Allarnon is ready to assist if no other ideas. "I can harden his flesh in case he is attacked by whatever he draws."

"No Layne. I remember what you did with Garridan last time but that was different. We don't want to split up the group now."

He turned to bear-man, "There's no need for it to fight anyone. We just need it to draw their attention and then just meld into the woods. That should be enough for us to sneak into the building. The bear can circle back later."

He looks at the bear, "Er... is that too difficult to convey?"

"I can try. His commands are much simpler than all of that you see. He will understand if I ask him to attack something specific or even to guard an area." Allarnon brushes next to Tarkir as he nuzzles the top of his head into the crook of his neck.

"Guard over by the set of trees over there Tarkir. Wait a moment and circle back around to us through this door." Allarnon points at the set of trees and then to the door with a clawed hand.

Releasing Tarkir, the bear bounds towards the western portion of the building, loudly trampling through the woods, uplifting small saplings and large swathes of undergrowth as he wads through the thick brush.

"We should move quickly."

OK, so Tarkir is going to try and draw their fire, while you lot charge the doors? Just confirming that's the plan. With Paizo particularly flakey today I'll post in the morning, but do let me know if that's not the plan. :)

When Allarnon indicates, Kaylayne will sneak forward toward the doors.

With Tarkir hopefully drawing their attention, we will try to 'sneak' (not charge) into the building.

As Tarkir crashes through the woods Allarnon follows closely behind Kaylayne and Dimitrio as he attempts to be as quiet as possible.

Tarkir rushes forward through the underbrush and breaks through the tree-line heading southwest to draw fire away from the party. But draw fire he does, as two drow pop up and shoot at the lumbering beast with their hand crossbows.

The second die roll of the first shot is fire as the bolt explodes in a small, but powerful, alchemy fire. It goes out almost as soon as it starts, but it burns none the less. The second shot, by a different drow, is the usual poison…

The rest of the party starts creeping up to the doors when Allarnon steps on what must have been a small tree, and snaps it in half. Sure you’ve been heard, the rest of the party rushes toward the building.

it’s 60’ of ‘open’ but difficult terrain. I’m going to rule that Allarnon made noise early in the process and that set you all double moving toward the door (no real stealth as you were already blown). I’ve put you on the map in accordance with that plan.

As you close, you see two drow at the edge of the roof, reloading hand crossbows and looking toward Allarnon clambering to the doors below them.

Cringing as each branch snaps Allarnon looks back bashfully. His head snaps to Tarkir's direction as the bear makes a sound of pain.

"TARKIR COME!" He bellows "Find cover"

Tarkir quickly turns back and bounds back towards the group as quickly as he can while Allarnon closes his eyes and begins to growl. The rumble from his growl begins to increase in intensity as a small storm cloud begins to form overhead.

Lief flicks a formulae down his throat, bringing his familiar barrier to bear against the drow Cast Shield. Then another, bringing his crew unbelievable speed Cast Haste.

With both things in place before covering the distance to the Library of Dust, Lief listens to Ederin, advancing on the door, and examining it for ease of entrance. Should it be locked, he produces his tinkering tools, and attempts to unlock the door.

Allarnon, you forgot to roll a fort save for Tarkir vs the Drow poison.

Ederin drops one and wings the other as the party closes with the building. Dimitrio tries to tag him with his ray, but the cover from the edge of the roof is enough to make him miss (as is the high dex of the target). Kaylayne also has trouble finding her mark as she throws a pair of rocks at the drow. Lief prepares himself, and then the party, as he rushes the door. Once there he looks for traps and does not find any. Even hasted he does not reach the door in one round so he’s out of actions after looking for traps and has not yet started on the door (move to close, move to search for traps). Allarnon calls Tarkir back and he returns, having resisted this dose of drow poison. Allarnon begins to cast a spell.

Two more drow can be heard on the roof, and Allarnon can see them over the edge as they shoot him, trying to stop his, they presume, summons. The other shoots Ederin before also stepping back from the edge. (Ederin and others, to shoot them you’ll need to move 15’ or so away from the building to get an angle where you can see them.)

Lief doesn't bother looking over his shoulder, as he continues to assess the doors. "I'm only trying to make an entrance for us all, Dimitrio. I'll gladly wait for everyone to enter, all at once. Unless we're alright taking fire from above. I hope there's a way up to the roof once we're inside."

If the door appears locked, unaware of any traps, he begins working on it, hoping to make easy work of it.

The door opens easily, and you can see into the chamber beyond on Lief's init. So Allarnon can see before his init and everyone else after theirs.

Lief and Allarnon initially, everyone eventually:
The dimly lit lobby of this building is obscured by rubble and debris; scattered on the floor are dozens of crumbling books. Thick sheets of webbing cover one entire side of the chamber, concealing what lies beyond. There is a set of double doors on the far wall presumably leading back out, and doors to the north and south as well. Something stirs in the webbing.

There is no light on the interior but what comes through the door, so dim light.

Ederin curses as a bolt bounces off his breastplate and he moves back to get a better view of the drow above, taking up position behind Allarnorn. He fires a single arrow at whichever drow is closest.

Tarkir finishes running beside Allarnon just as his spell completes. A blinding flash erupts in the air just above followed by a thunderous crack as a searing bolt of lightning strikes the drow on the roof.

Call Lightning Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 1) = 9

Peering past Lief into the room Allarnon notices movement. "Careful! Something is moving inside."

"Tarkir Guard him." Allarnon waves a massive paw in Lief's direction.

Ederin backs off to line up his shots, but misses his target. Dimitrio lines up the injured drow and connects though the drow seems to resist the magics and the attack does no damage (SR). Kaylayne hurls a few stones and would have hit if it weren’t for cover. Lief flings open the door easily and brings out his grand light source. Allarnon summons lightning hitting the wounded drow.

For future reference, all drow have spell resistance. You can make the roll or I will if you forget.

Yeah, sorry about that... The spell sizzles on the injured drow.

Someone on the roof swears undercommon as their darkness spell fails to block Lief’s light. There is some darkness to the east, but none where Lief’s stone shines (no effect on this combat I think so I’m not going to draw all the various light/dark bits on the map for now).

The other two line up their shots and do what they can to pin down the spell caster - Dimitrio!

Meanwhile, spiders pour from the webbing and charge at Lief (not a swarm, three giant spiders (medium), scurry along the walls and ceiling at you). One stops to throw a web around Lief while the other two attack!

The bard once more looks at his new ring to see if something good comes out of it. "Last time this sucked so one more chance..."

Ederin launches a barrage of arrows to the roof, but lady luck does not smile on him and he only hits once wounding the drow further. Dimitrio also manages to hit once kiling him outright. Kaylayne just misses with her stone as she moves up. Lief launches a fireball in the entry chamber to devastating effect! Many webs burn as do the spiders in them. Allarnon calls lighting from the sky wounding a drow as Tarkir bites into a bitter spider killing it.

Ederin connects once with the wounded drow who drops. Dimitrio helps Lief get clear of the webs. Kaylayne displaces Allarnon though he reappears a moment later on the roof, safe and sound. Lief, with Dimitrio’s help, gets clear of the webs. Allarnon finishes off the last drow on the roof while Tarkir finally gets the best of the already cooked spiders.

"Allarnon? You there?" Kaylayne calls up, hopefully without having to be too loud. "Toss down the drow bodies and bows, won't you? And see if there is a way down..." Kaylayne asks before realizing she is being stupid.

She climbs up after Allarnon and tosses down the bodies to Ederin and Dimi.

"Might have some arrows for you, Ederin."

She will see if she can easily see a hatch or ladder down inside the building.

He gathers up whatever hand crossbow ammunition he can, then joins Dimitrio at the door to investigate the interior without as much venom.

Allarnon grabs ahold of the drow bodies in his teeth. Twisting his head he hurls each of the bodies over the edge of the roof.

Stepping to the edge he peers down. "Yea, I am alright. Here are the dark skinned elves." The bodies thud into the overgrown ground below. Crumpling in awkward positions.

Looking around he doesn't see a lot of ways down for a bear and drops from the building.

He looks back to Kaylayne. "You see a way down?"

Down below Allarnon can still hear Tarkir tearing into the spider's bodies. Ichor quickly spreads all over the bears fuzzy face.

Lief hisses up at the reckless bears on high. "At least remove the bolts from the bodies before you toss them!!" The young man hopes they hear reason.

"They were shootin' bolts but if they got arrows I'll take 'em. Almost down to the expensive ones." Ederin stands where he is until the bodies have been tossed down, just in case anything explodes. Once landed he'll sort through their belongings looking for anything they can use.

"We supposed to signal the elves or meet them somewhere else? Damned if I can remember?"

"I don't think we're done here, Ederin. There is more to this building, I think." Kaylayne waits for the bodies to be looted while scouting from the roof.

She enchants 6 more magic stones, sighing at how often she missed.

This has not been my war yet. I have yet to do anything except puke. And that was on myself.

At the sound of falling bodies and potential loot, the bard backtracks and helps his companions with searching the drow.

Looking quizzically at the bear-man up on the roof, Dimitrio shrugs his shoulders and gets back to the dead drow.

At Ederin's question, he adds, "We're supposed to clear out the building. They said the army would be coming in about an hour behind us and then we fall back to base camp. Is that what you all remember? Lief, did you write anything down?"

Seeing no easy way down Allarnon creeps to the edge of the building. After a few false tries he finally leaps into the soft underbrush.

Shaking it off he walks in beside the still feasting younger bear. "Come Tarkir." he says calmly.

Tarkir quickly releases the mangled corpse and rushes beside Allarnon and begins sniffing around the area. "Did you find any of those poisoned arrows you spoke of?"

"Let's be done with this before another patrol shows up." Allarnon follows Lief through the doors.

There is a rope ladder that can be lowered, though I’m not completely sure a large bear could climb it easily. Not worried about it though as you could always wear the spider climbing boots briefly to get down because magic. :)

You find a half dozen of the fire crossbow bolts (do an additional d4 fire damage one time) and 4 more of the poisoned ones. Also several more normal bolts - but no arrows for Ederin. You also find four potions of cure light wounds and miscellaneous other gear. Oh, one of the soldiers was wearing a mithral chain shirt. Might want to keep that…

While the party is going through the loot however, the double doors to the south open, revealing a cluster of drow. A tall woman in the back looks at your picking over the bodies of her brethren. ”Ahhh, I see the elves have resorted to mercenaries. Truly they must be desperate” she sneers. She wears full plate and carries a heavy shield.

She none the less casts a spell, and a shimmering whip appears in thin air and snaps at Allarnon.
