"I'll tell you a story.
They called me to be the star witness at the trial in Lepidstadt of the Beast. The beast came at first to attack us carefully, only attacking those who straggled out of doors and after dark. But then, he grew in confidence, and started breaking into domiciles to attack my neighbors.
So I came up with a plan: several of us hid in places that made it easy to observe the areas around the village, and when the beast attacked, we all attacked him at once.
He was 7 feet tall, and exceedingly ugly. We burned him with torches, and he fled to the nearby water.
He made quite a bit of noise which made it easy for us to follow him in boats. There's a small islet nearby, the Boneyard, which was our community's cemetary. He led us there.
At that point he was attacked by a huge alligator, which bit his leg, and pulled him underwater. The beast swore profusely.
I thought that the alligator "deathrolled him: to whit, grabbed him by the leg and, rolling his body around and around, shredded the beast, drowned him, and then hanging his corpse under a submerged log for the meat to tenderize prior to consumption.
(As an aside,......although I look younger, I'm actually 88 years old).
Imagine how surprised I was to find out that the awful Beast still lived on after the gator's tender ministrations,....I just had to go to town, give my story, and help in any way I could to ensure that the awful menace to life and limb is burned at the stake.
What's more, I'm sure my story is quite surprising and unbelievable; nonetheless it is utterly true, and if you don't believe me, I don't care.
Edwin Drood |
"Indeed. Wha'll I believe yeh!" Edwin tells the elder. And true to his word, tells the locals the story of the great Archmage Harry HouseSin and his monstrous Golems.
later, with his companions, he muses aloud.
"But, even if the story is completely true, it still begs several questions. Not the least of which is, WHY would the Beast carry off people? And what was he doing in the graveyard? I suspect that a visit to the local cemetery is in order,...
Edwin Drood |
Edwin smirks slightly.
"I assure you, having discoursed with the Beast, however briefly, it is easy to ascertain that swear words are not merely IN his vocabulary, but provide the majority of it." He assures Larissa.
"However you bring up a good point. One I must confess I had not considered until you mentioned it. Everyone is so convinced that the 'Beast' did all he is accused of, and indeed his low temper threshold would support their belief. But,... what if he isn't the only one,...?"
"I think we need to visit the local cemetery. Let us obtain directions and examine the scene ourselves."

"We'll get you over there in a boat. Go ahead, and get you some victuals in your belly first," says Big Daddy.
I'll kick that off tomorrow night. Man, I really got my ass kicked at work today; came home and saw to sick son.....I'm gonna crash so I have some energy to do it all again tomorrow.
Lady Alinya Gurov |
What does Alinya know abouthow or whether flesh golems heal? Kn Arcana: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21, Kn Dungeoneering: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27.
Alinya eats daintily, just enough to be polite. She nods suddenly when Larissa asks what else looks like the beast, and says, "What if the beast was killed by the alligator here; but more than one was made? Even this so-called Archmage of Edwin's had more than one golem."

They do not heal normally. They're essentially animate inanimate objects cobbled together from old corpses; however,.......they ARE healed by electricity, such as a lightningbolt spell.
Edwin Drood |
Edwin enjoys the spicy gumbo, although he probably spends more time trying to identify the individual spices in it than actually eating it,...
The corner of Edwin's mouth twitches at Big Daddy's declaration.
"Indeed. Ah'm shu-wah dat wuud be anudder guud tale tew add tew mah collection!" He tells Big Daddy, in between complimenting the chef on the gumbo.

They take you guys to the abandoned boneyard.
It's an island of firmament in the swamp; they get you out there in little boats.
Briefly,.....they consider it to be tainted somehow by the golem. They have moved their cemetary elsewhere, although they haven't disinterred the dearly departed who lie in the abandoned boneyard.......
What do you do? Where do you wish to disembark?
The bright green is grassy area; the darker green is where there are stands of trees; rather thick, rather tangled, and tall stout bushy trees, I might add.
Edwin Drood |
Sorry to hear that HEathy. Hope things get better, along with Heathy Jr! :)
"Over there I think my fine fellows!" Edwin says, then seeing the blank looks on the faces of his swamp-dwelling rowers, repeats himself.
"O'er dere lads! Dat's a guud spot teh start ah reckin'!" He corrects himself.
We can start whereever teh group decides. I figure were gonna have to do a sweep of most of the area to find clues.
Rholf Kastigarr |
I did some foil and saber fencing back in the day. LOVE saber fencing. Epee just annoyed me... lol Glad your boy's feeling better, Heathy... Strep is brutal, but them thar Z-Packs are awesome!
Rholf doesn't much care where to start as he, like Edwin, is figuring that the whole area will need to be sorted through. "I'd say put us aground where ya'll usually parked..."

I'm glad Zithromax really works for somebody; we had to switch him to Omnicef.......
Edwin Drood |
Naw, I never took fencing. Too many rules for me! ;P I do staged combat. Safer, and get to do lots of fun moves! :)
Edwin examines the area with Larissa, noting the (lack) of water depth, comparing to the height of the creature, and noting the nearby landmarks,...
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
K:Geography: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
K: Local: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

Two mods to the map:
there's a boat, brown; that's what you guys rowed up in.
Edwin notices in the stand of trees, a black rectangle; it's......something, bigger than a breadbox, about 15 foot long and maybe a third that in height; camoflaged with branches and leaves.
I need positions at this point.
Larissa Brightfoot |
Sorry, I misread the map. Larissa should be G13. Castiel will move directly 'inland' from the rowboat. He will look for signs of undead activity (due to the nature of the location) and scan the area for evil. J12 for Castiel, please.
Castiel's Perception check 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Castiel's Knowledge Religion 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
