Iron Tom Bonney |
Spout Lore: 2d6 - 1 ⇒ (5, 2) - 1 = 6
I thought they were just a legend! I don't know what could defeat such a creature, Tom cries exasperatedly, All I know is that it must be defeated somehow.
Tom charges into the house, his holy symbol aloft.
DM Volsung |
inside the house, you see scratches and scribblings everywhere. most of the words on the wall are too small to make out, but the phrase The Plague is written large and often.
A man (More a desiccated husk) lays on the floor. a dark force, radiating malevolence, is forming in the kichen. what do you do?
Conwall |
I draw my spirit into Catastrophe. Forged from the metal bones of a demon, the sword has power to hit things that are not fully within the physical world. But it is a strike of the mind, not of hand, and a clear focused mind is not especially my strong suit.
h&s wis: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 5) + 2 = 9
I bound over the counter, Catastrophe glowing blue as I force violence with my mind. I falter for a moment, leaving myself open to counter attack.
DM Volsung |
Conwall
Your blade pierces the shadow, but it passes through your blade (wounded) and surprises you. draining your life energy 1d12+2 damage, and DD+Con What do you do?
Tom
Sanctify, cast upon the whole house, would exorcise the spirit, however, the casting will take a minute or two, and the spirit will notice, unless conwall can keep him off you
Sheridan Driftwood |
Suddenly, Sheridan looks to the horizon. "Wait, Bucky, where's Other-bucky? The one in metal-weave instead of scales? Oh, and the fae warrior? I think I saw her on the way into town, but I don't think I've seen the other one since I gave him my sord. Do you think they'll be coming with us? That was a nice pointy bit... Not as cool as the twanger, but still..."
Oh, Tom, I looked in your inventory for what kind of armor you wear, and I noticed you have the cavalry saber. It's the longsword Sheridan gave you. it's +1 to all damage, rather than +2 to mounted.
Iron Tom Bonney |
Cast a Spell: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (3, 2) + 1 = 6
Conwall, buy me time. I think I can excise this spirit, Tom begins to cast his spell and fumbles his holy symbol, having to begin again. Frantically starting again under the pressure.
Cast a Spell: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 2) + 1 = 5
Cast a Spell: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 4) + 1 = 7 -> lose the spell
Your dice better be hot, Conwall. We might be f++%ed here.
DM Volsung |
The shade passes through Conwall, launching itself at Tom as he desperately tries to call up the sanctifying magic. it grabs you, body and soul, and tries to invade you. if Conwall doesn't keep it off you, it will likely kill you before you can exorcise it, what do you do? Both of you, 1d12 +2 ignores armour
Conwall |
Wait, the shade hit me once already. I was waiting for the results of my (incredibly successful) DD+con to act again. It seems unfair to hit me with a second hard move, especially one so powerful. Can I have a chance to dodge as it tries to barrel through me?

OOh, good point. ignore the bit about the shade hitting you, its going straight for tom. also, the DD was to not succumb to the hemorrhaging sickness it brings. you're good. now, Tom on the other hand...
The creature drains Tom, you can see the cleric slump visibly. one more touch may be enough to slay him, what do you do?
Conwall |
Sorry, dreadful migraine! I'm back now.
As the specter rushes past and attacks Tom, I cast my will into my sword again
hack and slash wis: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 3) + 2 = 9
Shade damage: 1d12 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
my damage: 1d10 + 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (7) + (1) + 1 = 9
Conwall |
Hack and slash wisdom: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 5) + 2 = 12
I put myself In danger, flipping over the shade and into his path. I bring my sword across the shade before he reaches Tom.
damage: 1d10 + 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (7) + (1) + 1 = 9
I stay low and careful, dodging his counter attack at the cost of damage
Iron Tom Bonney |
Defy Danger: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 5) + 2 = 11
Tom pushes himself to make up lost time on the ritual, skipping words and walking quicker as he blesses the house so only the words of power are used.
Finally some good rolls!
Iron Tom Bonney |
Tom searches the entire farm house to try and find anything that might cause the corruption to return, stuff the corpses with herbs from his cloak, spreads some drinkable water around with his blessing, and then lights the farmhouse on fire and sticks around to make sure it burns to the ground.
If there are any obvious family belongings or heirlooms Tom will bring them outside to be carried to town, and he will see if anyone recognizes the corpses.
What move would all this be?
DM Volsung |
Another gem, this one smaller, and sickly green,, lays there where the spectre stood. Do either of you examine the scribblings on the wall?
The house goes up easily enough, after a quick examination reveals that you have cleansed the evil thoroughly. you load yourself with what appear to be the precious memories, and the life savings, of Lexand and his family. you will reach town an hour before dawn, what do you do?
DM Volsung |
The scribblings, between ravings about the plague, and the pain of possession, make mention of a gate, atop the "Spire of Suffering". you will need more information, but there is, or will be, some portal to Zimrann's plane in this realm.
You reach the town without incident, and find your allies fairly quickly (Zoe's outrage at Sheridan's choice of house can be heard from half a mile away). Natria also finds your group, and taps her foot, saying I had thought we agreed to leave at dawn? she says, smiling Come on, no time to lose
What does everyone do?
Conwall |
I bow deeply to Natria. Of course, lady. I'm certainly ready, as Elves don't trouble themselves with sleep. Perhaps Iron Tom may need a few hours to rest after our ordeal...to say the least of our companions who stayed for the party...
As the rest of the party gathers themselves I enter my daily meditative state. I can only do it once in a 24 hour period, but it's as restful as a full night's sleep.
Heal 1/2 of max HP
Sheridan Driftwood |
Sheridan takes one look at Tom and pulls the bandages from his pack. "You okay, buddy? Looks like you've missed more than one night's propper rest. Can't say I wasn't worried for my favorite swashbuckler." The merfolk's too-wide smile takes a patronising cast. The feats of strength over the past few days make more sense from this rougher Sharidan. Despite his slight frame, he at least looks like he could catch a bear paw.
Iron Tom Bonney |
Tom smiles and says, This ain't nothing compared t' life with the sea. You and I both know nothing on this land is as harsh as survival on the waves. I can recover from a few bumps, it's more important that I reaffirm my devotions right now. My faith is all I need to stay alive.
Cast a Spell: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 2) + 2 = 10 -> Empower double effect, lose -1 ongoing cast a spell.
Cast a Spell: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 4) + 1 = 10 -> Empower double effect, lose cure light wounds.
Cure Wounds: 4d8 ⇒ (7, 5, 1, 2) = 15
Tom will commune with Iisac and prepare his spells while traveling assuming I can ride on TAM.
Ron Bucanero |
Ron brings the horses around and speaks to Natria, Apologies, me lady.
Sitting on a warhorse in Selwyn's armor, Ron looks something like an aristocratic knight. He dips his spear to the half-elf with respect, and then brings new Roach up to where Conwall is mounting old Roach.
Seems that business with the wargs was more trouble than we expected. I'm sorry I could not join ye.
Let's be off then.
Perilous journey rolls? I can tie the reins of Conwall and Tom's horses to my horse so they can focus on meditating and communing.
DM Volsung |
It is all well, we could use your skills down here. Natria says, as she and her entourage get moving. she rolls her eyes at Conwall's comment about elves.
This isn't a perilous journey. this is 10 well-armed people going down a well-traveled road. it is a 10-day trip, however, so expend 50 uses of rations (You can just subtract 30 gold from the group loot, saying you resupply at Ghostmoore). Does anyone do anything during the trip?
Conwall |
On the journey I tell my companions about what we encountered, letting Tom fill in any gaps I misunderstood. Otherwise I ride quietly, thinking ill of the increased encroachment of Asmodeans in the mortal plane. If we can't deal with this quickly and quietly and the Elves catch wind.
I shudder involuntarily, thinking of the last cult that tried a summoning on this scale and what was done to them...and every living thing for 50 miles.
Iron Tom Bonney |
Cast a Spell: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 6) + 2 = 13
I'm going to use a pool of pure water to cast Visions Through Time about the messages in the house and the potential savagery that can be released into the world.
Sheridan Driftwood |
Before he leaves, Sheridan goes door to door with his Travelers' placard, asking if anyone has deliveries to Ghostmoore. Not everyone is thrilled to answer, and he hasn't developed quite the right demeanor but it's what they told him to do when they gave him the card.
During the trip, Sheridan fills his time with exploring purpose-made tools. By day, Sheridan runs drills with anyone with a horse, or willing to mount a critter. He teaches them a very strange game of polo. It works well with mixed schools, keeping your fast mounts exercised without pushing slower mounts. In the evenings and mornings, he pesters the cookstaff to let him help.
I'd like to do a week of Preparation with human tools.
