As Ignatious casts his spell, the one you assume is Eliza gives a wickedly evil laugh, the moment before trying to gut Ignatious. It's not her!
Baddies: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Darius: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Ignatius: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Osric: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Roos: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22

Round 1:
Osric: Go
Roos: Go
Baddies: TBD
Darius: TBD
Ignatious: TBD
Roakar: TBD
Osric Longstride |
Osric reacts in a flash at "Eliza's" treachery. He has a brace of arrows nocked, then pauses for the briefest moment to see if Roos will begin a song.
Delay until after Roos, then full attack.
Manyshot, PBS, DA: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (16) + 20 = 36

Damage?: 1d8 + 4 + 1 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 + 8 = 15
Holy?: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 4) = 10
I am posting now in the interest of time. If a human enemy, please add +2 to all attacks and damage per arrow. If Roos does a song, Please add the effect as well. Thanks!
Dungeon Master S |
Definitely evil, counts as human. Will wait for Roos. :-)
Roakar |
Way to be on the ball Ignatious! Reading back through Chris's posts I can see some of the hints (shrieking, garbled words that may have been spell casting to summon a second, the use of the word shadow to describe Eliza) but they never stuck long enough for me to be suspicious.
Roos Randermin |
Bot me. In Afghanistan and some stuff happened I have to deal with. I am fine but wont get around to checking the map. apologies.
Dungeon Master S |
Stay safe Roos. We'll have to Bardic the hell out of this thing. Stay in touch.
Roos immediately flies into action. His bardic performance is unparalleled. *Inspire Courage (Su): +2 morale bonus on saves vs charm/fear +2 comp bonus on attack and weapon dmg
Osric wastes NO time and unloads into the shadow figure. Doing a solid 103 points of damage! The figure howls in agony, but doesn't go down.
The howl becomes a snarl: The shadow steps through one of the arches only to come out right next to Osric. He attacks with a weapon that looks like nothing more than a shadow ATK: 1d20 + 18 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 18 + 6 = 34 for DMG: 1d6 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 6 = 13
The other shadow extends something towards Darius ATK v. Touch AC: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (8) + 15 = 23. The touch feels colder than the grave STR dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Round 1:
Osric: Arrows of Death
Roos: Bardic
Baddies: STUFF
Darius: Go
Ignatious: Go
Roakar: Go
Mystery: 103
Shadow: 0
Roakar |
"Treachery!"
Roakar then Rages, activates Raging Brutality and Come and Get Me, activates a round of haste from his boots, and then attempts to clear the room of the wrongness, attacking Eliza first.
(Attacks are +3 magical)
Atk 1: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (4) + 28 = 32... DMG 1: 1d12 + 42 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 42 + (3) = 49
Atk 2: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (8) + 28 = 36... DMG 2: 1d12 + 42 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 42 + (4) = 54
Atk 3: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (10) + 28 = 38... DMG 3: 1d12 + 42 + 1d6 ⇒ (9) + 42 + (1) = 52
Atk H: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (1) + 28 = 29... DMG H: 1d12 + 42 + 1d6 ⇒ (7) + 42 + (3) = 52
If Eliza is destroyed, Roakar will 5 ft step between attacks to hit the other shadow.
Ignatious the Seeker of Flame |
Honestly, I was more concerned about the Ioun Stones, and I just figured the rest was due to the nature of the room. :P
Not expecting this turn of events at all, I'll move towards the other and Channel Smite it, calling on the pure energies of life to wreath my blade as I thrust it into the shadow nearest me. Showing that both Mother and Father are pleased, and for once in unison, the blade made to appear as a flame suddenly catches on fire as well just before striking, (if the Crit confirms).
Scimitar: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30 <Crit Threat, finally!!!>
Positive Energy Damage (+1d6 Acid): 1d6 + 1d6 + 17 ⇒ (3) + (4) + 17 = 24
Channel Smite (Will DC 22 for Half): 7d6 + 19 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 1, 2, 3, 5) + 19 = 40
Scimitar: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23
Extra Crit Positive Energy Damage (+2 Fire): 1d6 + 17 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 17 + 2 = 25
Unclear on if the Channel Smite gets doubled on a Crit or not.
Dungeon Master S |
You're fully corporeal, just shrouded somehow (and it foils True Sight, Pathfinders are a suspicious lot.
Roakar's first swing knocks the head off of Eliza, and you hear an ioun stone hit the floor. Ignatious's smite is more than the other creature can take, even though the creature feels like little more than dense smoke, he cleaves it in two...
out of combat....
Roakar |
Roakar, hearing the ioun stone drop, goes and picks it up. He the stops and thinks to his stone How many stone souls are there in total?
"Should we take the rest of the stones with us, so that they can't bring in reinforcements?"
He then grabs the headless corpse, tosses it on his shoulder, grabs the missing head by the hair, and is ready to move out.
Dungeon Master S |
Roakar, you can tell that the body can't be Eliza's. It's FAR too heavy, and the hair is barely long enough to grab...
Ignatious the Seeker of Flame |
<Edit> Actually rereading the description earlier, I didn't understand how dark it was here. I was thinking more along the lines of a thin fog, more flavor than anything. So, first, I'll use my natural Daylight Ability to see if that helps.
"We need to get to the various Faction's rooms. We have no idea just when we lost the real Eliza, so be ready for a trap, but we still need to try."
Ioun Stone, lead the way.
Also, if it wasn't done already, Magic Circle vs Evil on Roos. Then I'll try to leave the room to look around, following the Ioun Stone if it tries to direct us anywhere.
Dungeon Master S |
The arches seem to be portals, but they're not keyed in any way you can determine. The room beyond holds a macabre sight. In the center of this small circular chamber rises a pillar of pale white ether. Within the column twist the ghostly forms of thousands of silently screaming angels. Despite the highly trained and skilled knowledge you possess, no one knows exactly what this is.
Beyond that is a room with a view both breathtaking, and horrible. To the north is a windowed room, its broad windows allow viewers a stunning view of Absalom and the surrounding isle. The walls are decorated with framed maps of the Inner Sea, sky charts, and various instruments of astronomy and navigation. Three dead Pathfinders lie strewn across the furniture, their throats slashed and their equipment stripped.
Soon Roakar emerges with the body into the normal light. HE drags not Eliza, but a decapitated half-orc. Under the gaze of your spellcasters you see he's armed and ready for battle with exquisite gear. (+3 chain shirt, +1 kukri, +2 short sword, ring of protection +2).
To the left is a long, curved hallway that encircles the perimeter of the tower. Numerous doorways throughout the hallway lead to various interior rooms. During the day, light filters in from rows of narrow, steeply arched windows. At night, waxy, incense-scented torches set into sconces between the windows light the corridor.
Roakar |
"Definitely no Eliza." Roakar says as he chucks the decapitated body to the floor, with little respect, near the couches. He begins to strip the corpse of it's useful items and looks for any other useful things (notes, maps, plans, identifying objects, etc). "Anyone need an upgrade?"
If no one upgrades their items, Roakar will strap on the kukri and short sword, and swap out his ring of prot for the new one.
"Can never have too many weapons."
once everyone is grouped up, Roakar will then recon a couple of rooms using his gloves of recon, touching the walls @ the red arrow locations.
Dungeon Master S |
Excuse the super rough fog of war. It's not worth it to make a ton of complex shapes to get it exactly correct. Also, while I'm OOC, I was planning on being around through most of the holidays, but one of my oldest friends just told us he's going back to Iraq for round 4. (He's an O-4 and it's not very forward, but I'll be spending as much time with him as I can before he goes.) I'll post when possible, but I won't bot anyone between now and just after the new year. If you can post, awesome. If not, stay safe.
To the right Roakar finds a similar circular hallway. The room to the left is lightless on the other side, but it seems to be naturally so.
Roakar |
No problems. This will probably be my last day posting until mid next week when I get back from the whirlwind road trip of Christmas family visits.
Darius Swiftblade |
Sry for the absence folks, holidays are in full swing for me.. My posts will be light till next week..
Darius is drained by the shadow thing..
This wear off or? Its not giving me a neg penalty so it don't matter much..
He casts extended shield and stoneskin before moving on..
Roos Randermin |
back and caught up on the carnage the team inflicted.
"Well then that is the ugliest Eliza i have ever seen." Roos says after Roak comes back with his catch. "Half Orcs in drag....Roak you need better taste in women. The gear is not bad but I dont think I need any of it. Really Roak- you only have two hands...maybe we can find a spell that lets you grow two more sets of arms and then you an wield all of those weapons."
happy holidays!
Dungeon Master S |
I'm back. Intermittent until Wednesday night, but back.

Where to now Pathfinders?

Darius is drained by the shadow thing..This wear off or? Its not giving me a neg penalty so it don't matter much..
"Hmm. Here, let me take a look." taking off his sizzling gloves, he replaces them with another pair, then allows his sense to find the issue, as if following some sort of invisible trail within Darius's body. For a moment he stops, poking a finger a bit roughly into the small crease between the shoulder and pectoral area, which then seems to glow a soft green spectral mist for a second only. "Ah, yes. You have a blockage. It is like ice, but more of the soul than just frozen water." Laying an open palm on his head as he closes his eyes, the conglomerate of Ioun Stones in in forehead for a moment flairs, and Darius is purged.
Heal DC 20: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (11) + 20 = 31
Essentially using Lesser Restoration 1/Day with Vest of Surgery. After that, return to my other Gloves.
=======================================================================
If no one has any issues with it, following Roakar's descriptions, I'll go attempt to open the door he is slightly closer to. "Anyone have any idea where the "Faction Rooms" might be?"
Assuming there is nothing that would make me not want to, I'll enter that area and take a cursory look around.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

Back
"No clue. Maybe the doors have signs or somethin'"
Just to make sure it's up, roakar pulls out his wand of darkvision and pops a charge.
umd: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (2) + 17 = 19 Ha! Lets try that again
The wand refuses to activate. Roakar gives it a nasty stare, shakes it back and forth with extreme vigor, and threatens it in a hushed but angry tone. "Listen up you stupid stick. Give me what I want and I won't start a fire with your tinder!" He then trys again.
UMD 2: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (19) + 17 = 36
"Better"
Roakar puts the wand away and takes up a position next to Ignatious.
Roos Randermin |
Roos watches Roak finagle with the wand and then yell at it when it does not do what he wants it to do, as if they wand is scared of a barbarian rage...all of that amuses Roos as he chuckles...
Dungeon Master S |
Ignatious returns to exploring after acting as a doctor as Roos has a chuckle.
This room is entirely lightless. Within the center stands a massive, metal-framed cylinder filled with strange black liquid. A plaque upon its base reads “The Orvian.” The strange liquid within the cylinder seems to devour any light and gives off an eerie chill.
The liquid is a strange substance known as black blood, collected from the lightless Vaults of Orv far below Golarion’s surface.
Roos Randermin |
Roos inspects the room and eyes the liquid...
Arcana: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16
.......and he has no idea what it is...
"Looks like some sort of jelly or jam...I could be wrong though."
Darius Swiftblade |
Darius can take 10 for an Arcana 32 check..
"The liquid is a strange substance known as black blood, collected from the lightless Vaults of Orv far below Golarion’s surface. Not sure they would collect that stuff.. Perhaps there is a creature living within that needs the stuff.."
Dungeon Master S |
Darius: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27
Shirley: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (18) + 18 = 36 Darkvision, Low-Light
Ignatius: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20 Darkvision
Osric: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 24
Roos: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22
Roakar: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (3) + 17 = 20
Darius and Shirley both point out that there is a hidden compartment in the base of the device...whatever it's purpose.
Osric Longstride |
I'm back too!
Once Osric enters the lightless room, he will cast Darkvision on himself as well. Unsure of the import of Darius' revelation, he merely keeps quiet while nodding slightly to himself.
Darkvision is a standard prepared spell for me. I am pretty sure I haven't cast it yet in this part.
Ignatious the Seeker of Flame |
This room is entirely lightless. Within the center stands a massive, metal-framed cylinder filled with strange black liquid. A plaque upon its base reads “The Orvian.” The strange liquid within the cylinder seems to devour any light and gives off an eerie chill.
I think I recognize this from The Darkest Vengeance, but have not played it with this character. :P
======================================================================
I'll walk up to it and see if I can figure out how the device works, and/or for what purpose, without actually activating it.
Know Arcana/History/Nobility/Planes/Religion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Know Local: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
I can also activate Daylight Spell-Like Ability if we like instead of Darkvision, just let me know. We have plenty of opportunities for light. I'd probably not want to activate it near the machine, though, just so we don't risk harming or destroying the light-eating liquid.
Roos Randermin |
"If we want to remain in darkness I can cast a spell to alter my appearance and gain darkvision. Ossy has his darkvision spell, Iggy has natural darkvision just need to know from Roak and Darius if we stay in the dark or use Iggys light."
Ignatious the Seeker of Flame |
A little bit metagamy, but at our level I don't think Darkness (vs Deeper Darkness) is going to be coming up too much. Also, after the crap that happened with my Thor character I have a big pet peeve with the darkness/light rules guidelines. On one hand, I do have the unbeatable ability, but I don't want to run the risk of spoiling any further Shadow threats, or like I said, potentially harming this "Orvian". On the other, it's there as a last ditch thing.
Roakar |
I currently have darkvision up. Also, if you don't want to waste a spell, I have daylight in my hand of glory.
Dungeon Master S |
I hear you Ig.
Ignaious is unsure about the purpose of this contraption...
Dungeon Master S |
In case it was missed, there is also a secret compartment in the base of the structure.
Ignatious the Seeker of Flame |
Oh, I thought it was part of the devise, and I was thinking I didn't want to do anything with it until we understood what it was a little better.
I'll try to see if it can be opened.
Dungeon Master S |
It looks like it's a simple matter to just open it.
Roos Randermin |
Roos hides behind the massive size of Roak in case there is a bomb or something else just as dangerous inside the secret compartment...
Dungeon Master S |
Osric eyes the compartment as Ignatious begins to open it. The ranger then stops him as he catches that there's a trap. If Ignatious opens the compartment now, the black ichor will flood into the compartment...and all over the person opening it.
Ignatius: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Osric: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (18) + 17 = 35
Dungeon Master S |
Adril is getting away! I'm not in a rush, I just don't want to lose momentum. I know Osric needs to wrap things up, and we're 85% of the way through the entire series. Just checking in with you guys.
Ignatious the Seeker of Flame |
Outside of poor connectivity on and off, I'm good. Was mostly waiting on others.
Dungeon Master S |
No problem.
So we currently have a secret compartment that we know to be trapped...
Roakar |
"Let's just let this be. While I am usually all for taking what we find along the way to help myself and the Society....this stuff already belongs to us and more specifically the decemverate."
Ignatious the Seeker of Flame |
Part of me wants to just take the hit and "consume" it, but I also kind of think that it might be important for something else. So, I'll leave it up to the party. I can open it, (or someone else could), we could attempt it from a distance, we could just leave it, or do we have another option? Can anyone deal with traps?
I'll go ahead and check, does the compartment (or device) radiate magic or evil?
