, one to the west and one to the south.

Female Gnome Rogue 13; Mythic Tier 3rd (Trickster) HP: 115/115; AC: 26, FF: 19, T: 17; Fort: +8, Ref: +16, Will +7 (+4 vs fear); Perception: +19; Init: +8

"How many damn doors does a cellar need?!" Ylrhea blurts out.

Mortimus and his minions follow the gnome. "This is a bit more than a cellar."

"West first."

Opening the west door, you see a young ogre sitting here. As he catches sight of the group, he grabs his spear and prepares for a fight.

Jerlax: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Round 1: Nicatha, Mortimus, Ylrhea, Drago, Jerlax

Mortimus gestures, sending the ghoul in followed by the pair of brawny zombies. He touches the bugbear with a guiding spell before it leaves.

Ghoul Claw: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Delay.

The ghoul fails to hit the ogre.

The gnome fires her crossbow at the ogre.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 6 - 4 = 10; miss

Squeezing by Mortimus, Drago moved up to behind Ylrhea. Seeing the ogre's spear, the Damphir took a deep breath and said, "Jikmada."

Cast Shatter on the spear. Ogre Will save vs DC 17 or the spear is destroyed.

GM Rolls:
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

The ogre manages to keep the spear from shattering into pieces, his firm grip loosening as he levels the weapon at the ghoul.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9; miss

Round 2: Nicatha, Mortimus, Ylrhea, Drago, Jerlax

Ylrhea reloads her crossbow and fires again.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 6 - 4 = 14

Nope.

Mortimus touches the gnome with a bit of guidance while his minions go to work.

Nicatha believes that the undead have this in hand.

The undead have no success landing a hit on the ogre. The chainmail and the ogre's fiendish blood make for a troublesome foe.

Round 2: Nicatha, Mortimus, Ylrhea, Drago, Jerlax

Drago concentrates and focuses the power of storms upon his crossbow. Then took careful aim.

Thunderstaff on his weapon. Standard action granting the Shock property to it for 2 rounds.

The ogre takes another stab at the ghoul.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11; miss

Round 3: Nicatha, Mortimus, Ylrhea, Drago, Jerlax

Female Gnome Rogue 13; Mythic Tier 3rd (Trickster) HP: 115/115; AC: 26, FF: 19, T: 17; Fort: +8, Ref: +16, Will +7 (+4 vs fear); Perception: +19; Init: +8

Ylrhea reloads and fires again, hoping for better results.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 1 - 4 = 21

Missed by 1? Seriously?

AC 22? This may require some strategery...

Mortimus commands his ghoul to try to topple the beast. Each of these will provoke if the ogre has combat reflexes.

Claw Trip vs CMD: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Claw Trip vs CMD: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Bite Trip vs CMD: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Bugbear Slam (potentially with +4 for prone): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Ogre Slam (potentially with +4 for prone): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Mortimus will heal the ghoul if it gets pummeled on the AoO.

Drago fired his crossbow.........

Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 - 4 = 15

....and missed entirely.

The ogre stabs at the ghoul as the undead creature knocks the ogre off his feet with its first claw swipe. You can use the ghoul's remaining attacks to deal some damage, Mort.

AoO: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19; Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

The live ogre gets pummeled by the undead ogre, taking a solid blow to the gut.

GM Notes:
J hp: 13

The ogre stands, provoking attacks from all his undead assailants.

I'll roll an attack after Mort's AoO's.

Excellent! The ghoul getting hit on the first AoO will probably make it fail on the first attempt due to the penalty but the second attempt should do it.

Readied Inflict to heal the ghoul: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Ghoul AoO: 1d20 + 3 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 4 = 9
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Bugbear AoO: 1d20 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 6 + 4 = 26
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Ogre AoO: 1d20 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 4 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

The ogre takes a punishing blow from the bugbear zombie, putting it close to death.

GM Notes:
J hp: 4

The wounded ogre takes another stab at the ghoul.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12; miss

I'm assuming Nicatha will pass once more.

Round 4: Nicatha, Mortimus, Ylrhea, Drago, Jerlax

Mortimus barks a command, willing his minions to finish the job.

Claw: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Claw: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Bugbear Slam: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Ogre Slam: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

The ogre zombie slays its living brother, the body crumpling to the ground.

Combat Over.

Mortimus smirks in satisfaction and directs his minions to strip the ogre of its equipment.

”It must have been guarding something in here.”

Aside from the chainmail, the spear, a heavy crossbow with 10 bolts and 20 gold pieces in mixed coinage, there is nothing else of value in this room.

Mortimus frowns when his minions display the gathered valuables. ”Bah!”

It looks like south next.

You head through the southern door. In this chamber, a long, very low table stands behind a blazing fire. Piles of furs surround the table, which is heaped with food and drink. The fire’s flames light the room illuminating many old and faded tapestries hanging from the walls. In the rear of the room, sits a large ogre surrounded by medium-sized goblins. They quickly prepare themselves for battle against you.

Initiative:
Concubines: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Ruknar: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Nicatha: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Drago: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Mortimus: 1d20 ⇒ 10
Ylrhea: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

Round 1: Nicatha, Ylrhea, Ruknar, Mortimus, Drago, Concubines

Female Gnome Rogue 13; Mythic Tier 3rd (Trickster) HP: 115/115; AC: 26, FF: 19, T: 17; Fort: +8, Ref: +16, Will +7 (+4 vs fear); Perception: +19; Init: +8

Ylrhea wastes no time loading her crossbow and firing at the concubine right across from her.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18; Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4

GM Notes:
N hp: 11
G hp: 6

Ruknar snarls at the gnome injuring one of his wenches and hurls a javelin at the ghoul.

Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20; Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Round 1: Nicatha, Ylrhea, Ruknar, Mortimus, Drago, Concubines

Medium sized goblins?!

Mortimus touches his biggest minion with a guiding spell before gesturing for them to charge into battle.

Charging Claw: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 3 + 2 = 15
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Charging Bugbear Slam: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 6 + 2 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Charging Ogre Slam: 1d20 + 7 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 7 + 3 = 29
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
