The fire giant leaders are King Tytarian and his consort Quivixia.

The relics are the Ruby Sapphire of Osh-Maru, an uncut gemstone with assorted elemental powers and a non-magical warhammer once wielded by a famous giant-hunter known as the Hammer of Thunderbolts.

"Sanctioned regicide and potential relic recovery. The hammer of thunderbolts? If memory serves, that was an artifact-level weapon. A shame it has lost its powers. I would have loved to study it. The Ruby Sapphire I am less familiar with, but I am eager to learn more about it. Well, well. I might be able to get interested in this after all."

Feral I have a spell I want to cast with a 2 hour casting time, and I need a nice quiet place to cast it in. What are the furnishings inside Stormeye's office? Are they comfortable? Is Stormeye still inside his office?

Exiel We are going shopping once I am done here.

Ralph finally dismisses his invisibility and reveals himself to the Pathfinders as he prepares to make his next announcement, his face smug and self-assured at the power he was about to display.

"I am about to create a secure staging ground and refuge for us. Our own private demiplane. More specifically, my private demiplane, but you will be my guests. Entry can only be effected by use of a plane shift spell together with one of my special foci. Pursnikkitty I understand you are able to ask Erastil for the spell, so I will entrust you with one of my foci. Remember to prepare the spell! If we are caught in a bind, either one of us will be able transport all adjacent allies to the plane where we can regroup, recover and even rest safely for a day or two if the need arises."

Ralph begins his casting, unweaving the energy from his prepared summon monster 7 and plane shift spells into raw strands of power. Taking a deep breath, he reaches out again and coaxes forth a dark sphere within which twinkles of light multihued streams of energy flow freely - a window into the astral plane itself. Reaching in with his magic, he weaves stone and substance out of the very aether, and then slowly and methodically shapes the matter into an immense, albeit empty, hall, brightly lit by some invisible light source. Finally, with a careful and measured gesture, he pulls the hall just slightly out of sync with the rest of the astral plane so that it now exists in its own space - a demiplane unto itself hidden within the astral plane.

By the time Ralph is done, it has been 2 hours, and he heaves a sigh as he observes his finished work.

"It is spartan right now, I know, but it will suffice. If I could take a day or two I could shape some furniture, but I do not believe te Decemvirate wants us to take more than a day preparing. If you have anything you want to leave in my demiplane, come to me now."

Ralph and anyone who accepts his offer are transported to his demiplane as the final part of completing his spell. He directs anyone with him to leave their belongings neatly in a corner before sending them back to the grand lodge office (I can send people back to the material plane from my demiplane at will as its owner). Ralph himself does not return to the office until a few minutes later.

"Alright, Exiel, I am ready. Just about the right time. The officials from the bureau of trade will be expecting us right about now."

Feral: What I do when I am in the demiplane alone depends on your answers to my PM.
Ralph and Exiel are going to go shopping and do a faction journal mission.

Exiel and Ralph's faction mission:

Ralph uses his second use of spell study to cast visualization of the mind on himself and his last use of spell study with focused spells to cast CL18 bestow insight on Exiel. He also instructs Exiel to cast heroism and moment of greatness on both of them.

Exiel might have more spells to cast on himself. That is up to him.

Once they are done casting their spells, Ralph casts greater teleport to teleport himself and Exiel into the office of the Gokan trade bureau where are panel of officials stand ready to assess their appraisal skills to approve their applications for merchant licenses.

"Best of luck, Exiel. I won't need it."

Appraise DC29: 1d20 + 17 + 9 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 17 + 9 + 2 + 2 = 46

Exiel Remember our deal.

Ralph performs so well that the trade officials grant him his license for free. His skills are just that impressive.

After Exiel and Ralph are done in Goka, Ralph uses his bonded item to cast greater teleport again to return to the Grand Lodge where he rests to refresh his mind for a new set of spells for the new day.

Rhon, instead of that, how about buying a metamagic rod of extend and letting me cast it for you? My CL13 resist energy spells will also grant resist fire 30, and you get to keep the rod afterwards.

Before Ralph teleports Exiel casts the following spells on himself:
Threefold aspect (elderly)
Heroism
Moment of Greatness

"Don't worry Ralph, I have my tricks too. I promise I'll get it on the first go. My divinations this morning have already granted me some insights on the tests ahead."

As he takes his test, Exiel motivates himself to perform better by reminding himself of his promise to Ralph, and relies on Ralph's spell to glean further insights. He draws on every resource available, including his own spells and even tapping into Baba Yaga's power to improve his performance.

Moment of Greatness: +4 more morale

Even by pulling on every trick at his disposal, his performance does not quite rival Ralph's, but it comes close enough to impress the judges so that they also give him a free trade license.

"You guys are gonna love what my trade caravans will be bringing to Goka, by the way. Check this out!"

Exiel slips his new claw shield onto his arm.

"It's the latest design from the Golemworks in Magnimar, but the concept and design partially provided by your's truly. What we have here is a golem-grade arm that syncs with the user's mind, so that it animates pretty much on its own. Punches as hard as a shield bash, but also big and solid enough to serve as a shield. It's even been enchanted to better-serve as a shield. But most important of all, it looks damn cool! It comes in several designs too. I picked the golden lion-paw design for myself, but it also comes in a variety of other mammalian, reptilian and draconic claws, and well... there is a demon-claw design, but my caravan won't be carrying too many of those ones. The dragon claw designs I think will be highly popular in Goka, and even more so in Xa Hoi, if you want to partner with me and be my distributors there."

If I you give me a +2 circumstance bonus for my plug to the judges, I can match Ralph's score! XD

More things happening in Goka:
I apologize I made a mistake. Visualization of the mind is banned in PFS. So the best I can cast instead is another CL18 bestow insight on myself. I also forgot I could use my own mantle of the black rider. In fact if I use Adjusting my roll with these new modifiers, my final score is 44, not 46. Still enough to get a merchant license for free but I only tie with Exiel, only because I don't have so many 1/day boost abilities. And I didn't need to turn myself into an old man for a day. Cheater. :P

After they obtain their merchant licenses Ralph brings Exiel to the marketplace to find a novice witch who is able to demonstrate the ill omen spell for Exiel. Ralph pays for the demonstration on Exiel's word that he will cast the spell when Ralph requests it.

I pay 10gp for the spellcasting service. I only need a CL1 ill omen to be demonstrated. I will pay up to 5 times for Exiel to attempt to learn it. If he can't make it Ralph will hit him on the head and tell him to pay for more demonstrations until he gets it.

"Remember, Exiel. I will be preparing some critical spells. When I give the signal, it is imperative that you cast this spell upon my designated target."

Feral: The rest of my purchases and preparation will depend on your answer to my PM. Once I have it I will make my spell list for the new day. Other than that I am ready to proceed.

Pursnikkitty: We teleported to Goka to do our faction journal. But you are welcome to be with us if there are things you need to buy there or just want to visit.

Rhon: We have 2.78 full casters in the party. It would be a disgrace to us if you needed to buy such expensive potions. Take Exiel's advice and get the lesser extend metamagic rod or buy something else you need. I will ensure Exiel casts extended resist energy fire on both you and Kaldane/Kargoth. Purs can cast his own fire resistance.

Exiel:I want an extended resist energy fire on myself, Rhon and Mike's character. I also want an extended resist energy COLD on me. In exchange, I offer you a CL18 magic vestment. Deal?

When Ralph meets the party again the next morning, he looks very pleased with himself. He hands a note to Lauriel and an ornate forked metal rod to Pursnikitty.

"Purs, if you use this rod as a focus for a plane shift spell, you will be brought to my demiplane. Keep it safe. I want it back after this mission is done."

"Lauriel, Exiel has agreed to let me borrow your assistance in a specific matter. The contents of that note will make sense when you see the right signs. Execute them accordingly."

"Exiel, if you see me stamping the ground, call forth Lauriel to perform her task."

"Are we ready to begin?"

Ralph casts extended overland flight and mage armor on himself. As promised, if Exiel casts the spells that Ralph requested, Ralph will use spell study and focused spells and his metamagic rod to cast an extended CL18 magic vestment on Exiel's shield.

If the place that we are about to teleport to looks like it is likely to be immediately dangerous, Ralph will cast enlarge person on Rhon before the teleport.

Just before the teleport, he turns himself invisible with his ring.

Exiel readily and eagerly accepts Ralph's offer of the buff-swap, but shows significantly more concern when he starts giving Lauriel secret instructions.

"Just don't ask Lauriel to do anything dangerous or strange, ok? She's strictly a non-combatant. Alright, let's do this."

Spells cast the night before:
Overland flight (After this one runs out I'll recast on the next day)
Extended Mage Armour
Extended greater magic weapon
Threefold Aspect (Young)

Spells cast just before teleport:
Extended heroism - me
Extended barkskin - me

"Hey Ralph, reckon we'll need those resistances right off the bat?"

If Ralph says yes:
Extended resist fire - me, Rhon, Ralph, whoever-Mike-brings
Extended resist cold - Ralph

Ralph do you have spare uses left on your lesser extend rods? I think I need to borrow a charge to extend all my buffs cast today. That's alot of resistance spells.

Sorry guys. I'm going to need a little longer to sort out things with Kaldane.

Based on reference imagery, you're teleporting in near the entrance to the fortress. It would not be unreasonable to assume immediate danger.

Okay, let's get this show on the road.

With an arcane verse and a *pop*, the team of veteran Seekers are whisked from the Grand Lodge in Absalom across the continent into the depths of Ashpeak.

The party arrives at the entrance to a deep dark humid cavern. It's narrow by giant standards but plenty wide for most humanoids.

Being a dungeon crawl, this is going to be mostly guided exploration. Give me a general marching order as well as a summary of what buffs are up when you guys arrive. The corridor you're entering is 20 feet wide but it narrows as much as 10 feet wide at places.

We have at least 2 venture captains in the party, thank you very much. >:)

"Hmm... underground. Rhon should feel right at home."

As the only primary arcane caster Ralph will be at the back, flying equidistant from all the walls and ceiling/floor. He will use his ring of invisibility every minute to refresh his invisibility.

I believe Pursnikitty will not be too far in front or perhaps even walking beneath me unless he can fly. Rhon and Exiel taking point. Rhon on the ground and Exiel in the air. If we have Kargoth, he will probably be with Rhon. I think a 30ft gap between the front and back lines should be sufficient.

Ralph's buffs:

1. Extended overland flight
2. Mage armor
3. Resist energy cold
4. Resist energy fire
5. Invisibility (re-cast from ring every minute)
6. Heroes' feast

"This is as good a time as any." Ralph casts heightened awareness and begins to tell the party what to expect from fire giants in general.

"As with most giants, expect robust fortitude, immense brute strength and uncanny rock-throwing abilities. It should be obvious that fire giants are immune to fire and vulnerable to cold."

1. Special senses, in particular darkvision
2. Which is lower, their reflex or will save?

4. You can decide for me from here

I've got darkvision.

Happy to take point alongside Rhon. Assuming the passage is about as tall as it is wide, I'm not sure how useful flying's going to be though apart from being able to fly over allies to attack from the same horizontal square. I might actually fly in a space 5ft away from Rhon laterally so that between us we cover the 20ft passages without leaving space for the giants to get past us to the squishies behind.

The tunnel is dimly lit by light via an orange glow that filters up through the cracks in the stone walls and floor - likely from distant veins of magma.

1. Giants typically have low-light vision and high perception.
2. Giants typically have power reflex saves.
3. Giants typically have feats that compliment their brute strength including improved sunder, improved bullrush, and improved overrun.
4. Fire giants in particular have the ability to transfer their intense body heat into stones they throw inflicting additional fire damage.

Earl dutifully glides forward to scout. The elemental finds that moving through the earth in the fortress quickly escalates from uncomfortably warm to quite painful.

Earl will take increasing fire damage for earthgliding. How far ahead did you want him to scout?

"Well, our spell durations are ticking away. How about we just keep moving with Earl moving ahead of us beneath the ground? If he senses something coming he can double back to warn us."

Let's keep moving?

The party moves forward slowly with Earl periodically returning to report that he's detected nothing.

After several hundred feet of this he returns with news that the cavern splits off into a large chamber where he detects three moving creatures.

Four minutes have passed at this point.

I think the intention is for Earl to double back only if he detects something, rather than going back and forth so we proceed at a snail's pace. I'm not keen to effectively halve our spell durations just to get a round or 2 of notice before a fight.

"Let's go check out that room then. I say we knock and ask for directions. Anyone speak giant?"

He beckons the others over as he flies forward at his normal pace, not waiting for Earl to do back-and-forth reporting.

Ah. In that case it's been 2 minutes.

The party moves forward and turns a corner into a large chamber that's furnished with tables and chairs for ten foot-tall inhabitants. Though the chamber is mostly natural, someone went to the trouble of decorating the room for comfort. Four large wooden doors lead out of the room.

Two giants with clay-colored skin and hair of rolling flames are bickering when the party enters. They immediately reach for their weapons.

And iirc Ralph enlarged Rhon.

So his AoO triggers before osyluth guile. I'm glad he didn't roll the 19 for his AoO! As it stands, everything misses. =D

Exiel finds himself almost caught by surprise at the giant's surprisingly sharp reflexes and barely manages to catch the first swing on his newly acquired shield. Using his flight to his advantage, he deflects the force of the blow by using the momentum to push himself into a spin as he moves in and drives his rapier into the giant. The giant's counterattacks are swift and powerful, his first blow nearly catching Exiel square in the head, but Exiel has the measure of his opponent now, and kicks against the giant's weapon at the last moment to maneuver his body under the path of the massive weapon.

"Valor! Valor! A knight is sworn to valor!"

Darting to and fro between the giant's follow-up swings, Exiel recites the first line of an old Code his father had taught him, channeling the power of his bloodline into his voice to inspire himself and his allies.

Using a first level spell slot as a swift action with my heroic legends bloodline to inspire courage for 1 round. Humans (i.e. me and, ironically, Ralph) get double the duration. I also get an extra +1 since it is a competence bonus

Abilities used:

(Robe of arcane heritage) Heroic Legends (Su): At 15th level, you may inspire greatness or inspire heroics as a bard of your sorcerer level by sacrificing a spell slot as a swift or move action. The effect lasts a number of rounds equal to the sacrificed spell’s level; this duration is doubled for human recipients.

Heroic Echo (Su): At 3rd level, when you receive a morale bonus from any spell, spell-like ability, or magic item, including those you cast on yourself, that bonus increases by +1. At 9th level, this ability also applies to competence bonuses.

Ralph lets the illusory wall drop and draws his wand again, this time to cast an illusion of a pit filled with inky darkness, with numerous large blood-shot eyes that appear and blink at the giant before disappearing, only to be replaced by other eyes that do the same.
