Eponine |
Eponine will slip back across the room to the others. Quietly, she'll say I don't see any traps in this room, but we should still be careful. Beyond that door, I heard shuffling sounds. Shall we try that door? I am sure I can get it open if its locked, and we can let Brock take the lead in case that shuffling needs some earthbreaking... If no one disagrees, she'll go back to the door. Once Brock is in place, she'll try opening the door, picking the lock if it proves necessary.
Victor Montoya |
"Watch it there, clumsy, this isn't a balcony" Wren playfully jabs at the warrior. "I don't know. You know how careful Epi is. I'm sure she's afraid there is some sort of trap up there she is disarming."
Victor grins, "Please do not remind me, Miss Wren. I can still feel the pain in my back on that one." He winks as he rubs his back, mentally reliving the pain.
As Eponine moves to try the door, a look of worry creases his face. "Be careful, Miss Eponine!" Victor tells her in a loud whispering voice.

Here is why I wanted to wait on the map program on my laptop, Good Luck
The door is unlocked and Eponine pushes the double doors in. Another of the split jawed creatures is directly behind the door and lashes out at the elf with its claws. Once of its sharp talons tears at her neck. The creature then lunges at the half-orc, but fails to lock its nasty formed jaw on Brock.

Behind the creature, the huge room looks like nothing more than an immense underground cathedral. Stone doors stand to either side of the main entrance, but beyond this, the walls are carved with strange, spiky runes. In the center of the room is a large pool, a ring of polished human skulls balanced on stone spikes arranged in a circle around the deeper midsection. At the far end of the room, a pair of stone stairways leads up to a pulpit on which sits a second pool, this one triangular and filled with churning, bubbling water that looks almost like translucent lava. Yet while wisps of what look like heat and steam rise from the strange orange liquid, the room itself is deathly cold.
Above the second pool, a tiny flying demon like creature with black ram like horn and a thin, wiry body screeches in shrill voice, "How dare you intrude on the Mothers sanctum!"

With a glare at the intruders, the flying thing runs a dagger across her own wrist and crimson drops of blood fall into the pool. The pools glow dims some as the water churns and foams as a second of the spawn creatures crawls out with murder in its eyes.

Sophy Cassell |
Sophy lets out a little scream as she sees blood fly from Eponine's throat. She starts to drop her crossbow, gives it a little glance as she remembers what it's been doing lately, and carefully hangs it back at her belt. Then she reaches into her pocket for Father Zantus's precious wand. It frustratingly evades her grasp, as if tiny gremlins are pulling it away from her fingers, before she is able to bring it out. Victor advances forward, draws back and fires an arrow into the crowded doorway. The arrows streaks between Eponine and Brock striking the creature in the chest. (Still a hit even with a -4 for shooting into melee.) Wren starts the act of summoning a creature into the room and a shimmering mist starts to gather directly behind the creature, growing in size as the moments pass. Brocks hammer drops on the things head splattering blood, but the creature refuses to fall. In the shrine Sophy gets out the wand, after safely stowing her crossbow. Eponine thrusts forward stabbing the creature and still it will not die. (The summoned creature will not appear until just before Wren's action next round, sorry not flank this time.) Wild furry in it's eyes, the creature lashes out at Brock with it's claws and then tries to bite the half-orc. Only one of the claws is able to tear at the warriors flesh (3 pts). On the dais the second creature moves towards the doors.

Well crap. You gotta be kiddin' me. I am the KING of ones. I have been spitting these things out left and right in various threads. (Just ask MoB) ;)
As Victor's in the process of letting his arrow fly, a cramp forms in his release hand. "Ahhh!" He yelps and pulls his hand back while his arrow flies off in a crazy direction as if Sophy had just dropped it. Victor cringes worried it might hit somebody. "Sorry! It was a..." he starts then thinks better of it, "Sorry." he repeats embarrassingly.

Brock AKA "Bones" |
Brock winces in pain, as he looks back at Victor with a serious "don't screw with me" look. "Watch where you shoot, pretty boy, if you want to stay that way!" He then looks at Eponine, "Can you kill me this damn freak already? There are more coming!"
Brock delays to allow the rest of the party to act.... If nobody kills the freak, then he swings at it. If it dies before his turn, Brock moves to V30 and attacks the creature in W31.

Sophy patters up past Victor, the wand at the ready. She looks askance at Brock's backside, tentatively stretches the wand toward it, then pulls it back. Eponine looks hurt worse anyway. She touches the priest's wand to the elf's shoulder, remembering how she felt when the healing power flowed through her own fingers and willing the wand to work.

She actually doesn't need to Use Magic Device, as cure light wounds is on her spell list, but she doesn't know that. Eponine is next.
Mythril DM |
From the glowing mist arrives a massive dog which immediately tries to bite the spawned creature but misses. Wren waits and watches at the beginning of the fight unfolds.
Brock grunts at Victor and hesitates, waiting to see if Eponine's quick blade can finish the creature in the door.
Sophy creeps up behind the front lines and tries to avoid looking at Brock's behind. She touches Father Zantus's wand to Eponine's back sending a wave of cool comfort through the elf.
Refreshed by the magical healing, Eponine attempts to stab the creature in it's grotesque split jaw, but unfortunately it dodges aside and avoids a killing blow.
The creature howls and spittle splashes in Brock's and Eponine's faces as Brock again brings his mighty hammer down on the creature. It crumples to the ground, dead.
The second creature slashes its claws at the newly summoned dog and attempts to lock it's jaws on the dogs hindquarters. The dog yelps as one of the claws tears at the flesh on it's back and the teeth of the creature sink in.
Eponine feels a slight tugging in her shoulder where the tiny dagger was embedded and sees it streak out of her flesh and fly across the air and back into the hand of the flying demon creature.

"Horrible, Hideous Mother make these intruders cower!" The tiny flying thing screeches. Everyone, except Wren, feels the hairs on their neck stand up as a wave a fear washes over them. In a blink of your eye the creature vanishes from sight.
Everyone but Wren needs to make a Will Save
A frightened creature flees from the source of its fear as best it can. If unable to flee, it may fight. A frightened creature takes a –2 penalty on all attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks. A frightened creature can use special abilities, including spells, to flee; indeed, the creature must use such means if they are the only way to escape.
A shaken character takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks. Shaken is a less severe state of fear than frightened or panicked.

Victor runs into Wren at the wrong angle and stumbles, nearly falling to the ground in his attempt to escape.
Ah yes, the ones and twos or flowing now! BOO-YAH! And on the plus side, Wren is mad at me all over again, but this time, Brock's with her! Yay! Welcome home Victor. Welcome home.
Wren Chavali |
AC 12, HP 15/16
Sigh, Victor. Wren and Victor just aren't meant to be friends, it seems...lol.
"Victor, watch it you idiot!" Wren screams at the fighter after he crashes into her. She recognized he was magicked, but that didn't make her much happier than if he wasn't. She began moving forward, expecting most of the rest of her companions to also turn running in fear, especially after seeing her summoned dog also turn tail and run away in her direction. After moving forward to the spot Victor had abandoned, she pulls her dagger, knowing she might have to hold the line for the team for a bit.
Sophy Cassell |
The cold wave of fear washing over her doesn't scare her half as much as Victor turning and running does. And yet ... Sophy has faced so many things in these last several days that she never thought she ever could. Father Zantus' wand in her hand reminds her of the trust that has been placed in her; she can't let him down. Although her fingers tremble a little, she switches the wand to her other hand and draws her dagger to defend herself if need be. She will stand and fight for Sandpoint. "Cheer up," she calls to the others, although the quaver in her voice belies her brave words. "At least the little flying thing is gone."

Yes, frightened characters are allowed to use special abilities etc to help them flee. The way I see it they don't forget how to fight and act under pressure they just have to use all there skill and ability to get away because their mind is under the influence of the magic.

Scrambling away, nearly knocking Wren to the ground, Victor flees the shrine. Wren draws her dagger and steps up ready to defend her mind affected friends. The summoned dog, chases after Victor whining with its celestial tail between its celestial legs. Sophy finds the inner strength to stand firm with Wren and defend her fleeing allies. Brock forges into the room and takes a mighty swipe at the creature, but his hammer hits only the air. In response the creature tears at him with both claws and attempt's to bite his arm off, but Brock's missed swing pulls him off center and the creature also misses.

"Look alive Sophy! Move out of the way, I've got something for this monster," Wren yells at her companion. She holds her action until seeing if Sophy could get out of the way before loosing a spell.

Sophy Cassell |
Sophy's cry of surprise as the tiny thing appears in front of her quickly morphs into a wail of pain as the evil magic courses through her and tiny bubbles seem to well up under her skin and burst into weeping wounds. Her anguished moan echoes down the corridor after her fleeing companions. Just a little more guilt for you to deal with, Victor. :)

Wren waits until Sophy moves after stabbing at the winged thing with no success. Fire flashes out from Wren's hands, Sophy can feel the heat on her face, but Brock is to far away to be in danger from the magical flames. The tiny creature flies up, avoiding most of the fiery bast, and grins as the edge of the flames tickle her feet seemingly causing her no pain. Brock misses the creature again. It rears back and strikes all out at the half-orc again, both claws raking across Brock's chest drawing blood.
