*shrug* I had no luck in the last few recruitments I really wanted to get into, so may as well go with risky. Standing out may help as much as hinder.
Definitely would be "sane" enough to leave the Cathedral, but I rather considered that the priest saw her for what she is...a choosen by Desna, with her specific condition, the birthmark, and all- so that they less "kept her in" working as an asylum, and more so her metaphorical mental butterfly wings can unfold without the interferences of "normal" life(living in a small farming village could kind of cause problems there...)...in that scenario it would be as simple as her letting the priest know that she needs to go after enjoying a carefree life as acolyte for the past few years and never worrying about leaving the temple.(matter of fact, that could well be the RP post I turn in...it kind of makes sense if she "knows" beforehand that she'll need to leave soon).

Okay, I think this list should cover everyone that's either posted a complete/in-progress character as well as the folks who have dotted for interest or mentioned possible ideas that they may submit. Links to aliases provided for people who have created an alias, but some have also opted to simply post their information in the thread (likely and understandably in order to avoid alias bloat).

The list is terrific!
I did decide against Urban Druid in the end, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the archetype does detract from Wild Shape, which is her focus, but more importantly, the more I write her concept, the more it seems that Abadar would want to tap someone who would be willing to travel to protect civilization, and an Urban Druid might have more trouble leaving their city.

MordredofFairy |
ty for listing, but on second thought, I believe she will be "Blood Arcanist(Dreamspun)", and pick up school understanding for illusion via exploit.(plus she will focus on illusion(obvious), transmutation(make things as she sees it), divination(glimpse beyond), conjuration(create things she sees), -)
There's also a profile in progress here, though obviously not very much in there yet.(gonna be very busy until tomorrow around this time).

@LL- yes, thank you for the list. Brownie Points to the list keeper!
@Roakkad- yes. you have a birthmark of your god's holy symbol and have been brought to the priests of Sandpoint for training/guidance because people recognized how significant that is. and the priests there have recognized that you have a special power others don't... you may not appreciate the full weight of being chosen, or understand the specifics of it (why/for what/etc), but you definitely should have some awareness.
@Talene- yes. once the party is selected we'll take a few days to sort out the details of the characters relationships with each other, and I'll give some more details about the church/priests/etc that may influence backgrounds some. all of which is part of the reason I encouraged people to keep backgrounds short for now!

The Wyrm Ouroboros |

For what it's worth, the only non-humans are Karina of the Flame (half-orc) and Ularik (tiefling). Ceridwyn Reese appears to be human.

The Nethys Archives tell me mechanical info, but not really more than that. I never got that any of the gods woukd fit any kind of split duality or anything, yet some of the prior posters knew that.
Of course maybe there is a different area of the site I don't know about. The other site I found didn't help either, just the same mechanics info. I'm not worried about domain or anything yet, first I need something narrative to tie my concept to before developing it further, some of the story behind who these gods are and their personality, but all I can find is mechanics.
When it comes to Deities at least, the Archives *does* link each deity (in their individual pages) to their respective article on the Pathfinder Wiki. That information should help out more :)

@EJC- different ages is fine. i'm assuming that PCs will have arrived at the temple at different times- some may have been there since infancy (and been there when the old church burned down), others may have come when their powers started to manifest and been there for a few years... I've seen a few applications so far with PCs who really put off or resisted going to the temple and have only been there for a matter of months. When I was originally envisioning the campaign I was thinking all the characters would be early adulthood (between maybe 16-20, for humans) but that's a loose guideline.

MordredofFairy |
I think living at the temple, we should probably have knowledge religion...also with our "divine choosen", and it being a background skill...
However, as a character "quirk", she would, despite being Arcanist, have no knowledge-skills at all. But her Figment Sage Familiar covers those.
(I like the aspect that since it's just part of her imagination that she manifests, it actually IS knowledge she has...but can't access without this "channel").
That means, though, that if the Familiar fizzles, she'll be plenty clueless until she next prepares spells and he comes back. While that may be fine for most knowledge skills, would you prefer if certain ones(KN religion/arcana) are on her skillset instead?
(the figment sage butterfly should be a fluff/plot device, not gamey, after all...I did pick several non-optimal skills for her(perform, profession, heal...) that I could move into more "regular" skills)

Lia Tani |

[imagination]Ularik casually but gently swats Figment-girl upside the head. "Back to reality, missy."[/imagination]
Something that just popped into my head ... :P :)
"See, we are bonding already...but I don't think that worked...", Lia says before listening to the air next to Ularik for a moment, "No, definitely didn't work. Maybe it would be easier the other way round?", she asks, smiling at the monk, "say..., do you ever have Deja-Vus?"

AdamWarnock |

Ceridwyn's parents were from Magnimar, or to be more specific, from two old merchant families that had been feuding over an old contract for the past six or so generations. Unlike their predecessors, though, these two scions found themselves falling in love.
They knew that they couldn't stay in Magnimar, their families would have made life there rather difficult, so they left for Sandpoint after eloping. Despite the short journey to get there, the two families, the Reeses and the Maddoxes, never bothered the young couple and contented themselves with adding whose fault that was to the list of things they bickered about.
A few years later, they had a baby girl, and named her Ceridwyn. While it was a special occasion for the young couple, certainly, it was also one for the town. Ceridwyn had a mark in the middle of her back, between the shoulderblades, in the shape of a thrush with long, graceful tail feathers. The priests declared that she'd been chosen by Shelyn, and hers was a great destiny.
That was all fine and dandy, but her parents weren't going to let her grow up cloistered away in the small cathedral on the north end of town either.
As the years passed, Ceridwyn's parents became known for their works of art and their performances at the Hagfish, performances that were soon featuring Ceridwyn as well. Ceridwyn grew from a bouncy, bubbly baby into a rambunctious, boyish girl that, along with Ameiko and Nualia, whom she'd befriended, made more mischief than any five boys their age. As the three of them grew up, though, Nualia grew more distant, and soon Ceridwyn only saw her when she was at the cathedral studying under Father Tobyn or with one of the Shelynite clergy. She and Ameiko remained friends, and much to her parent's bemusement, the two of them seemed more than willing to make up for Nualia's absence.
That was until the pair of them turned thirteen. Ceridwyn had known Ameiko had been sneaking out at night, but to where, she didn't know, until Ameiko ran to Magnimar amidst rumors of a fight between her and her half-brother. For the first time in Ceridwyn's life, she felt hurt. She felt sorrow.
The next several months passed far too slowly. Tobyn made her study at the cathedral more and more, saying it was about time she focussed on her destiny, before he had her move into one of the free acolyte's cells. She saw Nualia as well, but she seemed more distant now. Slowly, her friends went on with growing up, drifting away from Ceridwyn as she continued to study and learn. She was far from a dullard, but she never seemed wise enough or sharp enough for Father Tobyn, and his temper only grew worse about a month after Ameiko had left.
Then came the Late Unpleasantness.
It started with Ceridwyn waking from a horrible dream that night. There was shouting and pleas to Desna and Pharasma that all would be well. She had tried to see what was going on, wanting to help even as frightened as she was, but Abstalar Zantus told her to stay in her room. The night passed slowly, and the next morning she learned that Nualia had fallen gravely ill. Father Tobyn sent her home, having little time to spare for her now.
That was when she learned that Ameiko's mother had fallen from the balcony of the Kaijitsu manor to her death. Confused, frightened, and very worried for her missing friend, Ceridwyn spent the next few days on the verge of a nervous collapse as her world was turned upside down again. When Ameiko arrived in Sandpoint, she nearly had her ribs crushed by Ceridwyn's hug. Both of them found a bit of happiness that day, after nearly a year apart, they were still friends.
Ceridwyn stood by Ameiko, giving her as much comfort and support as she could, during her mother's funeral. It was then that she witnessed Tsuto, Ameiko's half-brother claiming that Lonjiku threw Ameiko's mother from the balcony to the rocks below. Lord Kaijitsu broke his cane, and almost broke Tsuto's jaw. He left with a fury-filled curse, not even noticing Ameiko as she cried into Ceridwyn's shoulder.
Shortly after that, the Chopper struck. Three weeks into his killing spree, Ceridwyn's parents were found dead, their bodies hacked to pieces and their eyes and tongues plucked from their heads. It was Ceridwyn's turn to mourn, and she clung to Ameiko as her world was shattered. A little over a week later, it was discovered that Jervas Stoot, a man her father had admired for his craft and skill, was the murderer of her parents and all of the Chopper's other victims. Jargie agreed to help set her parent's affairs in order and to look after Ceridwyn until her closest family could come get her.
A month afterwards, the old cathedral burned, taking Father Tobyn, Nualia, most of Northern Sandpoint, and a few other poor souls with it. Numb from loss, Ceridwyn didn't know what to do now that most of her life lay in pieces around her. She still had Ameiko as her friend, but she was busy taking care of her father, and barely had the time to have a quick lunch or chat, much less get up to the shenanigans the two of them had become infamous for.
Ceridwyn found herself thinking more and more about the mark on her back. Why had she been chosen? What was she going to do. The late Father Tobyn had made it clear she had no aptitude as a priest, and Zantus, now the Head Priest after Tobyn's passing, didn't know what to do with the young girl that was supposed chosen by Shelyn.
Ceridwyn continued to ask, and, to her surprise, she was finding someone was answering. She'd been chosen not as a priest, but a knight. She was to be a guardian of the innocent, and a beacon to the repentant. She soon began studying the glaive under Savah and the arts and rites of Shelyn's faith under the guidance of the clergy in Sandpoint. Even as badly as she wanted to go with Ameiko when she left adventuring a few years later, she stayed, being told to wait by the voice that had been guiding her down her path to paladinhood. Even in the year that Ameiko was gone, the change that overcame Ceridwyn was striking. The sad, sorrow-filled girl that had been grew into a graceful, elegant young woman, even if she still harbored a mischievous streak a mile wide.
It was during this time that she felt the connection deepen. It was as if she could hear and speak to her goddess, and even now, as she reaches the end of her training, she can fill it grow more and more powerful.
-Ceridwyn was born in Sandpoint to the scions of two feuding merchant families with a mark like Shelyn's holy symbol on her back.
-She was friends with Nualia Tobyn and Ameiko Kaijitsu. She's not the sort to be shy around anyone, and her natural disposition would have lead to her making friends with the older girl that always seemed to be tricked or alone.
-As they grow up, Nualia becomes more distant, though Ameiko and Ceridwyn remain close and are friends up until the start of the game.
-During this time, she's studying under Father Tobyn. After Ameiko leaves Sandpoint the first time, he insists she move into the cathedral so she can focus more on her studies and training.
-Her parents are killed by the Chopper near the end of his rampage.
-She's lost for a little while, then finds that she can speak with Shelyn (or an agent of hers) and that she's meant to be a paladin.
-She spends the next five years in training, learning of Shelyn's faith.
-During those same years, she becomes the object of her parents' families' attentions. She's chosen by a goddess, after all, whichever family she chooses is chosen by extension (I plan on working this in on the next pass after selections. It was just getting too far over the limit to try it this time.)
-She's still friends with Ameiko, even if they can't get into the trouble they used to.

Gwyddym Soarsong |

I'd like to put forth Gwyddym, human Shelynite bard (full details in alias). I will put together a sample post tonight/tomorrow.
For the next 18 years, Gwyddym devoted his life to the beauty of music. Equally given to dance and to song, he routinely spends his days twirling around any open space he can find, singing to a song with no particular name. One of the benefits he found growing up in a Cathedral was access to a splendid library of knowledge. Young Gwyddym spent hours upon hours pouring over histories of the area as well as all manner of magical tomes. As other children were brought to the temple with marks similar to his, he sought their companionship, eager to befriend other people of his age.
When he was 13, the late unpleasantness saw Sandpoint nearly crippled in horror. Countless individuals flooded the Cathedral, looking for divine protection from the depravity of the Chopper. This all culminated a few months later when the Cathedral burned to the ground, taking from Gwyddym the only man he ever recognized as a father. By chance or design, Gwyddym had gone into town, getting supplies for the coming week as he often did. While he was out, he heard the cacophonous cries of despair that rose from the townsfolk as they watched their center of worship write in the agony of the blaze.
After the fire, Gwyddym's songs turned sorrowful for many months. As the new Cathedral was built and he saw the loving leadership of Father Zantus, the happiness came back into his music. Now, as his 18th birthday draws nearer, the town is preparing for the Swallowtail Festival and the dedication of the new Cathedral.

@Mordred- I have no objections at all to skills that are taken for flavor (that's the whole reason we're using background skills). As for which skills only your familiar has, that's totally up to you losing access to your knowledges when the familiar is gone could be inconvenient at a times but it won't bother me any...
@Ouroboros- on the list Ularik is recorded as unchained and 4 winds but unchained monks can't take archetypes... Which are you?
@EJC- we can make it work either way... If you came to the church early on then at some point one of the priests will have recognized his potential and arranged for a tutor; if you want to have come later he probably would have started out as a wizard's apprentice until the wizard discovered the meaning of his birthmark and delivered him to the temple.
@Adam- remember I modified humans a bit...

I think Ularik's Four Winds archetype is a community-designed/updated version meant to work with the Unchained monk.

The Wyrm Ouroboros |

Having reviewed everything, I'll be going with standard monk, using both the Qinggong Monk and the Monk of the Four Winds archetypes. (Which is practically an unchained variant as it is, but there ya go.) Technicals revision will be up shortly. Quick question, though - nine-ring broadswords are monk weapons, and the unchained monk has proficiency; will the standard monk have proficiency with them, or shall I go with something else? (I've removed the nine-ring broadsword until a ruling is made.)
Also, a general question - is Chelaxian still a language, or is the common trade language that of Cheliax? Decided Ularik was born early in the Chelaxian 'experiment' with Lower Plane deals, and thus had his early years in Cheliax, but my Hero Lab isn't showing Chelaxian as a valid language option.
Aaaand ... technicals!!

@Ouroboros- sorry, no, monks are not proficient with the 9-ring broadsword... They are, however proficient with the temple sword which is probably a superior weapon. Also Chelaxian is no longer a language in some of the earlier publications they list it as one but later publications all have Taldane/Common as the language of Cheliax
@Carl- my reasoning for 'Sarenrae only' was that her association with redemption seemed like the only way a being with that kind of lineage and predisposition towards evil would be chosen... If you feel strongly that you've got a story that really makes sense and could convince me otherwise, go for it.

AdamWarnock |

@Nate: There's actually some precedence for Desna choosing a demon in Wrath of the Righteous' plot. Admittedly, it's more of "I'm giving you a second chance, take or leave it." Still I could see Desna choosing a tiefling to give them a chance to make that journey from being someone disposed to evil to being someone disposed good.
I'm happy with Ceridwyn, though. I'll try to have some more up tonight.

nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |

@tony- did his fiance die too? was it someone he knew/loved, or a stranger his parents chose? how old was he when he was supposed to wed and how long has he been in Sandpoint now?
@adam- thanks. I guess (based on my own response to Carl) that I'll allow tiefling applications for any god but with the understanding that you're really going to need a stellar background that explains why they were chosen instead of a race without their baggage.

The Wyrm Ouroboros |

Actually, it's 'only Sarenrae for tieflings'. I misread that too. ;) ('If tiefling, then Sarenrae', not the other way around.) And not a problem with the 9-ring/temple swords; just that a Large 9-ring is within my price range, and a Large temple sword isn't. No problem, I'll figure something out. ;)

Tony_Sinclair |

Alright, updated updated version 2 is a go!
Born into riches and nobility, Tony Sinclair had a pretty sheltered life. Anything he could ever want was handed to him on a silver platter, literally. His family loved him, he was engaged to his childhood friend Freya Blackthorn, heir to the Blackthorn noble family of Varisia, they were ment to join both houses in partnership, life was good. The Sinclair family was a noble house which raised through the ranks of power through trade, particularly lumber.
They lived in a particularly heavy forested area of Varisia and used the bounty of nature to fund their rise to power. The family had repeatedly come to blows with druids many times in their history and did not have a good relationship with the church of Erastil, in fact Tony's father openly mock them on several occasions, ignoring the fact his son had a mark that suspiciously looked like the dead eyes emblem, and unknowingly gaining the ire of Erastil himself.
on the night before his wedding, on his 15th birthday, Tony decided to go on a hunt. He wasn't able to find anything and quickly through in the towel. But on his way back, he ran into a pure white stag trapped under some fallen trees. It was one of the most beautiful creatures he had ever seen, its antlers were large and resembled branches and vines wrapped themselves around the stag's legs, the only thing that ran through Tony's mind was how majestic and beautiful this creature was. he spent hours trying to free the stag and once he did, he watched contently as it ran away, completely in awe of the beast.
When he went to bed for the night he dreamed, in his dreams he saw his family fighting against a group of druids, he saw his family using its political power to make Erastil and Gozreh worshipers lives harder, he saw his family defiling a temple of Erastil in spite. He saw all these things and was disgusted, one thing he always noticed though was there was always a pure white stag somewhere in those memories, staring at his family.
When Tony woke up, he had thought it was all a dream. Until he saw the same white stag staring at him through his window.
Tony then realized what was going on, Erastil was giving him the chance to save his family. Tony quickly ran to his wedding ceremony, underdressed, Uncleaned, and desperate.
Tony pleaded with his family to apologize to the god, but his father would have none of it and, furious at his son's weakness of will, disowned him in front of everyone in the family.
Heart broken at his father's reaction to him trying to save them, he grabbed Freya and ran away from the compound. As soon as they're feet touched the earth outside, the foundation of the compound shattered, bringing the whole thing down upon the entirety of the Sinclair line, killing everyone. Tony tried to explain to Freya what had happened, he tried to convince her that they could run away with each other.
She didn't see it the same way, she rebuked Tony, blaming all of this on him. She ran away l, cursing him the whole time as a "stupid tree hugger"
Tony was still for the next three days, kept alive by fruit that the stag would bring him. When he finally moved, the stag ushered him to follow.
he was then led to sandpoint by the stag and taken in by the local clergy where he has resided for 4 years, serving Erastil so that maybe one day he could atone for his family.
his look
Tony is a man(Boy?) who tries to be humble in everything he does, he is a lover of animals and nature. Though he has been known to go a bit gung-ho at times.
He dislikes fire for obvious reasons.
He Hates arrogant people with superiority complexes and hates when he fails at anything, not because of any belief that he is perfect, but because he believes that if he fails enough that what happened to his family, Will happen again to someone else.
The Swallowtail Festival
Those three words set the hearts of the people of sandpoint on fire every time there mentioned. Children wait in baited breath for its day to come and the adults accepted it as a sign that they had survived another year. Many traders and entrepreneurs would enter for a chance to sell there many exotic do-dad's. It was safe to say that people loved the Swallowtail festival.
Tony Sinclair was no different.
He had only been here in sandpoint for going on three years now, and it never got old. The smiles on people's faces always was the best part.
Currently, Tony was sitting on a stool in his favorite hang-out, the community bar "The Tipsy Cow."
The bar was filled with the loud banter of peasants getting drunk and having a good time together and Tony enjoyed every minute of it. These people were a true community that stuck with each other; he should know after all.
Taking a swig of some fire whisky, Tony sighs in contentment and leans into the table to keep enjoying the atmosphere.
"so this is where you always go Tony..."
Opening only his left eye, Tony looks and sees a young lass of 16...did he mention that she was glaring at him with a fire as red as her hair in her eyes?
Fully turning to face the girl, Tony gives a little grin "oh, hello sister Mirabell, how are you this fine morning?"
Impossibly, Mirabells glare got even more deep "what do you think your doing in a bar of all places? Drinking too? You've been here for 4 years already, You have to be a role model to the children Tony!"
Tony just hummed to himself in response and turns back to his drink, he quickly downs it and turns back to Mirabell "Mira...there is only so much one can accomplish inside of the church, at some point you must leave for a while to mingle with the common folk. If you don't, how will you understand them? How will you help them? I am a child of Erastil, while I was not gifted his power over community, that does not give me the right to ignore those responsibility like they arn't my problem." Tony turns to the rest of the bar and with a flourish of the hands, calls out "and what a beautiful, wonderful community it is!"
Roars of approval roll from the crowd as some come over and pat Tony on the back while offering kind words to a kind man.
Turning to Mirabell, Tony gives her one more smile before sitting down and ordering some more whisky. Mirabell is silent, then huff and quickly leaves the establishment, burning with embarrassment.
The bar-hand then walks over with a large mug of ale "sorry Tony, we be out of the whisky but heres a mug of ale on the house"
Tony takes the offered mug in hand and offers his thanks "thank you Gino" The man, Gino, gives a toothless grin and walks off to tend to the other patrons.
Now left alone, Tony's Gaze falls on a family of 4, laughing and enjoying there time together, husband and wife lovingly gazing into each other's eyes. Tony's ever present smile melts off his face and is replaced with a soft frown. He turns back and stares deep into his mug, flashes of his family home in ruins shine on the surface of the alcohol.
"it's been four years since then..."
Tony gets up and leaves the ale there, suddenly he didn't feel like drinking anymore.
"days like this make me wonder...am I pleasing you with what I do...?"
Walking outside, Tony starts to stroll down the street towards his home, stopping to wave and talk every now and again with the townsfolk. Tony was very well known around sandpoint as a former noble and a righteous and just man.
"does me dedicating myself...does that mean anything to you?"
Ignoring the gossiping girls infront of the church, Tony walks through its familiar double doors and let's the peaceful feeling of home wash over him. But still his mind wandered back.
"if I died right now...would I be worthy enough to join you in the great hunt?"
Wordlessy, Tony walks into his room and walks to his mirror. His room was spartan is designe, haveing but a bed and one dresser. Slowly, Tony let's his shirt and robe fall to the floor and stares at his uncovered chest.
"does this...mark really mean something?"
His eyes trace the birthmark, starting at the bow shape mark that went shoulder to shoulder and ending at the arrow who's point stopped on the middle of his collerbone.
"Freya..."
Sighing he prepares himself for bed wishing to retire early. Laying back and looking at the ceiling, Tony let sleep claim him.
And he dreamt.

So if the 1 page limit is more of a guideline, does that mean I can put up the stuff I cut out of my character's backstory? This would mainly be why his mother decided to go through with her pregnancy even though she's 40, and some of the early life in Sandpoint such as how they earned a living.

Everyone- please separate or somehow mark your background skills.
@Xarmas- I don't see any of the divine power stuff (your domain) anywhere in you profile. The only weapon you have listed is a quarterstaff (which is 2handed) but you're carrying a shield which i guess could just be for when you're casting, but I thought I'd point it out. And, extend spell looks like it's worthless until 3rd level maybe you took it now because you have the next couple feats planned out but otherwise you may want to push it back to 3rd or 5th
@Henshin- if you need more words to explain things that are important to your character's personality, outlook, or things like that go ahead. I'm just trying to avoid unnecessarily (or outrageously) long backgrounds to read.

Quite right you are, my good sir. Planning on Power Attack and Natural Spell for 3rd and 5th respectively, so I though I'd get it out of the way. Not likely to use it until 3rd at the earliest, though. I had made mention of the chosen domain at the bottom (Travel), but I will gladly go back in and make it easier to find. You're right; it's kind of buried. I'll note the background skills, and I'll go buy a 1-handed weapon; that was a great catch. Thanks so much!
EDIT: All done. I removed the steel mirror and beast whistle, and added a scimitar for the same cost. I took a page from Gwyddym's book, and added background in caps after the corresponding skills. Also, added a separate section for the domain, at the bottom, so it is easier to find. Kind of important, after all.

Nikolai Radavaski |

I would like to submit Nikolai Radavaski for consideration. Nikolai is a Varisian Inquisitor of Shelyn, wielder of the bladed scarf, champion of love, crusader against brothels, seeker of lost art and songs, and aspiring artist.
Nikolai's background and sample post will be coming soon but most of the crunch is done. I would appreciate any and all feedback and comments from anyone reviewing Nikolai.

@Nikolai- mostly looks really good. Chelaxian isn't actually a language (it was in some of the early publications but now Taldane/common is officially the language of Cheliax), and it looks like you have the wrong stats for the bladed scarf (you listed the crit at 19-20/x3 but I believe it should be 20/x2).

didnhe announce the party and then vanish?
GMs disappearing (or players) has been extremely common for the whole time I've been playing PbPs at least. People are trained to expect instant feedback. PbP seldom offers that and as such many people grow bored or lose interest fairly easily.

Matrim of Shadows |

Hmmmm... I've been trying to think of a new backstory for Matrim, something where he is not an orphan... Thought of having him as a local boy, who picked up thievery, but once i get started... it falls apart...
I did indicate which skills were background skills... and i will be trying to edit his story so that he was not an orphan.
The shadows are eluding me...
