DESCRIPTION
Languages: Common (Taldane), Elven (Bonus), and Varisian (Bonus) Marcelano's piercing blue eyes and hardy frame show a greater than average connection to the Ulfen ancestors of the Chelaxian people. He is a moderately attractive young man who's short, ruddy-brown hair is kept well maintained. While his intellect and insight serve him well in combat, it is his nimbleness and accuracy that are his real strengths. Seven months before the birth of her youngest, Ileosa was struggling with the decision of whether to terminate the pregnancy. One morning she decided to go to the marketplace to clear her head, but it was strangely devoid of people. Looking through the stalls she found an ornate, golden key that almost seemed to glow when the light caught it. Curious, she tried to pick it up only to be startled when the key flew up on its own. Again she reached for the key, but before she could grasp it, it floated away from her. Feeling an odd compulsion, she began to chase after the key. Yet no matter how quickly she ran, the key always remained just out of reach. Now that she thought about it, she hadn't run like this for ten or fifteen years and yet, she was able to do so easily. Pushing this realization aside she focused again on the key that had been leading her up and down the streets of Korvosa. It took what felt like ages, but eventually the key led her back to her home. Without a hint of exhaustion, she entered the building and noticed an eerie quiet. She began to search the house for the key, however, after finding no trace of it she decided to retire to her room. What she found there was a strange round object with a keyhole resting upon her bed. Taking her eyes off of it she noticed that the key she had been chasing was lying down beside the odd object. Tentatively she took the key, which no longer fled her grasp, and unlocked the object which opened when she removed the key. From inside there came a soft golden glow. When Ileosa peered inside she saw a small infant floating within surrounded by images of unfamiliar items and piles of gold. Then a voice boomed like thunder "Put your faith in me, and these will be but a fraction of the rewards you shall earn." Upon hearing this, all of a sudden she felt a wave of drowsiness overtake her and fell asleep. When she woke, she found herself in bed and her husband Manius still sleeping. Waking him, she recounted what she could remember. He then spoke "Surely this is a sign from Abadar that we shall be blessed if you turn away from Asmodeus and carry our child." Thinking on it, Ileosa made the hard decision to distance herself from her family and their faith. Her husband was overjoyed, for long had he only paid lip service to the Prince of Darkness. Growing up, Marcelano had the weight of expectation placed upon him, yet he bore it remarkably, much to the envy of his older siblings. He took to the family's craft of alchemical goods easily and also studied the intricacies of engineering and weapon crafting. Whatever subject he set his mind to seemed to come easily to the boy, even martial pursuits. It wasn't long after his 16th birthday though, when rumors started up of children marked by the gods living in Sandpoint. When Marcelano's parents learned of this they believed it was a sign that despite its humble size, greater fortune awaited them there. They booked passage, with their youngest in tow, on a merchant ship headed that way and set out. However, what they found when they arrived was not what they expected. The town was still recovering from a spate of serial murders and a fire that had claimed the old chapel and surrounding buildings. Despite this unexpected turmoil Marcelano and his parents bought a small house on Main Street. They spent their days crafting various fireworks and selling their services as pyrotechnicians for festivals and events. However, it didn't take long for word to spread to the local priests of the young man and the mark on his right hand. The high-priest of the cathedral, which was being erected to replace the burned down chapel, came to Marcelano's new home and asked to take the young man so he could be instructed in the use of his gifts and so that he could be among others like himself. With heavy hearts his parents agreed to this believing it would be for the best.
SAMPLE POST:
It was the day before the Swallowtail Release and Marcelano had woken up early and gone to The Rusty Dragon to clear his head over a bowl of his favorite treat. As he sat there mulling over what to do, a timid voice broke the silence. "E-excuse me, young sir? I c-couldn't help but notice you've barely touched your iced cream." Looking at the half-melted contents of the sizable bowl before turning to the elderly halfling woman thinking what was her name again? Beth-something, Bethana, Bethana Corwin, that was it. Before he could answer her she spoke again, with a little less trepidation. "Something must be really tr-troubling you to come here this early. Grimacing at the astute observation Marcelano thought back to the previous days events.
He had just learned that since he was coming of age, he would be free to make his own decision whether to stay at the newly finished Sandpoint Cathedral, after the dedication ceremony on the day of the Swallowtail Release. Excitedly he had gone to visit his parents to tell them the news, but their reaction was, to him, strangely nonchalant. "Oh, is that so? Well I'm sure you have a lot to think about over the coming days and we don't need a distracted worker so off you go." his father had said brusquely. His mother, Ileosa, had been quiet the entire time and would not even look at him. Little did Marcelano suspect that this was in truth, just a facade his parents were putting on so that he didn't feel obligated to stay with them. "It's nothing serious Miss Corwin. I'm just trying to figure out what it is I truly wish to do from now on." replied Marcelano; attempting to mask his sadness with an air of lightheartedness. 1d20 + 1 (Cha) - 10 (far-fetched lie)
Sensing that the young man was trying to ease her concern, Bethana responded gently "well, don't think overmuch dearie. I'm sure the answer will come to you if you keep moving forward. Speaking of which, you really should finish that before it all melts." Laughing at this, Marcelano began to eat the remainder of the creamy confection. The old woman's right. It isn't like me to get into such a funk. Maybe it's best if I go on a journey? With this in mind, the young chosen of Abadar made preparations for the coming day, unaware of what lay in store...
