Rathan Two-Tribes |

"Statement. Why would a bird want to jump into a pit, whatever the state of its health?" Palisade said, clearly preplexed. "Unless it seeks to launch a surprise attack."
"No it story to show only dumb bird would jump into pit with no way out," Rathan tried to explain.
After his companions drink from the well Rathan made his way over to the dangling rope. The heavily muscled barbarian easily pulled himself up the rope hand over hand. He dangled for a moment and swung his legs up kicking the hatch open.

I'll climb first.

Vi Olaro |

I seem to recall there was another passageway out of the big cavern. But I'm happy to go back the way we came. If Rathan is going first, I suggest RVSBP marching order. Also, Vi should have some more time on her Mage Armour - it lasts an hour, and she recast during the dog fight. Unless we stayed in the foundry for an hour. I'll put her new chain shirt on the character sheet. MW doesn't add any protection - just reduces ACP, right?

Bronwyn d'Deneith |

Might as well go back the way we came. It'll save time, even if there is an army of crazy warforged waiting for us to bring them the schema :)
The wizard ceded to Rathan's suggestion. "I guess Palisade has already proven that I can be hauled up by a rope. I guess that means I don't really have to climb. The route we came down would definitely the quickest way back. I'm just concerned someone may be waiting for us."

Yes and your mage armor and regular don't stack so if you're wearing a chainshirt, adding mage armor will do nothing more for your AC.
There was no other way out explored but I can tell you that they are dead-end tunnels filled with creepy-crawly things.

Rathan Two-Tribes |

Rathan helped the last of his companions up the shaft and paused to catch his breath. After a moment, "Door still shut, we need go quick back."
He moved over to the door and placed his ear against it, hoping that Bronwyn's fears of an ambush are unfounded. With a grin he announced, "No hear nothing"

Bronwyn d'Deneith |

Bronwyn will choose Magic Missile for her wand. That way she has something else other than fire. Also, remind me again if heal potions and spells work on warforged or do we have to have the oil of repair for them?
While waiting for her turn on the rope, the wizard considered everything they had found. "We should probably find someone to sell the coins to and then split the profit. I'd like to hang on to the map for now. If I have some time, maybe I can study it and determine whether it has any value."
If the warforged can use cure potions then I suggest that Rathan, Palisade, and Squeak take them. Arleth could have the mage armor potion if she wants it but Bronwyn would also take it.
As they prepared to go through the hatch, Bronwyn stated the obvious. "I think we should go straight back to the Broken Anvil. The sooner we can pass this schema off, the sooner we can go back to having some fun rather than worrying about being attacked."

Warforged gain 50% benefit of a regular cure spell so yes they work but not as well.

Looking at the map, Vi said, "I'm not sure what these symbols are, but this looks like the territory between Darguun and Cyre - I mean, the Mournland. We should bring it to her ladyship - she might know what it means."
at top of shaft
Vi coiled her rope up and stowed it in her pack. "I agree. I will be happy to get back up to the light, get rid of it, get paid, and get a good meal in my belly. Tomorrow we can look at selling the coins. Plenty of folk in Sharn would be happy to pay good money for them."
Assuming there would be no resistance from the 'forged, she began to lead them back the way they came.
I'll take a heal potion. The wiz can have the mage armour, as it won't stack with my chain.

Palisade |

Well, if we can get out without a fight, Palisade will be glued even more tightly to Bronwyn, as it expects the enemy to tail them instead. So no particular plans except to guard her.
As they prepared to go through the hatch, Bronwyn stated the obvious. "I think we should go straight back to the Broken Anvil. The sooner we can pass this schema off, the sooner we can go back to having some fun rather than worrying about being attacked."
"Affirmation. Sound assessment of the situation. The enemy follow the schema, thus delivery of said item is likely to lessen the threat to Lady d'Denei- Bronwyn," Palisade said, nodding its head, hand on the pommel of its sword, ready to draw at the first sign of trouble.

Action 1:
Bronwyn looked down at her clothes in dismay. No amount of prestidigitation could ever clean them. Then she brightened at the thought of what that meant. "Vi, you'll take me shopping tomorrow, right? This little adventure has made my clothes unsalvageable. Plus, I know you need to stay as Arleth for awhile still but maybe we can find you something to wear as Vi. Don't worry, no one else has to see you as not-Arleth. I'm pretty good at picking out clothes for others as well as me."
Action 2:
Bronwyn looked around Palisade to see their formidable foes. "This is precisely why I suggested we wait," she mutters. "I barely have any magic at my disposal to help."

Completely taken aback by the suggestion, Vi stuttered, "Um, yes, well, we can certainly go shopping. But I don't need clothes to fit my natural form. I'm never in it. Even with my family I wear my Violet Face, which, as it happens, is another half-elf. But I do have several Faces that love to shop - don't worry, I know all the best places." The thought of Bronwyn shopping with Zoë, or even Tiatha, made her grin.
Action 2.
Even though she was expecting trouble, the sight of the huge 'forged nearly surprised Vi into inaction. Instead, acting purely on instinct, she threw herself forward, rolling down and past the enemy, hoping to get past and out of range, hoping to make room for her more martially oriented friends.
What she hadn't considered was that she was basically dunking herself in a latrine. Unspeakable filth went in her ears, her nostrils, and streamed from her hair and clothes. Her wobbly ioun stone managed to keep its orbit, and dripped sewage on her as it circled her head. Gagging, she struggled to keep her momentum and get to her feet. Shaking her head to clear the nastiness from her face, she completely regretted her decision.
The good news was, she was past the 'forged safely. Drawing her daggers, she dropped into a fighting crouch and waited.

Palisade |

Action 1
Palisade, unable to smell anything and oblivious to what a blessing that was observed the reactions of the living beings with some slight interest. That Lady d’Deneith was discomforted was an issue, but there was little Palisade could do to help her here. It could, perhaps, try to rid them of the gas by setting it alight, but even if it was flammable, that course of action would not be advisable while they were inside the cloud themselves.
Action 2
Bronwyn looked around Palisade to see their formidable foes. "This is precisely why I suggested we wait," she mutters. "I barely have any magic at my disposal to help."
Don’t blame me, Palisade would certainly have deferred to Bronwyn’s judgement ;^)
”Observation. And the enemy only has two units to oppose us,” Palisade said calmly, drawing the blade it had been holding at the ready.

Squeak Warforged |

Squeak looked at Palisade, then back at Brownwyn. 'I understand that there is a social stigma' he observed to himself 'But the clothes should still be fine for wearing inside the house.'
"I could use a replacement speech-motivator. Please avoid damage to the neck." observes Squeak "The woman is of no use."

The problem is Bronwyn has no judgment :) In case you haven't noticed, she's a bit of a flake. Maybe Palisade (and Squeak) will learn that it's ok to override Bronwyn's decisions if he thinks it's for the best...

Palisade |

Well, learning and developing is one of the best things about RPing, but such things should take their sweet time ;^) In the meantime, Palisade is happy to jump off a cliff if Bronwyn says so, but might, might, exercise some judgement in purely tactical situations while still leaving strategy for Bronwyn to decide.

Game on!
hobgoblin attack Rathan: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11, miss
warforged attack Palisade or Vi: 1d2 ⇒ 1, Palisade
warforged attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10, miss

Rathan Two-Tribes |

Round 1
Rathan dodged the Hobgoblins blow and returned a powerful strike of his own. The cagey mercenary dodged the barbarians strike and grinned evilly at his diminutive opponent. Sensing his companions were getting bottle-necked behind him Rathan stepped in-between his opponents.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
5 ft step toward Vi

Bronwyn d'Deneith |

Bronwyn didn't have enough room to use her grandfather's ring to allow her to catch the crazy warforged or the hobgoblin in fire. So she pulls out one of her scrolls. Reading the words from the parchment, she directed the magic at Palisade.
She'll use Enlarge Person on Palisade to increase his strength and weapon size so he'll hopefully crush the crazy warforged. +2 to str, -2 to dex, -1 to attack, and -1 to AC (sorry about that). You'll have 10ft natural reach and your weapon will be considered large.

Palisade |

Greatsword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 Oh, the rolls…
Palisade’s size is now 10x10, so it’ll cover 4 squares, pushing Bronwyn back.
His greatsword raised sparks from the side of tunnel, “Lay down your weapons and join your Lord!”
”Forceful objection. There is but one person worthy of that title, and this one doubt you know of Her, nor are worthy of wiping the dust from Her boots,” Palisade announced, shifting its grip as it tried to accustom itself to its new size. It wasn’t the first time it had experienced magic like this, but it certainly couldn’t claim being comfortable with the sudden change. Not that it couldn’t see the benefits to the magic. Palisade swung its now 12-foot greatsword at the enemy ‘forged, drawing trails of sparks as the overlong weapon scraped and scarred the walls. Unfortunately, the awkwardness of using such a long blade in the confines of the passage meant the swing was slow enough for the enemy to easily step aside.

Vi Olaro |

Since Vi doesn't go until next turn, I'm just waiting to see what everybody else does. Fabian - any chance you could move my turn to after the next update? It would be nice to make my decision, already knowing where folk are, especially as I'm relying on flanking to do SA damage.

Squeak Warforged |

Sweet!
spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18 Enough to identify spell, and know casting time is 1 round.
There is no clear space to step to past Palisade, right? And 20 minutes has passed so the Mutagen has deactivated?
Squeak worried 'Incendiary devices could ignite the methane, damaging Objective. Engage in melee only.' A moment later, as Bronwyn cast, he continued 'Bronwyn will use Palisade to block the way. Decision now: close or guard Objective from rear? Elementary military tactics would use flanking, and Objective would be caught unawares.'
Squeak turned, concentrating on protecting them from the rear as Palisade attacked from the front.
Readied action to attack any enemy that comes within range. If there is time it'd be nice to five foot next to Bronwyn and take a swing at the 'Forged, but I think the cover'd nix that anyway.

Fabian Benavente |

Ok a few things...
As Squeak 'diplomatically' pointed out (thanks for helping out a dumb-ass GM :)), the casting time for enlarge person is 1 round so the magic won't take effect until next round (Round 2). I'll 'mess' with initiatives if needed such that Palisade acts 'enlarged'.
I'll fix this turn recap for Round 1 so Palisade's is NOT enlarged, still missed though.
Vi: we are using block initiative which means that all PCs go at the same time. The opponents have already moved for Round 1 and won't move again until Round 2 (after Vi) for which I will write the next turn recap.
If you want to know where people are before you post, you can give me some intended actions and delay your initiative mechanically. However, please do NOT delay your posting because this is a very international game with people from Australia, Finland, western Canada, Eastern US... so if we start waiting for other people to post then this whole posting things takes 2-3 times as long.
I usually post turn recaps in my evening/night time and I need you guys to all post within 24 hours after I post.

Yes, 20 minutes have passed since you took your mutagen.

Vi Olaro |

Seeing both the enemy engaged with her comrades, Vi saw an opportunity to flank. Moving carefully forward through the muck, she blinked tears and filth from her eyes, trying to clear her vision.
Seeing an opportunity, she took it, lashing out with both daggers, she lunged at the enemy forged/hobgoblin's exposed back. Aiming for kidneys, or where the constructed equivalent would be, she struck out twice.
dagger: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
damage: 1d4 - 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) - 1 + (3) = 3
dagger: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
damage: 1d4 - 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) - 1 + (2) = 2
Wait, are forged immune to critical damage? Oh well, if so, she wouldn't know that. Guess we'll find out now. And I think there would be one extra point of damage on each of those rolls, as it's minimum 1 to start. She'll attack whoever she can flank. Also, what's the deal with using AP? Is it immoral to use one after I know the outcome of my roll? Hard not to cheat...
One of her little daggers was turned aside by the enemies armour, but her left hand struck true. Blood/fluid leaked out of the small but surprisingly painful hole she left in their flesh. Pleased, she dropped back into a crouch and readied herself for a counterattack.

Fabian Benavente |

warfored are NOT immune to critical damage.
However, you need a full round action (which only allows a 'free' 5' step) to attack with two hands so you will have to use a move action to move and a standard action to attack (one attack).
Just tell me what you intend and I will do my best to move you accordingly. I promise I'm on your side.
I only kill Shari's PCs. :)
You may use an action after seeing your results but technically before the result of your original roll is known. That last part is a mute point because I usually tell you either the DC of an action or the AC of your opponent.

Fabian Benavente |

Out of curiosity, couldn't Vi have moved and attacked that very first round. It looked like she only moved.
Yeah, she could have done that but I think she wanted to get distance between her and the attackers.
Vi: don't forget that if you catch your attackers 'flat-footed' (meaning they have not acted) then you apply your sneak attack damage regardless of whether you are flanking or not. This of course could only happen in Round 1 and only if you get to act before they do.
Game on!

Vi Olaro |

Can you tell I've never played a rogue before? I'll get the hang of this eventually. So I could have done SA damage last round, with one attack, even if they weren't flanked? Dang.
So this round we'll go with move to flank, and one attack with SA damage? Rules are hard.

Squeak Warforged |

As Squeak 'diplomatically' pointed out (thanks for helping out a dumb-ass GM :)), the casting time for enlarge person is 1 round so the magic won't take effect until next round (Round 2). I'll 'mess' with initiatives if needed such that Palisade acts 'enlarged'.
Sorry - was originally going to try to bolt past Palisade while I still could and presumably take a bunch of AoO's getting over to Vi... but then I thought better of it.

Fabian Benavente |

Rathan Two-Tribes |

Round 2
Rathan felt his collar bone crack under the Hobgoblin's blow. His legs buckled for a second before the barbarian felt the Anger rise from deep inside him. With strength reserves he didn't realize he possessed Rathan swung his Tangat at his opponent cleaving deep into his neck.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Damage: 1d8 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
Rage, Power Attack, Reckless Rage

Vi Olaro |

Not that I mind, but how does Rathan get two attacks? And why am I having such a hard time wrapping my mind around these rules? Grrr...sleep deprived brain. Blame my children.
If Vi steps to where the hobgoblin stood, that doesn't actually count as flanking, does it?

Bronwyn d'Deneith |

I don't think he got a 2nd attack. That was his critical confirmation. Nice hit, Rathan!
Bronwyn realized quickly that she hadn't really thought her plan through. Palisade was now blocking Squeak from helping the other 'forged. "Squeak, is there anything you can do to help Palisade stay on his feet? He may not be able to handle another hit from the crazy warforged."
Not being able to get fire past Palisade, which was another thing she hadn't thought about, she pulled out the wand that she had found. Activating the magic, she directed a missile of energy at the crazy warforged threatening Palisade.
I'm assuming that I just get 1 missile?
damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Oh, ouch. That hurts so much.

Palisade |

Yeah, had to be crit confirmation, though the damage rolled twice is confusing me, since you can't just add them up for a crit damage result.
Too bad Vi acted already for round 2, so Palisade doesn't get the flank bonuses this round in any case. And now the enemy has an even easier time hitting him since the Enlarge is active T_T
Greatsword: 1d20 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (10) + 4 + (1) = 15 Yeah, action points or not, they won't help much with rolls like that... would need extra attacks to get more chances for those past-16 natural rolls, but the points weren't good for that, right?
Its vision impeded by the deep cut on its face place, Palisade anchored its feet to remain standing and tried to swing its now-massive sword, but once again the enemy easily avoided the heavy swing.

Squeak Warforged |

"Not fast enough." answered Squeak "And I cannot attack past at this size."
Thinking fast he dropped his hammer, pulling together a grenade "Bronwyn: if this sets fire to the methane, you will need to stay under the... water until the blaze subsides."
Rather than attack, though, he leapt past Palisade's feet - his comrade had always preferred a strong immobile stance, and filled the gap between the dying hobgoblin and the Warforged.
He lashed out with the grenade, not so much throwing it as smashing it over the other Forged's head.
thrown weapon attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 AoO, but Precise bombs means he can exempt 4 squares - our squares. Also means he'll be distracted (will have used his AoO) and might make him change targets - especially if he gets sneak attacked...
"Surrender and report. Die and we destroy your construct."

Fabian Benavente |

Not that I mind, but how does Rathan get two attacks? And why am I having such a hard time wrapping my mind around these rules? Grrr...sleep deprived brain. Blame my children.
If Vi steps to where the hobgoblin stood, that doesn't actually count as flanking, does it?
Yeah, that second roll was his critical confirmation roll. Some people roll damage twice (or three times according to the weapon) and others just multiply it. I've seen it both ways.
I'll let Rathan strike and then 5' step away so you can take his place and flank the forged.
So Vi gets 1 attack but flanking and with possible SA damage.
Go Vi!
