Luccinus de Concorezio |
Luccinus leads him to the door and then points out to Sohali looking at the oars in perplexity.
There you are. I'm too clad in steel to climb on in..
Luccinus then resumes his overwatch.
GM Nel |
Dunn gets on the boat and attempts to help Sohali maneuver the boat.
I'll give a bonus to the int check, since rowboats work best with two people
Sohali: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 (Sohali does not assist)
Dunn: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19 But Dunn, being a worldly and ingenious fellow, is able to figure out that if you row in tandem, the boat is able to move forward!
Sohali and Dunn slowly but surely row the boat under the warehouse, and position it so that if the box were to fall, it would fall on the boat (hopefully).
Allrighty. What are the warehouse peeps doing about the teetering crate?
Luccinus de Concorezio |
It seems that Dunn is covering his wounds better than expected... I took a peek and he's pretty beat up. May be worth it if anyone can CLW.
Vermin* |
Was already working on it. Only have one spell though.
Vermin catches Dunn's arm as he moves by. Those bites look bad. he says. He studies the punctures for a moment.
Heal Check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Then, placing one hand over the worst wound he quickly chants some Orcish rime and his hand glows softly for a moment. He finish the chant with Gozreh provides.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Edit. Hmm. You must not be in Nature's favor at the moment. Oh well, 3 is better than nothing.
GM Nel |
Dunn is healed for 3, (currently at 8 hp).
Anyone interested in the disease (vermin already tried this check):
The disease is Filth Fever. Effects will begin in 1-3 days it will deal 1-3 Dex and Con damage. Victims can either attempt to let their bodies fight the disease by themselves or hire a cleric to cast remove disease
GM Nel |
Xavier approaches the crate to attempt to push it over and into the hole.
His quarterstaff is 5 feet long, and he has a 5 foot reach, so he is able to accomplish it by moving to one of the squares adjacent to the hole.
However, as he steps towards it, the rotting floor near the hole starts to crack and give in under his weight!
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (8) + 0 = 8
Sadly, Xavier is not fast enough to jump out of the way, so the floor collapses along with him and the crate. Thankfully the boat was positioned correctly and they both landed on it.
Dunn Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Sohali Acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
holy crud that was close you two!
The weight of their companion and crate rocks the boat, and Dunn and Sohali are barely able to not fall into the water! With a little effort, Sohali and Dunn are able to maneuver the boat back to the dock where they found it, and between the three of them are able to lift the crate onto the dock itself.
Luccinus de Concorezio |
Well done, says Lucinnus deadpan. It seems we have managed to find what we were looking for thanks to your solution.
Are the required papers in the crate?
GM Nel |
Luccinus pries open the top of the crate. It holds a smaller mahogany box inside, which contains five books and a few loose sheets of paper in a leather folder. The titles and subjects seem completely unrelated to each other: Practical Thaumaturgy In Accordance with Creation, Geographic Anomalies of the Inner Sea, Under Kaer Maga: A Trial and Travel, Physiology of Dragons: An Illustrated Reference, Lost Sarusan. Dunn looks at the books, and to everyone else he appears to be salivating. The leather folder contains cargo manifestos, warehouse inventories, and other financial logs from a dozen different merchant houses and trade guilds.
The crate also contains 10 sets of masterwork thieves’ tools, three flasks of alchemist’s fire, a flask of acid, a dozen jars of various inks, a footprint book, adamantine weapon blanch, three bags of powder, a deck of marked cards, and two sets of average loaded dice.
Luccinus de Concorezio |
Well well... seems to meet my expectations - I believe that what we don't use may be in demand with our fellow pathfinders... we can sell much of these goods.
Take what you need, he indicates the crate and goes back to staying on lookout for trouble.
We should track down a temple for Friend Dunn and see if the Pathfinders offer any sort of discount for services with the local religions he says without looking towards the party.
Dunn, Son of Absalom |
Dunn is healed for 3, (currently at 8 hp).
Anyone interested in the disease (vermin already tried this check):
** spoiler omitted **
I was wounded in the vault as well. I calculate that with the three points of healing I am now at 6. Thank you my friends. I feel much better now. Dunn finds himself navigating the boat with little trouble. Let's stay out of the way if that crate drops.
After the contents of the crate have been check Dunn helps himself to the deck of cards (if no one else takes them)[/ooc a bag of powder, a flask of alchemists fire and the acid.[ooc](again if no one else wants it)
GM Nel |
You begin your trek back towards the center of Absalom, heading for the Temple of the Shining Star. As you see it, it's a temple and you have to head there anway, so might as well get some healing for your friend there.
You may all attempt these on the way
As you walk down the streets, you see the figure of a man that resembles the person Vermin described to you earlier as "looking our way too much". Once again though, he seems to have disappeared into the crowds after just some brief seconds.
Vermin, you get to open the Perception spoiler for free.
All of you, if you were able to open the spoiler above, you may also:
Luccinus de Concorezio |
Hmmmm - seems we have a constant admirer. I think I found that person you mentioned earlier Friend Vermin. There a moment and then lost in the press of the crowd.
Dunn, Son of Absalom |
Dunn takes up his position at the rear of the group. Watching for anything "out of the ordinary." Scanning the windows and crowds as he passes. Perception:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Dunn catches sight of the man. He studies him for the brief second he is visible.Sense Motive:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18 Beware gentlemen. I think we are being watched. No sign of a threat though. Despite this Dunn un-holsters his pistol and carries it under his cloak.
Xavier Charlevesque |
Xavier takes one of the flasks of alchemist’s fire and the footprints book for himself and helps carry whatever else is left over.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
I never identified the wand - can I take 10 on the spellcraft check to identify it? And, if so, can you tell me again what it was?
Vermin* |
Wow. Pleased at the progress. On to the Paladin. :)
Vermin would have spent all the time allowed to him rummaging through the crates and boxes at the old warehouse picking out choice items. Hammers, ropes, fishing nets, a grappling hook, etc. He protests weakly as you make him leave these treasures behind. But we were told we could keep what we find. he bemoans as lead away.
Later, Vermin spots the man watching them again and is ready to move towards him in the crowd, only to loose him immediately. He is pleased others saw him that time though and feels vindicated.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Yes, others besides that one are watching. Vermin says quietly, agreeing with Dunn.
Vermin will take a set of thieves tools along with one of the Alchemist Fires and a bag of the powder. This is not "black Powder" is it?
GM Nel |
Arriving at the Temple of the Shining Star, you are immediately directed to Ollysta Zadrian. This paladin of Sarenrae is young in her years, but holds herself with the poise of a queen and warrior simultaneously. As she notices your arrival, she strides forward, addressing the group in a strong voice.
"Thank the light of Sarenrae you have arrived! I knew Ambrus would come through for us in the Silver Crusade. I desperately need you to bring medicine to an orphanage and let me know if the headmistress, Gilga Baltwin, is deserving of our charity. Since our quest began, the needy have clamored for our aid, and I suspect some are abusing our generosity. It may sound cruel, but there are plenty of dishonest people out in the world eager for easy gold."
"Do you know of the Silver Crusade? After discovering so many factions splintered the Society, a number of us banded together to proliferate the cause of charity and kindness using the Society's resources. As it is said, ‘The Dawn brings new light’ and I've made it my life's work to use our recent darkness to bring a new light to the world and to the Pathfinder Society. I apologize for straying off point. Will you bring this parcel of medicine to Auntie Baltwin's Home for Recovery in the Eastgate district?"
"I am not sure if Gilga Baltwin is honest or not, but I hope this delivery by Pathfinder agents will confirm whether the orphanage is operating honorably. I ask of you to be observant and report back to me any evidence if Baltwin isn’t worthy of the Silver Crusade’s aid.
Vermin* |
Vermin listens to Ollysta Zadrian carefully. At the end of her speech he comes forward to accept parcel, but accepting it so that his bitten hand, unbound and showing signs of infection already, is clearly visible. Charity is good. I for one will gladly help you and the Silver Crusade, he says, and then adds somewhat shyly my lady of the Sun.
GM Nel |
I usually allow borrowing against your funds for the current session. If you wish, I can take 2 gp from everyone and list it on the chronicle sheet at the end. I doubt a temple of Sarenrae is going to want thief tools :P
Related, remove disease would be 150gp.
"Oh my, what happened to you hand?" she says when Vermin takes the parcel.
Heal check: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31
"My, The disease is Filth Fever. Usually, effects will begin in 1-3 days and it will weaken you physically. We could attempt to cure it here in the temple for our cost of materials, but we also see a lot of patients able to overcome the disease by themselves. The apothecary nearby can also apply some Antiplague for a modest fee."
Antiplague: If you drink a vial of this foul-tasting, milky tonic, you gain a +5 alchemical bonus on Fortitude saving throws against disease for the next hour. If already infected, you may also make two saving throws (without the +5 bonus) that day and use the better result. Cost: 50g per dose
Vermin* |
Besides those tools are worth 100 gold a set. We have 500 gold, sale price, of tools there. If we sell something within the mod and hire some spell casting, within the same mod it might not effect our gold reward at the end, assuming some overcap exists. Usually it does.
But before we start spending gold, lets see if this paladin really believes in charity. :) And Vermin is good trying to overcome the disease himself, at least initially.
I am tough, my lady and believe I can beat this disease, especially with your wisdom and words of this Antiplague. But if you could help close the wound I would be most grateful. I hate to get blood all over your temple. He adds sheepishly.
GM Nel |
Sadly, selling as you describe it is not allowed in PFS. Basically, the cash you get at the end is an abstraction of what you find AND sell. But, as you said, its a lvl 1 disease and should be easy to beat by yourselves. Also, if we play First steps 1-2-3 back to back, it happens "in continuity" and no time passes in between. So we can make fort saves as days go by.
Vermin's Dimplomacy: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (14) - 2 = 12
Ollysta claps her hands and two of her clerics come in and help bandage your hand and Dunn's with some very fine silk wrappings. Heal check: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23 You can apply a +2 bonus to Fort save to beat this disease as long as the wounds are bandaged.
"There that should help for now. This should keep the would clean, and I wish I could be of more assistance."
Luccinus de Concorezio |
I am happy to pay for the wounds... disease treatment is another, more personal issue.
Glad to chip in for a CLW before we close out the mission but if I were diseased/drained etc, I'd expect to pay for it out of my own funds... that said I *DO* believe in chipping in for raise deads
Vermin* |
I agree with you Luccinus. I think we still have some healing power in our paladin, unless his archtype does not get Lay On Hands. I have not looked.
Edit - I looked it up. Lay on Hands is second level ability for the Paladin class. Not sure what I was thinking. I have used my only cure spell. I think we do need to heal up before leaving here if possible. 10g a spell is well worth it.
Sohali Haddad |
"Thank you Lady Ollysta, it will be our pleasure to take these supplies to the orphanage an I will personally talk with this Gilga Baltwin to ascertain their character.” Sohali says with a slight bow of the head. From his tone and manner you believe that Sohali is a little humbled to be in the presence of such a prestigious member of a Paladin Order.
Vermin* |
Vemin looks at the silk wrappings with reverence. Thank you my lady. I have some coin and could make a donation to your church if one of your clerics could also close the wound.
And back to the mission. Vermin asks Ollysta Have you even met Gilga Baltwin in person? What area of the city does she have her home in?
Also, could you describe this parcel in more detail? size? How is it wrapped or closed?
Vermin* |
Sadly, Lay on Hands' disease mercy is a 6th level ability. But close. Are we walking over to the lady or does anyone have anything else on the temple besides throwing a CLW on Dunn? BTW I also have Vermin at 6/10 hp
Oh, you misunderstand. I was only looking for some curing of the 4 health I am down. Still its a second level ability for our Sohali.
GM Nel |
"Aunt Baldwin's Home for Recovery lies in the Eastgate district, one district over to the east from here. I presume she lives with the children at the orphanage. I have never met Ms. Baldwin in person, but her orphanage did come well reviewed by another agent of the Silver Crusade. We send agents to all our charity locations with some regularity to assure us that the Silver Crusade's help is not abused."
Vermin, on your first comment, are you trying to pay the 10gp for CLW or trying to coerce them into a remove disease for a discount?
The parcel is basically a small box, maybe 1x1x1 feet big. Inside are a few jars of medicine, packed with paper and rags to prevent breakage.
Xavier Charlevesque |
21 new posts?! Geez...
Xavier's bored look returns to his face. It is clear he finds this "mission" less fulfilling than rummaging through an old dockside warehouse. "Dunn, not to be a bore, but I do think it would be worth your while to get those wounds checked out. No reason to rush into an orphanage with gaping wounds, you know."
Vermin* |
Vermin has enough direction from the Paladin to satisfy him. If he has the address he is ready to head in that direction. Thank you and your church good Paladin for both the healing and the bandages. Vermin says. We will deliver this medicine, and check out how deserving this Gilga Baltwin is of your charity.
Once outside he comments to the group. Lets keep our eyes open for those that watch us. Maybe we can catch them unaware this time. And before we check in with Gilga Baltwin I am thinking we should check around in the area to see what her neighbors think of her.
