Garridan returns to a mid-guard position, rapier extended before him as he watches Dimitrio skewer the tall man. Astonished that their opponent does not fall, he recovers and thinks I need to cut him off before he gets away Garridan continues to be uplifted by Cayden's blessing darting through the crowd like a hound on the scent.

...and then Demitiro closes with him and drops him cold on the ground. A light cloth flutters from his hand onto the stairs. Little more than a handkerchief really.

Eredin, Kaylayne and Lief to go!

Kaylayne moves forward near the crowded scrum trying to escape. She debates swimming into the people but stead tries to make sense of who is who and what is what.

Maybe I *am* supposed to help here. Maybe...which piddlespot tried to steal my tips?!

Kaylayne grits her teeth, looking for the voice...that voice...the one who tried to rob her.

He points to his bleeding side, then points at the rearmost aggressor. "And that one, he's part of this, from what I've gathered."

The young man uncorks his vial, and quaffs it, hoping its power is enough to stop his bleeding. Sadly, it falls short of fully restoring him to health.

"Both your bosses are dead or dyin'. If you was paying attention when I shot your red head than you know I'm dangerous. You stay put, wait for the gendarme, or your're pigmeat!"

Intimidate: 1d20 ⇒ 16

Roll 20 Map

Garridan charges forward, provoking from the wizardling as he tries to cut him off. Ederin drops back and grabs his bow as he makes a parting shot at one of the thugs. (intimidate is a 1 minute action or a standard action - neither of which you have left, but I'll take it into account as role play) Dimitrio also moves up and stops the green robed man in his tracks. A bloody deed indeed! Kaylayne moves up and spies her assailant. Lief notifies a guard and tries to hold his innards in as he receives little healing.

Dimitrio:
Your header bar says you’re a ranger. :) Might want to drop that completely to save some space. Oh, and for the record, I don’t know how to do two line things in the bar either.

The bouncers and guards begin to bring order to the remaining gamblers and other staff, though there aren’t many left. The green guard nods to Lief and calls out to the thug Kaylayne has also spotted (pink), ”You there, red bag, the red bag, hold it right there!” as he wades into the crowd after him.

The two guarding the chest burst outside and rush into the crowd. They grow panicked as they cannot find their quarry. You can just see them in the crowd look at each other, nod in agreement, and flee into the night, clearly worried about what Saul will do to them for failing in their duties.

The orange thug, drops the body of the red haired woman and the arrow twists in the neck. He makes haste through the crowd and into the night.

The purple thug and the pink thug, acting as just more party-goers trying to get out, slip past the guards outside, and try the same with the party. The purple thug in particular tries to shy away from Ederin, making him more visible to the others - everyone but Ederin gets a +2 circumstance bonus to identify him in the crowd. Kaylayne has a +2 circumstance bonus vs pink as she's been trying to watch him.
purple stealth: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
pink stealth: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

The Round 2 stuff at the bottom should have a header to make it clearer, but those are when things happened that impact the party long term. Usually things the party has done for themselves, but not always.

And yes, you missed your AoO and connected with your main swing which dropped him. I'll be clearer. :)

Garridan points pink out to Dimitrio, and anyone else who can both see him point and hear him (+2 circumstance bonus from the aid is fine). Ederin grabs his bow and heads outside to see if anyone else might be visible. Dimitrio stops inspiring the party and prepares to attack anyone he can perceive. Kaylayne tries to stop pink in his tracks. Lief wades in, also pointing out pink (circumstance bonus here too, but they do not stack).

Will vs Daze for pink: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (20) + 0 = 20

Garridan bends down and stops the bleeding of the poor man at his feat (if that wasn’t your intent let me know, it was a little unclear). Ederin takes a shot at a fleeing thug and stops him in his tracks. Dimitrio kills a surrendering man. Kaylayne moves up and into position to help having finally cleared the crowd. Lief tries to heal an injured man, only to find him stable.

…and we’re out of initiative.

Saul comes bursting out of the back by the cages and bellows, ”What in the name of the seven hells is going on here!”

You look around the room, and the effect of the raid, while short, is devastating. Tables overturned, broken games, blood everywhere. Some of the staff has fled and of course very few die hard gamblers remain of the original throng. Yes, the evening is certainly over for poor Saul.

Many of the guards and staff that remain try to give reports, but they’re jumbled and confusing as the guards, and most of the staff, were blind for the beginnings and so stories vary wildly.

The green guard is the only one with any confidence, having snagged himself (with your aid) a participant in the raids. He gives the clearest report, and praises Kaylayne and Lief in particular as having helped against the raid, ”There were some others with them as well, but they’re outside.”

Saul gathers himself quickly and leaps to the central platform with a swiftness you wouldn’t expect with such a large frame. He speaks to the remaining gamblers, growing restless. His large voice fills the hall, ”Ladies and gentlemen please! Obviously tonights event has been cut short, but do not fear! I will pay you 110% of the value of your remaining chips! Just make your way to the cages,” he gesture to the southwest, ”…and we’ll honor what you’ve won so far!”

He seems to be doing his best to put a brave face on the day as he steps down from the dais and begins to give orders to the guards. He then strides over to the entrance, and the party. ”Please, stay a moment while I clean up this mess,” he says with a gleam in his eye that shows a man not yet defeated, ”…so I may thank you personally.”

His gaze lights on Kaylayne for a moment with some surprise, but he moves quickly away to tend to the clearing out of the remaining guests and collection of the many chips, and a little cash, still on the gambling floor.

Garridan nods his head in acknowledgement at Lief's remarks. "I think this one is a mage, motioning to the tall man on the ground. He begins searching the man and continues,"He dropped something on the stairs, and I picked it up." Waving people over. "Come take a look at it while I search him."

Roll 20 Map

Garridan holds up a small scrap of cloth, barely large enough to blow one’s nose, but it looks for all the world like the chest, chains intact, in mostly two dimensions and made of a fine linen cloth.

As he begins to search the still breathing wizard one of the guards tries to stop him, ”Hey there, he’s our prisoner now, hands off.” but he’s silenced by another from inside, ”No, let ‘em loot - Saul said it’s OK”

Garridan finds a wand, a sickle near the body, a fine set of bracers, delicately carved, a spell component pouch, a dagger, 33gp in assorted change, and 5gp in house chips.

Presuming you also search the dead woman’s body, you add to your haul with 17gp in assorted change, 3gp in house chips, a light crossbow with 10 bolts, a dagger and a simple rapier (dropped inside). She also has some very fine leather armor - do you remove it?

Dimitrio is deflated. While no stranger to violence, he abhors unnecessary killing.

He looks at the man who had just surrendered and nods. "May Desna uplift you in the after life."

He sees the others looting and adds, "Let's take her armor since she won't be needing it."

Dimitrio then heads over to Garridan and inspects the cloth with the chest inprint. He casts a simple spell to find out if it's magical...

For some reason, yesterday's afternoon posts did not register on my screen. I thought it odd that more than few passed without anyone posted. Sorry.

Kaylayne edges over to Garridan as the man loots, offering hands to help hold anything of interest.

"They said you guys could keep this stuff, huh?" Kaylayne says, mostly to confirm what Saul said to herself.

"A wand, huh?" Kaylayne holds up the wand in front of her, her eyes puzzling over it. "Lemme...try..." Kaylayne says, hesitantly whispering the few words arcane power that she knows. Cast Detect Magic.

She looks first at the wand, then at whatever else might present magic.

"I don't know much, but these might be..."

Garridan searches the tall man gathering up his equipment. Hmmm, interesting, he thinks as he examines the wand. Perhaps one of my companion can figure out its use. No sooner does he think this when the Bartender appears and starts examining the wand.

Turning to Dimitrio he asks, Do you really think it's the chest? If we figured out how to release it we'd have it made. Well, as long as Saul didn't find out. Looking at his companions he concludes, I don't think any of them are good at keeping secrets. Plus, I owe Saul for his unwitting help. "Best tell Saul what we found."

No worries Dimitrio, it happens. :)

Kaylayne:
Wand of Magic Missiles with 9 charges, Bracers of Armor +1, Leather Armor... magical, but you don't know what bonus.

Watching the others paw over the belongings of the thugs they took down, Ederin nods his agreement with Garridan and looks over at one of the guards by the door.

"You hear that mate? Better call Saul, he's gonna want to see this!"

He moves close to inspect the cloth with the image of the chest on it and rubs his chin.

"Never heard o' no spell like that. Makin' things paper? Glad he didn't use it on us."

"Saul's guys are gonna be cleanin' this mess right? Let's tell 'em we want the armor, they can take it off, maybe even clean it up a bit. A couple pieces is one thing but pulling the armor off a dead woman out in the open seems a bit rude, eh? Even Riddleport has etiquette of a sort."

He watches Kaylayne inspecting a few of the items removed from the tall man and his men and muses about how she seems less and less like your typical barmaid as this day goes on.

Lief looks a little abashed as the short man points out the obvious. "I tried to defend myself, but..." couldn't bring myself to strike out at an actual person, not a training dummy, not something that has the ability to return the strike one more time, and lay me low.

He eventually sees the redhead, saddened that she had to come to such an end. Riddleport is turning out to be a very unforgiving place.

When Garridan waves the cloth, Lief moves in to gain a closer look. He turns it over, studying it for consistency. For what he might make of it, under the circumstances, he brings forth what he knows.

Lief lifts his eyes, taking in Kaylayne, who also seems intent on knowing more about the various items of possible salvage from the dead.

"You there. Barmaid. I didn't get your name. Mine's Lief. Would you be interested in looking more closely at this? It appears to be the chest, converted into cloth through magic." He holds it out to the woman, expecting her to take it.

Lief nods, then waits for the excitement and the Gold Goblin to settle down.

"Yeah, whatever," Dimitrio shakes his head as he looks at the cadaver one more time before turning to other matters.

He winces at the sight of his blood and weaves his fingers to remove the stain and tear from his shirt. His muscles would have to wait. He gingerly rubs his injured shoulder as he waits for Saul to talk to them. Although they haven't seen me dance, I hope my swordwork will get me a job.

Kaylanye hands back the wand and bracers to Garridan.

"I think that wand shoots unerring missiles, but it may not work for me. And the bracers are magic, useful in emulating weak armor for some," Kay says, looking over her shoulder toward her bar, making sure it isn't being ransacked. "The armor is also magic, I think."

Kay's eyes flick out the front door, looking for something she hopes is not there.

Kaylayne takes a look at the hanky, offering her hand for it. "People call me Kaylayne, or Layne, or, in places like this, barmaid is pretty accurate."

She does speak and has some basic understanding of magic, Garridan thinks about the taciturn barkeep. "Thank you Layne," he says as he realizes just how little he knows about his new companions. Addressing the group, "Perhaps we should grab a seat and talk before Saul calls for us."

It's a Shrink Item spell. Just throw the cloth against a hard surface and presto - the chest of silver is back!

You do have a few moments more or less alone on the front steps before Saul returns. Feel free to chat.

"Kaylayne, I think you hold the very chest that was targeted by the attempted theft. Hold onto it until Saul finds the time to join us, then slap the cloth on its original platform. That should restore it to its former dimensions." Lief smiles at the audacity of the mage and his pack of thieves.

Lief pulls up a chair, and checks his side. Glad to be seated, he holds the table a moment as he takes a good look at his injury. Not sure how this will go over with Bert. Foolish promise to Mum to see me unharmed the whole duration of the trip. He looks over at the door, then back to the others sitting down as well.

Ederin listens quietly as Lief and Kaylayne discuss magic. It was a subject he still didn't have a clear opinion on. When the young man explains how to retreive the chest his eyes go wide. Spell like that woulda been handy more than once in my life. .

"Where's a barmaid learn magic anyway?" He asks Kaylayne, as he nods in agreement with the priests suggestion to talk.

"And while we're at it, what're you all s'posing Saul wants with us? If it was reward he'd have given it in front of everyone. I figure if he's still playin' at goin' straight it ain't askin' us to get revenge."

"We'll find out soon enough." With a puzzled look he asks, " A better question might be who besides Saul benefits from us thwarting this robbery?"

Looking around he notices Lief looking at the wound in his side and asks, How bad is your wound, do you need healing?

Dimitrio shrugs, "Beats me; I'm new here so I have no enemies." I sure hope my former entertainer's troupe hasn't found me yet.

At the mention of healing, the bard pipes up, "I could use some tending to. The first thug got a cut on my ribs. You can heal?"

tag?

The bard raises his eyebrows, "So how much do you all think that chest is really worth? You reckon Saul is a generous man?"

tag?

"I don't know much. I used to spend a bit of time working a small town inn. Lots of bored people in a small down spend a lot of time in a taproom. They storied, I listened. They showed me a few things...but I don't know much," Kaylayne answers, inwardly wondering what would happen if she slapped the hanky on someone.

"I can't fathom this magic, however, nor that of the armor. I know a bit more than a piker's tricks," Kay's eyes dart to Dimitrio then away as quickly. "I know enough to keep myself out of trouble and enough to protect myself when I need to, but that's it."

Kaylayne looks over to see if Saul is ready for them yet.

"Saul? Nah, I hope I don't get fired over this. I didn't do anything wrong."

"Reward's the most likely, don't you think? Perhaps he seeks to avoid encouraging folks not already in his employ from trying to save his hall from future grand robberies by addressing us outside the public eye." Lief considers Ederin's conclusion. "The letter we were given was quite specific. Do you suppose it was Saul himself who sent for us? Two guards were involved in the attempted heist, so perhaps he hired a mage who divined our success, and called for our presence?"

"How much does it cost to hire a mage, I wonder?" Lief laughs. "Looks like Saul already did, he just didn't know she's be wearing an apron."
