Thorgrym the Tracker |
Round 2
The brindle dog alternates between growling and then whimpering slightly and spinning around trying to figure out what is causing the pain.
Thorgrym is slightly surprised at the viscious counter attack the crazy tiger thing made last round. Some of the hurts were made less by the Calistrian Rogue's quick healing spell.
Bolstered by the healing the ranger gets back into the fight. Shoulder to shoulder with Odric Grym lays in with both blades.
Main attack (power) 1d20 + 12 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 12 - 2 = 22
Svord 1d6 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 4 = 12
Off hand power attack 1d20 + 13 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 13 - 2 = 30
Shark Slayer 1d4 + 4 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 2 + 4 = 12
2nd attack 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Svord 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Confirming crit for offhand attack
1d20 + 13 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 13 - 2 = 30
Extra damage 1d4 + 4 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 2 + 4 = 12
Thorgrym set up an exceptionally powerful thrust with his dagger.
Morkeleb the Mighty |
[dice=ranged touch]d20+4-4 <--hah!!
the reason for the "hah" was that I'd forgotten the "d" on "d20" and it came up as a 20, so I thought it was a crit. When I corrected and added the 'd' I forgot to remove the "hah" when it wasn't a 20. D'oh.

Round 1 Recap:
Ferox: Miss
Odric: HIT
Grym*: Hit
Morkeleb: ineffectual
Baddies: RAWR
Gaius: Readies
DeGrog: Double moves
Round 2 Recap:
Ferox focuses and lands an arrow on target breaking off a row of well-preserved teeth. The second arrow goes wide, but the damage is done. Odric continues his furious thrashing. The creature has no true anatomy, so his hits don't seem to be extra amazing, but still, they damage the thing pretty severely. Grym similarly lays into the thing, chipping away. As he pulls his dagger out the "wound" is filled with arcane acid, melting away the preserved flesh.
I'll post enemy turn in 1 hour.
Ferox: Hit
Odric: Hit
Grym*: Hit
Morkeleb: ineffectual
Baddies: RAWR
Gaius: Readies
DeGrog: Double moves
Baddie: 81

Dungeon Master S |
That was my mistake. The ineffectual was from the magic missile before, and I didn't retype the acid. You have the scroll, and the acid damage worked just fine.
The beasts heads unleash:
Against Odric:
Bite 1: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (16) + 20 = 36 DMG: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (1, 1) + 7 = 9
Bite 2: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (2) + 20 = 22 DMG: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (4, 6) + 7 = 17
Against Grym:
Bite 3: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (4) + 20 = 24 DMG: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (1, 3) + 7 = 11
Bite 4: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (8) + 20 = 28 DMG: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 6) + 7 = 18
Gaius and DeGrog to finish Round 2.
DeGrog Coarse-Hair |
Round 2
If Gaius backs up after taking and action:
DeGrog drops his trident, draws Salt Reaver, and takes a five ft. step into the square behind Odric and Grym.
Pardon me, me Groggies! DeGrog smirks while his ship mast-like legs take him into a full lunge, Cutlass flashing in between Odric's attacks. Odric wonders where this third arm of his came from as Salt Reaver weaves in and out, tickling some of the tiger heads' whiskers.
Lunge, +5' reach, -2 AC until next turn.
Aid Another, to hit AC 10
1hand w/+1 cutlass: 1d20 + 15 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 15 - 4 = 28 Success! +2 Odric's next attack.
Some of the tiger heads try in vain to snap at DeGrog's distracting blade like a kitten batting at a string.
AC until next turn= 25 (shield, lunge, cover)
If Gaius doesn't back up:
DeGrog plants a foot and hurls his javelin between Odric and Grym at the swarm of tiger heads:
MW cold iron javelin, thrown:: 1d20 + 10 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 10 - 4 = 12
if for some reason it's not a miss: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 dmg
. . . and angrily wills Salt River to appear in his hand

not round action
The ranger hollers over his shoulder as he fights. Sandor! Degrog! This tiger beastie has a mighty bite. One of you may need to take my front line spot.
Ill step back after my round 3 action
Morkeleb the Mighty |
ROUND 3
Morkeleb draws out another flask--this time, alchemist's fire--and lobs it over the melee combatant's heads, again at the creature's ample backside.
Ranged Touch: 1d20 - 4 + 4 ⇒ (20) - 4 + 4 = 20 <--buh-buh-BOOYAH
fire damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
(just in case this can be critted...)
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 - 4 = 10
fire damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Dungeon Master S |
Anything that rolls a d20 to hit can earn a crit. Animated Objects, however, are immune.
DeGrog Coarse-Hair |
--
Round 2 has not been resolved; and round 2 recap has DeGrog listed as double move, which is inaccurate (that's what he did round 1).
Round 1: Gaius moved in and Cured Grym; Sandor readied; DeGrog double moved.
Round 2: Gaius has yet to act. DeGrog's round 2 action depends on what Gauis does. Sandor remaining readied (?)
-unless I'm missing something

You are right. Some people are jumping the gun a little.

Round 2
DeGrog does this:
DeGrog drops his trident, draws Salt Reaver, and takes a five ft. step into the square behind Odric and Grym.

INITIATIVE REPOST:
Ferox: = 22+
Odric: = 22
Grym*: = 21
Morkeleb: = 18
Baddies: = 16
Gaius: = 14
Sandor: = 8 (readied)
DeGrog: = 6
Ferox up!
Dungeon Master S |
With DeGrog's help and Gaius providing the opening, Odric slashes twice in the exact same spot, destroying the last of the magics holding the monstrous decor together.
Out of initiative:
XP: 914 Each
Thorgrym the Tracker |
The ranger pats Odric on the shoulder for a fight well done against a difficult foe.
Grym quickly searches the room post fight.
Perception 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
Dungeon Master S |
The room itself is quite empty, there is only the lever, until Grym discovers a secret door in the South East that the tiger heads were effectively covering.
Thorgrym the Tracker |
Grym points out the secret door to Gaius so he can check it for traps. But then stops and first asks the Calistrian for some healing forhimself and Odric.
After some healing and a "trapfree" signal from Gaius, Grym will open the door while the other warriors cover him with steel.
Sandor Stouthammer |
While the dwarf helps his friends look for traps secret doors, levers, or anything out of the ordinary Thorgrym, Odric ya lads did a good thin agan' tha tiger whaddayacallit, but ya got chewed up pretty good lad lookin at Grym I just wanna remind ya that I'm wearin some good Dwarven Steel to protect agan' bites like 'hat.
While the healing is being doled out, and everyone's getting set Here's me take on the matter. This is a labrynth, and by it's very nature it's supposed ta have traps now I'm not sure if'n tha last beastie was a trap, or a guard, but I'm bettin it was a trap 'n by that assumption I'm assumin there will be a way ta turn it off. My reasonin fer this assumption is tha the owners of this maze havta 'have a way ta move around it wit out so much danger, 'n we didn't find any key or magic device on the tigerman.
I guess wha I'm tryin ta say is lets not be in a hurry take our time a bit, ya I know we're here ta rescue Vencarlo, but the man knew he was still alive down here so apparently he has some way of monitoring him/us. Morkelb what's the easiest way of doin that? Ohh we also know he wants Vencarlo, and the Senechal alive I can't say that he wants that for us. Just think about it fer a second
Sandor places his hand on Grym's shoulder and in a low voice Lad I'll be the first one through it's my job 'n one I do with pride
DeGrog Coarse-Hair |
That's some fine blade work Mates! I still feel like I had too much goblin grog the night before. Didn't the wizard say it will wear off soon - shall we rest before fighting any more of the likes o' these kitties?

The ranger nods, We took some hits but we were giving out some good hits. I knew you were standing steady at my back if need be. Thorgrym holds his arm out to the secret door, You can take this one. Perhaps Bucho and I will pull rear guard for a bit.
Odric the Stout |
Morkeleb, what is that clunky black piece of metal I see poking out of your backpack? It looks heavy.
…
By Gorum's Glorious Grundle! What is that?!?!
…
Wow! Thanks!
…
Grym, please watch my back, Sandor can you give me a hand with this?
Six minutes later, Odric stands beaming, his first set of full plate armor fits him perfectly, the enchantment wrapping the steel around his musculature like it were Gaius' stretchy party pants.
The glossy armor sports a prominent silver hourglass on the breastplate, which is stylized and has a buffed satin shine to it. The effect is striking. Over all, Odric straps his trusty war kilt and belts on his girdle of giant strength to complete the ensemble. Weapons, pouches, packs are all shifted accordingly, and the gigantic warrior practices drawing and sheathing all of his various weaponry in rapid succession.
Sweeeeee…eee…eeeeee…eee…t
Thorgrym the Tracker |
The ranger and his dog smoothly assume guard duty. Bucho to the north of the room, Thorgrym to the south. The ranger idly snaps his magical dagger out and smoothly transitions back and forth from hand to hand.
Grym's mind starts to waunder down the trail of Odric's odd sayings. Gorum's Grundle always seemed strange enough. Gorum's "Glorious" Grundle was a little too over the top. "What would make a grundle glorious?..."
Before letting his imagination start to horrify him he stopped that train of thought and simply decided that nothing would make THAT glorious. His first thought of something glorious reminded him of a beautiful painting of Sarenrae, The Dawn Flower. His favorite interpretation was a painting he had seen once in one of the back rooms at the temple rarely seen by those who were not initiates. His old mentor had shown it to him. It showed the goddess bathed in the fiery morning sun, holding a blazing curved svord. Probably what he found most intriguing about it (other then the magnificent blade), was her very full bosum and well rounded hips clad in the flimsiest of robes...
Quietly he said to himself, The DawnFlower's double D's. Upon hearing it, he decided against it. He wasnt the most reverent person but he didnt feel right saying that. He would have to come up with something better.
Thorgrym the Tracker |
"By the shorn Flower of Sarenrae! This armor is incredible!" Odric gushes.
Grym is carefully to keep a straight face as he overhears Odric's latest oath. Disrespectful or not. THAT would truly be glorious.
Dungeon Master S |
ha! That Odric/Grym exchange was awesome.

Sandor locates and uses the door's hidden switch. A section of the wall recedes into itself and exposes a room to the east.. A ten-foot-wide, two-foot-tall well rises from the center of this circular room. Inky water fills the well nearly to its rim, obscuring its depths. A stone statue of a rearing snake rises from the center of the well. Along the length of the serpent’s body are carved dozens of arms crossed over the creature’s belly—each arm grips a long curved blade. The statue’s serpentine head rises ten feet above the surface of the water, gazing down coolly to the northeast with amethyst eyes.
