Xavier is the only son of a wealthy shipper in Westcrown. His youth was spent studying and training under the finest scholars. When it was discovered that he a hint of magical ability, his father ensured that he finest trainers money could buy. Even from a young age, Xavier preferred wielding a staff as opposed to the flashy swords of his peers in training. His masters were amazed by how quickly he took to it.
When he was 16, his mother died from a Shiver overdose. Overcome by grief, his father withdrew from his son and focused solely on supporting his business and his own alcoholic addiction. Disgusted by his father's behavior, he bought his own apartment with his father's money and found a job as a librarian - this diversion allowed him to consume a copious number of books and provided a modicum of income once his father withdrew his income.
His training lapsed only slightly when his masters were no longer being paid. One in particular, a younger Chelixian, invested her free time and energy in helping Xavier train. They fell in love and moved in together when both were 18. On her 24th birthday, she announced that she thought they should both join the Pathfinder's Society to seek fame and fortune - and to get out of Westcrown. Xavier balked - he had no desire to leave, his father was ill and it was only a matter of time before he passed away and left Xavier his considerable wealth. She wanted no part of that life and after months of fighting, she left. He never heard from her again.
Sadly, for Xavier, his father recovered, and finding nothing keeping him Westcrown, he decided to head to Absalom to rekindle his relationship and to make his own way in the world.
