You should be able to simply drag maps into the program and then hide the whole thing. Then just cut stuff out of the hidden area.

I have not used it in a few months, but I think my technique was:

1) Load the campaign.
2) Drag in/load the map. (I have been running the old classic Temple of Elemental Evil, the AD&D version, so I do not have fancy maps and have had to create them all from scratch).
3) Turn on the grid and coordinates. <-- these both annoyingly default to off each time you reload the campaign. Probably a way to turn them always on, but I could not figure out how.
4) Using the Fog of War (one of the 5 icons on the top left of the page in the version I use - 1.3.b89), make the whole map "hidden" by fog of war. Then "unhide" those parts you want people to see.
5) Turn on the lighting effects you want.
6) Turn on Fog of War.
7) Turn on Player View.
8) Expert the screenshot as a pdf or whatever picture form it uses.
9) Upload to Google Drive and Share.

At least, that is what I used to do. You can find all kinds of tokens for free on the Maptools site, or I think you can easily click and drag images from anywhere else pretty easily.

Thanks Ghae that sounds like just what I need.

Listen, I had spotty internet today. I'll do a full update later I want to make sure I get it right in terms of what Grokar and May saw in either direction, I have to track the visibility and movement of the enemy carefully. Be back later.

Talric I'm looking into the issues with that Titan Mauler archetype that you brought up, I see what you mean now. The FAQ kind of makes the archetype do nothing.

Female Human Mooncaller Druid 2 || HP 20/20 | AC:15 Tch:12 FF:13 | CMD:14 | Init:+2 (3) | Perc: +9 (10)

Mikka Windsong reporting for duty.

Ok now how to intro Mikka?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

How about reverse spontaneous combustion - a burst of flame coalesces into a druid. Or, a meteor from the moon could come crashing down into the dungeon and she could appear out of the ruins or a pack of lycanthropes could appear with her following and chasing them off or a blaze of silver moonlight could appear with her fading into existence as the moonlight dissipates or . . .

Oh, wait, I love trees, who cares about the moon. It does not have enough light to cause photosynthesis to feed my trees so who cares about her.

I think Ghae wants Mikka to appear transformed and shooting arrows in her back after the hawk sets up flanking and attacks as well XD.

Party to Mikka: "Ummm...she was one of the good guys, we think."

Does anyone know, does dark vision mean you also have low-light vision?

I always thought it did, since it's better, but some archetype I was reading said it gives you low-light on top of dark-vision, like darkvision didn't grant that anyway.,,

I need to know to determine how far Grokar sees up the hall.

Female Half-Elf Druid(Treesinger)/3 - HP: 27/27; AC16, T15, FF11; F+4,R+2,W+7; Per +12; Init +1

They are different. Look at the fetchling or dhampir. One of those gives both.

Ok.

The biggest difference is the range. Those with low light vision can see areas of low light the same as they could in daylight. With darkvision, I can only see in darkness up to 60 feet away or areas of bright light beyond that.

Female Human Mooncaller Druid 2 || HP 20/20 | AC:15 Tch:12 FF:13 | CMD:14 | Init:+2 (3) | Perc: +9 (10)

Whatever way you see fit is fine by me.

Is there an action we can take to put ourselves out. I couldn't find anything in the PRD.

Female Human Mooncaller Druid 2 || HP 20/20 | AC:15 Tch:12 FF:13 | CMD:14 | Init:+2 (3) | Perc: +9 (10)

If a character's clothes or hair catch fire, he takes 1d6 points of damage immediately. In each subsequent round, the burning character must make another Reflex saving throw. Failure means he takes another 1d6 points of damage that round. Success means that the fire has gone out—that is, once he succeeds on his saving throw, he's no longer on fire.

A character on fire may automatically extinguish the flames by jumping into enough water to douse himself. If no body of water is at hand, rolling on the ground or smothering the fire with cloaks or the like permits the character another save with a +4 bonus.

Those whose clothes or equipment catch fire must make DC 15 Reflex saves for each item. Flammable items that fail take the same amount of damage as the character.

Essentially the save represents beating the flames out, Stop, Drop and Roll gives you a +4

I'm back. Slowly catching up. Hardest work I've ever done in my life I think (or maybe I'm just getting old).

I clocked 40 hours in two days. Continuous hard physical labor with two half hour breaks/day.

Female Human Mooncaller Druid 2 || HP 20/20 | AC:15 Tch:12 FF:13 | CMD:14 | Init:+2 (3) | Perc: +9 (10)

Ouch!

I have an idea for bringing Mikka in. Maybe she is in the bandit captains room negotiating with him?

When he comes out she could broker a ceasefire or just jump into the fray with the party or whatever she would do IC.

Female Human Mooncaller Druid 2 || HP 20/20 | AC:15 Tch:12 FF:13 | CMD:14 | Init:+2 (3) | Perc: +9 (10)

Ok, may not be on for a few hours though.

Ok when I get home from work I'll add an expanded map that shows the room where Mikka would be conferring with the bandit captain and Lieutenant.

Female Human Mooncaller Druid 2 || HP 20/20 | AC:15 Tch:12 FF:13 | CMD:14 | Init:+2 (3) | Perc: +9 (10)

Ready whenever you are.

Cool. I'm off to work in about a half-hour but when I get back I'll finally have a couple of proper days off, and next week will be back to my usual small shows with loads of downtime to post.

Arrows (17/20), Trail Rations (5/5), Ki Points (5/5)

I was trying to update my equipment quantities in the spreadsheet, but it's not letting me make any changes. So far I have used my Potion of Cure Moderate Wounds and 3 arrows.

I set it on view only because the other groups one got all mashed up with everyone editing. I have the potions marked off though. I left the arrows full because there's loads of replacement ammo on the bandits.

So we can say that Mikka has been in the bandit captains quarters negotiating for access to penetrate further into the dungeon? How does that sound?

She can be there of her own accord, responding to the blight. Or, she could be a plant sent in early by the clever high druidess who sponsored the other party (team 1).

Any thoughts?

Female Human Mooncaller Druid 2 || HP 20/20 | AC:15 Tch:12 FF:13 | CMD:14 | Init:+2 (3) | Perc: +9 (10)

I like either option but I'd be happy to have suggestions from the party.

In other news, I'm going to try really hard to adjudicate this lighting situation properly after being so sloppy with the rules lately :-)

So Pharnox's deeper darkness is a 60' radius, bringing the torchlit areas down to darkness and the dimlight areas beyond the torchlight down to supernatural darkness.

Christoffs light spell brings supernatural darkness up to darkness?

I will go look at the PRD.

As part of his round 8 action Christoff said:

Christoff van Alst wrote:

Christoff moves towards where he last saw Talric and places his hand on the wall and a glow comes from it.

Cast light on the wall where Christoff has moved.

Now Talric was outside of the spells radius, now with the lighting blacked out the would leave him in darkness. After Christoff casts light wouldn't the spot on the wall be raise to dimlight?

Sounds good to me ^^

We can go off initiative right?

Dungeon Map

Here's a little cut away of the dungeon rooms so you can see where Mikka and the bandit leaders are coming from. The big room labeled "4" is the chamber that the captain is using for his quarters.

I'm trying to remember, was it Pharnox who wanted to loot the fallen bandits? I can't find the post but I remember someone said they wanted to.

Yeah, one of his motivations was treasure to give himself a better life, so while the others are talking about blites and the introduction of a new character he is off scrounging around the dead bodies for some good stuff.

Ok cool. Why don't you roll a sleight of hand and stealth check in gameplay. I will go look up what these guys have in their coin pouches.

I also went to pick up my javelins, if I could find them.

For sure.

Hey Christoff, is that knowledge arcana to see if you've heard of Sha'Yen'Maar?

Yea sorry.

np, it's more of a know (religion) but I guess it overlaps into arcana somewhat

I figured I might not get much and I don't have religion trained.

I like to overlap know: checks somewhat

See if we can get through this first round in "theater of the imagination" mode, I have tomorow off and will see if I can get the map fog-of-war'd in maptools for smoother reveals of additional rooms as we go.

Let me know if you have any questions, I use MapTools relatively frequently and have figured fairly easy ways of revealing stuff.

I am kind of a tech moron. So far I can't get past "Your security settings have blocked a self-signed application from running."

With MapTools I can probably help you. With anything Windows related, I am pretty clueless. I switched to Mac almost 5 years ago and have never been happier. Before that I was working on Windows XP machines and hated every minute of it. I figure I would lose 1-2 days a month rebooting and reinstalling crap on the office computers. Since I went on my own and got a Mac, I figure I have to reboot, not reinstall, just reboot about once every month or two. A little more frequent, maybe once every three weeks, these days as my computer is over 4 years old and getting a little slower at times if I have 40 or 50 browser windows open (like when trying to determine which domain or bloodline I want to create a character using)..

Mmhmm I hear you. I think I had to reboot my retina once when I got the spinning beach ball of death. Hasn't happened again since.

Ghae I can't figure it out x_x

I may have to give up on maptools.

I lowered my java security settings and added download.rptools.net as an exception to get past the self-signed application security message but maptool still fails to run.

Female Half-Elf Druid(Treesinger)/3 - HP: 27/27; AC16, T15, FF11; F+4,R+2,W+7; Per +12; Init +1

Hmmm, go to RPTools.com and see if the answer is there. There are a ton of very helpful people and a very devoted developer group.

Maptools Forum

If you can get it working, I find it to be very easy to use and it makes great maps.

Ugh. Java . How can something named after coffee be so terrible.

Female Half-Elf Druid(Treesinger)/3 - HP: 27/27; AC16, T15, FF11; F+4,R+2,W+7; Per +12; Init +1

You have the Java 7 problem? I think there is a workaround. I actually avoided upgrading to the new OS X until last week to let them get some of the Java bugs worked out. I was worried, but fortunately my MapTools still works.

Im running OSX 10.7.5 and Java 7

I saw the sticky about the Java problem on the forum you linked, but the workarounds seem to be for windows.
