Okay, a few changes.

I swapped out a couple spells for Cure Light Wounds and Reduce Person. This way, I have a use for the free Brew Potion.

Also, swapped out my Antitoxin for 2 potions of Cure Light, that I made myself.

jmberaldo here

Started adding the char stats in this profile. Still missing equipment
Ill also add the background later tonight. I've been working on it at home and don't have the file here

Comments and suggestions, please fire away

@Rsss'tak:
Gods, I feel like a tool. I had a stupid-math moment, or something. :P (I think I was thinking 1/4, and multiplied by by 3/4 instead of 1/4. Or something that must've made sense at the time.)

Scale mail 100gpx.33=33gp, 3sp, 3cp/30lbs
Hvy wood shield 7gpx.33gp=2gp, 3sp, 1cp/10lbs
Studded leather barding 100gpx.33=33gp, 3sp, 2cp/40lbs

Leaves your total wealth spent, aside from your lean-to, at 122gp, 0sp, 7cp.
You have 52gp, 9sp, 3cp left.

Metal armor just uses the nonhumanoid price, instead of the humanoid price, on table 6-8 of the Core Rulebook. Leather, hide, etc. is priced normally.

Where did you get a lean-to? What are the stats? Just a canvas and a sectionalized 10-ft pole, a tent, what?

No worries, I was just wondering about the costs, it's a lot to figure out when you start.

As far as the lean to, I was just thinking that a tent seemed kind of....formal for a Lizard folk. I am willing to rule it however you want as far as cost and weight, was just looking for something a little more primitive. I may need one when I actually start adventuring in the bigger world.

Just updated him with your feedback on skill and such, the AC was a big miss :).
For the mount I fixed his movement and added the bonus trick of hunting. Also decided to go with the feat improved natural attack, claw. Figured out that I couldn't take weapon focus until his second feat under the Druids Feats section...interesting logic they followed.

Last items are his bonus teamwork feat...and spending his remaining gold...

@Djatrix/jmberaldo:

>Your ranged/melee attack bonuses are reversed. What is your 'X' melee weapon? How are you getting +3 damage with attacks, not +1? Natural attacks are not listed.
>Your starting languages are Draconic and Sylvan (not Common); if you spend one of your 5 skill points on Linguistics, then you could speak common.
>You are missing CMB/CMD (+1/12, I believe)
>Racial abilities not listed. (hold breath, monstrous anatomy, natural attacks, etc.)
>Please list the DC of Brain Drain.
>Please give brief mechanical description of Haunted curse.
>You seem to be over 2 cantrips (you get 4 known, not 6 at 1st level).

>Regarding Skills: How do you have 7 skill points? If you use favored class for a point, you should have 5 points (Oracle gets 4 + Int skill points).
-->Knowledge skills are Int-based, not Wis- or Cha-based.
-->Did you apply your trait bonuses properly? You seem to have too many +1 skill bonuses. (you list a +1 to Survival from World Traveler trait, but have a +1 in Diplomacy instead, for example)... If not, where did the +1 to Diplomacy come from?
-->Your bonus to Sense Motive seems too high (+1, not +2 from trait)
-->Your Swim skill would be at +9, before armor (+1 Dex, +8 racial from having a swim speed).

>Make it half the weight/cost of the tent, and it can shelter you and your gear. Assume it consists of a 10ft x 15ft canvas tarp treated with wax and oil, sturdy cordage lines to tie it off with, and the like. Can double as a hammock, a giant makeshift sack, or a cloak. :)

Okay, folks, from what I can tell, we've got the following applicants (and, it seems, the party if no one else shows interest):

Rsss'tak (Terok), Lizardfolk Cavalier 1

Djatrix (jmberaldo), Lizardfolk Oracle 1

Vess'Sothek (Stratos), Lizardfolk Ranger 1 [stats pending]

Yochtanl Torufo (Shane Gifford), Vesh Witch 1

Palag Torufo (Veltzeh), Vesh Rogue 1

I could include up to 2 more players quite easily, but this seems like a rounded group (could always add more later). I am still waiting on my buddy to get back from vacation, but I'm guessing his hectic life will get in the way.

Whatever happened to Stiehl9s?

Anyway, brush up the character sheets, and I'll check in over the next few days, but I need to focus on getting the Riftfiew town info up (general racial demographics, notable NPCs, notable locations/amenities, customs, population size, immediate vicinity's description, and the Rumor Mill).

Let me know if anyone has any questions! :)

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 16

I mixed up Int and Wis modifiers. Also I changed which trait skills to add and forgot to taken them off the score later on

The attack info was a copy/paste from Rsss'tak's sheet, which I didn't modify because, as I said, i didn't get equipment yet

"Haunted" gived me mage hand and ghost sound, hence why 6 known orisions and not 4

I also added the other info you asked for. What is "monstrous anatomy?"

I still need to add equipment and the background, which I should do later on tonight

jmberaldo wrote:

I missed the curse-granted orisons, thanks for clarifying. :)

Monstrous anatomy is the 'crunch' added to the Lizardfolk race that says that metal armor costs extra for them (helps offset the +1 nat armor/class level without preventing the coolness of being a tank).

Shane: Are you okay with the bits about Yochtanl and Palag's common history (here) or would you like to change some of it?

Also, should we work out how the lizardfolk and vesh met? I'm thinking the trip from Touli to the marshes and from there to Riftview could be a good place/time for them to have met. Or would it be better that they only met in Riftview once we start playing?

Palag's stats should be done, so any changes will probably be more details to background and such.

This is up to the party as a whole. I don't mind either way. Both work equally well.

I like the common history. Yochtanl wouldn't have heard much about you; he would have maybe heard in passing about the pupil he passed up, but they likely wouldn't have talked about you in front of him. We would have likely met, but not become friends as children, as you probably had resentment towards me.

However, when the clan was destroyed, we would have gotten much closer during our travels, and now the resentment of your past would seem like a stupid, childish thing compared to the loss of your clan. I'm cool with us meeting at Touli. As I understand, you heard that I was in town and found me?

As far as the second part goes, as long as the lizardfolk have a reason to travel from their homelands to Riftview, then I say we meet them along the road. Maybe both groups set down at the same campsite, and talked. We learned that we all had a common destination, and so decided to travel as one group. The problem with this is that there isn't a whole lot of incentive to stay together once we get to Riftview.

I am actually waiting on the other two lizard folk to finish up their backgrounds so we can work up the tie in on the adventuring side.
As far as Djatrix, we were born around the same time and we are cousins. We have been close as we grew up and Rsss'tak decided when Djatrix was exiled from the tribe that he would accompany him on his journey to the outside world. Djatrix taught him common from the other Tree Wardens.
We could easily work in Vess'Sothek along the same lines to help us form a group that would stay together to look after each other.

As far as how we all meet it could be that one group meets the other in some way to help each other. Most adventures have some way to tie the group together. Maybe Djatrix visions show something that the Vesh are also interested in and the shared Vision causes us to band together for something greater.

Could be the hook for some adventures?

If the tie-in is gonna be that Djatrix has visions that interest me, it should have something to do with seeking knowledge. Visions of ancient ruins, a powerful wizard, a secret library, or something of the like would work.

So, to weave your idea with mine, Djatrix has visions about uncovering some knowledge in some way, and doing so with the aid of 2 vesh. Lo and behold, as your group is traveling, you make camp and 2 vesh travelers show up, sharing the site with you. Djatrix brings up these visions, and they interest my character, so I decide to go along with your group.

@Palag, What would need to be included in the visions for your character to hop in? Promises of magic items, I guess?

I'm just trying to help come up with a good hook to begin with.

Hmmm this could open up some interesting RP possibilities Djatrix is a Lore Oracle so that would fit in well...maybe we should play out this meeting once we get the PBP up and running, it could be a good excuse to learn a little about each other was well as our motivations.
I am not fond of the artifical "You just start travelling together" approach. This could actually take place in Riftview when we are both in town...

Djatrix & Vess'Sothek:
I was thinking we could be in town and you have a vision in a public area where the 2 Vesh happen to be walking by. You mention something in a vision that garners their attention and we roleplay out the two team joining up?
Any thoughts or additions? Thx.

Yup. The resentment wasn't a driving force but just something that first grew stronger and then weaker again before they lost the clan, and is now (mostly) forgotten. And yep on the reuniting, too.

Rsss’tak wrote:

I agree on that.

I think that the vision thing sounds quite a nice bond for the two groups! It could even be so that Yochtanl's familiar had been talking with him and said something specific, and Djatrix also mentions the same thing when having the vision.

Knowledge is also in Palag's interests, though the ultimate goal is for magic items and artefacts. Knowledge leads to magic items and magic items lead to more knowledge, heh.

@Yochtanl: Where's your familiar? What Patron did you select?

@All: I'm happy with the visions angle, and will elaborate after I'm done with Riftview over the next few days. I like the idea of the oracle's visions and the hints gleaned from the familiar being tied together. It will be a plot hook, more than a force to drive a campaign, but could definitely turn into a fun story-arc and intro to the world. :)

Sorry, forgot to write familiar in on the profile. I'll do that now.

Okay everyone, the link to the OOC discussion will be: HERE.

@Vess'Sothek, Rsss'tak, Djatrix, Palag, and Yochtanl: as long as the 5 of you finish character sheets and backstories, you'll comprise the core of Group A. I may allow another 1-2 to join the group in the future, but otherwise, folks will have to join Group B (whenever I decide to start it up).

Tribal-themed adventurers ftw. :)

I think I posted in the wrong thread. Just to let you guys know I added my background to my profile

Comments very much welcome

Hello! I've been trying to get into a pbp for a week now and my brother (Yochtanl) recommended this one for me :D Currently, I am working out a character with him. Right now I'm considering making a human blight druid who wants to work with the lizardfolk of the group to cure the Rift :D

Welcome, Zazaleto. Get me a character sheet and a backstory soon, and I'll look it over. Other than one player, char sheets look good (he need to finish his). Druids make nice fill-in-the-gap characters (healer, melee, mage, stealth).

Kk, I'll try to get it in asap, however, my sheet is currently saved under my brother's account on the computer and he doesn't get off from work for 2 hours. When he gets back I'll finish it, all I have to do is equipment and a backstory.

Would you be okay with creating a new account, or saving it to yours if you have one, so I've got some reassurance that it's not one person playing 2 characters?

Looks like my brother left the sheet on my desktop so I finished him XD

As for backstory, I'm still fleshing him out. I'll have that up as soon as I finish :D also I would appreciate some ideas since I still don't know much about the world yet XD

Go to the Campaign Website. It is still under construction, so feel free to ask questions.

By "saved on his account", he meant on my profile on the computer. I know it seems fishy, what with him using the same character sheet and such, but after I talked on about this PbP he wanted in. TBH, he's rather new to playing Pathfinder, but I helped with character creation, and I can give pointers, so he should be fine. Hopefully he can get his RP into full steam. :P

Is he familiar with 3.5 at least? If so, have him finish a character sheet. I'd like him to have his own account at the very least. Either he is real or you are willing to put in that little extra effort to lie to me. :)

If he's not familiar with 3.5, even, then I'm going to have to say not right now. He's more than welcome to follow along, and join in on a few adventures with the party until he's up to par. However, magic-user (with a companion, possibly) isn't likely the best starting class.

From what I've seen, this is a clever and intriguing campaign setting. I note you're pretty well set for players, but I'd be interested in submitting a traull of some sort (perhaps an alchemist or other craftsman). As I tend to write up supplementary and support characters, I suspect I would fit in well with the existing dynamic.

ACK! Sorry about the confusion! This is a separate account from his. Sorry about that! DX

As for Pathfinder, I am very familiar with 3.5 as it is the only version I've really played. Granted I've never really got far in a campaign, I'm willing to try my hand at one on here. :D

Feel free to submit. I have room for 1-2 more, then I need to cut it off. And one player still has not given me a full character sheet.

Even if this group becomes full, you could be member 1 of group B if your character is put-together correctly.

Luckily this game doesn't really go past 7th level, so it shouldn't be hard to keep track of. Read over the combat section of the Core Rulebook, the changes to classes, etc. Familiarize yourself with the CMB and CMD, as well as the house rules on the campaign wiki (link on my profile).

Stratos on the alias for this campaign now.

It seems my previous post was eaten, so I am just going to put the gist of the story in Vess'Sothek's profile.

We should probably tie the Lizardfolk stories together, so if you have any pointed ideas now my story is up (in the profile), please say so! Otherwise, I was thinking to play the curiosity angle of the warrior caste with him.

I've already looked over somethings about the campaign and such, will do a more detailed look tonight or tomorrow morning.

I won't be able to post a backstory until later tonight as I have work in 20 minutes @.@ sorry about the delay.

Players still applying, please keep posting here.

Okay, I like what I see, but there are a number of things I need to have you fix:

>First, your Powerful Build should leave you closer to 7’11, and I'd appreciate you listing your body weight.

>Backstory: Please alter the names of the lizardfolk in your backstory, as per my previous post.

>Racial Abilities: Don’t forget to list your Monstrous Anatomy racial trait.

>Profile Format: The way you've formatted your profile is a bit hard to read through. No need to Spoiler your math (AC, Initiative, etc.)… just put it in parentheses. All your stuff is in odd sections.

>AC: Touch AC is 12. Natural armor does not apply to touch AC.

>CMD/CMB: You need to list your CMD and CMB. (Don't forget your 'Large' size bonus.)

>Attacks: Include your attack bonus for your claw and bite attacks. Both sets are Secondary Natural Attacks (p. 302 Bestiary). -5 to attack, 1/2 Str bonus to damage (claws: +0, 1d6+2; bite +0, 1d4+2).

>Skills: I’d appreciate if you’d reformat your skills section. While your arcane method of notating skill ranks may work for you, I’d prefer a more familiar format to make my job easier. Feel free to spoiler your version for your own reference. I’ll look them over again when you do.

>Class features: Give a brief overview of what they do, for ease of reference (list the skills Fav Enemy applies to, maybe even in your skills section too, and make a note in your combat section nthat you get +2 atk/dmg vs animals; make a note in Skills section about Track).

>Equipment: You need to make sure you can afford all your large weapons (and armor is not large, just x2 cost for monstrous anatomy). Use the average wealth chart in the Core Rulebook and compare. Also, you need to list your items’ weights (encumbrance) & carrying capacity. You may treat yourself as Large for carrying capacity.

I LOVE Landrith, and will make him an NPC in the world now. Likely a regular traveler through Riftview, too...

That's okay. I'm curious to see how a Calistari becomes a druid in the borderlands... :)

A few things I noticed on your Char sheet:

>I would recommend Craft (alchemy) over Prfoession (herbalist), as the Profession skill is likely not going to be very useful, and Craft (alchemy) and Knowledge (nature) functionally serve the same purpose, and untrained your Profession is a competent +3. You're free to keep it though.

>Equipment: Your Explorer's Outfit has weight to it. May I ask why you chose tinder twigs over flint & steel? You are at a medium load, make sure your speed is notated (reduced from armor and weight carried...so you are moving at 15ft/rd, can still run x4, take an additional -3 check penalty, and your max Dex is +3).

>Speed: See above. You are moving at 15 ft/rd.

>Skills: See encumbrance penalty above. Your armor check penalty is -7.

Alright, I put the armor check penalty into the shield and the max dex in armor to make the stats appear correct. Sorry about that ^^; Will have up the backstory in a couple of minutes hopefully.

I think I'll stick with profession herbalist for now and build into craft alchemy later perhaps.

As for the tindertwigs, I like tindertwigs :D

Backstory:
When one is curious about the world, then tend to try and learn about it. That's how Benjamin was when he was younger. He was fascinated with the world around him and his parents helped indulge him in the experience. They lived in a small house outside of Riftview, about a mile outside toward the Rift. There, his parents were herbalist and alchemist, studying plants and using them as a way to create new medicine and potions. They liked explaining what and how plants were used in their research to their son. In time, Benjamin slowly began to learn much from his parents.

However, this life was not meant to be. One day, Benjamin's parents sent him out to fetch water for them. When he got back he found their house a burning inferno. The bucket of water slipped from his hands and he stared in disbelief. The 12 year old boy couldn't believe what he was looking at. He didn't know or understand what had caused the fire, but he knew what had happened. The Rift. Creatures from it must have attacked the house. His parents had warned him of the Rift. Powerful, evil creatures lurked in the Rift and now they had destroyed his home, his love, his life. Fleeing the scene in tears, he couldn't look back at the thing that used to be his house.

Alone in the wild, Benjamin knew no survival skills. It surely seemed like the end for him soon. It would have been like that, had he not been found by two wandering druids. They claimed the could hear nature told them of a child who had a tragic incident, claiming Benjamin was that child. They asked if they could help him, outstretching an arm to him. Benjamin didn't trust the people exactly, but they wanted to help and he didn't know what else to do. Reaching out to the hand, he accepted their help.

For the next few years, the druids taught Benjamin on their ways. Eventually, he learned to communicate to the Green Faith. Once he was 20, the druids left him, saying they taught him everything they could for now. He had to live for himself. Benjamin thanked the druids for all they did for him and watched on the plains as they left. With his new power, he was sure of one thing. He would take revenge on the Rift for what it had done years ago. With his knowledge of the druidic powers, he planned to cleanse the Rift any way he could. Going back into Riftview, after being away from civilization for so long, seemed alien to him. He had to find someone to help his cause.

Benjamin Korvon wrote:

Okay, while I like the backstory, some things seem odd. He is only a mile from Riftview. Even at night, the plateau is unmistakable, so why did Benjamin not run toward the town?

Perhaps he sought revenge in the rift, and tracked strange animal tracks toward the rift? Perhaps he headed toward Riftview, and no one would take him in, then he fled to the wilds where he met the druids? Perhaps the druids intercepted him on his way to town, and said they could help? I just need something believable.

Would you like me to add something like through the heat, confusion, and questions, his mind couldn't focus on what to do next and he fled the scene, or something like that? :D

Benjamin Korvon wrote:

That'd work. Thanks. Though, if you fled and anyone recognized you later.... ;)

Everyone. I'll be offline for 2-3 days, then posting sporadically for a week. Going out of town. I should be able to work offline for the rest of the Riftview stuff, and I'll have an in-character forum by Wed or Thurs. :)

Ok, added the backstory to my profile ^^ Finally done! Looking forward to the pbp now!

Actually, the armor and encumbrance penalties don't stack, you just take the worst of the two. From page 169 of the Player's Handbook:

PHB p. 169 wrote:

If your character is wearing armor, use the worse figure (from armor or from load) for each category. Do not stack the penalties.

So, your move speed would be 20', -3 ACP, and +3 max Dex. Unless I'm interpreting this wrong?

Sweet, thank you for catching that. I always though they stacked. :P My apologies. Did they stack in 3.5?

But ACP is still -4 (-3 Hide, -1 Shield).

Fate and Fortune wrote:

Right, I missed his shield.

It didn't stack in 3.5 either. In fact, it looks like they just copypasta'd most of the encumbrance stuff. Same exact wording.
