Marcus explodes in a hearthy laugh at the assaultron's comment "Who would know machines were capable of sarcasm?"

He draws his shield, holding it on his left while his right brandish Maria revving.

"Mutts or nuts, we can deal with it." says the Knight before following EH-RK

As the group follows the tracks into the woods you notice others start to converge on them, and then the direction changes - the converging tracks are considerably harder to follow, but you manage to continue following what you assume to be the other group of vault dwellers.

It's another hour or so, and the sun is fully up, when you start to see what you think are campfires in the distance.

If you beat the Stealth with Notice:
You're definitely being followed, but you're not sure by what - unless you raise

if you raise:
You can tell it's mostly humans, but you think you see one or two ghouls. They're carrying bows and spears and seem to have been following you for a distance but haven't raised them yet.

Alias use change because I'm merging threads, and going back to my original Overseer alias. People in the camp waking up will post here - everyone welcome Thomas, Badger, and Aeryicka.

Those of you in the village awaken to see it is already bustling with activity. The ghoul woman who found you seems to not have moved from her spot all night. It's pretty hard to tell how tired she looks, given her appearance as a ghoul, but her eyes don't seem to be heavy at all.

You can see a small market has formed in the larger covered platform in the center, and people are bartering goods there. At least one out of five people are speaking English, and there seems to be about that same ratio of people who don't appear to be fully tribal.

Spencer glances at the robot and narrows his eyes. "Hey Papa, mind telling your new blender to pipe down? Probably not best to broadcast our presence here." He lifts his new carbine to aim down the sights and keeps moving forward toward the campfires, slowly, ready to fire but not pointing the weapon directly at anything... yet.

As soon as Spencer lifts his carbine, arrows seem to shoot out of the trees from almost no discernible location. They all fall at your feet, but specifically most of them seem to fall right in front of Spencer.

"Trespassing," comes from somewhere behind you, but then another voice from in front of you calls out, "Drop weapons, raise hands, state reason, no hurt. Don't...then arrows poison."

If you made the earlier Notice rolls (since 3 haven't rolled):
If any of the other players make their notice rolls they notice there's about 9 of them, and if you raise, you notice spears hefted and bows taut.

When the arrows fall Papa was admiring his sword, and he didn't even realise they were being attacked -nor what arrows sre-.
He crouches to inspect them, completely oblivious to what they are "What kind of muttplant is this? Fitz, is this edible?!" but as he turns to ask Fitz, he sees his expression and understands.

"Sheathing" his weapon he crosses his arms over his chest and says "Where is Mac?"

Male Human | 3/3 Bennies | Parry 6, Toughness 9 (2) | Wounds 0 | Pace 5, Charisma 0

Spencer slowly lowers his gun and takes a step back. Fitz and Papa seem to have covered the "state reason" part of things, so the man only sets his carbine on the ground and raises his hands.

There is some whispering in the shadows, and a child of 11 or 12 steps forward from the trees ahead of you. He has a spear in his hands, and a confidence that really does not befit his age or stature...the kind of confidence that only comes from having nearly a dozen allies in the shadows. He's wearing some kind of leather outfit, but over it is a brightly colored outfit you can see covered by a dark cloak, seemingly to blend into the swampland and hide the bright colors.

He walks up to the group and tilts his head, slowly circling around them, silently looking them over. When he notices the Pipboy on one of the party members (Fitz, right?) he narrows his eyes. He circles back around to the front of the party and raises an eyebrow at Marcus in his power armor. "We don't know Mac. Five people and robot came in night. Three walk like fools. Left tracks. Three men, woman, and boy. One wears arm machine like you." He turns his head to she trees and yells something in a language you don't understand. There is a reply.

"Can take you to trading town. Many guards there. If you try to fight you die. Even metal not stop leatherback teeth. One warning. Fair?"

Assuming the party agrees, he turn and starts to walk towards the campfires you were heading to. As you walk along the swamp, you know the others are following you...they've made their presence more noticeable. They're mostly humans, but you take note of a couple ghouls among their group as well. They all seem to be dressed like the boy.

When the treeline clears, you see a medium sized village, with about twenty buildings, mostly raised platforms with pillars holding roofs made of leaves. A few traditional houses are also in the area, and the largest seems to be a marketplace, where some trading is going on. About 75-80% of the people here seem to be tribals, wearing the bright colors the boy had under his dark robe, but the remainder do seem to be outsider wastelanders. The boy nods to you all, "This Skin Village. What NeoSems let you see. Those who came last night watched by Colapawkin." he lifts his spear and points to a ghoul in the distance, leaning against a building's post, arms crossed, and eyes watching a group of humans sleeping in one of the raised platforms, with a Mr. Handy robot floating gently around it...apparently trying in vain to sweep all of the dirt from the platform, muttering to itself about filth and being unappreciated in a recorded British accent.

Sure enough, Mickey at least recognizes one of them, Badger Bloom, a vault rapscallion who got more than few citations when Mickey was a guard, but much less of a troublemaker than the rest of his family. And yes...there is a PipBoy on his arm. Whether the rest of you know each other is up to you guys, but Badger did specifically mention getting citations from Mickey (who probably would've known Kristophe too if he were alive, as a former guard as well).

Aeryicka looked around the small community. In the daytime, it had a certain beauty to it that she appreciated. Everything there had a place and function to it that allowed everybody to get on with business without any fuss, a lot like an old pre-war ant hive. As she wandered around, her eyes kept getting drawn to the tribals arms and armor, but before she could ask about them, another group, obviously not more tribals, walked into the large clearing.

Cautiously walking towards them, and taking note of the robot and power armor-clad man, she didn't recognize them until one greeted Badger. 'The previous group from vault,' she thought to herself as she got closer. 'Did better than us in surviving.' Walking up and standing next to badger, with her body still clad in the sleeveless vault suit and brown hair knotted and full of natural debris, she shyly held up her hand in greeting.

Cray, taking to raised hand as a sign that she needed him, and to make sure that the new prey didn't mean her any harm, alighted upon her shoulder and stared at the new group.

Dark Archive

Another man, of average height but remarkable good-looks, and wearing an honest-to-goodness pre-war business suit, follows Badger over. His expression seems cautiously neutral until he sees Spencer. A massive grin spreads over his face and he walks up to him.

"Ha! You old pirate I knew I'd see you again! Here I was worrying if I'd find you or your corpse, and here you guys find us! Well done!" Thomas shakes Spencer's hand vigorously and turns to look at the group, his manner not entirely unlike that of a politician trying to secure votes. "Hi all. I'm Thomas, Thomas Roland, but please just call me Tom."

A young boy, probably pre-teen, ambles up behind him. "Who are these guys?" he asks. "You act like you know them? Were...were they at the school before you?"

A younger boy who shares a look with the older one, follows the group, but lags behind a bit. At the scene of camaraderie he yells, "Ah F%*%! Who are these f!#%ers? More pansies that'll get killed by dog-f+~*ing mutties? They look like pussies. Let's waste 'em an' take their s%$#!"

Tom's mouth tightens in a patient grin. "This older boy is Jimmy, and that younger, pleasant-speaking one is Timmy. You'll have to excuse him, he was taken under the wing of one of our more foul-mouthed, crazy-talking, never-making-ANY-sense members. Guy was a real head-case. Real, real piece of work he was. Drank all our booze, hoarded and consumed all our drugs first chance he got.
Guy got killed giving us enough time to get out of a tight spot, so it proves that everyone can be useful."

The Mr. Handy floats up. He simply spouts out something that sounds like, "Oh dear, Mr. Roland. Well at least these gents look a small bit less dirty than you usually are. Oh and they have a Protectron with them! Bloody well good on 'em for that!"

Thomas is referencing three extras who had joined their party. They're going to be leaving the group - at this point the only NPCs who will stick around for any length of time will be ones that come as character features, like Aeryicka's bird, which she spent two edges on. With seven of you, you won't need any help, especially now that both halves of the team have a nice amount of money - If you're wondering a direction, I do believe both parties had different reasons to check out Kingdom. The late-vaulties had not yet been to Kennedy but just earned the B-License like the early-vaulties have, and now have a massive line of credit with the Brotherhood for rescuing Mac's commanding officer and squadron from...well, I'll let them tell you or you can read it yourself. EH-RK is actually an assaultron, though - he's just using the protectron base rules I made as it basically covers any bipedal robot. I broke robot up into three sub-races based on body type: protectron (biped), handy or eyebot.

Jimmy smiles slightly. "Well, I uh...don't want to interrupt the reunion. I'll take Timmy and go look around the village. See if that boy that was scouting wants to talk."

He grabs his brother by the shoulder and leads him off, and Timmy starts talking excitedly about the massive spear the ghoul was carrying last night, and how he could probably kill seven mutants with it.

The Mr. Handy floats up to EH-RK and begins to speak in a recorded British accent. "It is jolly good to see some civilization out here! I'm serial number 37489HZ395RQ-404, designated Warhammer by Mr. Roland, and programmed for cleanliness and the elimination of pests, both small and large. Oh, and if I may say, your hydraulics are filthy! But it is a swamp, so there is that. Still, it's nicer than being locked in a closet for a hundred years. Can I...can I scrub your bearings sir? Or is that rude, since we just met? It's been so long and there's a few pockets of data that have been deleted since Miss Estelle upgraded my drivers!"

Marcus let's the vaulties greet each other, switching on his feet as he gets even more nervous. When introductions are made, hands are shaken, yadda-yadda, he presents himself "So you even newer than Fitz, Spenc and Mike? At least you seem tough. Anyway, name's Marcus. Knight of the Brotherhood, and resident wall o'steel of the team. Any of you need some repairing... better call Fitz, but I can help."

"Now, I'll need you to answer a few questions. You all the squad that helped Mac? Where is he? We got radio'd by 'Hood operators with some confusing s#~! and I want to find out what the hell have Mac done and how the hell can I help him."

Kingdom seems a good place to go, but if I'm not mistaken there's a bit of an agreement about finding Mac first and figuring out what the hell's going on with the 'Hood first.

So we tailed them to an old rest stop and used an instant photo booth elevator to go down into a bunker. We sprang Mac's superior and the ladies, but Kristophe charged 'em like a madman and took a bullet in the forehead for his trouble. Unless you count retirement, our ghoul companion ran off once we were paid for killing that Deathclaw. Hopefully your fortunes have been similar?"

It should probably be noted thAt Fitz is clearly not one armed. He is the Nuclear Winter Soldier now, having had a cybernetic arm installed to replace it after it was crippled. Also most of your characters don't know what the Legion was, (the ones you encountered never referred to themselves by name) except maybe Marcus as Brotherhood West aided the Independent New Vegas ending for the story here (EH-RK is a recent reactivation he wouldn't know either), but you probably would be able to compare that the mutants both of you encountered were dressed like Roman footsoldiers. It's believed they faded in power after the deaths of Caesar and Lanius but Vegas forms a wall that kept NCR from wiping them out, and most people believe they destroyed themselves squabbling for power afterwards. Officially the group you ran into doesn't refer to themselves as the legion...and I know at last one of you heard them mention reporting to "the vice president."

"Tom!" Spencer eagerly takes the other man's hand, shakes it, and then pulls him for a mannish hug. "Oh man, great to see you. I mean, the circumstances aren't, but." He leaves it hanging and grins. "You know it'll take more than an apocalypse to take me out."

Spencer then listens in as the others discuss what's brought them here, and where to go next. "Sounds rough with Mac. Seems there's a pretty clean split in the Brotherhood between asses and nice guys--no offense, Marcus, you're definitely a nice guy."

He recognized most of them, of course. Working security kept you in the loop with damn near everyone. In particular, he looked at Badger with a look approaching affection.

"Well, circumstances being what they are, it's good to see you folks. Even you, Badger."

Mickey sighed internally though. It had been a big crop this year. Of course, that was to be expected, now that the body of that serial killing bastard was rotting somewhere in the hot zone.

No one except my old crew, know about the serial killer FYI. Most of the Vaultees should recognize Mickey as a tough but fair gentle giant on the security team.

As introductions and reunions were held, Aeryicka kept herself slightly behind the others she had been traveling with. With so many people around, she was becomming a little nervous, something Cray could tell. Flying off momentarily, he came back with a strange fruit. Giving it a small bite to taste it, her eyes widened before taking a bigger bite.

Yes, Cray just swiped a fruit from a vendor (if there's a food vendor here). Picturing a mutfruit, but if those don't grow here it can be something else, maybe a mutated orange or something.

"O-strange"? :-)

There's regular fruit in Fallout, too, you know.

As the bird comes swooping back in to drop a banana (we grow more than just oranges :-P), a vendor comes running, chasing after the bird with a broom in hand, yelling what you can only assume is profanities in their language. It's an old man, at least 80, and he stops when he sees Aeryicka, and blinks. When he sees her eating it, he shakes his head and finds a guard, tugs on their sleeve, and the talks a moment, before the guard walks over. "He say if you want food, ask. No steal. Hungry girl with only skin and bones need food."

You can all, in the meantime, see the brothers in the distance talking to the scout boy, as well as a few other children, and excitedly talking with them. Jimmy seems to be completely over the loss of Harper, as he's shyly chatting it up with a teenage girl while Timmy seems to be regaling the others with how to make a explosives out of common household supplies.

The ghoul Colapawkin seems to walk by and smiles at the group...a little too long at Thomas...and nods to them. "Am glad you found friends. Good for no radio here. If you leaving, road no place for children. Who parents?"

Warhammer seems to be hosing down a nearby dog with his fire combat protocol hose, muttering, "No! That is not for licking! Filthy beast" while a pair of villages watch him, talking to one another.

Aeryicka looked at Cray and said, "Naughty Cray, no take food from people. How much for banana?" The last is addressed to the guard. She could really use something more than beans, though she really didn't have anything to trade.

"Don't suppose they use caps here? We've still got some of those in store." Spencer shrugs and rubs his jaw thoughtfully. "You guys were thinking of trying to start a settlement, too, huh? I've been thinking, it'd be good to set up a place for folks like us. And everyone, but especially, you know, a good spot for the Vault to drop folks off in Lottery season, so they aren't just on their own. Not everyone can adapt, and not everybody makes it." He trails off, Spaulding's sacrifice coming back to his mind.

"Anyway, we were going to another Vault, heard it was mostly intact and would probably work well to start a town. Defensible, probably still has power and water and all, and it's already set up for living. Plus it'd be familiar for our folks. But seems like some of the Super Mutants have taken up there, and we weren't ready to drive them out just yet. Need bigger guns, more bodies, and a plan." Spencer grins and pats his carbine. "Looks like we're well on our way to two of those now, though."

"Yes, part of the reason we took on such a dangerous bounty was to acquire enough funds to kit us out for such a battle."

"And, ehm, that is an interesting companion you have there. A thieving bird?"

Mickey unslings his My Little Pony backpack, and removes an MRE from it. He offers it to Aeryicka.

"We got more food in the van," he tells everyone else. "No need for anyone to go hungry."

"And, yeah, the Vault was on our checklist. But I was hoping to swing to Tampa first. Some sort of weirdo advanced gun out there that can control people's minds. We were hoping to find it, and smash the bejeezus out of it before the slavers got a whiff of the thing. Frankly, something like that out in the world scares me something fierce."

"Do we have any business left here in the village? I'd like to buy some fresh fruit for the road, but other than that I feel teh longer we stay the more likely it is we offend the locals somehow."

Badger turns to Aeryicka.
"Do you want to see if they'll sell you a bow and some arrows here? I could hock these communion plates and cups for it. Up to you, though."

He gets a little awkward when Colapawkin's smile lingers on Tom, but tries not to continue the thought about that...

"Yeah, their folks are gone- dead. We gotta discuss with them what they want to do, since where we're going won't be safe. Would you all have room for them here? Jimmy's great at fixing stuff and Timmy will hopefully stop being such a little s&&* after a while..."

Dark Archive

Tom can't help himself, and as Colapawkin passes he falls in step with her. Softly he says, "What my companion means to ask, is if you could watch the little ones for a while? We're going to be doing some dangerous stuff now, and I can't promise their safety anymore. Jimmy is, truly, a genius, and will be a great help. And Timmy is a warrior in need of training. He will be a good sword-arm for your people.

Also will I leave for you the robot, Warhammer. He is equally good at defending his charges as he is at cleaning things. I'm certain once you find you have a motivated janitor that works 24 hours a day, you'll go from 'I have no use for that' to 'how did I ever live without it'.

What do you say?"

He admits that if she didn't have that jaw-thing he'd probably kiss her right now, here, in front of everybody. Of course, the missing ligaments in the jaw did leave more room for her to use that tongue....

As the ghoul eyes the vaultie Marcus simply says "Awkward." before walking close to them and sorting through his backpack.

Once he's found his caps he divides a thousand and using some spare clothes he stuffs them in a bag and hands them to Colapawkin.

Trying to put his most serious voice he says "Yo, I am Knight Marcus Edwards of the Brotherhood of Steel. I have killed bandits, mutants, beasts and deathclaws. You will use these caps to take care of them like they were yo childs, til we get ourselves a nice safeplace... but if you or anybody here does anything to 'em I will bring fire and steel to pay you back." he removes his helmet and with a smile Papa extends his big hand and asks "We friends or nay?"

After the "deal" is closed he turns and says "We goin' already or what? I want to resupply back at the Hood before Tampa, maybe even talk some f*@*in' sense into Mac's... he's a good man and my man, I don't want him or his boys out on the cold because of his big ass mouth, even if he's right."

Aeryicka shrugged her unoccupied shoulder as she accepted the strangely packed food from the man with the colorful pack. "Cray not steal before, not sure he know it wrong," she explained as she put the food into her own pack. "He is animal, though, he just find food and give to flock. But thank you for sharing." Looking around, and ignoring the casual interactions between Tom and the ghoul, she turned her attention back to the group. "What know about other vault other than filled with mutant?"

Spencer shrugs at Aeryicka's question. "Not a whole lot, honestly. We heard it was there, out near Gainesville, and we figured it'd make a good start for a settlement. We didn't know mutants were there until they ambushed us on the road. That was a fun time." The man grimaces, thinking back to the near-death experience shared by most of the team. "But if there's people there, even mutants, then it should be functional. We'd just need to get control."

Colapawkin listens to Marcus and Thomas and nods, and looks to the children. "They will be safe here. Keep caps. Robot will work debt."

Warhammer off in the distance floating pauses as his circuitry picks up the command. "Oh, yes, wonderful. The robot will work off the debt for the children, yes, that's just fabulous. Well, at least I don't have to watch them or let their sticky hands touch me anymore. Why won't this tree become clean?!"

Jimmy, hearing the news from Warhammer, eventually comes to say his goodbyes to the party for himself and Timmy. "He'll do well here. They like him already. He's....teaching them new words. I think I'm picking up the language a bit - it's got two variants, regionally, but they tend to blend them, though the grammar is a bit tough. I just want to thank you guys for saving us. Hopefully we will see you again without too much time. Be safe." He smiles shyly and kicks a plot of dirt and walks back off to join his brother and the other kids of the village.

Badger and Aeryicka, as well as anyone who wishes to shop, can find anything that is not technological in the area. This includes liquors that could be hand-made, healing powders or poltices, non-mechanical melee weapons, poisons, or non-pre-war foods, etc. The water is oddly pure in this region, and if you inquire you find it is because they practice rain gathering, digging wells to the aquifer below the surface (and thus not as affected by radiation), and other methods of renewal, rather than simply filtering the swamp water.

When the party finally gathers up to return to the van, they have no events (mostly because I want to bring the newly merging group an opportunity to gear up equivalent to the originals before giving you a combat, or boy would I be throwing some cazadores at you), and they're capable of making the long haul back to Kennedy via the remains of I-95.

Two more radiation resistance rolls (vigor if you have no bonuses from perks/etc) from the humans as you pass by the ruins of Miami) - if you fail Dr. Andrew in Dome can give you a radiation purge for 50 caps.

When you pull up to Kennedy, you note as usual that Jameson is posted outside by the fence at his usual spot running the trading alcove. The tents are set up as usual, and it seems like today's free meal for people bringing in trade is Green Gecko Goulash with noodles. For those who haven't been to Kennedy, B-Class traders get a free all-you-can-eat meal and a night's stay at the tents outside of the Brotherhood base once a month (never allowed to stay longer because they don't want to start a village) that incurs total protection from the BoS, as long as they bring in 100 caps of tech goods for trade they might be interested in - you could have bought some stuff in Dome if/when you stopped along the way - Dome is a Colosseum based town where Daytona once was built around the Speedway, with deathraces and gladiatorial battles - slavery is legal, but not capturing of slaves there, and most of the battles are done by slaves while the death races are usually people trying to make very big cash in a very risky manner; it's a dirty, gambling filled town, and while not very good, well guarded due to it's decent income.

Jameson (a scribe, and not the same from FO3 - it's a common last name and I totally forgot that was a chick in that game - this is a black man with a close crop cut and a clean goatee and an all-business attitude that is slowly melting with the group) looks up from his clipboard as the van pulls to a stop and smiles. "Hey, Big Papa and the Vaulties! You brought friends! Found some more vomit the vaults puked up, huh?" He pauses and his expression grows stern as he sees EH-RK. "Oh. You brought the robot back. That's...good. I suppose." He shakes his head and looks back to Marcus and the three he actually recognize. "How's that scouting going on? You find that vault you were looking for?"

"Oh, we...ahem...we discovered the communist...uniform. It's...well, the Russians and Chinese have started using lots of steroids, and other drugs that aren't sold by our...amazing pharmaceutical corporations that definitely still exist and most assuredly haven't been wiped out centuries ago by tons of nuclear fallout eliminating our major metropolises and bringing about irreversible damage to our ecosystem. They look like, okay, hey, one of you guys got a picture of a mutant back there? Or a ghoul?"

A knight runs off and comes back with some surveillance photos of ghouls and mutants and hands them to Jameson.

"Okay, EH-RK, check this - these..." he pulls out a picture of a super mutant, "These are the new Russian uniforms. Okay? They're almost all dirty stinky nasty disgusting communist bastards, straight from Stalingrad and wanting to make us have free universal healthcare and, god forbid, free bread. Can you believe that crap? They don't even read Ayn Rand over there, it's all Lenin and Marx. Absolutely disgusting. You may, rarely, I mean super rarely and probably not ever, meet one of these pieces of crap that isn't quite communist, but is definitely at least socialist, so you can probably fire at will at these pinko bastards." (Any of you who met Petey might want to explain a bit more to EH - remember, the BoS "officially" is kill any damn ghouls or mutants that get near us but "unofficially" is we recognize there are exceptions but it's safer to just kill them all for mutants and kill any that come into our territory for ghouls.

He pulls out another photo of ghouls and raises it up, "This is the new Chinese uniform, but you have to be careful, because some of them ain't Red China, but they're our allies in South Korea and Taiwan, but them Taiwaneese they look a lot like commies, because they're damn good spies - that's why we work with them. So lots of them are communists, but some of them ain't. You can tell because a Chinese Commie can't help but run at you as fast as he can, because he wants to taste your sweet, sweet freedom, and he really will try to take a bite out of your American soul. They love the taste of freedom. Our allies got freedom, because we gave it to them, so they won't come running at you like they're hungry for our delicious, delicious freedom."

Damn, that was impressive. Even I can't believe I pulled that one off. Jameson, you sly bastard.

Made the first one, so just 1 rad point, right? Also, are the windows in the van still there or are they all broken?

Aeryicka spent the ride silently in the back of the van, watching the alien landscape flow by and trying to keep Cray calm. As they finally arrived, she was surprised by the size of the place, though she had heard of the Center in some of her classes.

Surreptitiously, Badger will attempt to trade his golden altar dish and cups (500 caps) for 2 doses of Silver Sting poison and 1 dose of Tremble poison (500 caps total). If they don't want the altar dishes, I can hock the gecko skins we got.

When it's time to part ways with Jimmy and Timmy and Warhammer the Robot:

"Well, man, it's been... as good as we could make it. We'll drop by and see how you're getting along."
A manly hug ensues, where Badger whispers to Jimmy.
