Hey all, please reply with the following to this thread so I can get the chronicles all lined up and ready to go!
PFS #:
Faction:
Chronicle #:
Day Job Roll:
Also, if you could pre-emptively level up to level 6 (have the copy-paste text ready to go - don't change your profile and interrupt From Under Ice!), that'd be great. You'll have time to retroactively make purchases between games.
For faction reward cards, if you want me to sign the chronicle sheet and you know what the reward will be (eg. adventure in Absalom) we can do that now, otherwise we'll sort it out at the end. I don't think I need to sign anything, though, so the honor system totally works for me (since we all play these characters together anyway).
Thanks in advance for helping us to hit the ground running on this one!

Going in a slightly different direction than originally planned. Instead of getting the agile enchantment, I will be getting the slashing grace feat (when I hit level 7). I got an extra ninja trick at 6th level due to my favored class (+1/6 ninja trick) so I used it on a combat trick to get weapon focus(wakizashi), which is the last feat tax I need to pay to get slashing grace (add dex to damage!!!!)
When I hit level 7, my damage will make a nice jump. 1d6+5+4d6 from 1d6+2+3d6 - adds an extra avg 6.5 damage per attack.
This also gives me a pretty nice chunk of change that I can find something interesting to do with - or save for something even bigger...
Edit: So all that to say this - Other than purchases (potentially) Cyrus is ready to copy/paste with level 6 stats.

I'll have to level Gunari once we've finished Under the Ice. Hopefully we can finish this one relatively quickly.
Also, I need to decide what's coming back from his Expedition Manager he's using for his Day Job on Under the Ice. 3500gp toy... hmm... prob's gonna be a rod of extend spell, but I am not sure.
Oh, and I reserve the right to reroll AFTER the scenario if I still have it. :D
GM Damo |
No problems on the reroll... but you know you need to take the second result, even if worse, right? Not even you, the Great Silbeg, have 8 GM stars (the point at which you would be mathematically better off rerolling that 18!!!). :-)

Hey guys, so when we start this up, we'll really be on the clock. I've got some suggestions for moving things along quickly. Let me know what you think:
1: 8 hour bot clock for combats. Jyri, if you could try to post before bedtime and in the morning, that'd be great and I won't have you on the 8 hr timer unless you ask for it.
2: "Rule of 2": if at least two players post a direction, and none have disagreed, my next post will move it along in that direction.
3: Players requested posting rate of 2/day out of combat. I will aim for 4/day.
4: Combat mop mode: if the baddies are near death, I will roll it out to get the combat out of the way and move it along.
5: Take 10 monster lore knowledge checks. I will gather your knowledge rolls and assume a take 10 from everyone (+1d6 for Ibid). I will post monster ability reveals accordingly when I initiate combat.
How does all that sound? Thoughts and further suggestions are most welcome!
Gunari Maximoff |
the real key here is posting continually, and setting up contingencies for when you cannot post. 2/day is fine by me...
Caveat, next weekend I am running The Confirmation in one city, and then Tapestry's Toil in another (total driving of almost 150 miles, I think). That is Saturday.
Sunday I am playing Moonscar, but should be able to keep up when we have down time.
In either case, I will post contingencies.
Cyrus the Flea |
I am good with this - none of this takes away from character decisions, and helps us move things along so we can finish before gen con. Sounds great to me!

Finarin Moonstep |
I will be back to normal later this week but down for whatever helps get set up for gencon.
Miro Ammars |
Will attempt to keep up, but going through a system conversion at work which I am a part of, so might need botting at times.
GM Damo |
Hey all. Got what I could get done of the chronicles today (assumed you'd achieve your secondary success conditions, etc). Just need Ibid's day job roll and our finish date. I didn't want to confuse things by scanning them and sending them out with our From Under Ice chronicles yet to be released, but if you want to do GenCon preparation (I know I have with Lort) you get 3,382 gp from this chronicle.
Cyrus the Flea |
Nice! Thanks for the heads up!

Ok, not making any purchases, will have almost 8k to spend after this chronicle.
I was sure I had Cyrus level 6 ready to go, somehow it's not in my drop box. I'll get him updated tonight. Lots of fun stuff in this level.

Cyrus the Flea |
Added an extra post for RP - Totally plan on using that in the big backstory reveal once Ibid and I finish it... couldn't pass up the opportunity.
That and I am itching to post for some reason today... Maybe its because Gen Con is so close... I've got a fevah! [christopher walkin voice]
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
Player: Chris L
Character: Ibid Oxley Abel
PFS#: 141231-2
Faction: grand lodge
Chronicle #: 17
Day Job Check: knowledge(local, information broker): 1d20 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (19) + 11 + (1) = 31
Cyrus the Flea |
Ok, so Cyrus' profile is updated. Would have had it done today, but something is up with my dropbox... It isn't syncing files from my home computer to my other computers and vice-versa. Ugh...
Anyways - rundown. No purchases.
Gained:
Light steps - essentially do a double move and I don't touch the ground (ie I can walk on any surface without disturbing it/taking damage) as long as I end on a solid surface
Ninja trick - combat trick: weapon focus (wakizashi) Next level I take slashing grace to add my dex to damage instead of strength
Extra ninja trick due to favored class Wall climber: I get a climb speed of 20 feet.
Saves, BAB, etc all went up.
Amaranti |
Amaranti's level 6 is pretty boring. Got one more level 2 spell, +1 BAB +1 all saves.
Kaisharga got a new feat, and took Bodyguard. So everyone in Kaisharga's reach get now +2 AC (unless it rolls "1" on the aid check). It has 5 AoO's so should be enough for everyone... I think GM can roll those aids and calculate the AC into characters defences.
Gunari Maximoff |
The changes to Gunari were relatively straightforward. He gained a couple of skills, an extra 2nd level spell per day. With his bonus feat (with which he is treated as having a BaB +6 and Fighter 6 for), he selects Vital Strike!
It is sort of a loophole, in that he can get the second attack die of damage without having to actually have iterative attacks. The other possible choice was Weapon Specialization (Rapier), but I felt that the extra 1d8 (and eventually 1d10) of damage when he did a single attack was better than +2 damage on all attacks, given the way Gunari usually fights.
Generally speaking, he'll go for one good strike over multiple weaker ones (though I didn't do that in his last action -- trying to take advantage of the Haste)... trying being the operative word here. Damned 2.
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
@ GM Damo for both Cyrus and Ibid, this should be their 16th chronicle. Not 17th. Sorry for the confusion!
GM Damo |
Expect another post in about 8-9 hours, unless jet lag keeps me up. Please try to make any faction specific requests you may have over this time (no need to spoiler them, I just wanted to spoiler my tips). I will move along towards meeting with Ollystra in my next post, unless your characters suggest otherwise.
Finarin Moonstep |
Question, I have the treasure Map boon, and this chronicle will be my 3rd check box. So I get 150 x Character Level, so I will have 18 Xp and level to 7, so do I get 7 x 150 or 6 x 150?
Thanks, lots to buy ;)
Cyrus the Flea |
I think I asked this once... how do you get that boon? because that is awesome...
Finarin Moonstep |
Cons, you will have a chance at GenCon. I got it at AP con,and Xenophile Boon. Rolled 2 20s for boon rolls, and I have been sucking my d20 rolls ever sense.
Gunari Maximoff |
Exactly, Cyrus.
At Gen Con you get a token at every table you play (or GM) - and two tokens gets you a roll to see which boon you get... or you might "crit" and get to pick anything!
And one option there is product over a boon (now I wish that last year I had taken one of the books rather than the GM replay refresh, 'cause I got another one at another con).
Cyrus the Flea |
Reason number 578 why I cannot wait for this... So excited.

Gunari Maximoff |
I can just see you bouncing around... much like Cyrus. And then, when we're relaxing at Scotty's, you'll get all bashful, and tongue-tied... like Cyrus!
:)
Cyrus the Flea |
Ha! Funny how so much of your own personality ends up in your characters....
I may not clam up that much. I found an incredible woman who saw past my awkwardness and married me, so the awkward interaction with women is long in the past now that I'm not trying to impress any of them.
The bouncing around... There may still be some validity to that...

Amaranti |
I'm travelling during the weekend, might have trouble posting until tomorrow. Bot instructions: Kaisharga moves in, tries to bite and trip. Amaranti follows, hitting the same enemy with reach. Simple :)
Ibid. Oxley Abel |
So, I'm thinking taking Ibid through a few levels of fighter, to round out the investigator/ranger concoction he has going on. I know he'll be less useful skill-wise, but this should make him more useful in combat (bumping his BAB and providing a few more feats).
Do you guy think we need him keep leveling his knowledge for future checks? I figured making him a little more combat savvy might be more useful as we get to higher levels. Thoughts, comments, concerns?
Cyrus the Flea |
You can already hit dc30+ know checks, which is your biggest strength, I don't know the higher level stuff that week, but passing a few levels of extra skill points shouldn't make a noticeable difference, especially with miro's knowledge as well. I say go for it.
Finarin can do ranged, but he is much more effective in melee. You have been our primary ranged combatant... I think it makes sense.

(only after realizing that there was an old man there)
The old man is Gill *Cough* Ibid *Cough* - the man who unleashed the devils. He was taking us to Ollystra. Gunari must really be in his cups tonight!

Finarin Moonstep |
Anyone think it would be a good idea to stop by a shop and get a remove deafness scroll or spell cast? For 150, probably worth it.
Cyrus the Flea |
"So the upper row of holes, somehow those are tied to triggering a trap. That I know for sure. Here is my best guess how. Pulling these chains will flood this area with water. That is how we will get to the platform behind us. I feel relatively certain that if we flood the room to much, and the water flows into the holes above, we will be... well... that is what will trigger the trap. I think. Pretty sure. Mostly sure. Hope you can swim either way." Cyrus rambles for a few moments.
So I re-read my post in the voice of Fred/Toughnut (ie T.J. Miller from Big Hero 6, How to Train your Dragon, etc...) and I laughed out loud. Pretty sure I nailed it.
GM Damo |
Time for a bit of a rant - make sure you read the gameplay thread first...
Na-Kraka's tactics say he grapples the first opponent he sees - or whoever closes the book - but he doesn't even have improved grapple. I can't believe how sub-optimal this and his subsequent tactics are! Also, witches aren't great solo. Really, really not great. This combined with the Erinyes who can't summon or fly or even use her whip as described... or fire her bow without copping an AoO... I can totally see why the encounters, despite being of the right CR, are commonly described in reviews to be walk-overs. Good for running a scenario quickly, bad for overall enjoyment.
So I just went back over things (bestiary entry for a cecaelia) and he is supposed to have grab but it got missed in his subtier 6-7 stat block. Sigh. Also, the bonus he has for grappling would suggest he has improved grapple, but that doesn't appear in his feats or on the appropriate CMD entry. Sigh again. Also, the tactics say "attempts to grapple" not "attempts to hit with tentacles and then grab"... which is totally sub-optimal for this guy, and means he cops an AoO! Actually, for most opponents, this would be sub-optimal, but probably worked in his favor against Gunari (high AC, relatively low CMD).
That said, though, what do I do when stats don't add up in PFS*? He has a +12 base CMB, but +18 to grapple in his stat block. Grab gives him +4, and the only way +18 makes sense is for improved Grapple. However, his CMD doesn't have the additional +2 vs Grapple that Improved Grapple would give. Do I give him the feat or do I play his stats (and sub-optimal tactics) as they appear even though the stats, at least, are clearly in error?
* In running a regular AP, I'd just sort it out and ignore the tactics. Yet another reason why I'm loving running the AP and liking less and less the running PFS scenarios (at least, those where there are glaring errors and very poor tactics).
I don't mind typo's so much in general... except that when it's in the stat block, it just takes precious time to look all this f*cking bullsh*t up and sort it out. Grappling is a tricky proposition at the best of times without these spanners in the works.
Cyrus the Flea |
Ok - did we seriously finish an entire scenario in 103 posts? WTF?
I know we are good, but we shouldn't be THAT good... wow!
I enjoyed the story and the concept, felt like there could have been more detail, more angles to play at with the heaven vs hell thing... I would call it fun but underwhelming.
Bummer about the tactics typo - even more of a bummer that you have to work so hard to find out what was screwed up.
Eternal thanks again for all of your hard work Damien - especially considering your traveling situation and circumstances. Well done as always!
GM Damo |
I was pushing pretty hard to go forwards and I skipped the optional encounter (but not the voices leading up to it, those were cool, so I left them in). The scenario gave precious little in the way of flavor. There was a truckload of background for the GM that never gets revealed to PCs (unless they roll over 30 diplomatically and have an equivalent value item to the Celestial Song to trade with Na-Kraka).
It should 100% be noted that I selected this scenario for two major reasons:
- It was very low on roleplaying and details.
- The combats were very easy.
That was entirely so we could finish it in time for GenCon despite my trip to Australia. I'd say that, in this regard, it was a success!
Cyrus the Flea |
Got that right!
What was the optional encounter, for the record? Assuming more devils escaped?

All reported. Miro, just as a note, you've still got your character assigned to the Grand Lodge, so that's where your prestige went on the online reporting form.
If you'd like to change your character's faction to Sovereign Court so the prestige goes correctly, let me know and I can delete and re-add Miro to get it right.
Thanks all!
