Dimitrio Carini |

Dimitrio is always ready to meet new people, the fact that it's supposed to be wizard is a bonus.
He follows his companions to meet this woman. After some small chit-chat, the bard is blunt, "So, how is that you can help us? What exactly are you passionate about? Do you dance by chance?"

Ederin Valenta |

Ederin follows the rest of the group to meet their new partner, a bit anxious and more than a little suspicious that this might be the result of his poor work week.
When he sees her, he nods curtly, Ederin, please to meet you."

GM_Euan |

She seemingly drifts over your lawlessness. Perhaps in a city as corrupt as Riddleport, she assumes it’s natural. ”A book trader? So you want to arrange an exchange, or simple purchases? We are, as you may imagine, hungry for books and we have an extensive pool of scriveners.”
I do not intend to deal with the details of the negotiation. That will be a hand wave. Tonight you made contact and began negotiations. You’ll need to return 3 times to finalize the deal which will happen organically over the next few weeks.
You have time to research 2 topics before dawn. As this is a library, you can do research out of your fields without the ’10’ cap. Some topics have circumstance bonuses. Riddleport law has a +4. What’s your other topic?
The party descends from above back to the crowded gambling hall below. Smaritha is seated at an empty card table playing with a short stack of chips. She sits upright, and her eyes dance among the crowd watching, absorbing, enjoying. She smiles at people as they go by, and even chats briefly with a man looking for a card game. He walks away amiably and finds a seat at another table.
As you approach, she sees your determined strides, makes a guess, and stands to greet you. ”Good evening. I’m Samaritha Beldusk, at your service. Larur suggested I wait here a while so we can chat. I presume you’re Saul’s ‘Gendarmes’?” she smiles brightly.
"Good Evening, Samaritha! I understand we are to work together. I just spent the night in the Order of the Cyphers. I understand you have an interest up there as well, yes?"
She nods her head vigorously, ”Oh, yes, I’m very interested in the Cyphermages. Hope to be one someday! What did you do there last night?” she smiles brightly.
"Hi. I'm Kaylayne. Welcome aboard. When you get settled and want me to show you the bar, let me know."
She leans in a little, ”Thanks Kaylayne, I appreciate it. It’s all so new, I’m sure I have a lot to learn from all of you.”
He follows his companions to meet this woman. After some small chit-chat, the bard is blunt, "So, how is that you can help us? What exactly are you passionate about? Do you dance by chance?"
She frowns and shakes her head, ”I’m passionate about magic, and research, not exactly what you need I’m afraid. But Larur seemed to think I’d be a good greeter, and I’m very happy to put my heart in it for what he’s offered to pay me. I’ll do whatever I can to help out - even cast spells now and then if it’s helpful. My heart lies with the Cyphermages, so it might be a short jaunt with you, but I’ll make the best of it.”
Ederin follows the rest of the group to meet their new partner, a bit anxious and more than a little suspicious that this might be the result of his poor work week.
When he sees her, he nods curtly, Ederin, please to meet you."
She smiles warmly, ”Hello! Glad to meet you too.”

Kaylayne the Undone |

"I'm passionate about magic."
Kaylayne perks up.
"Oh! Maybe you can explain to Ederin how magic works. I tried and failed," Kaylayne remarks. "If you're so magicky, why are you working here?"

Dimitrio Carini |

She frowns and shakes her head, ”I’m passionate about magic, and research, not exactly what you need I’m afraid. But Larur seemed to think I’d be a good greeter, and I’m very happy to put my heart in it for what he’s offered to pay me. I’ll do whatever I can to help out - even cast spells now and then if it’s helpful. My heart lies with the Cyphermages, so it might be a short jaunt with you, but I’ll make the best of it.”
Dimitrio clicks his tongue in a clear jest, "Well, that's no way to start your new job. You should not frown but smile. Treat this job as a wonderful adventure."
He bows with a flourish, "I, for one, am very happy to make your acquaintance. I am Dimitrio, the local entertainer here. Perhaps you have heard of the shows we put on here in the Goblin?"
Magic is always welcome here, specially if you can perform it with a flourish for the dramatic. What is your specialty?"

Ederin Valenta |

"Oh! Maybe you can explain to Ederin how magic works. I tried and failed," Kaylayne remarks. "If you're so magicky, why are you working here?"
"You did about as well as Garry did!"
Ederin cracks a smile and softens the tough guy act a bit.
"Don't let Kay anywhere near you if she's got a sling in her hands. Might not be able to sit down proper for a few nights."
He winks at Kaylayne and laughs, then turns his attention back to Samaritha.
"I handle the security around here, so if you'll be greetin'everyone than you'll be seeing a lot o' my guards. Good herd, most of 'em, but a bit rough 'round the edges, I'll introduce you before you work with 'em if you'd like."

Lief Anemoi |

Lief thanks Lady Colsett for her hospitality, and excuses himself for the remaining time he has. As well as Riddleport Law, Lief decides to stick to what he knows, and looks for a solid Alchemical reference book or two to ignite a line of inquiry of which he might have been ignorant.
Riddleport Law, and Alchemy, possibly with a local source
"Oh, yes, I’m very interested in the Cyphermages. Hope to be one someday! What did you do there last night?"
Lief brightens to hear her speak of further studies. "Oh, I found myself in a section of the library devoid of natural sunlight, which made time feel slower to pass. It was quite nice. I met Lady Colsett! Very nice lady. In haste, you'd almost be surprised that Riddleport would attract such a noble person, for all the talk of gamblers and thieves. I think you'll find her quite accommodating when you find your way into service there. As in any large organization, it takes some time to stir the slumber, and get your proper attentions. I have no doubt you'll eventually succeed in your pursuit."

GM_Euan |

Samaritha is a young half-elf woman with wavy red hair and a few Varisian tattoos on her face and neck. She definitely stands out among the Gold Goblin’s regular crowd - the combination of her cleanly attire, beauty, and quiet demeanor setting her apart.
"Oh! Maybe you can explain to Ederin how magic works. I tried and failed," Kaylayne remarks. "If you're so magicky, why are you working here?"
”Well I want do be a Cyphermage, but to get in you must first be apprenticed by one. That is a hard list to get on. I’m on it, but no one has selected me yet, so here I am. Looking for a way to make a little money while I wait.” she smiles. ”So, you’re Ederin, right? What do you want to know about magic? Are you hoping to be a wizard some day?”
”Well, Dimitrio, I’m afraid I haven’t heard of you, sorry. I’ve only been in town a short while though - I’m sure your more famous than I know.” she smiles encouragingly, ”But I’m really a transmuter at heart. I like changing things around when I can. Not sure how that can help, but I’ve a few spells that might help an act. Add a little panache.”
She goes on to talk a little about the spells Animate Rope for the show, Mending to spruce up the place, and of course your favorite, Pyrotechnics. She does admit, ”…not done carefully, that last one could blind some folks in the audience briefly though. So maybe not that so much.”
Garridan eventually approaches Smaritha and introduces himself, "Hello I'm Garridan." Seeing her sitting at a card table he asks suspiciously, "What exactly are your duties here?"
”Oh, well, I’m not really sure. Larur mentioned something about greeting people, as I said, but he sort of left it open. He seemed to think I’d just sort of fit in wherever was needed. I guess I’m fine with that as long as I can really contribute something, you know?”
"I handle the security around here, so if you'll be greetin'everyone than you'll be seeing a lot o' my guards. Good herd, most of 'em, but a bit rough 'round the edges, I'll introduce you before you work with 'em if you'd like."
”Ahh thanks. It’s good to know we’re well secured. I had heard this place was robbed a couple weeks ago? Is that true?”
Not sure what you’re looking for on the alchemy side, but certainly the library has volumes devoted to the art. The library is good enough in fact to apply a +2 circumstance modifier to any knowledge rolls made with its use.
”Well, I’ve heard of the librarian of course but I have yet to meet her. Some say she can be a little shrill, but I’m sure that’s not true.” she smiles hoping for more of your story.

Ederin Valenta |

”So, you’re Ederin, right? What do you want to know about magic? Are you hoping to be a wizard some day?”
"Me? A wizard, nah, doubt I'll ever be much more 'an' some bloke who can line a shot, but magic is good to know, or at least recognize so you can avoid the worst of it."
"It’s good to know we’re well secured. I had heard this place was robbed a couple weeks ago? Is that true?”
Ederin puffs his chest out a bit, a mixture of pride and an attempt to impress.
"Almost robbed, it was us that set 'em straight. Tryin' to set the reputation straight too, so folk ain't so afraid of comin' round here and keepin' us employed. Some nice tattoos you got there, Sam, always wanted some myself but never had the gold, an' I ain't never trusted them back alley artists. Don't feel like a real Varisian without one or two though."Satisfied that she is not his replacement, or someone to mistrust, at least not yet, Ederin extends his hand in friendship.
"I look forward to seein' you 'round here. Hope our relationship ends better than with the last red-headed lass I met here at the Goblin."

Kaylayne the Undone |

Kaylayne leans against the bar, hanging out and listening to Samaritha hold court. Her gaze eventually travels to the bartops, looking for signs of water spotting and inadequate polishing...wondering if she should have a rag in hand right now.
She listens in as Ederin and Sam chat, but doesn't have much to contribute yet. She will, but seems very conservative around new people.

Kaylayne the Undone |

Kaylayne gets an idea, thinking about magic. She walks over to Samaritha, eying her up and down.
"Do you mind if I magic you? I could use the practice...you might be able to help me learn a bit."
After consent...
Kaylayne casts Detect Magic and slowly and carefully examines any auras about Samaritha.

Lief Anemoi |

For Lief's research into Alchemy, I'd imagine that he'd review formulae, trying to understand new combinations, and the nature of the effort of distilling his aura into his preparations. Should it prove acceptable, he tries to learn new formulae for his formula book. If entrance fee covers the cost of writing, wonderful. Otherwise, Lief dedicates half his time, 10 hours, on Riddleport Law, while the second half is dedicated to new formulae, though he won't spend all his hard-earned money on new acquisitions...

"Well, I’ve heard of the librarian of course but I have yet to meet her. Some say she can be a little shrill, but I’m sure that’s not true."
"Your intuition is spot-on. I never strayed much from the discussion of books and book trade, but I can't imagine her sounding shrill in different context." Lief describes the interior of the library from mostly sound and smell, as he sheepishly admits to keeping his nose in the books, as if it were the last time he'd be allowed to read.
"Hope our relationship ends better than with the last red-headed lass I met here at the Goblin."
Lief purses his lips, then relaxes them to address Samaritha. "Well, Ederin's arrow is blunted now, so you have much less to fear. He might even warn you first that he's about to shoot." Lief looks at Ederin, a light smile that reaches his eyes.

Dimitrio Carini |

”Well, Dimitrio, I’m afraid I haven’t heard of you, sorry. I’ve only been in town a short while though - I’m sure your more famous than I know.” she smiles encouragingly, ”But I’m really a transmuter at heart. I like changing things around when I can. Dimitrio is nodding, "No, don;t sell yourself short. The best possession of a performer is confidence. Pyrotechnics, if done artfully and carefully, cane be very effective. We shall have to practice of course but yes you can definitely help here."
He cocks his head, "You are frightened by the stage or attention, are you?"

GM_Euan |

Ederin puffs his chest out a bit, a mixture of pride and an attempt to impress.
"Almost robbed, it was us that set 'em straight. Tryin' to set the reputation straight too, so folk ain't so afraid of comin' round here and keepin' us employed. "I look forward to seein' you 'round here. Hope our relationship ends better than with the last red-headed lass I met here at the Goblin."
She shakes your hand firmly and smiles, ”Yeah, I’ve always been fond of tattoos, but it is tricky. Don’t want a bad one to permanently mar your features!”
Kaylayne gets an idea, thinking about magic. She walks over to Samaritha, eying her up and down.
"Do you mind if I magic you? I could use the practice...you might be able to help me learn a bit."
”No, of course not. Help yourself.” she shrugs and smiles.
"Well, I haven't met her so I don't really know, but she is dedicated to her work that's for sure!"
Dimitrio is nodding, "No, don't sell yourself short. The best possession of a performer is confidence. Pyrotechnics, if done artfully and carefully, cane be very effective. We shall have to practice of course but yes you can definitely help here."
He cocks his head, "You are frightened by the stage or attention, are you?"
She shakes her head, ”Oh no, not at all. You have to make many public presentations to get into the right schools, and to keep up with some classes. It’s an area I’ve always excelled. I’m no bookworm… well I am a bookworm, but I like people too.”
Your conversation continues for some time as you all get to know each other a little and talk about your various roles. She seems very pleasant throughout and though she admits this is not her ‘dream’ job by any stretch, she seems dedicated to the work while she’s here. Very focused.
If you have any other questions, feel free, but I think we can move on to the end of the week. Larur meets with you all the next day (the last day of the week) to let you know her story checks out. She’s from Magnimar and is only recently in town. She’s on the short list to be apprenticed by a Cyphermage, it’s just down to one actually picking her at this point. Could happen any day, could be a year, it’s hard to know.
Please make your end of week rolls.

Ederin Valenta |

Profession (Soldier): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
As the sun sets, Ederin stands up and climbs back down the Cyphergate. He'd decided to come back after his first climb the day before, it was a good place to clear his head.
This week had been better, though not perfect. He'd relaxed his training regime and spent what other time he had trying to work on a few standard procedures in case of emergency.
It wasn't thrilling work, but it was something.
He hustled back to the Goblin hoping the rest of the partners would all be around for dinner, they were good company and he was really starting to get on with them.

Garridan Brewmaster |

Profession (Gambler): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Cade is distracted this week as he performs his duties this week. The arrival of Samaritha has made him question his partnership. As a result he spends less time monitoring his area of responsibility and more time keeping an eye on the new hire.

Dimitrio Carini |

The arrival of their new partners actually inspired Dimitrio. There was someone new to impress and it would give Zuria some competition.
The bard's dancing partner stepped up the challenge and danced her heart out in the couple of performances.
They didn't add any pyrotechnics but the shows had been well received.
perform dance: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24

Kaylayne the Undone |

"You don't mind if I practice on these? You'll let me know if I'm right, right?" Kaylayne asks, examining her items to get practice.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 Spellcraft - wand #1
"Oh...this one summons yaks, right?" Kaylayne asks.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 Spellcraft - wand #2
"Oh...maybe this one..."
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18 Spellcraft - bracers
"These might provide some protection like armor, right?" Kaylayne guesses of the bracers.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 Spellcraft - dagger
"Ooh...I think these are strengthened to slay flumphs, maybe?" Kaylayne asks tentatively waving the dagger about.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 Spellcraft - abacus
"I have no idea about this one," Kaylayne says, giving up.
* * *
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25 Prof (Barkeep)
Kaylayne works hard during the week, polishing her bar, her menu, and her drinks as much as she can.

GM_Euan |

Samaritha is a little taken aback at Kaylayne's brashness, but she rolls with it, "I guess I can help, sure." she seems less happy about this part of the discussion than the other work.
She admits to carrying a wand of magic missiles, a wand of identification, bracers of armor +2, a +1 dagger, and an abacus with some magics placed upon it to endure the ages (strengthening it so as to avoid damage). For obvious reasons she's proudest of the abacus and shows you all how to use it as her fingers fly along the beads.

Kaylayne the Undone |

Kaylayne catches Samaritha in a quiet moment.
"Thanks again for letting me practice on your magics. Those are some pretty nice items," Kaylayne remarks. "If you can afford those, why are you working here? Should you have moved into to library or something?"

Lief Anemoi |

Gather Information: 1d20 + 9 + 1d6 ⇒ (3) + 9 + (2) = 14
Lief can't help but siphon his attentions to the Order of the Cyphers, for both business and personal reasons. He finds himself splurging on inks and expenses, acquiring new formulae for his archives.
Over dinner, he talks over his readings at the library. It helps to set it more firmly in his mind, as well as improve his speaking skills with others.
"I guess I shouldn't have expected anything more substantial, but Riddleport law is anything but constant. Depending on the current crimelord in power, you've got variations galore. Eighty years ago, a crimelord by the name of Westminster enforced a citywide prohibition. Lasted all of one month, before they found his body pickled in gin. As for Cromarcky, I'd be interested in Saul's take on him, and compare it to the his general reputation in our district."
As Lief learns more of Samaritha, he takes time to strengthen his friendship with his fellow Magnimaran.
"I'm from the Grand Arch District, myself. Have you heard of Books & Binds & Rarest Finds? That's my family's business. I expect that I'll return there as soon as I can secure our connection here."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 7 + (6) = 18

GM_Euan |

”Thanks again for letting me practice on your magics. Those are some pretty nice items,” Kaylayne remarks. “If you can afford those, why are you working here? Should you have moved into to library or something?”
”Sure, ah Kaylayne, sure. I have been lucky with my career so far that’s true, but to become a Cyphermage you must be apprenticed by an existing mage. I could sell something and stay in the guild hall a while as a guest, but it would be temporary and very expensive.”
”It also might reduce my chances of being taken seriously. I’d be seen as a dilettante, just another hanger on.” her eyes look a little dreamy, ”I want to be IN there. I want to have access to the deepest vaults of the library, I want to know how magic works, decipher some ancient device, maybe even make a new spell. Leave my mark on the world.”
She brings her gaze to meet yours. ”That’s my hope anyway. I hope I can make it happen! What are your goals? Why are you here?”
”I’m from the Grand Arch District, myself. Have you heard of Books & Binds & Rarest Finds? That's my family's business. I expect that I'll return there as soon as I can secure our connection here.”
She thinks a little, and then shrugs, ”You’d think I’d know a book seller from Magnimar, but alas I am drawing a blank. I’ve had my nose buried in magical tomes more than otherwise. Was the bookseller also in the Grand Arch District? I spent most of my time in the Bridgeward district. I was lucky enough to get a job at the Golemworks there as I grew up and kept it as long as I could.”
- - -
Ederin is having some trouble with the hired guards, but not nearly as much as the week before. He focuses on emergency procedures, which may help in the event of one (what are the odds? hehehe) but it doesn’t help much with the day to day. (+0 to Saul’s roll)
Garridan too has a rough week by comparison to past successes, but he still holds his own and contributes, a little, to the overall bottom line. (+1 to Saul’s roll)
Dimitrio keeps up his overall performance and continues to excel. (+2 to Saul’s roll)
Kaylayne has a much better week than the men as her drink starts to make waves of its own around Riddleport. The bar is more efficient, and therefor more people are drinking. She’s even starting to get a few regulars who come just for the bar, and don’t really gamble. (+3 to Saul’s roll)
Lief spends too much of his time at, or worrying about, the library. As a result, he completely misses a huge event at one of the competing casinos that drains your visitors for a couple nights. As you’d been growing, Larur has been laying on the staff pretty thickly, and so there were a lot of payouts, for very little income those two days. (+0 to Saul’s roll)
Saul continues to be in and out - though Samaritha may start to take over some of his ‘shmoozing’ duties next week to help fill the gaps when he’s gone. One night he manages to book a whole shipload of wealthy merchants and their staff who were in town briefly to visit one of the other crimelords. It was a very profitable and boisterous night that helped make up for the otherwise lackluster performance.
Overall though it’s another positive week, and there is continued growth, though not with the meteoric rise of the last two weeks.
This week you each earn 30gp.

Kaylayne the Undone |

"What are your goals? Why are you here?”
Kaylayne looks shocked that Samaritha would ask that.
"Goals? Oh nothing.." Kaylayne lies.
1d20 + 0 ⇒ (17) + 0 = 17 Bluff - holding things back.
''I'm just here to make money. I have...I...eventually want to return home," Kaylayne continues, finding her conversational stride. "This is a pretty good job compared to other places. We share in the success of the business, which is nice. And I get freedom to improve things that need improving."

GM_Euan |

"So where's home? Why would you want to leave Riddleport?" she stops and laughs, "I mean besides all the crime and filth of course!"

Kaylayne the Undone |

"Oh, Riddleport just isn't home. It's not close to home. I came from a small Varisian town, more of an outpost, not far from Magnimar. Home is a place with easy access to the outdoors, to nature, to life. This here..." Kaylayne waves her hand around, not just at the bar, but all of Riddleport.
"...this is where people are. And I found an opportunity here for a while. But it's not home. Home...is different."
GM Evilan: do you have a name of nice dandy Varisian village/outpost that might have served as a frontierish stopping point for trappers and traders, naturalists and nature lovers? I could make one up otherwise.

GM_Euan |

"...this is where people are. And I found an opportunity here for a while. But it's not home. Home...is different."
I have no such village, but let me know if I need to create one. :)
"Oh, I do know what you mean, but I've never had that problem. As long as I could do magic - that was home for me. I'm not nostalgic for things of the past."
Oh, and in case it wasn't clear, go ahead and begin your next week, but no rolls please. You'll only have a couple days before the next event.

Garridan Brewmaster |

Garridan starts his new week just as he ended his last week. He goes through the motions of his work, still watching the new girl and seeing if she pulls her weight. At some point he approaches Ederin, "Ed what do you make of the new girl?"

Dimitrio Carini |

Another 30gp is very welcome by Dimitrio; this is the most money he's had like... ever.
Dancing still continues to be his focus for the week, but he decides that this week shall be the week to recruit other entertainers. Perhaps a magic show with a pretty lass would be welcomed in addition to music and dancing.
He waits for the rest of his companions to gather, including the new girl, before posing the question. "So I know the dancing has been a huge success, but I am thinking that perhaps we need to offer another form of entertainment to our clientele."
He nods to Sam, "What do you all think of a funny magic show with some obvious adult jokes interspersed throughout? Nothing too raunchy but you know, adults that gamble and drink also like adult humor, eh? I could, of course, do it with one of our lovely succubi, but I was thinking that perhaps Sam or Layne may want to try their hand at getting some applause and adulation."
He winks at both, "The limelight can be very... addictive."

Ederin Valenta |

Ederin continues working on optimizing the training of his hired guards, but he also takes up a number of other hobbies as well.
Following Kaylayne's suggestion he asks for Sam's help learning the basics of casting magic and identifying spells, he approaches Lief hoping for some friendly sparring to practice his sword work, thinking that both of them can learn from it, and he even tries to mimic a few of Dimitrio's dances, although only when no one is looking, usually after quite of few mugs of Kaylayne's latest brew.
He even caves, and joins Garridan for the occasional friendly dice or card game.
"Ed what do you make of the new girl?"
"Sam's pleasant 'nough to look at. The tattoos don't hurt either, and she seems friendly. Not sure what she's doin' here but I'm glad to have her 'round till she gets 'prenticed and becomes a proper fancygirl. Figure someone like that is probably a bit leaky though, friendly folk ain't likely to lock anything up too tight, so I'd be careful what you say 'round her. You ain't been to thrilled since she got here, ain't been overly subtle about it either. What's eatin' ya?"
He motions toward the table in a way that says 'hurry up and deal' while he swigs some of his drink.

Garridan Brewmaster |

"I can't say for certain, just a feeling." he shrugs his shoulders, "Its like she doesn't belong here. She has too much going for her to willingly work here." he pauses for a moment, "Maybe I'm reading to much into it."

Ederin Valenta |

Ederin shakes his head at the priest.
"This is Riddleport mate, you got every right to be suspicious, I can't say I trust her one hundred percent either but," he shrugs and finishes his mug.
"I didn't live damn near three decades just bein' lucky, eh? I'm alive because I trusted my gut, and when I talk to Sam it don't tell my to run. My book, that counts for something, but I got no issue keepin' an eye on her for now, and if you think you should too it just means less chance we'll kiss the snickersnack."

Lief Anemoi |

"You’d think I’d know a book seller from Magnimar, but alas I am drawing a blank. I’ve had my nose buried in magical tomes more than otherwise. Was the bookseller also in the Grand Arch District? I spent most of my time in the Bridgeward district. I was lucky enough to get a job at the Golemworks there as I grew up and kept it as long as I could."
"Ah, don't beat yourself up over it. Yes, it was based in the Grand Arch District. I must admit to not venturing out of my district hardly at all, since all of my work came to me. I inventoried... A lot. The Golemworks, you say? That sounds like solid work. I only hope you succeed in gaining apprenticeship here at the Order. Always helps to have someone in the know up there. Aside from Lady Colsett, of course." Lief smiles, enjoying the company of someone who also values literature.
...
Lief tries to pick up the pace of his daily strolls, hoping to regain some of the upper hand in conversations regarding competitor practices.
He takes up Ederin on the fencing, understanding that physical activity will help him with his other pursuits. He quickly learns of Ederin's strength, as he misjudges the short man's reach on several occasions. "That's going to leave a mark." He looks somewhat proud of the emerging bruises. "You think this'll impress Samaritha?" He wipes his brow, and takes a sip from the water ladle.
...
Lief casually approaches Kaylayne at the bar, and probes her... with questions. "So, you've spent some time with Samaritha. Have you learned of any love interests she currently entertains? What drinks does she favor? What does she do throughout the day, when I'm out?"

1 person marked this as a favorite. |

" I could, of course, do it with one of our lovely succubi, but I was thinking that perhaps Sam or Layne may want to try their hand at getting some applause and adulation."
"The limelight can be very... addictive."
Edrin pulls up a chair and rolls his eyes.
"Leave some o' the women in Riddleport for the rest of us, eh? If they're all on stage dancin' with you there won't be any drinkin' with the rest of us." He smiles warmly at the bard and laughs."Certainly would bring in more clientele though, I'd need to hire a few more guards for the stage, or get a couple to slog longer. Rotgut and beautiful dancers make for trouble without some sort o' security."
-------------------------------------------
"That's going to leave a mark. You think this'll impress Samaritha?"
"It might kid, can't say I know what type she likes."
Ederin rubs his ribs where Lief had jabbed him a few times, the kid was more precise than he might have expected. His foot work ain't bad either. He swigs a bit of water himself then resumes his stance.
"You'll have plenty of competition if you're after that lass, and before you get all puffy I ain't just talkin' about myself. She's gonna be greetin' every rich, successful, smart or otherwise charming gambler comin' through those doors."
He smiles broadly, "Gonna be more 'an' one dance you gotta learn before you leave Riddleport."

Lief stretches with the blade, extending his arms slightly behind his head. "Hadn't thought that well into it." He frowns, but not for long. "You're right, of course. Best not to get too excited about her, just yet. She'll make for a quality friend, at least. Garridan seems a little put out, since she's signed on. He alright with her?"
When Ederin sets his back foot, Lief follows suit. "I know you're being kind to my ribs, but I'm not going to learn to keep my elbow tucked if you keep coddling me." Lief returns the broad smile, and tries to draw a red line on the back of the short man's hand.
"As for 'dancing', there should be ample time, with our profits slowly climbing. We're managing to remain at roost for all our effort."

Kaylayne the Undone |

"So, you've spent some time with Samaritha. Have you learned of any love interests she currently entertains? What drinks does she favor? What does she do throughout the day, when I'm out?"
Kaylayne rolls her eyes, trying to polish out a particularly abused bartop.
"Why do you always ask me things that I have no idea about? This is like Ederin asking about magic? Do you think I can explain Samaritha better than I can magic?" Kaylayne dabs more solution to her rag and then to the countertop.
Kaylayne shakes her head.
"She seems nice enough. She does her job and...uh...wait..." Kaylayne rises her head and smiles knowingly, it finally dawning on her. "Oh...you're sweet on her, aren't you? Ah...ah...ah..."
Kaylayne smiles.
"Why don't you tell me what you want me to know about her and I'll see what I can figure out. What's her favorite type of flower? Does she prefer music or poetry? Is there anything else I can ask for you?"
Kaylaye thinks more.
"Oh! I know! I know what will get you in her bed in a heartbeat! She needs to find an apprenticeship with a Cyphermage. That's what she needs! It's tough to do, but if you would help her with that...you'd be in for sure."

The party chats away amiably as the last of the late night gamblers are escorted out the doors. The remaining help finishes closing things down and doing a little spot cleaning so the morning shift won’t have too much to do. You are scattered around doing the last of your duties, chatting, as well seeing to it your various charges are taken care of. Saul is in the vault locking up the nights receipts while Larur is doing the end of day paperwork in his office.
Suddenly one of the large windows in the main hall is shattered! A group of black-clad thugs come pouring in the broken window, climbing a pair of ladders outside to gain entry!

Condition(s) = None
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Lief moves up to see what's taking place, leaving the bar behind. He draws his blade as he moves, expecting to use it for a more dire purpose than training with Ederin. He calls out against the intruders.
"Is this really necessary?! You must be aware of the success of the last group of thieves..."
He pulls free one of his preparations, and gets ready to enter the fray, should Ederin's men not contain the problem quickly enough.

GM_Euan |

Lief moves to see the opposition and prepare himself. Samaritha sees the thugs crash through the window, and like a newbie to battle - she hesitates. ”What are you doing? We’re closed!” she shouts in confusion. She gathers herself quickly though and casts Mage Armor as she steps away from the short sword wielding thugs.
Meanwhile those, uh, gentlemen, who crashed through the glass, spread out into the room, overturning tables, kicking chairs, attacking the cleaning crew, and generally being disruptive as they go - trashing the place (image). Pushing them on (the man with the sword graphic and no color) is a large half orc, ”Trash it all, this place is shut down as of tonight!” he bellows loudly.

Round 1 - Initiative 9
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Dimitrio virtually jumps of the stage and whips out his rapier in one fluid movement. Willing his arcane energy into the blade, he slashes at one of the thugs. "You picked the wrong place, my friend. It's best if you just leave now!"
rapier to hit red thug: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

GM_Euan |

Ederin, you probably didn't have your bow actually out in hand (though feel free to give me a good reason why you would), so I think just one shot as drawing your bow leaves you only a standard left.
Feel free to move closer if you wish with your move action (as you can draw as a free while moving at your BAB) - you have a -2 cover penalty where you are due to tables, chairs, a few staffers, at the like. When you get within 30' that penalty will go away - if you get that close.

Kaylayne recoils with the sounds of breaking glass and angry shouts. She think first to running out the back door, but then remembers that this was her new nome. Instead, she drops her bar towel.
She moves back through the kitchens to ensure the back door is guarded.
"YOU! STAY THERE! GUARD THAT DOOR AND YELL IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS!" Kay commands to the back door guard as she moves toward the commotions.

"YOU! STAY THERE! GUARD THAT DOOR AND YELL IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS!" Kay commands to the back door guard as she moves toward the commotions.
"Yes ma'am!" the guard yells through the swinging kitchen door.
Garridan to go!

Ederin Valenta |

Will take a move action which would increase my first attack by +2 and cancel the second one, but accounting for cover keeps the roll for the first attack the same.

GM_Euan |

Garridan, sometimes roll20.net logs you out, it's very annoying. Try going to the main web site (link), log in again, and then it should work.
If not let me know. I've made no changes to your access. It's a double move for you to get to a target in any event so no attack unless you charge, which I think I'm not allowing due to tables, chairs, and other casino gear in your way. It's not difficult terrain, but it is tricky terrain...
New post up in a few moments.

GM_Euan |

Ederin, drawing his bow and shooting doesn’t quite manage to hit his intended target as his arrow thunks into a table top nearby. Kaylayne prepares her stones and moves out to see what the ruckus is about. Garridan draws and moves up on his first target. Dimitrio leaps into the air, landing before his opponent and striking him across the chest, drawing blood which splashes on the floor and an overturned chair.
The Gold Goblin Guards also leap into action, The man near Ederin draws his weapon and begins to close, while the other doest he same, but also manages a swing (on purple).
