The What
I am looking to run the Halls of the High King a FR module that Ed Greenwood wrote back in the day. I will be using the basic 5E rule set for this game.
The Who
I am looking for 5 to 6 PC to run this adventure for. For those interested, we'll be building 2rd-level characters using the standard array optional rule: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, and 8. This is basically for expediency sake. You can give me a good backstory that would be awesome.
The When
I will accept the first 6 if they have fleshed out PC. Suspense will be Friday this week.
The How
D&D 5th Edition Basic Rules available for free are here.
I will be using the playtest packet for Monsters for now, till I can get the MM.
Posting rate: at least once in 48 hours period, I understand that RL is busy. So lets have fun!

Backstory:
Evander was born amidst nobility in the once great (or great, depending on the time this is happening) city of Neverwinter. He grew up a happy and curious child, filled with noble but naive ideals about chivalry and justice. Evander grew up idolising the knights and paladins he saw go through the city and wished to one day join their ranks and "Bring peace and justice by the sword".

This all changed one night on the way home from a speech from the Lord(or Lord Protector) of Neverwinter. As the young Evander, at this time twelve, and his parents walked home through the dark streets of a Neverwinter night they were stopped by a man in a thin, loose cloak. "Hello?" his mother asked, "What did you think of the Lord..." he voice trained off as the man drew a dagger from his cloak. His hand shaking the man raised the blade and shouted "You Ruined Me!" as he charged towards Evander's family. When the Guards arrived they found a man and a boy pressed up against either wall of the alley, both crying uncontrollably, and two corpses lying on the ground in pools of their own blood.

The next day, when Evander finally stopped crying he explained the event to the guards, himself not sure it had even happened. Evander was half convinced this was all a nightmare, but deep down he knew, "this" was the world he lived in, not one or knights in shining armour, but one of murderer's in the alleys at night. Evander's uncle Darvin took custody of him, and they went together to see his parents murderer hung. When the event was finally over a realisation came over Evander, that the murderer's death did not ease his pain, this "Justice" he had always strived for did nothing to ease the pain of loss. It turned out the murderer had been a merchant that Evander's family had refused to deal with due to a shady background, and it turned out that understanding had no effect on the pain of loss either. Over the next ten years Evander grew up with his Uncle, a renown merchant, with no understanding of children. This was fine for Evander, for he was no longer a child.

In his time with Darvin he did two things, learned the arts of negotiation, persuasion and diplomacy, and tried to find an answer to his question, if "justice" didn't help the world become safer, what would. For ten years Evander spent his down time poring through the ancient tomes of every God he could find, certain that one of them would contain the answer to his question.

After ten years Evander finally found his answer in the Tomes of the goddess Eldath. Peace, peace was the answer he had so long looked for, not the peace of a military rule, not the peace of fear of punishment, but true peace, peace through happy co-operation. He finally understood that problem was not that his parents were innocent that made him feel loss, but the fact that they had died at all. Later that week, just after his twenty-third birthday Evander left Neverwinter and his Uncle in an effort to bring peace by diplomacy and support peaceful negotiations and compromise rather than violence.

It was two years later during negotiations with a goblin tribe near the town of Secomber that Evander was first granted his clerical powers. At the time he was hanging in a rough wooden cage above a large bonfire, while the leader of the tribe watched him be slowly lowered into the fire. Evander pleaded with the Goblin to free him, pleading that killing him would only destroy any hope of peace and that the militaries of larger cities would soon come to help their smaller neighbour. The goblin scoffed at these, saying that none could stand against the might of his tribe, but Evander tried one final plea, 'this is not what you want" he stated, almost in denial that after all this his life would end here. But to his surprise Evander felt a power in the plea, one he had never felt before, unbeknown to him he had just cast command, and the Goblin leader agree'd to his plea, and set him free. Soon Evander, with some help from this new power, had convinced the Goblins that peace with Secomber wasn't such a bad idea after all. Evander knew in a way beyond normal knowledge that this new power was clerical magic, he still does not know which God gave him the powers, but to Evander it is irelevant, he knows why he has the powers, and what he must do with them. He must bring peace to this world, whether it likes it or not.

@ Istiel the submissions close this Friday I am taking the 1st 5-6 who give me Submissions.

Will the game start off straight after submissions close of will there be a break time while you prepare? Also I'm unfamiliar with the module, what sort of combat-social-exploring ratio will there be?

The module will begin when everyone is ready. I had hoped to start running it on Friday night. The module will be fun one, the combat/social/exploring are evenly balanced.

Liberty's Edge

I am looking at maybe playing a Wizard. Just reading over the rules and such now.....

Well I wanted a decent AC, so I placed my second highest stat there (14), then got a +2 for being an elf! I thought I got weapon finesse at one point, but could not find the reference again (which would have made melee weapons a viable option). Again, being new to 5e please check to see I did not mess things up....it was a bit difficult as the info was sort of scattered all over...

If my class and background give me the same proficiency do I get double the proficiency bonus?

PS why do I only have three fingers?

Liberty's Edge

I blame those Duke boys for your missing digits!! Where's flash??

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Dang dawg been hiding under the porch since those dang Dukes blew up the outhouse.

Going to change the name before I get to 10 posts. I just couldn't resist when I read a common hobbit name is Roscoe.

Liberty's Edge

I like it...don't change it!!! Well at least keep the Roscoe part...lol

Here is my avatar....hope all is correct!

Finesse weapons use Dexterity for attack and damage. You don't need a feat for it. Actually they use Dexterity or Strength, whichever is higher.

I believe High Elves can use short swords which are finesse weapons.

thanks wicked_raygun! I knew I saw something about finesse in the rules, but could just not remember where or what!!

Wicked thanks for the help!

The recruitment is closed !

Here is the crew for this adventure! Go ahead and post in the discussion part!
Evandar - Cleric
Kolfax- Figher
Roscoe - Thief
Varis- Wizard

If only id seen thia 13 hours ago ! Good luck group!

Been travelling all day. I'll get a post with my profile up tomorrow.

We have opening for two players. The game so far has been slow and casual. Please see use the basic rules to draw up PC.

I would love to throw in a character, any preferred classes? I think i saw in the discussion that the cleric was mia, and i do love clerics.

That would work! Let me know when you PC is ready.

This is Paxs Cleric

Background:

Lynore grew up on the streets of Baldurs Gate not remembering much about her family, all she has is a copper ring that she was told by the urchin that raised her was from her mother.

When she was very young her foster mother died and she wandered the streets, learning to beg and steal, but never feeling quite right about it. A local guard Blynt, who loved to gamble came upon her in the street playing a game of dice. He noticed her deft hands and how fortune always seemed to favor her.

Instead of arresting her he took her to the local temple of Tymora where he was a member, and they took her and raised her until she was old enough to strike out on her own. She will never be able to repay the kindness that Blynt showed getting her off the streets before something horrible happened. She still rests with all her worldly possessions with her always ready to run, but is looking forward to let lady luck guide her on her path and maybe help out others that she finds in need.

What is the other missing person? Also, is the full book available?

We need a Cleric but I am opening up one more slot. I am currently asking my group if if they want to expand their PC with the PHB.

@Lynore I like it.

If there is a slot beyond the cleric one, and if I can use the PHB then I might be interested with a paladin that is basically a warden.

@Nohwear I see no problem with that post your PC.

We are need of rogue for our 5E game. See the character creation guidelines the PHB can be used as well.

What level?

I can have an Elven Rogue ready in no time. Do you still need one? How are you rolling ability scores, and what is staring gold...or should we be using the array and equipment in the PHB?

Filios we still need one and use the standard array 15,14,13,12,10,8 and use the gold as laid out in the phb or basic rules. 2nd level is the starting point.

Thanks, I will present the character with a completed profile by noon tomorrow, EST.

That will work

Starting Gold: 4d4 ⇒ (2, 1, 3, 4) = 10 X 10 + 15 = 115GP

Varis is complete per the profile. PHB only offers starting gold roll stats. Is there any additional gold that I would have based upon the fact that I am 2nd level? I did not see a average wealth per level table. Also, do you have a setting where this Pbp will be staged? I can write a brief story line when I know.

Hey now...we already have one Varis on this here ship!! LOL

Sorry about that - he is now, "Rolen". We do not have one of those, do we?
